Matt being a typical salty Brit while testing a great French car. Ignores most of the best parts about it, the best bits are "pretty good" at best, and makes up a bunch of problems that don't exist (like the door handle one or the brakes being too sensitive, which they aren't, or that the radar cruise control doesn't brake and would just crash into a car, which is definitely not the case, etc.). It's okay Matt, we know you hate the fact that the entire British car industry is owned by Germany, India and China, and the French is still domestic, so it's a way of coping to have to a totally negative stance when you review French cars and making up a bunch of issues that aren't actually there.
Remember when each car brand had its own unique design and style? If you covered the badges on this I genuinely would not be able to tell if it was a VW ID, a Peugeot or even an 'MG'. All crossover EVs look like they've been designed by the same team.
To be fair, the Renault Austral and Espace look quite distinctive, and then Renault took a wrong turn and we got the Rafale, Scenic, as well as the updated Clio and Captur. And don't forget after all the journalist tests are done, the car is put into sale as a used car. And someone will buy it because he will like the car. This behavior can cause future problems to the new owner. So why do the journalists behave like this? Just because they can? Because it isn't their own car? Because the car maker (or its subsidiary in the respective country) is supposed to do all the repairs caused by these "joking journalists" at its cost?

I still don't get that "rear windows should go all the way down" fetish. Why? How often you drive rear windows fully down open? I think it is even better, if rear windows do not open all the way down, it adds extra safety to rear smaller passengers, it prevents to lean too much out of window. Anyway, while driving, you 99,9% of time do not fully open rear windows, so I do not get it, why it is so important to especially every time mention that.

This reminds of my first car when I started driving in 1989, when my father got a 1972 Renault LeCar from a coworker and I had a blast driving that little, oil eating machine. Lasted me 3 years before I drove it into the ground and gave it away to a coworker who i lost contact with shortly after.
Note to Tesla who is charging the UK more than Europe, particularly the M3P which has been grossly overpriced in the U.K.- Renault are coming for your lunch, charging less in the U.K. than many European countries.
I think this will sell very well as the Peugeot 3008 EV is more expensive. Yes the petrol model is similar in price but with typical Stellantis style the EV model is £10,000 more than the petrol.
That wobbly feeling could be due to a structural problem of electric cars with flat batteries. Due to their flat shape, even if they sit low (and that gives the car a low center of gravity, which is good for handling), they are wide which is very prejudicial to one of the three moments of inertia. Unless the car compensates that with a very stiff suspension, which compromises ride comfort, it is going to have that wobbly feeling. Very few manufacturers have actually decided to go for narrower batteries with inverted T shape (using the space the transmission tunnel would leave) to improve that, but then you have a slightly higher center of gravity. Still, they tend to handle better and allow for better suspension solutions, such as the Polestar 2. Just a guess, I don't know the car nor have I driven it.
I don't get it. Wasn't the Scenic like a 7 seater van? Now you have the new megane, austral and now the scenic? They look the same in size, what's even the difference beside styling?
I briefly looked at getting this vehicle and had a really thorough test drive, but I eventually decided to go for the Peugeot e3008 instead, after a similar test drive. I think the Peugeot is just better designed and I think you get more tech for your money. The boot layout with the back seats down is a real pain, as you can't simply slide anything forward. This is especially problematic (as the review video shows) when loading heavy gear. The Renault doesn't have as good range as the rest of its class and doesn't match the Peugeot. This review claims the Renault to be a little quieter than the Peugeot, but I can't say I noticed that when I had a test drive. But, if this is your first electric vehicle, be aware that pedestrians will think it's quiet and almost get themselves killed as they cross the road in front of you, having not heard you "creeping" up on them. It happened to me twice, neither time being my fault, they just stepped out in front of me, but one time a young woman nearly got herself killed. If I hadn't been concentrating she would be dead now, as I had to quickly swerve and I missed her by centimetres, with her coat hitting the passenger door. It scared the hell out of me, so just putting it out there if you've not driven an electric car before. Also surprising was the immediate torque, you press the accelerator and it just takes off, it doesn't have to go through the gearbox, because there isn't one! Even an automatic car, no matter how fast it is, has to work through the gears before you get the full traction. For me, it felt like I had to learn a cometely different way of driving. One less traumatic experience was when I was sat at traffic lights and this boy racer turned up alongside me in a souped up Peugeot 208. He was looking across at me, smiling and revving his engine. The lights changed and the reasonably heavy e3008 just said goodbye. I had a good chuckle at that. I'm not too keen on the rear mirror doubling as a camera and the sensors DO get bunged up in bad weather although there is 360 degree camera in the Renault. The so called flush door handles are gimmicky and a pain to use as they slowly move into a useable position. But the Renault has a rear wiper, unlike the Peugeot, which is supposed to be self cleaning, but it ain't. You have to give the rear window a good wipe down every few trips. All of these issues however are personal choices, there's very little to choose between the two cars. I just prefer the Peugeot and what probably clinched it for me was the icockpit, which seems to wrap itself around you. It also looks stunning, with premium materials used. The wrap around curved 21 inch screen is awesome and seems to float above the driver shelf. The Peugeot seats are much more comfortable, especially on long runs and if that run includes a night drive, you'll be blown away by the ambient lighting in the cockpit. You won't be disappointed with the Renault, its a good car, but in my honest opinion, I think.you would be more impressed by the Peugeot which is a very good car, but do get the GT Spec rather than the Allure. I ordered mine in Obsession Blue, which looks absolutely stunning. Both cars are solidly built on decent platforms, so I guess it all comes down to what you're looking for in your new vehicle, a good range, plenty of tech, design etc. Both cars have similar sized boots around 545L, but I've already described the problem with extending the capacity when you put the rear seats down on the Renault. The Peugeot wins out on that one. Whatever you buy, providing you have a decent fast charger in your area, electric is the way forward. It's clean, cheap, quiet and fast given its almost instant torque. If you regularly use Motorways, there's already a decent infrastructure with new chargers being installed all the time. I recently did a trip North to Scotland on the M6 and on the way up I had to recharge. But the charger needed an app and an account which I had to set up afresh. Then on the way back South, I stopped at the same service station, thinking it would now be easy to recharge as I now had the app installed and linked to my debit card. But, no, on this side of the M6 they only had Tesla chargers, which also needed an app and account. But try as I may, it just wouldn't work on my Samsung S24 Ultra. So, I had no choice but to drive a further 25 miles with serious range anxiety to the next service station. This also had a different charging setup, but fortunately it was one I already use at my local supermarket. So, that's 3 different chargers for one journey and of course you need a charged mobile phone with the apps installed. Once it's all set up I have the confidence to do similar road trips, but I guess every new service station I use I will be anxious until I know what system they use. I looked online and in Playstore, to see if there were any apps that identified the type of charger being used at service stations, but whilst I could find plenty of apps telling me the type of charger being used at a service station, I couldn't find anything that told me which company operated the charger. I have a fast Podpoint charger at a local LIDL supermarket and I do find it very easy to use, however, I've yet to find a Podpoint charger at a Motorway service station. I'll be honest, I love electric cars, it's the future for sure, but it's not going to be a fun experience on a long road trip, until the Government speed up the installation of the recharger infrastructure. I don't mind having different types of charger or the company name operating them, but there needs to be continuity of charger installation, as I've now got 4 seperate charging station apps and accounts which is crazy. By the way, if anyone knows of an app that shows me which chargers and their operator, are installed at Motorway service stations, please let me know. Given the long range of my e3008, I'd love to plan long road trips to Europe, for example, a lovely drive over to Prague which takes 18 hrs actual driving time covering 900 plus miles. Or, there's a great road trip to Bulgaria which takes 30 hrs actual driving time, stopping twice at a B&B along the way. But, if I can't even have confidence in driving an electric car on a relatively short motorway trip of 250 miles over approximately 4 hrs, then how can I have confidence in driving across several countries? Maybe I have to wait a few years until the new charging technology comes online, that's charging elelements buried in the road surface. Currently being tested, the idea is you sign up for an account, the road sensors identify your vehicle as it passes over, links it to your account, then wirelessly charges your vehicle. I don't know exactly what tech the system uses, Bluetooth, microwave? But it certainly.sounds very cool tech. I wonder how many sensors are needed to provide a continuous connection until your battery is full? Perhaps by then, batteries will be so efficient you only have to charge them once a month over a 10 min charge 😊
Well if people buy them, car manufacturers will continue to make them. I imagine the people who buy them are the same people who prefer artificial grass to the real stuff
I can’t explain why in the past every manufacturer could fit 3 seats in the back and nowadays you only get 2 (that middle “seat” it’s not friendly at all). Even in the bigger cars… such a shame.

I don't understand what do you try to point out by hitting parts of the interior on such a way. Or throwing away parts of the trunk ... Like you are trying to hummiliate the car ...
It's quite a negative review for the 2024 car of the year. Wonder why you had such a different opinion the the judges?
It's rare nowadays that cars get smaller wheels as they get a new generation! The previous Scenic got 20" wheels as standard on all models. But that was very unnecessary for an MPV so.
12:25 you don’t need to put your finger behind the handle to pull it back out, on my Megane Etech you just press the door handle near the edge like a button and it’ll pop back out for you 👍🏼

Wow this is the first modern car from our years that i like....not the exterior but that interior is so wonderful exciting and comforabtle
Capture, Symbioz, Megane, Scenic, Rafale , they all look very similar and it is not just the usual corporate face, it is the whole SUV style that makes them a bit interchangable. They look quite good but is it necessary to copy the style across the whole range.
Unfortunately, all the listed models, with the exception of the Megane, very much resemble Peugeot. The design of Megane E-Tech, Austral and Espace is really recognizable and original, but it was quickly abandoned:(

1:40 Okay Matt, you got me that one.
5:10 - Renault knows that you shouldn't be driving with your elbow in that position, so they made it very uncomfortable to deter drivers from doing that.
It's a safety feature
He didn't even mention this car got the Car of the Year 2024 award 😂
The audio controls are perfect like that.
Way better than a Model 3 and Y for the price. Wish they sold in the US
Remember when each car brand had its own unique design and style? If you covered the badges on this I genuinely would not be able to tell if it was a VW ID, a Peugeot or even an 'MG'. All crossover EVs look like they've been designed by the same team.
Agreed!!
To be fair, the Renault Austral and Espace look quite distinctive, and then Renault took a wrong turn and we got the Rafale, Scenic, as well as the updated Clio and Captur. If I'm not mistaken, the former Peugeot designer is now responsible for the design of the latest Renault cars. Unfortunately, this is noticeable:(
@@ДимаТимощенко-х7дyeah Gilles Vidal was formerly Peugeot chief designer now he works at Renault. This Scenic looks a lot more like Peugeot 3008 than VW ID tho, the grill isn't too visible in this dark blue violet color but once it's visible it looks more like a Peugeot than a VW

I think the same
When are you test driving the Renault Austral?
And the Rafale ;-)
I have the second version and it have so many things that this don’t have. Three reclining and separate seats on the back, storage spaces under the floor on the front and on the back, drawers under the seats on the front and on the back, fully reclining seats for a bigger trunk, etc. Not so pretty but with different solutions for the age it has.

I still have Renault Scenic 2 2003 diesel ,its so versatile car with like 10 hidden drawers and tons off space inside ,now i mostly use it just 2 tow a caravan. But will this car live 21 years like my Scenic does(and i plan to keep it at least 5 years more ) ,not to mention that towing with with electric is impossible, maybe only around town .Ironically only problems i had with scenic was all kinds off electric stuff but engine and transmition all still run perfect even i tow 1.5 ton caravan with it..
Towing with EVs is not "impossible", it does eat up the range but in truth their are so many fast chargers around nowadays that range is not an issue anymore... The new Scenic can tow 1100kgs with brakes
@@arthemis1039 I saw range test with Cybertruck which has more then 100 kwh battery towing caravan and it was only 85 miles. To charge it you need to disconnect caravan every time so in reality towing is not possible.
Also my scenic can tow 1600 kg even is 21 years old
I've driven about 200 miles in the electric Scenic and cant say that I have ever had an issue with the braking or steering
It's a strategy of filling the blanks: as a bad thing if you cannot find one more bad thing, as a good thing if you cannot find one more good thing. Same as his rear seat belt guide complaints, repetitively.
Correction with the door handle. You can press it to make it pop up 12:20 at least it works like this for the megane e-tech
i currently own the megane etech EV and noticed that when you put your thumb over the multi-sense button it lights up and when you remove your thumb the light turns off. A neat little function if i do say so myself.

I think this will sell very well as the Peugeot 3008 EV is more expensive. Yes the petrol model is similar in price but with typical Stellantis style the EV model is £10,000 more than the petrol.
Mat has got a different treatment for trunk cover! 😂😂
8:55 journalism at it’s finest
Just a guess, I don't know the car nor have I driven it.
nah youtube channel Outof spec showed xiaomi su7 that has very nice and smooth stopping curve. Just european and american car industry is far behind.
It’s beautiful and very modern looking.
It's really annoying when you deliberately want to destroy a press car! Why put the charging cable in the front and pressing down on the bonnet?
Looks like there's palpable contempt against this car or this brand. Why?
