Larry Graham was the Bass player for the 70’s band Sly and the Family Stone. After he left he had a solo career with his own band called “ Graham Central Station” which was a successful band, check out some of their hits.
40 years later this song is still so good. Larry Graham's powerful and smooth voice is timeless. Plus, the composition of this banger is epic. The flute, drums, and piano were on point. Outstanding.
People forget his voice, because he's known as the Godfather of how the bass guitar is played today. He started the slap bass technique with Sly and the family stone
Larry Graham is singing this great song so beautifully. I can't stand it. If you've ever been in love, this is the song that personifies that feeling.
Another under-appreciated artist. He was an original member of "Sly & The Family Stone". He was the bass player.
"That's within my pocket" 😂😂😂 So cute. I have always loved this song. A true love song. This came out in 1980.
I met my wife at age 14.5
She was 16
We’ve been married 50 years -
This is our song
I sang this song to my wife as she walked down the aisle at our wedding. Love it!
Larry was always in a groove back in the day...An awesome voice...He has some really nice songs.
This is one of the most beautiful songs. His voice is so rich and beautiful. I read an interview by him that this song is just as much about falling in love as well as his discovering the faith he started practicing around the time he wrote this song. That he truly fell in love with his God. I was in high school when this song came out, around 1980. It’s just as fresh now as it was then.
BJ gonna be shocked with Larry's bass slapping! Uncle Charlie!
He lead the group Graham Central Station and efire that he played with Sly and the Family Stone. And yes, this song was played at many weddings, back in the day.
Thank You. I grew up listening to this as a young boy around the house. Brings back memories. Like BJ said they dont make it like this anymore. Thanks Guys for appreciating the ole tunes.
Larry Graham was part of Sly and the family stone
Larry Graham is the voice one hears in the Sly and the Family Stone 1968 classic, dance to the music, when he sings " I'm gonna add some bottom, so that the dancers just won't hide". He revolutionised bass playing by introducing the slapping technique on the Sly and the Family Stone classic, Thankufallentinmebmiceselfagin. He has another classic song called Just be my lady which you guys should check out.
He had a follow up or released just after One In A Million, a song called WHEN WE GET MARRIED! It was just as beautiful to me.
One of the best voices ever. Love this song. ❤ Gives me chills every time.
I say a BIG WHOA. I Have a large appeal for this man, his music and the person who he became. I got to meet him in 1978. It was intimidating!!! but he was truly " Every day people ". Thanks guys.
My husband and I loved this song so much that we danced to it as the first song at our wedding.
This deserves 💯 points out of 10‼
Ahhh.... the voice. Larry Graham had a voice that cut like a knife. Great bassist, too.
I love Asia's emotional reaction to Larry's song and voice. I was so crazy for this song when it came out and it was on the radio ALL the time! Such an amazing voice! Shout out to Uncle Charles. LOL
Larry Graham's voice is unique for sure, you always knew it was him when a song that he sang came on the radio. Check out "Love Covers a Multitude of Sins" it was a really popular song played on contemporary Gospel radio stations in the mid to late 70's.
This puts me back on Bourbon Street in the eighties. A woman in a gift shop was singing this as she shopped. I knew the song. And that’s what it reminds me of whenever I heard it.
Beautiful songs that hit the heart positively wonderful😊
There was a time when this song was out, whatever guy you were dating would try to serenade you with this song. 😃 😀
One of my fav songs ever . Greta reaction ,love y’all and blessings 🤗🙏❤️
Released in the early 80s
Larry is also a fantastic bass player (Sly and the Family Stone)
Dance to the Music
Hot Fun in the Summertime
etc
As mentioned, he played with Sly and the Family Stone, his own Graham Central Station (Release Yourself!), and played and sang on tour with Prince.
❤ love it. I forgot about this song. That's the great thing about your channel. I get to be reminded of these songs from the past.
Wow! You are really going for the deep cuts! I haven’t heard this song in 20 yrs. The memories it brings, back! You should do If Ever I’m In Your Arms Again..
Supposedly, Larry Graham is Drakes uncle. He played in the band, "Sly and The Family Stone" in the early 70's.
It’s not supposedly it’s fact, google Drake dad basically twins 😂
Larry was my favorite bass player but only gave us a glimpse of his vocal range while we sang along to him with Sly and Graham Central Station... until this song came out and then the whole world found out about him
Yes, it was the most played song at weddings we went to. Larry is part of the most diverse and inspirational soul/funk band ever! As many stated below, Larry is among the GOAT bass players with his "slap" style.
I think you nailed it with the sincerity on display here. He could have done more singing with The Family Stone, and I would have been OK with that, but it's hard to argue with most of how they did what they did with Sly. This is a truly romantic gem.
He reminds me of the late great Lou Rawls...beautiful baritone voice!
Miss those days from the past when people knew what it meant to love and sing about it..
Such a good song! Asia, BJ said he thought he had some of those low notes in his pocket! So dang cute! I love watching you two.
This was the first song my boyfriend and I danced to. We dated for 13 years and got married. I lost him to Cancer in 2012. Always makes me relive our past when I hear it.😊😂
I have loved this song since it came out, and still do to this day!!
Try checking out “When We Get Married”…and wait til the very end…watch him hit that high note 👍🏽
Glad to see this song getting it's due! Almost like it has been forgotten, which is so sad. Thanks for bringing it up!
This was played a lot back in the day. Asia right - slow dance song. I always sing along with this cause, as BJ said, his range is in my pocket (lol, get down to your appendix). Such a smooth depth to his voice. Nice! Graham Central Station and Sly and the Family Stone work was good, too (as Bassblvd commented below). Nice reaction!
Back in the day...I wore this song out!
It's an old schoolmajor hit, and a classic romantic love song by the uniquely smooth vocalist, incomparable bass player, Larry graham 🥰
Check out the group he led before going solo - Graham Central Station - good introduction song is "The Jam." His baseball-playing will blow your mind as much as his beautiful voice did. 🔥😉
How smooth was this 🧈✌️p.s. I'm waiting for pt. 2 of it!
Wow! This is a love story! Great song of a soulful love song!
Ohhh my goodness!! 🥹 just beautiful!😍 💯❤️💯❤️💯
😂 Lol 4:25 Does EVERYBODY have an Uncle Charles who was a character? 🙋🏾♀️ My Uncle Charles was a DJ in the 70's, he introduced me to most of the music I love.
Love it
Graham Central Station ! Was Larry Graham's group and he also play at the beginning of his career with Sly and the Family Stone . And also play for other music artist as bass player .
If you haven't already; check out Larry's "When we get married".
I bought this song when it first came out on a 45” record. Beautiful sexy singing voice
Love this song nice reaction ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
That voice, huh? I was 11 years old when this song came out and I can't even explain what it did to my adolescent hormones. I was already boy crazy, and this just took it to another level 😂😂😂
Asia & BJ, You’d like "Feel The Need" and "Can You Handle It?" from Graham Central Station, a band he fronted.
Today’s song is his one solo hit song on the Billboard Hot 100 and the R&B charts. He had several more hits on the R&B chart
Still one of my favorite songs. Soooo good!!
Great "slap" bass player and singer too! Great reaction as well! 🙃
This was a Slow Jam back in the late 70s!!
With this Larry threw a bit of a “curveball” because so many people knew & remembered him from Graham Central Station and with Sly. But I think with this he went back to his Gospel roots a little bit. Great slow jam🎼
Larry Graham was the bass player for Sly and the family Stone and Graham Central station so he was also famous for his funky bass playing style and he also influenced Louis Johnson of the Brothers Johnson with his style of bass guitar funk. You have a long way to go when it comes to Larry Graham
HOF bass player with a voice of gold!!!
Larry Graham had a few other hits when he was in a band named Graham Central Station.
😂Asia is falling for Larry's deep voice
Larry Graham, Graham Central Station True Legend. He's also the rapper Drakes Uncle 😉
I was 13 when this came out! 1980
Timeless!
The C.O.W.S. podcast got me into this record for other reasons but a classic record.
❤❤❤❤ this song forever
I still have this vinyl apbum
so smooth!
This was a big wedding first dance song!
Thats Sly,s cousin. He played bass in Sly And the Family Stone
Wonderful song!
love this song
Last song of the night club song!
Asia, if you want to be swooned some more by Larry Graham listen to his song Just Be My Lady. BJ, if you learn to sing it you'll never sleep on the couch again.🙂
Please do Graham Central Station...you'll see Larry Graham in different light!!!!
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
The best Bass Player of funk, This Brother can sing in 5 Octaves!
Larry Graham is Drake's uncle and this song was way before drake was born and became a rapper
He’s Drake uncle … yeah that Drake 🤫

Check out "Graham Central Station".
This song dropped in 1980 if I'm not mistaken
Did y’all know he’s drake (Aubrey graham) uncle. They should do a multi generation tour with drake’s dad( Dennis) Larry graham bruh
