When new offer is +60-100% higher and current employer doesn't match it (read Microsoft :)), there is basically no choice for the candidate except leave. It doesn't matter if new place has less opportunities to grow. It's just financially stupid to not accept a new offer.
Are you sure? :) Stupid is a strong word. I've definitely seen people hopping around getting themselves from 100k to 300k TC but stuck there for many years while their peers got to 500k-1M TC step by step through a steady growth trajectory within the same timeframe despite a slower start. This is a very personal decision though - I don't mean to imply taking a higher offer is anything bad - just wanted to call out the nuanced tradeoffs that are not always obvious.
