Thanks for building this on camera
Looking forward to see it finished.
Not a problem my friend 😊👊🏻
Fantastic build job Really a great chassis! Thank you very mutch for this video!
Thanks Sven 🤩👊🏻
It’s great we have people like you Glenn that keeps the interest up amongst RC fans with new and interesting content. Great way to always learn new things, tricks and tips. That’s coming from a life long RC and Tamiya fan. 👍🏻
Thanks for the lovely comment my friend, much appreciated 🤩👊🏻
Beautiful lookin kit really love it loiks absolutely excellent 👍😍love the kit id love one
Thanks Keith 😊👊🏻
great job glenn mate very nice👍👊🇬🇧😎😊
Cheers Leon 😎👊🏻
Glenn, I'm the 100th Comment! 😉 What did I WIN!!?? 😜😂😁
That looks like a shockingly nice bit of Kit! 👌👍👍
I paused after you finished the Front assembly... Surprised that there's not adjustable Caster/Camber on it. However, the whole design looks GREAT and sturdy. You actually WANT a tight Diff... That way, you still get Differential action for steering, but BOTH Wheels pulling for better grip.
When possible, if I can seal the Diff Housing, I'll put THICK Diff Grease. Like 500,000 to 1 Million CST!! 😲 It worked well in Racing. 😉
The Front inner bearings look like the same as the CC-01.

Well, you're justifiably chuffed!!! 😁 MUCH more simple than I imagined. The Gold Wheels were an excellent choice. 👍👍 The TRF Shocks as well.
You're right! Building a Tamiya Kit is quite satisfying. I wish I could FINISH my M05 PIECEMEAL build... but I can't find anyone who has the bits I'm missing, or the money to buy them. This will be a LONG build. 😭
Can't WAIT to see the Body!!!
That's a cool build👌
tamiya frog
Thanks man 😎👊🏻
Them blue shocks look cool liking the white springs looking forward to seeing the body being built in your next vid top work Glen 👍👍
Thanks Martin 😊👊🏻
Looking good, Buddy!
Thank you 😊
New to the channel,great build
Great video big man ❤️
Love speed runs and this should really impress with that different pinion option,
Thanks for the video
Yeah Chris, it’s got quite a range, 14 to 25 lol that’s huge 😎👊🏻
TAMIYA Legends yes 💪🏽😎👍🏽 25t is like a spur lol 😂
Just picked up this car. So excited to get the boys collected and start getting it out together.
Another cool build vid👍 tip with parts trees!.. In the back of the manual were the part trees are displayed, the parts maked in dark black are the parts you dont need for that build! i cut them out before i start the build, then i know if anything is left! I've mist a step! Love your show😁👏👏
Excellent thanks for watching buddy 😊👊🏻
I do love your build videos Glenn, always a pleasure. May have to build a belt driven version, just to put me out of my comfort zone.
Looking forward to seeing the body now.
Cheers. 😊👍🏻
Excellent thanks Dave 😎👊🏻
I've got one (original) that I've fully pimped out. Bearing diffs, one way pullies, anti roll bars.
That spare bit is a bumper (very short). Not sure about the gears...... it was a few years (20!) Ago I made it. Lol.
Great video, brought back good memories. Glad you enjoyed making it. :)
Lovely thanks for watching buddy 😎👊🏻
Glad you got hold of the 730 & 850 bearings they seem to get missed in the kits.
With the shocks, you did notice that the cvas in the kit use a super mini on the front while the rear is a mini with the long spacer on the shaft inside the oil reservoir? They use the same metal shaft but, while I've not measured them, Tamiya must have done this for some subtle length variation reason. Maybe this affects the ride height you are seeing?
I ran my 1999 TA03R on a 17 tooth pinion with an RZ motor, ran great, the motor got pretty hot though, it struggled on a 21 tooth though, (limp acceleration) but the 19 tooth is ok, but I think about the max the RZ will haul reasonably due to the heat. I am yet to source a heat sink motor mount & pinion cover to aid cooling. Brushless? I think the 25 pinion should be achievable then... (not tried it myself) Rapid!!?!?! Probably give the TA05 a good thrashing 🤔
Did you know you can make your own adjustable upper arms with either the 16mm threaded shaft used on the steering arms or an 18mm turnbuckle, I used the shortest of the 2 lower ball connectors from the cva V parts.
Excellent information thank you 😊👊🏻
23 years old IS vintage in the RC car world.
It certainly is my friend 😎👊🏻
Awesome video. I’ve just picked up a vintage TA03 in bits so this really helps me build it back up.
nice to see these are still around, bought mine when it came out, replacing the shaft version. Still runs today on the same electronics I put in back then
Spittsenheimer
Excellent 🤩
Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
awesome watching you build this beast Glen, Cant wait to see it's first run on the 14 tooth, may be one to keep on the watchlist for me , love this channel as much as you love building the cars , i too love building these tamiya kits its almost theroputical building its hard to explain but you know what im getting at , it gives you a sense of achievement similar to what ppl who go to the gym get that gratification feeling , love tamiya kits/cars and always will , thanx again Glen till your next Video , cheers mate .
Thanks Andrew 🤩
Oh yes I hear you, the whole process from start to finish is awesome my friend 😎👊🏻
Amazing the best super car in the world
Awesome build Glenn. I got a shrink wrapped NIB one that’s never gonna get built, so it’s nice to see the build. I’ve found a big resurgence in 90’s kits & chassis on ebay, so great to see this build. Can’t wait to see the body video 👍🏻
Excellent Andrew 🤩
Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
Deffo the small bumber and think the spare gears are for the TA03F (front motor) version.
Back in the day the mid/rear motor was better for racing but I always stuck with the front motor as they handled like a real TC would. I'm hoping they re-re that one.
Great video as usual. I watch your videos with the same level of excitement as the the original promo videos in Beatties.
Thanks for the awesome Comment Kevin, it’s really appreciated 🤩👊🏻
starting mine this weekend cant wait great vid glen
Well cool carnt wait to see the body painted they could be speed gears lol 👍👍
Yes I was thinking about those gears, I need to jump on the net and find out what they are David 😊👊🏻
Great build and another well executed vid. Jury is still out for me not sure if I should pull the trigger and use it as a runner. 🤔👍
Thanks Gareth 😊👊🏻
Awesome kit. I don’t have the time to build something like that but even if I did I’m not sure I have the patience either.
Have a great day and be safe out there!
Thanks for watching buddy 😊👊🏻
On a quick note: Similar to the Terra Scorcher the plastic where the suspension pins screw into isn't very strong, I've had to replace those gearbox covers a lot in the past. I'd suggest getting pins with c-clips :)
Oh that’s excellent information, thanks for that 😎👊🏻
Back in the 90s, the ta 03 was a very good car in the German tamiya cup.
With enough knowledge, you could make this car testing up the tracks!
And needles to say, they were very successful.
Excellent thanks for the feedback my friend, it’s much appreciated 😊👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends Funnily, I didn't exist at this time.
I have the same kit waiting to get built , the chassis is a first for me as well . I was all set and ready to start , but the odd size bearings put a halt to it . I have a number of extras in my spares bin , but nothing like the ones needed for this kit , a few of those sizes are certainly different then the other Tamiyas ive built . Now its just a matter of time , any thing coming thru the mail is going to take forever to arrive .
Yeah I was very surprised with the various bearing sizes, I was actually two short but luckily I had them in the spares bin 😓
I bet you will really enjoy the build my friend 😎👊🏻
RC bearings in the UK has the kit full bearing kit in stock & delivers in a few days. Not sure if you are international though. Can't hurt to ask. ☺️
Nice build, can you use longer bottom damper mounts for the Rear?
I had this problem & solved it, with longer bottom damper mount that screws on to the Damper shaft, to make the damper slightly longer. Cheers 👍🏻
Thanks buddy 😊👊🏻
Gonna start a new drinking game, everytime you say emm we drink and man we are gonna get drunk fast.
I always highlight the importance facts and notes in manual and small peice of school paper between spur and pinion push together tighten screws than spin pinion to make come out gear mesh set
Thanks buddy 👊🏻
Next one on my list Glenn, need to wait for it to be in stock somewhere in the UK tho! :-)
BenAppleTre
Excellent you’ll love it my friend 🤩👊🏻
Nice video. I'm a bit surprised but seems it's your first time bulding a ta03 series? I have mine in box ready to build so your video came at a good time to push me to start mine. I reccomend dry lube for the gears and exposed metal to metal parts. The spur and metal pinion does not need lube. I also got metal shielded bearings for the internal gearbox and hybrid sealed bearings (one side rubber/one side metal shielded) for the wheels/axles etc. They have a little less resistance than the full rubber sealed bearings so I like using them for the on road applications. Looking forward to seeing the finished body!
JUST ORDERED MY 911 GTI TODAY AND WHILE I WAS CLICKING AWAY ALSO ORDERED THE DUAL RIDGE CHROME BLACK PRE PAINTED EDITION tt02-B SO ILL BE BUSY BUILDING FOR A WHILE BUT LOVE THIS BUILDING UP THE TAMIYA KIT COLLECTION , LOOKING AT BUILDING AT LEAST 2 OF EACH CHASSIS SO I WILL HAVE A FAIR FEW SHELF QUEENS AS IM GETTING ON , GLEN DO YOU THINK THE TT01 OIL DAMPERS/SHOCKS WILL ALSO FIT ON THE PORSCHE KIT OR THE ONES YOU CAN GET FROM YEAH RACING?
Back in the day, Tamiya did have a ballraced aluminium upgrade set for the steering arm/bellcrank setup. This pretty much eliminated the slop in the steering (except for that which was inherent in the balls/ball ends). I had a TA03F back around 2000 or so, but that was one upgrade I didn't get. I did spring for the aluminium rear upright set which was a very nice upgrade and eliminated any tendency of the rear end to crab (ie not track perfectly straight). If you ever get the chance to get them and/or the steering set, they're highly recommended
PS: The length of the original TA03 Low Friction Aluminium Dampers is 70mm overall end to end or 62mm eye centre to eye centre. I'm not sure how this compares to your TRF dampers.
Excellent information Phil, thanks for taking the time to comment, very much appreciated 🤩👊🏻
I always worry if I have parts left over :) but I am sure a man of your calibre has built it correctly! fingers crossed anyway.
Lol yeah I’m all good on this one 😓👊🏻
Hey mate just wanted too let you know i got a super shot with box and techni-tune on auction yesterday for NZ$585 the guy who was selling it put all the hot shot cars up for sale his original hot shot went for $755 they were all original and mint condition, I'm very happy with my purchase as it is the same price as re release but so much better.
I really wanted his Bigwig aswell with the techni-gold but decided to focus on the super shot. Only a tamiya collector will understand what a bargain i got hehe.
Cheers, Richard.
Man Glenn!! You and Gav from RC Kicks have absolutely won me over from Kyosho to Tamiya 😊 since you are such a Tamiya connaisseur I have the TA03R-S Porsche 911 GT1, do I put the GT tuned motor in it, or the super stock TZ? I have allready installed the high soeed gear so it is the 66T spur and I think 25T pinion?
i'"ve got a feeling the MCI stickers for that 1/10 gt1 is based on the TGX 1/8 stickers where we had only the window trims ;) the tint was made with black transparent paint ;)
as usual ; nice build ;)
Yes you’re absolutely spot on Greg, I eventually opted to put a Tamiya cockpit in there which hopefully you’ll see in the next GT1 video 😊👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends great :D love your builds ; that car looks so much better in racing livery ;) to the point where even some of the rare real street cars have had a paint job ;) good luck on the sticking process; that GT1 is for me the one that took the most time and pain to do but its well worth it ;)
A Glenn I would really like to see you use the anti wear grease on all your diff gears. It would make all your gear diffs limited slip diffs. differentials
Cool info Brad 😊👊🏻
Very nice, I just ordered this kit (-:
Looks like a great build, looking forward to getting this one. I was going to go sport tuned motor with 25T pinion but was advised on the legends FB group that the motor might get too hot so go around 19T with a torque tuned motor, what are your thoughts? Great video as always, cheers mate!!!
I’m just going to run in standard kit form first and go from there I think 🤔
🔥
Although I completely bypassed the TA03 watching the build it’s an interesting evolution between the original TA02- TA04/5. Can’t wait to see it with the body painted up
🍺😎👍🏽
I’m really hoping you guys are going to love the shell I’ve done for it 🤩🤩🤩
😱😱😱😱😱 shoot that's nice.
I'm buying one

Excellent Richard 🤩👊🏻
This car flagged up on my facebook page from my local RC shop Als Hobbies in Milton Keynes. Well its the first RC car that really has seriously grabbed my attention. To get into this hobby what else would I need or would you recommend? Ive been into RC flying, and returning to that side of the hobby with a serious eye opener in the advances in technology and electric. So i would appreciate your help on this one. The Tamiya bearing kit is there a specific code for that and is it readily available? Does this bearing set suit most Tamiya RC electric cars or is it specific to the chassis? Sorry for all the questions.
There's a simple explanation for the leftover gears. The gears come as a package containing the diff gear and cover, spur gear, counter gear, belt pulley and a small plastic spacer. Now there are two gearboxes, both of which need a diff gear and cover and belt pulley. However, there's only one motor, so one gearbox doesn't need the spur or counter gear. As the gears are sold as a single unit spares pack (p/n 50718) it's easier to just put two packs in the kit and leave the leftovers as spares.
Lol excellent Phil, I’m really glad you new this. I did wonder there purpose lol 😂
Glenn, wonder if you could help, what charge rate do you charge your nimh batteries? I have loads of lipos that I charge at 1c but just bought a banger racing rc car that uses nimh and wasn't sure how many amps I should charge a 5000mah 4.8v pack. Thanks in advance if you could help. I ask because know you use both and I've not used nimh packs for years.
I’m buying one
1114mat
Excellent 🤩👊🏻
TAMIYA Legends brought it last night, supper excited
👍
Thanks for watching Chris 😎👊🏻
I wish Tamiya would upgrade their kit designs to fit square LiPo packs.
Yeah there very hit and miss with that unfortunately 😞
I still have a original TA03 Chassis there was also a alloy motor cover availible I may still have one or lost to time.
Warwick Eion Campbell
Thanks for watching 😊👊🏻
So I went to buy one of these but of course, they're all sold out 🙁 I did come across somthing called a tt02 rs. Its a bit more expensive and dorsnt come with a body. Are these chassis's any good. Is the chassis on this porshe better? I'm starting to get really confused with the all different chassis's tamiya has 😅 thanks for the help bro 👊
Harlon David
Hey 👋🏻
Yes this one has been a great seller, seems to have been very popular 🤩. The above chassis you mentioned is actually much better and is the very latest upgraded chassis kit on the TT-02. So yes it’s a really good kit to buy my friend 🤩👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends awsome! I'll be getting the tt02rs then. It'll be my first tamiya kit 😀 I'm almost afraid to enter the world of tamiya because it may leave me more broke thwn I already am 😄 ive been in the hobby for a year now and It's killed my wallet 🤪 anyways, thanks so much for the help and putting out awsome vids. Have a great day brotha👊
As the plastic of the diff cover seems to be branding around the 3 screws i would say they are much to tight.
No go to a 3.5 brushless. Lol but I would love to see it run with such a motor or as high a kV motor you could put on a rc.
Thanks Brad 😊👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends don't forget Glenn it is a Porsche and it should run like one with a fast motor.
If that stock pinion is Aluminium, AV. throw it, it wears sharp very quickly and eats spur gear for breakfast.
Thanks for the feedback 😊👊🏻
Hey I’m a beginner to building rc cars with literally no experience at all so I find it very hard to understand. Why do you grease parts?
Hi Glenn, did you run this car?
martin harrell
I haven’t yet Martin, I’m planning on getting it out soon with a couple of other road cars I’ve recently finished 😎👊🏻
TAMIYA Legends cool, have you got hold of a TC01 yet?
martin harrell
No I’ve got a sneaky feeling there’s is a MS version coming out soon, so I’m going to hang on for that version 🤩🤞🏻🤞🏻
What oil have you got in your shocks .
I wouldn’t have a clue as they’ve been built for years, I’d guess Tamiya soft oil 🤔🤷🏼♂️
Thanks
Never had a car with 5 different bearings eh??? WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE CAR GLENN?????? Sorry for shouting late but the Avante has got 5 different bearings in. The two ‘Standard’ Tamiya bearings, the big ones for the diffs and there’s two different sizes for the bevel gears (don’t know why, they could’ve been the same but there are two different ones). I only know this cos I’ve just rebuilt a standard Avante from parts AND built a Black Avante from a proper kit (spoilt myself as I’ve been looking at it in the box for AGES and I was desparate to see her built and running). Just watching through a load of old TA-0X builds and loving them (again, cos I’ve already watched ‘em once 😀). Anyway mate, I hope you’re ok and loving life.
How much in U.S money is that car??
Is anyone aware of a 3s battery that fits into most tamiya battery trays?
Hi Glenn
Hey 🤩👊🏻
TAMIYA Legends great build mate, can’t wait to see it go
Did you just put grease in those diff cups?🧐🤔 you should really use silicone diff oil......why didn't you?
Just following the instructions 🤷🏼♂️
@@TAMIYALegends hmmm, that's interesting. I'm definitely no tamiya expert. The only things I know about tamiya rc's is from what you showed me. If those diff cups came with gaskets, it would be interesting to see how that car handles with proper diff oil. 🙂👊
@@GoFindAsafeSpace The diffs aren't fully sealed. Oil will leak, grease won't
Im using a 12t steel pinion in one of my ta03f-s. The rpm is very high, poor motor. (:
Cool 😎
Hopefully I’ll have a play with a few different pinions 🤩🚗💨💨💨
Awful looking motor that porsche.
🔥
