Fix Apple App Store Upgrade Problem - Spinning Wheel when updating Pages, Numbers, Keynote, FCPX etc

- Recently I updated Pages on my iPhone. My Mac version was a few versions behind, so it couldn’t open the files from the iPhone. When I tried to update my Mac version on the Apple Store, the wheel just kept spinning and it wouldn’t download the update and it never gave me an error message.
My Mac OS was too old for the current version the App Store had, but I needed the previous version just to be compatible with my phone.
This video shows you how to load the previous version of an App Store app that is the latest that is compatible with your older Mac OS version.

Omg thank you so much! If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t have been able to fix my iMovie app. I used the same method and put the app in trash and then reinstalled to fix the problem. I have been working on a very special surprise 80th birthday video for my dad as he is stuck overseas due to Covid and I won’t be able to celebrate with him so I made this video for him to watch. I collated 60 videos from all his friends and family and I put a slideshow of photos together too. It has taken me over 3 weeks to create this video. When I went to share the project and save the video, imovie gave me an error saying there was an issues with the compressor. After doing some research I realized my version of iMovie was old and needed an update. However as my iMac was also on an old software version I couldn’t download the new iMovie update. Your workaround has saved me! Thank you so much! My dad will get to see his video now.
Oh my gosh this is amazing - you have saved me so much hassle because I had no idea how to download an earlier version - many thanks!
Thank you! Searched for so long to get this fixed!

Wow nice work 👍👍
it really worked for pages and keynote thanku somuch :-) numbers not working
Big help to me today, thanks!
Happy to help!
at first this didn't work, still said need version 10.15 +, but did what Chartt said 6 months ago, by going into 'purchased' and worked a treat, I seem to be able to insert pictures at the bottom of the pages again, not just the top ! 👏 Thanks everyone
great thanks I have numbers 10.1 now
very goods
This worked for me, but the App Store wouldn't give me the option of downloading an older version of Pages or Keynote on the app's page. I could get it to download an older compatible version by going to 'Purchased" and clicking the install button there. Thanks for this tip!
Thank you for this. That's what ended up working for me too :)
@@arlakean475 me too, thanks Cartt
BGM is very nice, what is the title of this?
How do I work on an old Pages document from 2014 on a new Macbook 2020. I can do basic text editing but much else doesn’t work
I have the same situation. Running High Sierra. Did everything per your instructions but doesn’t give me any option to update or install.
For those of you who are still having problems since it still says that you need to upgrade in a newer version do this.... delete pages application. Then press on the app store, on the top left of the menu go to where it says "Sign Out." Then sign back in & redownload pages application. You Should be able to download the older version anyway.
Was so excited but it didn't give me the install older version option. :( Said it couldn't be downloaded. UGH! Seems to have worked for most everyone else though. Bummer!
hi gemsbok,
My OS high sierra 10.13.6
i already download the keynote from the app store, but can't opened, its say the app quit unexpectedly while using the plug-in
can you sharing the solutions, Thanks
Is it work for iMovie as well?
i couldn't continue because it said.."Keynote can’t be installed on “Macintosh HD” because macOS version 10.15 or later is required." :(
got an error box "Keynote Failed To Download: Use the Purchased page to try again." Any help with what that means?!
Mine is running 10.11 and it did the process but then when I installed it just said 10.15 is required for this version.
I was updating os Catalina from AppStore ,, clicked update and it froze ,, could you help ,, rest everything is working but when I open AppStore the Catalina is still stuck ,, didn’t even start downloading,, from past 7 days
And what happens to all the work you had on there before you deleted? Is it still there?
I just spent 5 hours I learn to use this app so well but with the updates it changed I am not happy
I tried with imovie for os x 10.11 6 and don't work. I don't have the option of compatible mode. Any advice?
While in your app store, go to your "Purchased" tab. See if it asks you to sign in there with your Apple ID. If it does, signing in should fix the issue.
does this work with iMovie if it says iMovie can’t be installed on “Macintosh HD” because macOS version 10.15.6 or later is required.
did you figure it out?
@@ismaelivanaguilerapalacios1128 yeah just install catalina or big sur i suggest big sur
i have a document that still won't open
Doesn't work for me, deleted, tried, I get install instead of upload, but then it says 'You need macOS 10.14 :(
EDIT : from the menu bar I was logged in, but from the purchased tab it asked me log in again, and then it worked. Thank you
Thank you for figuring that out! I had the exact same issue.
For anyone who is still lost: After moving the app to trash, if you see "Get" instead of "Install", and then "Install App" after clicking "Get", you'll get the message "You need macOS 10.14".
Go to the "Purchased" tab across the top, and it will ask you to sign in with your Apple ID. After you sign in there, you can go ahead and install the app.
@@TryMyMartini hi, still saying to me "Numbers can’t be installed on “Untitled” because macOS version 10.14 or later is required." what can I do??
@@TryMyMartini god thanks!
@@TryMyMartini Cheers, just what I needed ;)
It worked for almost all of the files, but the one I actually wanted to open. :(
I doesn't work for me, it says it can not be installed as it's require newer version
did you figure it out?
I don't have an Install button, I have a Get button
