OMG ARE YOU KIDDNG ME!!!!! All I can say is foreal BMW 😮! #ultimatedrivingmachine My dad and I have been trying figure out this issue for over a year and you figured it out! I hit a fat daddy ass tire in Texas and it messed up the level sensor. I was going to document my findings and post it to YT to try to help move the conversation forward since a lot more people had this issue in the forums I read and then here you go today explaining everything 😩😩😩 I thank you sir! Now I can buy a salvage 340i and replace the take for under 1k. Thanks again and I will keep tuning in… into the fire content!
Thank you for all of your hard work and research. Its these kinds of problems that drive owners of BMW's who do their maintenance themselves up and over the F...n wall. Your car probably wanted to go home to the dealership and visit friends. In doing so it was going to spend $1000's of your money because the service dept. was slow that day😂. Thank you for spreading the knowledge and continuing to provide great and cost saving info
Timing on coming out with this video couldn’t have been better. Pretty sure my second fuel level sensor is broken. Bmw wanted to replace the tank and it wasn’t covered under my warranty some how so I’m just going to do it and use your other video as a guide. This was super informative though, and so good to know. There’s not much online about this issue.
Thanks for the video Kevin, appreciated! Great to see how our fuel tank is designed and built. So now I understand why I managed to track my car until end of the stint when I had 3L fuel left in the tank (acc to MHD log, then went up to 6L after iddling for a bit), without any issues. As I use 1,5 tank per trackday, next time I will plan a bit better my little tour to town for refuelling and do it betwen 1/2 to 1/4 tank left, just in case)
yeah, at my track day last weekend it didn't even alert until i had 30 miles to empty. I went to fill up and the car was probably over a quarter tank (only took 11.x gallons). so it tries to estimate fuel level based on the readings it's getting + your recent consumption.
So I’ve got a problem where I run out of fuel at 1/4 tank but the reading is accurate, the pipe that crosses over is connected I’ve checked, what could cause me to not be able to use the fuel sat in the side of the tank with no pump
Has this problem been solved? I have experience a similar experience where my F30 320i was at 1/4 tank and it started and just died and the car didn't want to start until I putin some fuel. After i put the fuel in, it started again. When i changed my lpfp (but just the pump not the whole unit), we noticed that fuel was in the bigger chamber but didn't want to pump through to the lpfp side. At that time the car was also on a 1/4 tank, that is how i knew I needed to throw in petrol when the car died on a 1/4 fuel level. To sum it up I'm having issues at a 1/4 tank and the fuel doesn't seem to flow from the larger side of the fuel towards to lpfp side. I believe i might need to change my fuel tank as well. Any tips and recommendations would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
@@brandonlucas6677 must be a common issue on the F30 because I have the same exact problem even after replacing my lpfp. Did you figure out the problem?
Love the way the put moulding there for a access cover but didn’t put one, such bad design considering there is a component in there, the bmw e46 has access to both sides
Hi. Do you think the F series has the same system in the left ventricle? I have a problem with taking fuel from the left chamber. There are about 15-18 liters left. Levels show well. 35 left and 30 right with a full tank.
Haha this happened to me. My fuel gauge is wrong and I had thought when I put my stage 3 lpfp it’ll fix the problem but fuel reading would be wrong till I was on quarter tank then it would be more accurate. Just left it since I’m full E but now I know no matter what if I wanna fix it I have to replace the whole tank 🥲
Hey kern, can you do a vid explaining the wastegate and how to change it. I'm sitting around 95k and I think mine is rattling. Its not the exhaust valve, I have an AWE. Hoping it goes away after I change the fuel injectors. If it doesn't, the only thing I can think of is it being the wastegate 😢
Does anyone know what the OHMS should read for the Tanks? I currently show 991 ohms for left tank and 129 ohms for right tank. The left tank shows 0.0 l and the right tank shows 28.2 l.
hey , given that the tank has 2 sides and one is considerably quicker. How much does this affect E-mixes? Like if you were to fill up some ethanol and u already have fuel in the tank, wont it like just mix on the pump side? how would the mix be even around the tank especially if you dont fill up..say if you just did like quarter or half tank?
My fuel tank is leaking from the left side seal/cap of the tank where bmw had the previous fuel pump for the previous generation bmw. Either pre Lci f30 or just previous generations. I’m not sure but I know it’s leaking from there when I fill it up. I usually have to fill up only 11.5 gallons when I’m at the last quarter mark. Smh. The tank is $1000
Thanks for the video! I see where my fuel tank is leaking, at that seal you clipped off. BMW covers fuel tank replacement on my 2016 M235i to fix the leak. They recommend replacing fuel pump at same time as a preventative maintenance since the tank is off. $786 for the part only. No charge for labor. 53K miles. What do you think? Should I replace the fuel pump?
Hello! I am currently doing my own research trying to figure out what could possibly be wrong with mine .... the car is reading the fuel properly inside the car but every time the attendant puts the gas pump in, it immediately clicks off no matter how many times they try and set it back. This has happened at several different gas stations and each time the gas attendant has to hold the pump the entire time in order for it to fill. Could this possibly only be a sensor issue? I have not had any notifications from the car that there is an issue it is only when actually putting fuel into the car. Can anyone suggest any possible issue/solution?!! I really hope to not have to replace the entire fuel tank.
i am having the same issue, i just ended up not finding a fix i just put my gas into a vp can and then fill it, or i hold the gas pump thing half way and fill the gas takes 2x the time. it is quite annoying but no idea what’s wrong with it.

@@kern417 Just to make sure it’s code 193208 tank level plausibility?
That was one of them i believe. Took forever to come up. I noticed the fuel level issue probably 1 1/2 tanks before i actually got a code.

Very interesting that the level sensor was just sitting on the floor of the tank, must have come loose from hitting something
Wow. I never thought about this before, but the previous owner broke his drive shaft and said it hit the fuel tank. That probably caused it.
@@kern417 there’s definetly your answer yeah!

I would assume that hose on the driver side of the fuel tank where you can’t access is loose and above the fuel lvl

8:47 is that the BMW approved procedure for removal?
Am I being detained?
lol but for real you’re not able to use this again?
Did you have the video on mute?
Is there a filter in the fuel pump? What was the condition if there was? Thank you
Yes but it is built into the pump so you can't really inspect it
What is the part number for the fuel tank

Damn that sucks. Hitting a speed bump to fast probably popped it off 💀

how is the fuel pulled from the large side of the saddle tank to the side where the fuel pump pickup is located?
Can the fuel travel from the left to right and vise versa without the fuel line inside the tank? is it a open space between it?
There is an open space in the bridge

Is this the N51 motor? The N51 was the SULEV motor. The fuel tank have sensors inside. If it breaks....replace whole tank. N52 motor is better
