  • In this video, I replace the fuel sending unit, aka fuel pressure regulator, on my 2006 BMW E90. I had been trying to figure out why I had a strong gasoline odor from the rear driver's side wheel well, especially when the fuel pump came on. I tracked it down to small hairline cracks in the OEM fuel-sending unit, a common issue with these cars.
    Thanks for watching!

    Wow I’ve watched everyone’s video in this and yours is the best. Most had a second guy to help fish the lines to the other side. You did it yourself.

      Thank you! Just make sure your tank is empty and use some gloves. My arms itched for the rest of the day after this 😂

    Solid video. If the plastic on the top of the sending unit/pressure regulator/transfer pump is not cracked or leaking then it's not always the sending unit. Fuel can also come out of the DMTL fiber filter at the back passenger side. BMW has ZERO fix for this other than replacing the entire tank, sending unit, fuel pump, dmtl pump, and charcoal canister.
    Example, fuel can only be filled halfway or three quarters full and after refueling the car will have sputtering/stalling issues and sometimes stall completely. Then fuel will come out of the DMTL filter.
    If anyone has a confirmed diagnosis and fix, please tag me.

    Also, to remove the fuel lines push them in first and then squeeze the side and pull out.

    Great vid bro & really appreciate the info. Also is this the reason why it also leaks on the bottom of the car or would that be maybe because it has a small hole on mines that’s leaking? I also smell the gas in the interior so idk if by fixing this the bottom will stop leaking now?

      This is the most likely reason. I too had gas leaking through the bottom 🤙🏼

    I have this issue (328i 2008 bmw). Fuel gauge is stuck at 3/4 (it goes to 0 when I turn off the car) all the time and there is very bad inside smell of fuel. Could this be sending unit at the drivers side or maybe fuel pump at passenger side?

    • @OTTOWERKSPR
      @OTTOWERKSPR  7 месяцев назад

      It’s likely that the sending unit is cracked and that the fuel buoy is stuck.

      @@OTTOWERKSPR Ok, so the best option is to replace just sending unit (whole assembly), correct? That's the one on the drivers side, I'm guessing. Or maybe I try to fix that fuel buoy by moving it up and down or disassembling that unit that is connected to fuel buoy?

      Hey bro. Its been parked for about 3 months now with a broken alternator and I haven’t had the time to fix it. It has 165K miles. Its an easy fix but I lack the time at this moment. Ill make a video of it though. Stay tuned!
