    Recently bought a khaki field automatic in 38mm , never thought I'd like a watch with such a small diameter as much. Absolutely great value , payed 570 euro for the metal bracelet version at my local AD.

    Despite being very aware that objectively it’s a bit silly Im a total sucker for the whole heritage and military connection thing 😂 And don’t get me started on a reissue of a military watch from a heritage brand 😍
    I really like the look of the Khaki Field Mechanical. I do think the lugs are a bit long and for the price I’d prefer a brushed case rather than bead blasted but then I remember that the original military issued Hamiltons were probably bead blasted and then I just glaze over and start humming the Damnbusters or Great Escape theme and then I think bead blasted cases are absolutely fine. Perfect in fact 🤣

    • @LumePip

      Thanks mate! And I think it’s a total selling point. It’s a bit like the “Omega presents our celestial Moon” thing and it’s natural to just want to experience something that mightn’t be part of our everyday lives vicariously through something even as seemingly trivial as a watch.
      Sorry, that was a bit of a mouthful. But I think it’s natural to like these aspects of some pieces 😅who doesn’t own an Arnie to just on some tiny level feel like the man himself? 🏋🏼‍♂️

    I have this watch and need to mention something I don’t think you thought of. As this is the perfect two-hand watch; and since it lacks a date, is very easy to set after non-use.
    My Glycine has a date; and after non-use one first needs to determine if it stopped in the AM or PM. And then one must advance the date and time.
    This takes at least ten times longer!

    Totally entertaining. Love the dry, yet pointed humor. I cherish my two Hamilton watches. I have the Boulton mechanical. It is a "dress" watch, but more oversized than previous Boultons. It is the white dial and does fit under the cuff nicely when I wear a tux and play viola in the orchestra. Love the shape, the Roman numerals and handsome blue seconds hand .My daily-wear Hamilton is the "Officer" Khaki Field Watch - olive dial. I finally switched out the stock strap. My new strap is the Hamilton Cow Leather and pin buckle. Mixed with the faux lume, the brown leather, cream threads, olive dial, domed sapphire and sand blasted case is just full of class every day. Both watches have that 80 hour power reserve that is priceless to me. Keep the videos coming. Yo! (Had to end Philly-style).

    The only thing that steered me away from the Field Mech was the crappy strap they give you (although I could’ve just changed straps later) so in the moment i chose the Field Auto and good lord am i in love with it being my first Swiss automatic watch ever purchased. Another great video mate..:I have the black dial version and I have been toying with either adding the white dial or selling the black dial for the white dial. For me it’s the best watch under £500. It has a certain charm and for me makes me feel good when I where it.

      @LumePip  3 года назад +1

      Thanks, Noel! Honestly, I was a gnat’s crotchet away from getting the black. On the leather nato, I think the black looks amazing. How’s the Crystal in terms of reflections on the black model?

    • @noelbeacher8016
      @noelbeacher8016 3 года назад

      @@LumePip you do get reflection…it’s not that bad though. Considering a bb58 as my next pickup…I seen you video which has kind of nudged me that little but closer to pulling the trigger

    • @LumePip
      @LumePip  3 года назад +1

      I think unless they coat it in AR, or it’s a white dial, reflections are just part and parcel of things. Luckily in the UK, we don’t get so much sun as for it to be too distracting 🥲honestly, though, the 58 is the watch I always go back to. Other watches come and go. That said, I’m hoping for an SMP 300 next year, but it’ll be very interesting to see how they compare over time and whether the 58 will still be the go-to. But it’s just the best luxury diver for that kind of money. I’m getting a Christopher Ward tomorrow, and their Trident Pro 600 models are also worth a look!

    • @noelbeacher8016
      @noelbeacher8016 3 года назад

      @@LumePip I’m also looking at the SMP300…there a couple of things that put me off though. 1) the size and 2) the bracelet. To be fair I nearly always take the bracelets off my watch and wear it on a strap. The size is a concern, however it’s a lot of watch for the money. What dial will you be going for? What colour BB58 do you prefer? I’m interested to hear your thought on the C Ward. I particularly like the C63 sea lander. I love the bezel on the GMT version and the splash of orange is very cool.

    • @LumePip
      @LumePip  3 года назад +1

      I really like the quick adjustment on the clasp, but you’re right, the lack of taper also means it’s not as elegant as it could be. In terms of colourways for the BB58, I was absolutely dead certain my black and gilt original was the only way to go, but then I tried the blue and my mind was truly blown. Maybe that’s hyperbole but it really did give me a headache

    I watch these kinds of reviews and I wonder: "why the hell can't all watch companies use drilled lug holes in their watches?"
    Is this some expensive modification to drill 4 additional holes in the piece of steel???

    • @LumePip
      @LumePip  3 года назад +1

      It’s such a simple addition that makes a whole world of difference!! And if you’ve got a watch that’s an utter strap monster (I don’t consider this to be because of the long lugs), it just makes life so much easier

  • @silv3rArrow
    @silv3rArrow 2 года назад

    I agree with the water resistance fake worries, but if it's the "only watch you'll ever need" it kind of needs it

    • @LumePip
      @LumePip  2 года назад

      Yeah, and I’d probably still have this if it was 100m+ water resistant, but I don’t. In terms of field watches, however, a lot do float around that 50m mark, so in that sense, I still think it’s the only FIELD watch you’d need. I’m actually considering getting one again!

    I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum, I only buy mechanical watches with no date complication, who has the time and who only has the one or two watches who watch these vids?
    Solar and Quart with date no problem,,,,,,
    I'm torn between this model or the new 42mm version (I have 8" wrist) I tried them both on at a local shop here in Oregon still confused, 38 original is original and fits better than I thought, 42mm with white dial looks huge and I have some 48mm dive watches and Gshocks that look fine, so......

    • @LumePip
      @LumePip  Год назад +1

      Sorry for the delay! I didn’t have any such issues, but I was quite careful about where I left it because it’s only rated to 50m, so I basically kept it away from water/condensation at all costs! As for non-water-related fogging, I can’t say I had any issues. It was always very clear and I didn’t have any issues with the Crystal 👍🏻
