French People Try to Pronounce Difficult English Words

- I make French people pronounce difficult English words! It's simple, the rule is they have to be 100% French to participate. Then, I show them a series of hard English words and they have to attempt to say them out-loud. Thats it!

@Christian Wague Sandjong Ok pari.
@@jaimelabouffe4565 yep. They're hopeless. There's many other cities and villages in France where there's poeple that are good in English (by good, I mean, better than them :D)
As a native English speaker who has studied French, I think “choir” looks like a French word, and I can’t blame them for pronouncing it the way they did. I’m surprised they didn’t all comment on how the spellings of English words often seem to have no relation to their pronunciation. By the way, the last word is spelled wrong, at least on the screen. There is only one “h” in the word “psychotomimetic.”
Isn’t that what they call “false cognitive?”
@@morgandeclercque4608 do you mean false cognate?

As japanese, i get very nervous when i speak English because because the structure and pronunciation of English is completely different from that of Japanese. but i learned that nobody can speak their second language perfectly thanks to this video!
@@CharlesNauckOpposite of my experience
Yes you are right 100%. Most people don't learn well because they are affraid of being ridiculous. When in fact most people are realy supportive dont give judgement and find it "cute" when you don't say words properly. So keep going !
The Japanese accent is so cute and the Japanese language always has a nice ring to it
Yeah Charles is right, if we can understand you it doesn't matter, and even if not it's wrong to be rude. Plus I found out at 14 that I was pronouncing six wrong, some of us can hardly get our native language right 😅
@@CharlesNauckThe fact that ethnicity would even be a factor in this situation is horrible.

"Hey can you pronounce 'choir'?"
French person: "Sure."
Well it’s like the word chat which means cat in French, and it’s pronounced as if an America person was saying “sha” their words that start with ch are pronounced shhh instead of ch. That’s why when they said choir they pronounced it like that if that makes any sense at all.
We would have pronounced sho-R
Yeah but in french "choir" means to fall si they just use the french word
@@P0pBitch Yes that's why it's true but also the french word for Choir is "Chœur" and it's almost pronounced the same way.
Lol I see what you did there haha
I have so much respect for the French people. As an American visiting overseas, I did my very best to learn, speak, and respect their beautiful language, but they would go above and beyond if I struggled (and genuinely politely, with no snarky backhandedness) usually help out by speaking with me in English afterwards, while still encouraging me in a positive way to continue learning French. I have nothing but nice things to say about the people I met there.🙂
I agree! I didn’t meet any of these “stuck up” French people I heard so many Americans talk about

I think the most difficult part of learning French is the fact that a lot of the letters or words are silent, which happens in English just not as much😅French is so much fun to learn though! I imagine learning English to suck
In English, the problem is that letters or groups of letters always have different pronunciations
As a bilingual that speaks both french and english, I found this video extremely funny, and slightly relatable.

When someone was shy to try 'successful' it was a good strategy to have a few others to try to not put them on the spot. 6:25. Many native english speakers do not pronounce "Th" either, it's entirely lacking in so many dialects of English. Irish English (famous for saying "Tirty Tree!" for 33), London English, Thames English, Indian English. It's effectively a feature now in many accents and dialects to pronounce "Th" as either T, D, F or V depending on context.
For context, i'm from Kent, a part of england that is regarded as one of the more "posh" counties, and yet most people along the Northern coastline pronounce 3 as "free" and the as "ve".
As an TEFL instructor... "Choir" is insane! I have to underline the first part of "quiet" and then tell them it's the same pronunciation. And also, while I studied French in Jr, High, and College. I cannot for the life of me understand how they can get syllables, with double consonants, mixed up. I swear they have similar rules.
Someone: shows a French man a word with too much 'R'
Frenchman: *breaks*
Tbf, the English R is quite different from what other languages use as R. Most languages form R using the tongue similar to L, while English uses the lips similar to a W. This is why languages with no R at all tend to default to L (see "Engrish") and why Elmer Fudd uses W instead of L (see "Waskiwwy Wabbit")
@@michaelweiske702 Elmer Fudd is an American character who has a speech impediment.
@@80sGamerLady yes, he does, and that speech impediment makes it difficult to pronounce R's properly, though he still mimics the motions with his mouth, hence the W sound. Thank you for providing this very useful information.
Same with Americans. They pronounce Mirror as "meer" and "terrorist" and "tourist". Americans struggle with R's more than French.
@@wollybumbol214 I, as an american, must disagree with you. I can see the mirror-meer connection, but we do not pronounce terrorist as tourist. We know terror has two syllables, and no one pronounces tour as tear (as in a page).
