    My hair has been like this since the day I got hair. It isn’t damaged its just frizzy, its unstyled, I don’t care to waste my time on earth making my hair “presentable” to match the Eurocentric beauty standards that are based in white supremacy. My time, effort and money are far more valuable than conforming to society!

    Your hair doesn't even look "damaged", it just has a lot of baby hairs and new hair that might look crazy because of your porosity type, but that's it. My hair is the same. I'm tired of curly hair influencers pretending our hair can look like we just came out of a Pantene commercial every single day, that's totally unrealistic.

      As a type 4 girlie, I had no idea girls with looser textures also struggled with this. Just goes to show texturism exists for ALL curly haired girls no matter the type. Because here in the black community, we get a lot of hate from our own if our type 4 hair looks "frizzy" and isn't gelled down. Like the disrespect to Simone Biles! It's crazy how the same ones who shout about natural hair lose their minds when they see hair in its actual natural state!

I also have this type of hair and I heat straighten it since 13 years old. Cuz I can't stand it. No matte how much I hydrate it, which kind of hair mask or conditioner I use. But then I realized that I was spending too much money, putting in too much time, and sometimes adjusted my schedule bc it was my wash day, or it was humid outside. Finally, I had enough. I shampoo my hair when it feels dirty, I condition it when I shower, and use no styling products. I’ve embraced my frizz and don’t care about what my hair “should” look like. It’s very liberating to not be hyper focused on one aspect of me. I have plenty of other things that I’d rather spend my energy on.

    My hair has been damaged not by heat or bleach, but by pulling out my hair for several years in the past. The areas that I pulled from the most have a frizzier texture that the parts that got less action. Pulling obviously added to the volume of hairs that were growing to meet the full length of my hair, so my hair has always been crazy frizzy.
    People have often asked me why I let it run wild and don't style it... I don't even really find that insulting anymore I just think it's so weird to expect I would want to meet their standard for pretty hair lol. I was bald in middle school -- you can't hurt me Sarah.

    Bruh for those who say spending on so much hair products and routines a day is self care. Not it’s not. Self care is basic hygiene and maintenance so your hair doesn’t fall off to non existence or it’s not tangled to the point it hurts. All beyond that is just spending time on making your hair looks good the way you wish it to be, unlike what you have currently.
    And it’s not applicable for all people. People might not be that bothered to make their physical appearance different than what they naturally look like.

    • @rachaelmerida
      @rachaelmerida  21 час назад

      Yes yes yes 🙌🏼 shampoo conditioner and detangling IS hair care! Everything past that is styling!! And styling is NOT necessary to life. My appearance is the least important thing about me. Not the mention the ableism that goes into all this too, expecting curlyheads to only exist with perfect curls and styling their hair all the time!

    The thing I have learned about hair is, you need to lean into its type, and embrace it. If you use techniques, tools, and products designed for your hair type, it will look amazing, even unstyled. Does that mean I make all my own products and am very particular about what touches my hair? Absolutely, but it looks exactly as healthy as I want it to be! If you're happy with how your hair looks, that's all that matters.

    High porosity gang!! ✨ And 2a-b here, on wash day my waves are waving. and the day after, most waves go away (unless I refresh but I'm not THAT obsessed with keeping it wavy). Or some sections will be more wavy while some sections are flat, making it look unruly (but its actually fine). Also for the side I sleep on, the waves are always flatter on that side haha
    Also I went thru some hair loss last year, so many hairs are different lengths rn. Still get quite a few unruly ones. I have a few white hairs popping up too, and because theyre still so short I call them my 'antennas' lol
    I wish my hair was wavier like yours!! Mine is nearly mid back, idk if ill go as long as you but props to you for taking great care of your hair ✨
    Edit: if anyone is really concerned with frizz, the classic satin pillowcase works wonders. And in the hot humid summer, a shampoo/conditioner with no humectants (ie glycerine, honey) helps a lot too.
    And I will say, my bf prefers frizzy hair. That's bc he is thinning, so it helps hide thin spots for him.

    • @rachaelmerida
      @rachaelmerida  26 дней назад +1

      Thanks for this lovely comment! ☺️ Wavy/curly hair will never look how it does on day 1 on any other days and thats why I hate this whole “curly hair needs to be perfect and not frizzy” thing because its simply not possible, like you said unless you are refreshing constantly which is just unrealistic!
      I like being outside and driving with the windows down, I’m not going to “fix” my hair 7 times a day! Also I relate to the hair being flatter on one side, I’m a side sleeper too haha😅
      I also had some significant hair loss last year from health problems, the regrowth is going to be frizzy 🤷🏻‍♀️ I LOVE that you call your lil white hairs antennas thats so cute! 😊

    My hair is a lot like this, though less curly. I don't like the frizz myself. No, its not damaged, unless you want to consider it genetically damaged, which isn't really accurate. But frizzy hair IS somewhat more fragile than a thicker smoother type if hair. Some conditioners do nothing to our type of hear, but a few do a decent job of coating the hair with a smoothing and protective outer coat, while not making everything oily or sticky. V05 Moisture Milk is the best I've personally tried, though I've never tried any haur care products in the top price tier.

      I just want to affirm that you are allowed to exist exactly how your hair grows from your head and that frizzy hair is gorgeous ❤️ maybe look up some old julia roberts frizzy hair photos, or old renaissance photos, back when frizzy hair was the beauty standard!! Remember trends are constantly changing, your body isn’t a trend, you just aren’t matching whatever society has said todays trend is. (Also friends build each other up! Have a talk with them about how it makes you feel, and if they still criticize you, maybe consider some boundaries or pulling away from those friends)

      @@rachaelmerida i really appreciate your words! i know we are constantly trying to change for society and it really does tire me out, a lot. my “friends” are nit good for me and i should consider finding some new ones or slowly pulling away. thank you so much! your hair is beautiful.

    I’ll never forget when a woman who did my hair cut off inches of my hair because it was all “split ends” 😭😭 No B***, my hair curls at the end because my hair is curly. My mom was so pissed when I came home that summer. What was worse was I told her to NOT cut my hair multiple times and that my mom said no. I’m black and it took years for me to get all that hair back. My mom still gets pissed thinking about it

      Oh my goodness! Pissed rightfully so! I swear hairdressers have some sort of superiority complex. Like I told you what I want and I’m paying you to do THAT and NOTHING more. I’m so sorry you experienced that, that is NOT okay!! 😡
