    I bought two PRS SE's last week. 'Paul's Guitar' and this very model you're demonstrating. As Les Paul guy, I needed something else and I have to say hands down that this John Mayer guitar is just an incredible guitar. I got mine from Anderton's for £600. To say that's a bargain is an understatement. It's a joy to play.

    I love the glassy, smooth more contained pickups in this. Great feel... and adds another beautiful palette to play with. I won’t give up the fender with the wild embellishments and classic tones. But this has its own thing going on and I’ve always loved the feel and quality of every PRS I’ve played Thanks for the review ❤️

    17:25 Mayer wanted more clearance on the high E side, something about that requiring Paul to flip the headstock profile because he wanted to keep the trademarked form.
    They talked about it in the first Silversky release video with Paul and John.
    PRS has always been about continually perfecting subtleties of the best instruments we’ve grown to love which is where I think the ‘Sky came from. When first meeting Paul in 1984 he drilled me for near an hour on the details of a Dean Z I had and why I felt it was such a great guitar.
    Tony I really like how you present things on your channel, always enjoyable interesting and instructive thank you!

    Nice review, what model was the fender Strat, I have to give the nod sound wise to the fender. And the tuning knobs on the se are a turn off, something I’d expect on a $150 guitar, same for the truss rod. Not sure without trying one about the 8.5 radius.

    Thanks for the great info on the Silver Sky SE. I just bought one a couple of months ago. I always wanted a strat style guitar and liked a lot of the PRS necks I've tried in the stores so I got the Silver Sky SE. This is actually a second one because the first one I got had pickups that would lose volume. I didn't want it repaired so I returned it and picked up another new one. So far so good, I love the neck action and I'm getting used to the single coil pickups since I spent decades playing a Gibson Explorer. This SE has some tiny defects that don't affect the playability and sound so I don't care too much about those. I'll probably end up putting a couple of dings on it in time anyway. It sounds great clean or with some overdrive pedals and in between. Finding a sub-$1000 USD guitar with this build quality and comfortable fretboard almost seems impossible these days so I'm quite happy with this purchase.

    Tried every single colour of these today in a shop after convincing myself for over a month that I need a fender strat. I read so much that I got high hopes but I wasn't necessarily hugely impressed. They sounded okay, they looked okay and they're quite nice for the price (especially the fretwork). I didn't like the feel of the back (felt a bit dirty and not as smooth) and seemingly high action but that might be on the shops. If they're set up wel or if you like the feel/sound these are really good (maybe even best in class for finish) for the money, even in Europe. If they came with a maple board I might actually look away from the US versions for an SE instead. (Also try to see the colors in person, the moon white and ever green are so different in person. The stone blue and dragonfruit are what I imagined through pictures)

    I think the direction of the headstock swoop is a consequence of giving more room on the treble side so the index finger, etc. has more freedom to grab some chords close to the nut. The tuners on the treble side are also shifted back accordingly. I think those were all smart technical and design choices.

    • @pimholsbeek7859
      @pimholsbeek7859 2 года назад

      In a video, John Mayer claimed the direction of the headstock swoop was about balance of the guitar sitting in your lap. If I remember correctly, he said that because the upper horn of the body is bigger, he felt it would only make sense that the lower “horn” of the headstock had to be designed this way.

    the rest of the specs smack of cost cutting.
