    FWD is better for regen than RWD. Weight transfer improves traction on regening wheels. I'd say that the same principles apply as for fossils - RWDs suit for "aspiring" drivers and FWDs for people who don't care or want to think about driving. Behaviour is just more predictable and "worst case" failure requires generally less skill to manage with FWD (understeer vs. oversteer, not taking ESP into account).

    A really interesting statistic to add to your spreadsheet would be the number of kWh each vehicle used to complete the 1000 km (plus approx cost). So you could compare (for example) the RWD Tesla Model 3 with the Scenic. I realise you can calculate a figure, but by adding a simple formula to your spreadsheet or indeed changing the Wh/km heading) we could see a helpful statistic. With thanks.

    I used to own a petrol Renault Scenic year ago. Mechanically it was OK and it was spacious but most things electric on the car failed, sometimes multiple times. An electric window would fail every 6 months and cost about £200 to be fixed at the dealers. The drainage from the windscreen would always block and redirect the water into an area where the electric fan lived making it sound like a boat propellor. The dashboard also failed. The idea of buying a purely electric Renault would give me the shivers.

But it's a fact that the design also makes it a bit thirsty on the motorway. On the other hand in the city or on roads with 90 km/h speed limit it is still very efficient. I don't think so, the scenic has a NMC battery it should definitely be able to charge way faster. Other cars with such a huge NMC battery can easily charge at 200 kW. Vut I think it is on purpose bc slower charging is better for the battery and I think Renault wants to make the batteries last as long as possible. Especially as NMC batteries have a shorter life anyways with a lot less charging cycles until they reach 80% or 75% remaining capacity than a LFP battery

    • @Cosmycal
      @Cosmycal 14 дней назад

      @flo_h_96 I wonder if that's necessary though, since Ariya charges faster with less peak speed, has a bigger buffer and even then, to cycle that NMC battery enough to get to 70% usable due to degradation you'll have to reach like 20 years of normal use of the car, at that point the rest of the car is as old as the battery, not a problem really.

    I don't understand what's weird on French cars. I tend to consider German cars as being badly conceived, so those that get used to them don't understand that it can be done differently.
    And about not showing the range when your batterie is getting empty, Renault has always done that since the first computers got into their cars back in the beginning of the 80's. So as soon as you got under 5L of fuel, no more range to force you to refuel.

    Another excellent video Bjorn. But I think the consumption is one of the worst I've ever seen. 28 kw / 100 km. That is double the Model Y/3. Owners would be paying twice as much for energy and twice as long charging. That should have been mentioned in the video for prospective buyers.

    • @djnosafety

      The MY RWD and LR consume respectively 236wh/km and 254wh/km in the same test. Tesla’s consumption is better, but in comparison the Scenic is doing pretty well. Some Dutch Scenic drivers are reporting anything between 170wh and 220wh per km.

    • @SwissSchweiz
      @SwissSchweiz 15 дней назад +1

      @@djnosafety That's impossible. I've owned 3 Tesla's over 6 years, I have 2 Tesla's right now, a 2023 MYP and a 2021 M3SR+ LFP. Collectively I've driven 120k kms. In slow driving I average 11-13 kwh / 100 km. I just did 2 x 850 kms driving at 120 kph on average with 4 SC charges and I averaged 14 kwh / 100 km. I did a 500 km trip from Switzerland to Germany on the Autobahn driving 150-190 kph and still the car had a consumption of just 16 kwh / 100 km. Speed is the #1 factor that consumes energy. So 28 kwh / 100 km is horrible.

      @@SwissSchweiz I’m just referring to Bjørn’s spreadsheet at the end. So, comparing apples to apples, and using the data from that spreadsheet, the Scenic’s consumption is not that bad in comparison. Just take a look at the other competitors in that spreadsheet as well.

      @@arda_ Firstly, I said that it was a road trip, I wasn't doing full autobahn speeds all the time. It was a 600 km trip, 2/3rds through Germany, keep in mind that there is a lot of construction on the autobahns right now, so it includes a lot of slow downs and then I drove part way through Austria and Switzerland. On that trip, yes I absolutely did around 16 kwh / 100 kms. I do a lot of road trips in my M3SR+LFP, and on real world road trips above 200 km's, I always get 10-16 kwh consumption. Even my MYP on Swiss 120 kph highways I'm getting 15-18 kwh consumption. I've even rented other Tesla's in USA and Canada and have never seen consumption on any Tesla above 20 kwh. Perhaps on a very very cold highway drive it can happen, but I've never seen it after 6 years and 3 Tesla's.
