    I love the joint collab between these two channels and the focus on low cost value watches. I suppose most of us have been attracted to “designer brands” sold at department stores in the beginning of our watch journey; especially before RUclips. However these watches highlighted in this video definitely trump the the designer brands!

    I’m kinda happy Federico mentioned the Casio G-Shock. My dad and brother, both world-class competitive sailors in their time, _lived_ by these watches.
    The G-Shocks could manage pretty complex timer functions, which is invaluable for rolling starts on the race course, and the watches were pretty long-lasting (I think my dad and brother would replace theirs every 4-5 years or so, which isn’t bad considering the UV and blunt-force damage they would sustain)

    Solid stuff. However, if you don't mind going vintage, there's loads of worthy Soviet watches out there for your consideration for well under $100. Typically high-quality with at least decent jewel counts and glydocur balances, with quite awesome design for the most part. For instance, the Raketa 26XX series is regarded by many as being one of the most durable movements to ever have been concieved by human hands.

    • @filippomonaco2303
      @filippomonaco2303 Год назад +1

      You don’t even need to go for soviet watches. I have a vintage Certina I paid less than my bambino and a vintage Perseo I paid a little more.

    • @jakekaywell5972
      @jakekaywell5972 Год назад

      @@filippomonaco2303 You don’t need to, sure, but for the sub-$100 bracket you do if you expect them to work immediately upon purchase. While outliers exist, certainly, Soviet pieces are reliably all I described and therefore can be replicated by anyone.

    My personal choice for an affordable but stylish mechanical watch would definitely be a Vostok Amphibia. For a price of under 100 dollars you get an iconic automatic in-house movement with classic design and long history, insane water-resistance and durability as well as great opportunities for modding. I own many watches but my vintage 30+ year-old Amphibia with a modded bezel and custom heavy bracelet is my everyday choice.

    Really pleasantly surprised by this video. The watch world has become overrun with a focus on "luxury" and bling that really rubs my fellow old school horologically minded gentlemen the wrong way. There are several modestly priced watches below $500 that I vastly prefer over watches costing many times that amount.For dress watches I prefer the Timex Marlin with 34mm dial over the Orient Bambino, but that is mostly just a matter of taste. The current generation Bambinos are just too big for me and many others. Thank god the general trend in watchmaking over the last year is towards smaller dials as anything over 38 mm is typically unsuitable as a dress watch. I hope Orient follows this trend and goes back to smaller dial sizes with lug to lug measurements of 42mm or less. It's otherwise a great choice, particularly for larger wrists. The 1983 Seagull is another great choice for any use other than as a dress watch. The one with the 38 mm dial is the sweetspot for many. I couldn't agree more about strap replacement. There aren't going to be many high quality straps on watches that cost a few hundred dollars. A nice replacement strap really can elevate a watch and make an enormous difference in its wearability.
