RUclips algo randomly brought me here as I am about to get retrenched but have a side hustle that I can go full time I into. (Guess the algo knows my situation better than me 😅) Great quality content and watching your videos gave me the courage to take the next leap in life! 🎉
Hope that sg gov and ecda will watch this video. Gov should subsidize more pay for good qualified local teachers and not just simply keep hiring foreigners to do the job of educating our young ones.
@thecorporateswitch i too a 6months gap break into other industry (but cause of the low paying salary) i came back tis year.. But now... I really dkk if i sld continue, 😪😪 its just everything changes, parents nowadays also 😪😪
My career switch was in the reverse. I was at the peak of my sales career in an MNC company, earning very good income higher than my peers. Then after 7 years, I decided to leave for early childhood education career, earning only 10% of my previous pay and forging all the perks I had. Everybody thought I was mad, but I did not regret my career switch. I worked full time as a kindergarten teacher, while taking part time early childhood courses, and at the same time worked as a part time insurance agent to support my family. Thank God I was able to juggle all the 3 tasks well and still have time for my family. So I can only say that it all depends on what each person wants in life and their career, and also how they plan to move up the career ladder of their chosen industry. Nothing comes without effort and passion. Of course, the salary for early childhood educators could have been higher to attract more passionate and qualified teachers. (Note: during my era, my pay as a kindergarten teacher was than $1k.)
I don't understand why healthcare and teaching, 2 of the most important jobs in Singapore pays so low. My wife is a therapist aide with 6 years experience dealing with elderly care and she only gets job offers at $1800p.m. Ridiculous!
@thecorporateswitch i used to tease her that even security guard gets paid more than her under tge tripartiate pay agreement but healthcare workers are miraculously not covered under this agreement
Not only is the pay low, the education entry requirements are set high for early childhood educators by ECDA, which makes it harder for people to join the industry.
y'all so pretty, wow. But anyway I can empathise with how she must have felt, having to leave a dream career which she loves and has invested so much in, because it doesnt pay well enough... $4000+ after 10 years is not reasonable in Singapore.
That’s so kind of you! Thanks for watching ☺️ Indeed, as much as passion is important, realistically, the pay is important as well. I hope you also found joy in your career change and is doing well now (I’m presuming you also went through smth similar)!
Im 39 this year, why everyone seems to talk about their burnout in their field? In all field including real estate agent, banking, kindergarten teacher, moe teacher…kanasai so what the elderly said about strawberry generations is really true sia

Must have been tough juggling all 3 but thank you for doing heart work as a teacher!

Sadly :( Doing heart work doesn’t mean that she should be lowballed for job offers 😢

Yeah alot of jobs are low paid even accountants etc. I 15yrs, not yet 4k. That is why ppl change career as it is not making enough money to meet ends.
