The humility of him saying that the job of documenting the events of 9/11 should be left to the real Wordsmiths and then he writes something like this... The man is a humble poet and a genius

I was at this concert. It was a charity gig for the Prince's Trust on my 30th birthday. The original is sung as a duet with Emmylou Harris on the All the Roadrunning album. Great stuff. And a wonderfully heartfelt reaction.

One of the things I've loved about Mark's solo career is that with all of the live recordings ( which are more relaxed than the DS rock area ), here talks about the story of what inspired the song, which, like this heart-wrenching song it makes the song even more powerful .

I'm a lifetime fan of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits. Very emotional song. Thank you both for you wonderful reaction to an amazing artist and also to a very sad event in history. ❤

This is why Mark is that much better than most other musicians, he can touch your heart with his guitar and words, this is such an emotional song. Your right, Mark is a lot happier now he is a solo artist, and he has released more songs as a solo artist than Dire Straits.

Hello from Switzerland, great reaction to a wonderful song. Marc Knopfler also plays it as a duet with Emmylou Harris, he is just as emotional in this version as when he plays it alone, just a little different. Yes, his guitar playing certainly makes a difference here, which fits perfectly (like with Brothers in Arms).

The pain and the horror of that day should not be allowed to triumph over the true beauty of humanity, as it really is. Mark's song, while refreshing the memories of that pain, is a beautiful tribute, honoring those who suffered.
Those sub-title lyrics in that video were the MOST painful! They were so wrong...!

Do listen to the original studio version sung with Emmylou Harris.
This performance was a charity sort of showcase with minimal arrangements. It’s beautiful too but believe me, try the original version too!

A little bit of information for you, David Gilmour has been working on a new album, during which he visited Mark Knopfler´s studio, and the rumour is that they have worked on a few bits of music together, can´t wait, would´nt a live show be something, we live in hope...Peace.

There's a beautiful photo of both lads in the studio.
Still nothing is known whether it's a collab of just Gilmor's solo project.

Nice! Hard to hear this and not wish for Emmylou Harris, who of course sings with him on this and the rest of "All the Roadrunning" - not to be missed in any Knopfler journey.

Hi guys as soon as I saw this reaction video I thought, oh no this is going to hit them hard like it did with me. I saw this tragic event in Australia live on TV. I used this song for my dad's funeral I loved it so much as a song. Sometimes we have to face sadness, it's apart of life. This song is necessary, we learn about the value of life, I just love MK so much. He writes about everything. I've learnt so much about life from his songwriting. Cheers guys ❤

Looking forward to seeing from you other reactions to Mark's solo production 🙂 Considering that Dire Straits era started in the late '70s and ended in 1993, his solo career is actually so much longer and with many stuff that (I bet it, because you both are so clever, smart and sensitive) you can properly appreciate without prejudice and without unnecessary comparison with the older songs. My personal suggestion would be to check out for first the original studio versions from the albums, with some exceptions. Another good point IMHO is that in the early 2000s he quitted to smoke; this was evident in the quality of his voice starting from the album published in 2002 ("The ragpicker's dream"), and I guess you'll love how beautiful, intense, clear and deep was his mature voice in the following years

This is a truly beautiful song about undying love. The video's closed captions were poor. This is the studio version of his album with Emmylou Harris. She sang with him on many of his hits.

Mark broke up dire straits 2 times, in 1986, they played '88 at Mandela concert, then made the 1990/91 record on every street with tour till 1993. Between he made more than one album! He told a journalist dire straits was to big for him, with 3 different stages touring around. He was asked about the fame, he said "that comes with it", isn't that nice - to have the best table in a restaurant? " i like to have my bbq at home with friends"! It's a dire straits song but i think you like it, and when you find the right one, you see a bbq at his home. The song is " my parties". Thank you for your videos.

I also hear he was backstage at one of the shows on the final tour with John Illsley , they were touring with several different stages and they saw people who worked for the band but they had no idea who they were and they did not like that, that's how big the tours were.

I have great sympathy for the victims and descendants of the terrorist attacks, but they don't come out of nowhere! Doesn't mean to justify the attacks, but sometimes it's called terror, sometimes it's called military operations (with coletetal damage)🤔
    Great Song.
