The Mormons reinterpreted the quote and stated it wasn’t about skin color, it was talking about the countenance of a people. We all know what those verses meant, as interpreted by so-called Mormon prophets for over 140 years, but keep allowing the Mormons to reinterpret and revise their doctrines to fit with the times. This
Is the only way for them to keep the church membership expanding.

If you ever have the time, I was raised for a short time in the mormon church as a foster child, along with my sister and my brother in the 70's early 80's. We'd been severely abused by our mother, And the company she kept. Our fathers were not in our lives. I found great comforts in the church dynamic and family home evenings and the family structure. It wasn't until my chastity talk with my Bishop,That I found the darkness in the church. Unfortunately my reporting this to my Foster mother, led to me being removed from the home separated from my brother and sister to never see them until I was an adult and had to find them myself. With the State of Oregon's help they covered up the abuse. Sent me away to a "school". I celebrated when I was able to choose to leave that cult.

Imagine being a racist white kid back in the 1820s and wondering how or why God made black people. And this same person changed his encounter with this being 4 times in less than 10 years. He claimed that he was commanded to translate a book from an ancient book of golden plates which were taken to heaven by one of these beings for some reason they didn't want us to check out those golden plates for ourselves. Maybe because they were not gold at all and they had lettering like someone was trying to create a new language?

Exclusive and insular are two common descriptors of this particular sect, whose morality is that of the early american frontier "closed house" concept. Theology adequate to cause congregants to keep themselves apart.
Compare and contrast to healthy spirituality, which encourages interfaith contacts, promotes wemyns health education, and teaches tolerance with a focus on personal development.

I hope all of you who read this will at least think about it a bit. Your abusive experience is abnormal, statistically rare and not a good reason to reject all that faith based groups may offer. @@Eddie229 Actually I do, I served my mission in Africa and taught many young people, both members and investigators about this. Even some of my African companions struggled with this and I was blessed to have the opportunity to help them come to terms with how God works. The curse isn’t the change of skin colour. The curse is being cut off from the Lords presence and the cursing of the land so that it would not yield them much fruit. On the other hand Nephi and his people remained in the Lords presence and the land was blessed for their sake insomuch that they prospered greatly and yielded much fruit.
The only truly loathsome part about this is the hardness of Laman and Lemuels hearts, they loved works of darkness too much as opposed to Nephis love for the Lord, who is the light of the world. Laman and Lemuel denied His light, they continually forgot Him, they repeatedly disobeyed Him, they kept choosing babylon/the world, they kept choosing pride, they kept choosing anger and violence, they loved sin and despised righteousness. They were so set on killing their brother Nephi they suffered the same fate as Cain who also loved wickedness and would not obey Gods voice. He too was cursed and cut off from the Lords presence, the land was also cursed for his sake. And the change of skin colour to mark him and his posterity as wicked and lovers of darkness continued through his posterity.
How blessed are we today to have the opportunity to hear the good news of Jesus Christ, to repent and return into the Lords presence, to have any such curses removed and prosper in the land. The people of Ammon did just that after their powerful conversion and the curse was lifted from them and they became favoured of the Lord and regained the Lords presence. They became fair and delightsome. As did many of my African brothers and sisters who too became converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ. How they were filled with such great light! How beautiful they looked on their baptism day, with the Holy Ghost burning within them. Their beauty and radiance shone as they went through the temple for the first time. Their countenance when they bore powerful testimony of the restored gospel. The Lord was absolutely present with them. They regardless of whether or not their skin colour changed, were favoured of the Lord and have been blessed to enter the presence of the Lord, to become numbered among the house of Israel, Gods chosen, covenant people, who shall if they endure to the end, receive their inheritance and their glory at that day when He shall make His triumphant return to the earth, where all the wicked shall be cut off forever, and all the faithful shall be given their promised inheritance and their glory and dwell with the Lord of Lords and King of Kings forever. This is the greatest of all the gifts of God. Don’t cut yourself off from His presence over something like this when there are far weightier matters at hand. God bless you 🙏

      @@Eddie229 1 Nephi 2
19 And it came to pass that the Lord spake unto me, saying: Blessed art thou, Nephi, because of thy faith, for thou hast sought me diligently, with lowliness of heart.
20 And inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper, and shall be led to a land of promise; yea, even a land which I have prepared for you; yea, a land which is choice above all other lands.
21 And inasmuch as thy brethren shall rebel against thee, they shall be cut off from the presence of the Lord.
Vs 20 the lord states the blessings. Vs 21 the lord states the curse. It is repeated over and over in the BOM. This was the pattern of blessing and cursing as found throughout the Old Testament as well. Which fits because Nephi lived during the law of Moses era.
But this passage in Alma 3 makes it abundantly clear:
6 And the skins of the Lamanites were dark, according to the mark which was set upon their fathers, which was a curse upon them because of their transgression and their rebellion against their brethren, who consisted of Nephi, Jacob, and Joseph, and Sam, who were just and holy men.
7 And their brethren sought to destroy them, therefore they were cursed; and the Lord God set a mark upon them, yea, upon Laman and Lemuel, and also the sons of Ishmael, and Ishmaelitish women.
8 And this was done that their seed might be distinguished from the seed of their brethren, that thereby the Lord God might preserve his people, that they might not mix and believe in incorrect traditions which would prove their destruction.
The curse was because of their rebellion against God. The mark was to set them apart and keep the two people from intermingling. But once that curse was lifted through the anti Nephi Lehis, it didn’t matter since they were both the Lords people again.
“The stone in a hat”. Yes that was the seer stone and such information is quite old. It’s something only a prophet and seer can use. And it only works by the power of God. The hat, yes. It proves that he was not copying any one else’s notes or manuscripts, but received the words directly from God as a translation of the plates. I recall the account where Martin Harris, in a test for Joseph, swapped out the seer stone for a regular stone and Joseph could not translate with it, until Martin gave him back the real seer stone. This was the same seer stone used in the translation of the Jaredite plates, which was found in the box Moroni left for Joseph buried in the hill Cumorah. More proof that this was a divine work that only a true servant of God could have accomplished. There’s no good reason to doubt its authenticity brother. Especially not to doubt the witnesses of the spirit you’ve received directly through His Holy Spirit. REMEMBER. And never forget it!

the thing about this that people tend to forget, is that God loves everybody. No matter what, you are all his creations, and in the Book of Mormon, it wasn't just a whole tribe that suddenly became darked skinned. and those who decided to do wrong before the lord were cursed and were turned dark skin. We are told that even those with white skin we're turned dark skin because of their wickedness. Now it is a test to love each other as we are, and I'm sorry you are struggling with the things of the Book of Mormon but God is not a racist he never was he literally created you. He loves each and every one of you even if you don't believe in him or hate him.
And with the idea of the dark skinned people as loathsome people. It means the wicked who got themselves cursed and were turned to dark skin, became loathsome, they gathered together. But in the end it also talks about being kind and loving toward us. And we need to be kind and loving no matter what because now and then you are judged based on your actions. IF you are cruel towards someone no matter what color, you are going to be judged of God and receive consequences.

I addressed this when I wrote my thesis on race and generational wealth inequality and how they relate to educational opportunities. Being exposed to diverse groups does help with this. Getting Mormons to interact with other groups of people is like telling a fish to join a soccer league though. They actively avoid it at every turn and are often told not to interact with Black people and non-Mormons.

Because God didn’t make them lighter once they repented. That is because the bad part isn’t the color. Remember there was even a prophet, Samuel the Lamanite.
