This is an interesting performance for me. I attended a Valery Klimov performance in Canberra around 1986, probably part of this tour. He played the Beethoven violin sonatas. Paul Keating, who later became Australian prime minister, was in attendance.
So glad to be able to view this masterful, sparkling performance of the great, spiritually enriching Concerto for Violin and Orchestra by Aram Khachaturian. Now the rest of us can learn more about the virtuosity and artistic savoir-faire of violinist Valery Klimov.
Legendary viola section. Heathern audience. 😂 Klimov gives as always a super charged performance....nothing fancy.....just the full package. Tartini taught in Russia and was pretty much an ancestor teacher to Klimov....

Yes it used to be Ok for about 300years before someone in the last century decided that to prove educated you had to know the music and thus know when to clap. All good;
There is one CD as good as this vdo with better sound on Melodya Label, recorded in studio1980. Klimov is the best far away from all the other violonist....

one of my favourite violin concerto , technicaly this is too good , soloist and the orchestra lifted the 3rd movement fantastic and fast

Such beautiful tone, can no longer find it among today's violinists, in Oistrakh's league. Actually he was Oistrakh's student.
