Great battle! Never underestimate a Galaxy class. It was super close on the first battle. I really thought the explosion from sovereign would have taken you out.
Only because of the crap AI vs a human player and the stupid auto shield redistribution thing. If anything, this shows how far apart they still are in terms of power.
@@PKPhoenix83 it’s not stupid, it actually mitigates a lot of the problems with the crap AI and makes fights against the AI tougher than they otherwise would be.
@@adamlee2111 But it's not canon at all as evidenced by the E losing shields in certain areas. To me, no fun if it doesn't simulate as close to real as possible. The War Galaxy is a good ship but I much prefer the Sovereign or Prometheus.
The Galaxy class really hung in there. It does go to show how the human factor swings things, I noticed the AI really failed to use the Sovs faster speed and maneuverability to swing that bow around and unload those quantums. Those are what really did the Galaxy in, she just was never designed to deal with weapons like quantums. The war refit is still a powerful ship not to be taken lightly.
The AI is terrible, it’s even worse when Felix is flying, he doesn’t use the Quantum’s or forward torpedoes barely at all apart from the opening volley
"The war refit is still a powerful ship not to be taken lightly." Indeed. Apart from the Sovereign, a Dominion battleship or a Borg Cube it could take on pretty much anything
One other thing of note is the Galaxy is officially intended for separation. Sensors, shields, even target tracking and weapons control should be redundant. Knocking any of them out should be twice as difficult as its peers and both hulls might have received reinforcement after the Odyssey incident. Sovereign could theoretically separate, but the Nemesis refit seems to abandon the idea in favor of a single vehicle with advanced powerful systems.
I just rewatched this and have got to say that your phaser arcs are absolutely beautiful. They are truly omni-directional in a way that isn't often represented in a lot of mods. Seeing the Galaxy class cycle through it's phaser arrays was a thing of beauty, a work of art, and truly a privilege. Outstanding.
The Dominion War demonstrated that armor matters! One can up-gun the Galaxy Class to near the same level of the Sovereign, but survivability will always be the difference between the two.
The Sovereign is basically a slim Galaxy with faster speed, more agility, and quantum torpedoes. However, I would still prefer a Galaxy class. It has plenty of extra space to refit with upgrades and new weapons. The Sovereign is limited on space.
Fantastic fight. Both ships perfkrmed well. I see the Dominion war refit Galaxy class acting in the role of a pure Battleship where as the Sovereign is a battlecruiser.
@@crownprincesebastianjohano7069 not really. the Sovereign is basically a mini-galaxy class but sacrifices all the extra space for more speed. No families can live on a Galaxy class.
@@TheBigExclusive That's the point is the Sovereign cuts out all of the Galaxy Class fat and turns into a lean mean fighting machine. Even a Galaxy set up for the dominion war will pale next to a sovereign. Newer phasers, better hull plating, faster, better shields and is more maneuverable. Then add in the quantum torpedoes and its game over.
@@crownprincesebastianjohano7069 But then again, Ambassadors got Type X eventually. War Galaxy probably got XII mid to end of war, But regardless, the Sovereign is a much more powerful and formidable starship.
That's because we know that the Sovereign was designed as a Warship, while the Galaxy-class act as a Flying Hotel and mobile Embassy due to large volume of Cargo Capacity.
Not really. The only thing the Sovereign has over the Galaxy is speed. Everything else can be refit onto a galaxy class. The Galaxy class has a ton of extra space.
@@TheBigExclusive Following that logic, if you gutted most of the living space in an Ambassador like the war Galaxy, you'd have something similar. But all in stock form in standard configuration, there isn't a lot of free space. Deletions would have to be made.
Not all the ships are flimsy. Many Starfleet ships designed in the TNG era were not well armored thanks to their hubris about having superior shields. However, during the DS9 era shields were not longer king of the ring, and armor became important again. Well-armored ships like the Sovereign, Neghvar or Galor can take a lot of punishment with shields down.
Damn those Sovereign shields are something else. Is it just capacity or fast recharge? That thing can soak up damage for days! Way better shielded then the Galaxy. That said, I'd say the Galaxy has more raw firepower. It's just that those Quantums did a LOT of damage. You should've focused them down first. Those things hurt.
It actually has weaker shields than the Galaxy! 15k vs 18k but the sovereign has fast recharge and the shields are regenerative, meaning some of the weapons fire actually reinforces the shield rather than depleting it
The Galaxy emphatically does not have more firepower. The Galaxy Class has Type X Phaser arrays and two dual-launcher torpedo bays. The Sovereign Class has the much more powerful Type XII Phasers, which are the ship-borne variant of the Type XI Phasers seen on starbases that can destroy attack ships with one-shot. 30%-40% more powerful. @@crownprincesebastianjohano7069 Too bad that Picard Season 3, and Bridge Commander are two completely different animals, and have zero in common (except the Star Trek universe). The only thing that gives the Sovereign the edge are the quantum torpedo's. Without them it qould be a MUCH more even fight and harder for the Sovereign. If the Galaxy had quantum torpedo's fore and aft, the Sovereign wouldn't stand a chance. The Galaxy is just a damned BEAST.

I love the phaser effect on the Galaxy. The light goes around the strip then emits. Looks beautiful.
Same!
I like the new rapid launch/fast reloading torpedo launchers. Nail-biter of a match...
The big arrays on the Galaxy and Nebula really highlight this effect 👍
