I wish they still made cars like this...
Same.
Agreed! The Charger's design puts all cars to shame compared to today's cars.. dull and boring.
I was in Junior High when my older brother came home one day in a brand new 1966 Dodge Charger, bright red. I had never seen a car that beautiful before, and haven't since either!
Those rear bucket seats were top notch.
Until you want 4 passengers lol
I love watching these dealer promo films, and the commercials for the 66 charger, especially because I own one!!!these cars a truly classics, and are rare today
Same here, I own a black on red 66 383 charger project car.
I love them I would camp in it if I had one my aunt and uncle bought one brand new in 66 blue inside and out with the hemi automatic
I'm in love with this car it's just perfect can't wait to get one !
Always loved the first generation Charger.
My brother and a friend from college who owned a 1967 Charger camped in it at Daytona Speedway back in 1968. He said it was really comfortable to sleep in.
Restoring a 67' now. Love this car.
Dodge has always had unique styling
I had one. Always thought they had one of the coolest interiors to ever come out of Detroit.
I owned a '67 back in the '70s...440 4spd...of all the cars I ever owned, this is the one I wish I never sold..
I too have regrets about selling a car.
I’ve seen a couple of these at a coffee and cars show in Atlanta. The interior is extremely roomy, even when the rear seats are up. It’s a little unsettling, because the car doesn’t have all that crumple zoned “bulk” that cars nowadays have. It’s definitely a radical looking car, even by today’s standards.
They did a great job with the Charger.
My first vehicle was a White 66 Dodge Charger
LoVE it , Only One , The one and only CHARGER ....!!! 66 to 70 some of the most beautiful Cars Dodge ever made .... miss all of my Chargers , Cuda's n Roadrunner's.... but the Memories Live on forever...😎
12/25/2023: A close friend of mine bought a yellow 1966 426 HEMI Charger from the original owner in 1974 for $850.00! Flawless condition. We spent a lot of time in that car. Wonderful. Prior to that, he and I put a 426 HEMI in his 1967 Dodge van. We used to drive to High School in it. I've always been a MOPAR guy and I have owned three 440 magnum cars, a 383 and a 340. I grew up at a great time for cars. Born in 1952. Thanks
A dynamic automobile with a lot of character and function and style.
how could anybody nay vote this iconic beauty...
This car is a legend
When I was in the Navy in 1986. While stationed in Pensacola, Florida. I had an opportunity to buy a 1966 Charger with the 383 V8 for $3,600. It was in good condition. But I didn't get it. Still wish I had. The wallpaper on my pc is the electroluminescent instrument panel from the 1966/67 Dodge Charger. If only.....
You can still get the 383 cars at a good price. I bought a nice one today.
@@danpals7678 that great. I hope you enjoy it.
This was a very good car.
I’m hooked on these videos.
I had a 1966 white Dodge charger also it had a 361 in it and had olive color interior it was a good car 👍👍
Just A Fantastic And Gorgeous, And Styling ❤ It 😊
More versatile than i thought.
These are definitely unique
I've never liked the fastback Chargers, but the video is doing a damn good job attempting to convince me.
I got one '66 at home i'm still restoring and this will be my first car once I turn 16.
love this channel! thank you so much!
Marlin came first, as a 1965-1/2 model in February 1965. The first year Marlins (1965) were Rambler branded, but similar to the '66s.
I loved and drove Chrysler products....in 60/90s...GREAT CARS!.
I like this video
I'm sold!
Looks rad !
I also love these Videos....please more of them.......
I got a 1966 charger im working on, putting a 440 in it and the rally suspension
Very cool!
I’ve got a ‘70 with the Factory 440 Six Pack 4-speed Dana 3.54.
my dad's had a 727TF, but same rear gears and the six-pack....15 yrs. old and a 70 Charger R/T SE car to drive....yeah, buddy....
awesome
First gen Chargers would have looked a lot better if Dodge had widened the rear end. Back tires look lost in the wheel wells as is. BTW, I own a 67 Charger. Put 15x8.5 American Racing Torque-Thrusts in the back, with 15x7's in the front. Looks much better.
That's the exact wheel combo that came with my 66 charger project when I bought it. 275 60 15s/15×8.5 on rears and 215 70 15s/ 15x7s on front. To me, it's what made me like it more than all the other 1st gen chargers I had seen before. All the ones I had seen prior would always have small tires on it.
@@blah9664 I run 275/60 15's on the rear also. Have 235/60 15's up front. Cheers!
@@herman452 I would love to see it. I have a few videos of mine on my channel.
Can you put videos on it on your channel?
Too bad you're not a chrysler engineer too bad they didn't make a low deck 452 cubic inch engine from the factory if we're on wishing what could've been
Mopar awesome
Sold
I bought it today.
Alright, you've persuaded me. Where do I place my order for a 4/40 with Rally Suspension and Four on the Floor?
Remember when it came out.
The car that was originally meant for the production version of the turbine engine that didn't see the light of day..
Nice👌
I own a very nice gold one and am getting ready to buy a really nice red 66 with AC and power windows. 383 and only 45k miles
Truly amazing, when you look at the quality of materials, interior, exterior, I am aware of rust issue, that could have been avoided with maintenance,
Designed, functionality and ease of repair, Very little, if any plastic ,If maintained you could have driven this for 50 years.
The hidden headlights are cool.
I had stewardship of one, it was one best cars I ever owned.
My cousin had a 66 charger with the 318 engine in canary yellow and black vinyl.
I thought it was a sharp-looking car that performed well except that the car rattled a lot when you hit bumps and both door lock mechanisms broke inside the doors.
Was that a man and a...... dear.. haha... awesome I'm so glad I'm part of the Mopar family. Weird Awesome and unique. Always
They were just good friends...
i like the tail lights , way ahead of its time
They are sequential too. I just bought a 66 today. My kids and friends think I'm crazy but they haven't seen the car yet plus they've never driven an old mopar. Can't wait to slam them in their seatbacks, lol
@@danpals7678 just curious does your 66 have air conditioning
I will never look at the Charger the same way again.
60's was all American Cars...... I missed those days
Exactly.
They forgot to say muscle car but we all know that the first car to be called an official muscle car was the GTO back in 64'.
1966 was the last year for the 318 Poly the 67 had the 318 LA engine
My dream car, one day before I die maybe.
I got lucky and bought one today. It's just a 383 car but I will get 400 out of it when I do a few modifications. Only 86k miles. Needs a little TLC but nothing major.
At 0:22, the deer! Lol!
It's awesome! My friends 69 RT/SE is in restoration now painted the darker greem metallic orginal paint code for his. Emerald Racing green I think? It on my chanel dragging at the strip in 1996! Also 71 Challenger shredding tires, abandoned dealership 50yrs full of CARS, etc! /w\HEAVY-METAL/w\
I can't wait to put my scuba gear in my Charger.
They were very nice car's if you liked this style!!!!!
I could imagine making a hellcat version of this car
Not one single mention of Charger's ashtrays. :(
Where can I pick mine up.
Wow didn't know Charger was all that originally
AMC Marlin was first in 65 with fast back design.
64 Plymouth Baracuda was the first fastback
@@amatodelsordo1573 yeah if your talking compacts (which is what valiants, meteor, falcon, chevyII etc) were called. As a matter of fact, 48-52 gm cars were fast backs, although they weren't called that. I was referring to midsized platforms.
I have a white '67 with a 383 4bbl and 727 auto
Back in the day when the Dodge Charger was just a private jet. Now a days the Dodge Charger is a starship with warp core engines.
I will take 10 right now
The year I turned 16 and could drive.
15 here but Dad got me operators license @15....
So...according to this promo film, if I want to find a 1st gen Charger on Cragslist, then I might want to look in the camper section too? LOL.
These 1st Gens wouldn't be nearly as bad of looking cars if Dodge hadn't improved everything wrong about the bodylines with the Gen 2.
Hey there Charger how you doing :)
They sold these like hotcakes on the coast. One of the top saling points wa
S that you could get your surfboard in the car via the truck
it looked better then a camaro.
Who would have thought that Ronald Reagan would make such a good Dodge promo narrator.
that was not Ronald Reagan. Probably somebody that worked in Detroit with Chrysler Corporation
That's not Reagan.
I well remember this model. It was a sales flop, selling only about 38,000 units. Younger buyers just weren't attracted to it because it lacked the sleek, stylish, sporty look which at the time they so highly desired. It also closely resembled the 1966 AMC Marlin, which was a major negative issue. Nowadays, within the classic car realm, the '66 Charger has attained a somewhat elevated appeal, but back in the day it was a total loser.
Your right. Even this ad doesn't know who to sell to. In my lifetime I have only seen 2 or 3 '66-'67 Chargers. Maybe they should have played the girls in the back seat angle more......🤔
Long story, but I lived with an USAF family at the time. The father (a colonel) brought one in silver for his daughter for HS graduation (we went to the same school).. She didn't care for it and had me drive her wherever she went. Felt like the king of the road behind that wheel. For a month any way.
Ahead of its time
"It's a boon to mothers" HaHa. Let your toddlers play in the back with no restraints of any kind. You would be jailed for that behavior these days!
Interesting so many of these are beeping slide shows...
Beep!
Change the slide.
Beep!
Change the slide.
Beep!
Change the slide.
Looks like a Marlin
LOL, "unmatched luxury".....then talks about "pleated vinyl seats"
Vinyl was often an option over cloth seats back then. Today's cars often have "leatherette" like MB and BMW. Toyota refers to theirs as Sof-Tex. Living in Texas, I'll take cloth over vinyl or leather.
So the kids could just slide around in the back with the seats folded down while they played whatever and Mom or Dad was wringing out the ol' V8 and smoking a whole pack of Red Apples. That sounds safe.
6:41
I've had that engine. It's very little go on a crap ton of gas, the exact opposite of what Reagan says.
FWIW, you can get 18mpg highway with it in stock form. But it's also slower than any modern vehicle with the stock 2bbl and restrictive exhaust manifolds. To say nothing of the small valves and tiny cam.
That's before you load all of those free-range children into the back of your '66 Charger, too!
Best get the optional powerplant if you're doing any time-traveling.
In 66 the 318 was a poly engine and a whole different platform than the LA 318 small block that they made from 67 onward.
Again... that was not Ronald Reagan
Me too lol
Audi RS7 is a complete body style copy
RUST PREVENTATIVE STAINLESS ROCKER COVERS? ALL THEY WERE WAS A PLACE DIRT AND MOISTURE WAS TRAPPED AND ATTACKED THE BODY UNDER THE TRIM
I bought one today. Got a great deal but still very expensive. I sold my 70 Coronet 500 back in 81 when I needed money for tuition for $800, STUPID, STUPID, STUPID. Oh well, got a new girl now.
Yeah this one is not for everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!##
it has j.walter thompson fingerprints all over it. in '68 the same type of hype would sell us richard nixon.
.
friend had one i didnt really care for it, but it was fast though. lol
It was a work of genius, much better than the AM Marlin
And now it’s unfortunately electric losing every ounce of soul and character it ever had. Simply an appliance now, shame…
The charger looks so fat
Neither design lasted long.
Never liked these.......
Most ugly car ever.
You are the gayest person ever !
Not even maybe. Wanna talk ugly Mopars look at the 1962 Dart or 63 & 64 full size Chryslers. The ´66 fastback being a new body type, the design team did OK. 2nd gen looked better on the outside, but not the inside. And being jollied up Coronets, the also lacked the unique practicality of the 66/67 Charger.
