"It's a co-axial watch, I don't know what it means but it is beautifull" the way you said it really made me laugh but I appreciate the honesty and not trying to act like you know what that is. Great content but I always come back for your personality and honesty. Keep up the great work!

SARTORIAL TALKS The co-axial device incorporated into a watch movement counteracts the affects of gravity on the watch. Some watches (rarely) have two co-axial devices in them.

    • @clementr
      @clementr 4 года назад +11

@@rogerdsmith no, it's not. You confound co-axial escapement with tourbillon.
The tourbillon, created by Abraham-Louis Breguet, is a cage around the escapement which spins in order to, as you say, counteract the perturbations caused by gravity. And it's very rare and expensive.
The co-axial escapement, created by George Daniels in 1999, is a specific escapement (inspired by the Robin escapement) which aims at preventing the escapement from disturbing the balance wheel, to keep an accurate time

@@wordwarrior2350 Not sure why you are here. If you don't understand what makes a quality watch, you won't understand what goes into a good suit, shirt shoes. It's not about keeping accurate time. You can get that with a quarts watch. To do that in a mechanical watch with nothing but gears and springs is an art. You can buy a suit at Men's Wearhouse or you can get a bespoke Huntsman. Both will cover your body more or less the same. The difference is your appreciation of the quality of how it was made. Same with a watch.

I so agree. The fashion for men wearing a wristwatch like a bracelet, is not elegant.
In addition, the cult of James Bond wearing dive watches with black tie, has indoctrinated a generation of men to think this is the height of sophistication. As we know, it looks ridiculous.
I note that wristwatch scale is becoming smaller again, which is good to see.
If we can reach a level of understanding, where sports watches are for sport and dress watches are for elegant dress, the world will be so much easier on the eye!

Thanks Hugo! I remember when I asked you to make a video about watches a while ago, I was immediately excited to watch this video when I saw it on my feed.
Great content as always, you picked several of my favorites, I would add the following:
    Omega Constellation Globemaster Annual Calendar
A Lange & Sonhe Saxonia Thin
    Rolex Cellini Moonphase
Jaeger Le-Coultre Master Ultra Thin Moon in White Gold

Hugo I was so glad to see you finally show us some watches that you like. My Mom & Dad and myself all love watches, my Dad has a Piaget Polo, and my Mom has the Cartier Tank (silver/gold edition) I myself have a small collection (about 11 watches) my favorite is a vintage Hamilton that belonged to my Granddad, it has that classic simple look that always goes with everything you wear, which you do not see much of now days. Great episode, love all the watches you showed us.

Great thank you Hugo, very interesting to hear your take on watches. I wanted to ask if you and Sonya (hello Sonya) were thinking of doing a series on casual wear for the gentleman. I have loved and enjoyed the series so far and have learned a great deal and I guess for me it is knowing about the art and history of suit and shoe making that has been great and the artisans themselves, so please continue. But I just thought it would be interesting and of course a minefield to get your thoughts and ideas on what you feel and think one would wear in less formal situations. Good to see you are well, I'm shooting my video tomorrow, here's hoping.

@@SARTORIALTALKS Kind of you to ask Mr Hugo, I have my own channel here and I will be shooting a second video from my home office, of course, where else can we go. It will be about sales but this one will focus on what the real opportunity for business is in this crisis. It is a new channel so there is just one video there now, this will be the second, it will be edited first after I shoot it tomorrow by my guy and we will put it up by the end of the week or beginning of next. Like you I do not do one a week. The channel is under the title - The Sales Director ruclips.net/channel/UC0O5oTV2t22ivt7eg0zaOkQ

I am a watch guy and you have some pretty good choices Hugo. The escapement is the gear device that sends impulses to actually move the watch hands. The coaxial escapement is a modern version used in Omega watches and is extremely accurate

I don't think the coaxial escapement necessarily affects the accuracy of a watch, it's goal is to reduce friction and thus the need for lubrication.

The faces of the 1942 from Vacheron Constantin and the F.P. Journe are like replicas of the "trench watches" that were issued to American and British soldiers in WWI & II. Different versions were made my several different watchmakers, but the general layout and the font of the numbers were always the same and very recognizable. It has been copied countless times since the war. I wear my grandfather's original still to this day. It is not large, even on the small side for a man's watch, but so very simple and elegant.

    - 849 caliber(in some variation) is used by holy trinity(ap,vc and patek)
-a display caseback to loupe around the finish of the movement which display the classical swiss finish(anglage, black polish , blued screws)
