    What do you think of the range? Is this car good value for the £40k. Or would you rather have a Tesla? Post your thoughts below.

      I’m ready to make the leap to an EV and this an Enyaq and a model Y are on my shortlist. However, convincing my wife will be a different matter and I think the Model Y would be a step too far for her. Value for money, the Scenic appears best tbh.

      I'd have the Renault as it's better looking, better built and better infotainment screens / physical buttons. I'm currently looking at one of these to replace the Volvo XC40 Recharge. The extra range on the Renault will be a blessing!
      I've never used a Tesla supercharger with a non Tesla. What was the process and did you have to have an adapter?

      Forums and FB groups full of new owners not happy with the range in current cold spell. A few flaws with sinking front seats and charging issues which Renault are addressing via a new update, i would still have it against a Tesla though any day but my preference would be the Megane as a little more efficient and more of a sleek ride than the higher bulky SUV feeling of the Scenic but if you have kids and want more space in the back and a few extra miles then Scenic not the worst choice to go for.

    I’ve just got some figures from Gridserve after talking to them this morning, for a 2 year lease from March next year.
    Got to decide whether to have Techno in the colour I want, or Alpine esprit in a standard colour. Both the same price (well actually Alpine is £2.50 more per month)
    Really can’t decide which way to go.

    • @wakeywarrior
      @wakeywarrior  2 месяца назад +1

      For £2.50 I’d maybe go Alpine but not sure because of reduced range.
      I saw yesterday you could get Techno long range for £400 a month, 3 down (£1200) 10,000 a year miles yesterday- great deal it’s dropped £30 a month. Make sure you are shopping around.

      @ Gridserve are offering me £304.50 and £307 over with 12 months upfront and 5k a year.
      Because I’m retired I only average 4k anyway. Also using a bit of man maths, selling my current Zoe will cover that upfront plus about a year of payments. (At least that’s how I’m going to justify it to the missus) After 2yrs if I still like it, I’ll probably look out for a used one, I suspect there’ll be plenty of ex lease ones on the market at that point, as l think it’ll be hugely popular because of its range.

    So you have to drive at 60 to get a decent range? A 280 mile journey at 70 takes 4 hours, at 60 4hr40 plus you have to hang around for an hour waiting to charge? A 4 hour journey in a fossil burner suddenly adds almost 50% to the journey time.
    Seems like we're going back to horse and carriage times for travelling across the UK. It's not progress.
    That said, I have to replace my company car in 4 months time and the Scenic is at the top of my list.

      @@WillScott73 Hi, yes I didn’t have to charge en route it was because I was stopping anyway. I didn’t charge coming back (well just whilst I had breakfast that morning topping up the battery).
      This is an unusual route in that there’s virtually no routes where you could travel this distance in a day without encountering lots of slow traffic. In fact it will be rare for anyone to do that distance and average 60mph even if they go 80 when they can I suspect.
      I’m doing another test tomorrow, down to Milton Keynes and back. In my Tesla I might ‘just’ have made it in perfect conditions but usually had to charge briefly. This will be more typical of driving in the U.K.- traffic cameras average speed on the M1, jams etc. I am going to set it to 65 and see how we go. Should do it, 280 miles there and back. Stay tuned.
      Also you would never normally charge to 100%. You normally would charge to 80% max, and that last 20% takes a long time. So you would not normally stop so long to charge. In normal circumstances I’d likely have charged only for the time needed to eat my lunch, then set off again.
      You also save a lot of time generally with an EV never going to a petrol station at home. The ‘I’ll have to go out and get some petrol’ runs are not missed. I’ve had an EV for 6 years and much prefer it, as most (87%) would not go back to ICE.

    I don’t think it’s fair to say Tesla needs to change the chargers to suit other car models. Maybe other manufacturers should put the charge port in the right place. I know you’re trying to convince yourself that the Renault can compete with the efficiency of a Tesla driving at proper motorway speeds but it can’t.

    • @wakeywarrior
      @wakeywarrior  2 месяца назад +1

      Not really cars have the ports all over, and Tesla has opened up chargers to these cars, but have bump stops way off the chargers, and very short leads (which as a 6 year Tesla owner, new S and new 3 were often verging on too short even for Tesla).
      I’m not trying to convince myself of anything, I’m doing tests like I did in my 3. The car won’t be as efficient as a 3, for obvious reasons, there’s not that much difference with a Y I don’t think. The huge battery is fantastic though because it’s the same to buy as a Model 3 RWD and I can get about 50 -75 more miles in the same conditions in a bigger more practical car. That really matters to me because I am not stopping to charge nearly as much, less range anxiety and much cheaper. Charging on the go is expensive, even on Tesla chargers.
      Tesla’s are excellent cars no doubt, I’m not knocking them, I am a big fan and advocate. However, the lineup is aging and the value isn’t fantastic.
      Thanks for watching, full review coming soon where I’ll go into some detail about how it compares in my view to Tesla. I am genuinely very impressed with the Scenic but there are areas of improvement that could be easily made. I used to be quite blinkered, Tesla was the only decent EV. Up until a year ago I would not have bought a non Tesla. But now they have serious competition.
