    About a decade ago when I was in high school, I'd developed a fascination with the mandolin family of instruments, in particular the mandocello. Back in Old RUclips there was just a video or two to prove it existed. Was showing them to a friend right now and I'm so happy to know there are people out here making great music with them!

    Hello Luke, I’ve really enjoyed your videos and tunes. Had to laugh as I was about to comment on one of the older videos that it was nice to see some mandocello videos that weren’t all Bach and TADAA! Here it is! Very well done though. I have one myself and I appreciate being able to watch and learn from your technique. Thanks man!

      Hi Scott! Thanks for your comment mate I’m so grateful to know that someone enjoys my videos. I have thought the same thing for so long, this g major Prélude seems to be 99% of anything Mandocello you see online! But, I had some people request it and I succumbed to the pressure and put it up on Facebook and it has blitzed anything I’ve posted in terms of numbers of views and interaction etc. So at the end of the day it was worth it 😂 but I know what you mean!
      Thanks again mate!

    I can play the violin, viola, and mandolin (Originally classically trained on the viola) How easy of a transition would it be to play the mandocello? I absolutely love the sound but I'm worried about the fingering and size of the instrument.

    • @lukewilliamwright
      @lukewilliamwright  9 месяцев назад

      The fingering can be similar to viola, as it’s the same tuning just an octave lower. I would research if any music shops in a reasonable distance have any in stock and then go there and spend 30mins messing around. You’ll know pretty quickly if the size of the instrument is going to be an issue. Also, it’s relative in scale length to an acoustic guitar if that helps

    I'm curious what gauge and brand of strings you use for your mandocello. I just bought one...one of the Chinese Pango mandocellos. I set it up with a standard D'Addario set of strings (0.74, 0.48, 0.34, 0.22) and I'm just curious if you might use or consider using some lighter strings? They feel so heavy to me, so I'm curious if other folks use different gauges than that. Thanks!

    • @lukewilliamwright
      @lukewilliamwright  3 года назад +2

      Hi! I have tried lighter gauge strings, on this particular mandocello I have gone back to the standard d’addario as it really does sound better with the heavier gauge. I’m not at all opposed to folks going with lighter strings, whatever works for you and your instrument 👍

    • @denverbass
      @denverbass 3 года назад

      You might want to consider giving it a setup too. A good setup from a on a stringed instrument will make it play easier than the factory set up

    • @jdsmusic233
      @jdsmusic233 3 года назад

      @@denverbass That is definitely true! I need to find a good place to get the job done, but I know it would make a world of difference! Right now with the standard strings it’s not easy to play and some of the frets are in need of adjustment!

    nice but...where is the tempo ?

    • @lukewilliamwright
      @lukewilliamwright  Год назад +1

      Good question. Ancient scholars believed that tempo could be infinitely devised from the universe through the phases of the moon and thus the universe itself was seen as a great time keeper known as ‘Bullashittara’.
      Shakespeare famously wrote: ‘From whence cometh tempo? Doth tempo cometh from thine within?’
      From a quantum perspective, what is tempo? And if we ask where it is, we are assuming it comes from somewhere. Then we must ask, What is somewhere?….What is what?….What is?….Is?
