Can you share some tips on how you do the class management please? 🙏 when there are students with certain behavioural issues and are disturbing the whole class, how do you deal with them?
Just to preface, my previous school was a girls school & a primary school so the dynamics may be different! But for me, presuming you also teach pri school, I think what worked best for me out of everything is to really try to get to talk to these particular kids 1:1, even if it’s just a chat while walking along the corridor or talking to them during recess/ 5min after class, trying to know them and their interests, and what is actually affecting them that makes them act out (e.g usually there’s a reason behind.. like their parents fighting the previous day or a conflict w their friend etc); basically forming a connection with them. & if I scold them during class, I make sure to talk to them after class/after we have both calmed down to understand what caused them to act out and get them to understand why their behaviour was wrong. Having a more personal connection with them really helps for the more difficult students imo, coz they understand I still love them despite the scolding and helps appeal to their conscience when they are misbehaving haha. I think i also make sure to start off the year as a strict (but not fierce) teacher, and stick by the rules I set. Also if there are multiple students who are being noisy, make sure to separate them to different areas of the class and sit them beside a more motivated student who can help them coz at that age, environment really matters. This was what worked for me, hope it helps!
What was the Entrance Proficiency Test like? Any tips for that?
its nice to know theres teachers who have youtube channels to!🥹 my teacher is strict i always hear *minus 10 minutes off your recess* everyday -from singapore 🇸🇬
Nice and good tips❤
I wish i could understand what are they saying without subtitle.
Oof, point taken. Will work on enunciation
Yeah alot of jobs are low paid even accountants etc. I 15yrs, not yet 4k. That is why ppl change career as it is not making enough money to meet ends.
My career switch was in the reverse. I was at the peak of my sales career in an MNC company, earning very good income higher than my peers. Then after 7 years, I decided to leave for early childhood education career, earning only 10% of my previous pay and forging all the perks I had. Everybody thought I was mad, but I did not regret my career switch. I worked full time as a kindergarten teacher, while taking part time early childhood courses, and at the same time worked as a part time insurance agent to support my family. Thank God I was able to juggle all the 3 tasks well and still have time for my family. So I can only say that it all depends on what each person wants in life and their career, and also how they plan to move up the career ladder of their chosen industry. Nothing comes without effort and passion. Of course, the salary for early childhood educators could have been higher to attract more passionate and qualified teachers. (Note: during my era, my pay as a kindergarten teacher was than $1k.)
Must have been tough juggling all 3 but thank you for doing heart work as a teacher!
Hope that sg gov and ecda will watch this video. Gov should subsidize more pay for good qualified local teachers and not just simply keep hiring foreigners to do the job of educating our young ones.
I don't understand why healthcare and teaching, 2 of the most important jobs in Singapore pays so low. My wife is a therapist aide with 6 years experience dealing with elderly care and she only gets job offers at $1800p.m. Ridiculous!
Sadly :( Doing heart work doesn’t mean that she should be lowballed for job offers 😢
@thecorporateswitch i used to tease her that even security guard gets paid more than her under tge tripartiate pay agreement but healthcare workers are miraculously not covered under this agreement
Not only is the pay low, the education entry requirements are set high for early childhood educators by ECDA, which makes it harder for people to join the industry.
Thank you for sharing! I am considering on going into the teaching field and am looking at people's experiences to try and get a feel of it. If you don't mind sharing, what was the main reason (or top few reasons if you can't pinpoint one,) that made you decide to leave the teaching field? Was it a pull factor towards tech, or a push factor away from teaching?
Hi, thanks for watching! Imo, I think 2 main reasons: 1) I remember one day arguing intensely amongst the teachers over whether we should award one mark to a kid in a worksheet (because it didnt really follow the ‘right’ answer) and I rmbr just thinking.. what is the point of doing so? Why are we arguing over one mark that will literally have no impact on the child in the long run. Are we still that obsessed over marks/following rubrics despite everything we try to do to build creativity and new life skills etc. & then it also cumulated to feel like nothing much has really changed in our syllabus. 2) The amount of physical and mental energy I was putting in and the increasing amount of hats that teachers have to wear… it was really exhausting. If I could solely focus on teaching, that’d perhaps be fine but in reality, I was operating as an entire organisation (e.g teachers have to teach AND plan school events for teachers and students, or be in charge of creating social media content for the school etc) I really didn’t understand why teachers have to do all this when even in a company, you have different people doing all these tasks. Realistically, I also felt like I was getting one pay despite for all these different jobs (scopes) I think the above was a push away from teaching The pull towards tech was more that I did feel that ultimately, the red tape and job requirements itself is very routine, and my personality requires a job that had more freedom!
But of course, your experience/others might differ based on what you value in life. I think if you can, the best way might be to actually take up relief/contract teaching for a short while if you can !
@@thecorporateswitch Thank you so much for your reply and insight!! That was very helpful ~
yall getting 4k from early childhood?? bro mines in the low 2ks after cpf after 5 years lol
Im 39 this year, why everyone seems to talk about their burnout in their field? In all field including real estate agent, banking, kindergarten teacher, moe teacher…kanasai so what the elderly said about strawberry generations is really true sia
Yess, totally agree w her, im in the early childhood field too... Its been 4yrs 🤔 in this field, and now im really tired, yes i love kids, but...
It’s really not easy at all 🥲 Thank you for all that you do! 👏
@thecorporateswitch i too a 6months gap break into other industry (but cause of the low paying salary) i came back tis year.. But now... I really dkk if i sld continue, 😪😪 its just everything changes, parents nowadays also 😪😪
RUclips algo randomly brought me here as I am about to get retrenched but have a side hustle that I can go full time I into. (Guess the algo knows my situation better than me 😅) Great quality content and watching your videos gave me the courage to take the next leap in life! 🎉
Thanks for watching! Appreciate the kind words ☺️ I’m glad you have a side hustle you can go full time into, all the best for your new chapter ahead!
y'all so pretty, wow. But anyway I can empathise with how she must have felt, having to leave a dream career which she loves and has invested so much in, because it doesnt pay well enough... $4000+ after 10 years is not reasonable in Singapore.
That’s so kind of you! Thanks for watching ☺️ Indeed, as much as passion is important, realistically, the pay is important as well. I hope you also found joy in your career change and is doing well now (I’m presuming you also went through smth similar)!
What subject did you teach in public school in Singapore and is it primary or secondary school?
I taught primary school and I taught English and Science :)
@ do you have information on Special Education Needs with MOE? The website detail is not in depth
Sorry not really. But I know there are either allied educators (www.moe.gov.sg/careers/non-teaching-careers/allied-educators) or SPED teachers (www.moe.gov.sg/careers/become-teachers/sped-teacher) with MOE
thank you so much for your sharing! I have left the service too and now am in the phase of figuring out what's next and I totally relate to the feeling of having doubts and fears of what's next! kudos to you for taking that step!
Thank you so much for watching! ☺️ All the best for your journey, kudos to you too for taking the step to make the switch! Just rmbr, our soft skills as a teacher is something that’s really important in the corporate world (even though it may not seem so at first on a resume) so just rmbr not to discount yourself and all the skills that you have ☺️

Hi, how are you. I need some advice from you. My application for Moe PGDE is unsuccessful after my fail in MTL EPT. I wish to apply again . I applied onFeb 2024. Last week only the results came negative. So can I apply again ? Also I mailed Moe for reappearing the test. Will that be possible to reappear for the test ?will they consider? If u have any answers pls let me know. Thanks
You can apply again for PGDE every 6 months I believe. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to advise you if they will reconsider, you may wish to wait for the reply from MOE directly.

Is it possible to cover my accommodation cost and daily expenses with the funding provided by MoE?
Amazing! Thanks for summarizing the takeaways and props for doing a live stream! That's pretty scary to do hahaha
Thank you very much for watching! 😊 I'm glad it turned out more fun than I expected fr, give it a try when you're bored haha
@@thecorporateswitch I will let you know if I ever build up that courage haha
Should i undergo Teaching stint for 1 year before 16 months PGDE program? Will MoE fund the Teaching stint period too? So basically it is 5 years 4 months. 1 year Teaching stint+1 year 4 months PGDE program+ 3 years bond. Am i correct, mam?
Yes correct. And to get the teaching stint, you will need to pass the interview; and if you do, yes it’s funded. Will have a few assessments during the teaching stint and if you pass that then you’ll officially enrol into PGDE!
Hope you'll reply for my queries. 1.Isn't the bond period 3 years now? 2.I have completed my bachelors in information technology in infia and i don't have any work experience, am i eligible to apply? 3.Am i eligible to apply for this program in my final year?
1) bond period is 3 years after you finish NIE 2 and 3) wrt eligibility, you have to apply with MOE directly and they’ll advise if you’re eligible if you end up getting an interview. But PGDE is usually for post-undergrad.
Is it possible for a foreign doctor to work in Singapore?
Hi, yes it’s possible! Can refer to www.healthprofessionals.gov.sg/sab/specialist-accreditation/foreign-trained-doctors

Glad you enjoyed it!
Were you required to do an entrance proficiency test?
Nope I didn’t have to!
Hi can I check if you will need to submit your CPF contribution while they are processing your offer?
Hi, yes I checked my old emails and I did need to submit my CPF contribution!
