      @@SinSacrifice Not yet! If you want the bonus content, you have two options:
      #1 - The Gameboy Advance version, which is great except for the music quality being absolutely horrendous.
      #2 - The old Steam version, which you can still buy directly from Square Enix's website. I personally don't like the graphics in this version, and combat is a bit clunkier than in other versions, but otherwise it's a great way to play the game.

    I noticed a flaw with this version so far: During the final battle, the Dancing Mad songs that play are not interwoven together like in the original game. In this version, as soon as you finish a stage in the battle, the song gets cut in the middle of where it was playing and the next one takes over, removing the smooth transition between them.

    This was my favorite game when it came out in 1994 (still own the cartridge), and it has changed places over the years with Chrono Trigger since CT's release in 1995. It has such a large story with a wide cast of unique characters, and Kefka's big turn is such a game changer, both in this game and for future games to come.

    • @UncleMarty
      @UncleMarty 2 года назад +3

      Both are two of the most amazing 8bit RPGs ever. Gotta say though that Chronotrigger just wins for me too. The whole time travel story was adventurous even by today's standards. I got the remake on my phone but it's just not the same as sitting on the sofa with a buddy and taking turns :/
      Tempted to but the FF 6 remake on my PC though ;)

    • @makasete30
      @makasete30 2 года назад +7

      I love both but for me FFVI is just that little bit better. Better villain with Kefka, deeper set of characters which are surprisingly fleshed out, and although both soundtracks are excellent FFVI just has a wider selection of better tunes.
      Even today, it’s story of the world of seeing the world ruin still holds up. I think the only thing CT does better is avoiding the random battles which I think makes it more accessible to more people.
      Both CT and FVI deserve either HD2D remakes or a complete (3D) version like the VII remake.

      These are the same two games all JRPG nerds of a certain age vacillate over. I do think FF6 wins out in drama. Even though most of the Chrono Trigger characters had significant tragedy in their lives (barring maybe Ayla and Crono) it was handled in a simpler, less nuanced way. If I was on my death bed and only had enough hours left to play one of them again, it would probably be Chrono Trigger, but FF6 did an awful lot that Chrono Trigger didn’t.

    Given how some of the other Pixel Remasters are at their 1.0.3, 1.0.5 Version gives me a bit of hope SQEnix will turn around and fix some of these annoying bugs. On an ideal world they add alternative fonts and the additional content, but yeah, the most they can (and probably will) do right now is fixing bugs and releasing the patches in the coming weeks.

    In all honesty, I was rather excited when I learned of the Pixel Remasters, but then I found out that they were not going to have the post-SNES/NES content, which kinda left me disappointed. It meant that for PR FF6, I wasn't going to get the Gigantuar, Leviathan, and Diabolos, nor was I going to get the Dragons' Den and Soul Shrine, which would've been really nice additions. I'm liking this quite a lot actually. The only ways it's not 'definitive' is that the color scheme is a bit less interesting than the original, and it's missing the extra dungeons. Pretty much everything else is better in this version than any of the others. The music, battle stage backgrounds, battle effects and diagonal movement, are all great additions that make it far more playable in 2022.

    • @armorvil
      @armorvil 2 года назад +2

      I have the same conclusion : it's not definitive, but my reasons are different (I don't really care about the extra dungeon, I thought it sucked). My reason is that it's a buggy mess and they missed the mark on a few things (some music tracks are inferior to the originals, walking animation has only 2 frames when the original had 3, scrolling is choppy, no x2 or x3 speed function, no end game options like a hard mode or new game +, and I'm probably forgetting more).

    • @alanlee67

      Although there are patches that alleviate this to some extent...the original had the most elegant font and ui ever. Patches can help this version but the menu layout was still much better in the Famicom version. Also, defending and row swap can be tougher to access in the remaster as you have to navigate to second menu instead of just pressing left or right...walking and running animations feel chopper. This remaster has a lot of pros and cons but ultimately, the Famicom original is superior and that's a shame because that released on 30 year old hardware.

    Regarding enemies getting multiple turns in battle compared to your own: it's possible this is because you set the battle speed to fast. The fact that they didn't add the additional content from GBA version is a bummer for me. I won't pay for a game with less content just because it looks good. For me, the GBA versions and the PSP ports that follows the GBA ones (FFI, II and IV) are the best ones.

    The spritework is still the biggest turnoff for this version but dang am I blown away by how good the attack animations are in this version. The lack of character profile pics when in the dialog screens is a PLUS, not a negative. It made the game look cheap in the remakes. Like it was emulating a Suikoden , NOT a Final Fantasy Game. I'm glad they took that out of this version. I hated it in every other version they added it in. I really wish they based this more on the original instead of the GBA version. I hated that version.

    Hello, Square Enix said that they would base their PR editions on the originals games that's we're not getting the added content so it was clear from the start. I don't know if it's a good choice but this game is improved on the original game and that's enough for me to play it. PS: the loading times you are mentioning are not present on the PC version. And for the die hard fans of the original colors there's already a mod to correct that if you want.

  • @sor3999

    Overall, I like this version a lot. I agree it's the best version. The graphics aren't as bad as I thought it would be. The upgraded music is stellar especially with the opera having vocals. Some of the tracks have an additional slightly different second loop or have been extended. Also this game supports 32:9 aspect ratio so ultrawide and super ultrawide users can rejoice as you can see more of the gameplay field.
    Nitpicks would be no opening credits, there is still some censorship like Celes getting beat up and some sprites (I understand this is because of Japan's CERO ratings, but no reason why other regions can't have a different version), and some translation choices I feel were better on the SNES version like Locke's responses to Celes in the dressing room are more ambiguous while the GBA translation are overt. Like when Locke responds to why he saves Celes he says "because I'm tired of standing by and doing nothing while I lose the girls I like". Might as well just say "Because I love you, Celes". Now I don't know what the actual Japanese text was trying to say though. Other translations were along the lines of "I once lost someone I loved" to indicate Locke feels guilty about Rachael without implying any feelings for Celes yet. It makes no sense in the following lines when Locke dodges the question if she's Rachael's replacement.
    Now I understand almost all of these have been in versions since the GBA so it's not a specific nitpick on this version. I was hoping they'd address these.

    I didn't like how the leaked sprites were brighter at first since 6 distinguishes itself as being darker aesthetically, but upon actually playing the game I don't feel it's all that tangibly different than the original. Even your own side-by-side shot at 2:06 isn't all that different. Areas where it's dark and gritty like Vector still are. Some characters were slightly redesigned to better align with their concept art which I don't mind. If I wanted pure SNES nostalgia I'd play that version on a CRT.

    They recently released this on the Nintendo Switch as well, and you could get 1-6 in a bundle. I think it was a bit overpriced, but I haven't played these games since my childhood, so nearly 20 years ago! The graphic updates really look great in the pixel style :)
    I recently finished FF6, and I used the Boost thing to give myself 4x exp/ap/gil when I was grinding, and this by far was like a godsend. I play with the battle speed on highest, and use auto-battle heavily while grinding. If you're mindlessly grinding in the same spot, you COULD waste hours with 1x exp/ap/gil, or just speed the process up significantly. I was at the magic tower and literally got all my "not so much used" characters to master all the spells in about 1 hour :D
    Having a lot of gil was also awesome for the same exact reason, some of the Relics just cost so much money, I would've grinded the gil either way so why not speed it up a bit? I had Angel Rings on everyone for the permanent Regen effect, this also then made grinding much easier. Having a lot of money lets you also buy literally every new piece of armor and weapon and all relics, letting you experiment.
    Overall, had a blast with FF6, and LOVE the Boost when used for grinding! The pixel art upgrades were top-notch, and I know this video is over a year old, but in the Switch version I didn't experience choppiness and there was an option to make the text also pixel style. The music is easily one of the best soundtracks in the entire FF series. 10/10

    Is it just me or is this version more difficult than the original? Random battle encounters seem way too frequent and the leveling up system seems slower than the original. Tunnel Armor attacks more frequently so you can't hide behind Runic forever. So I think enemies attack more frequently and do more damage or at least their "special" attacks do more damage.

But now I see it’s called FFIII in the US but I have found FFVI for the SNES with English on the cartridge. Did Nintendo/Square later go on to fix the name for the SNES or not? And which should I buy for the SNES?

    • @Altercate
      @Altercate  9 месяцев назад

      Late reply, but basically the English SNES version of this game is "Final Fantasy III". When the game was first released in North America, only two previous Final Fantasy games had made it there, so they changed the numbers to try to avoid confusing the customers. Ironically, people ended up super confused in the long run. :)
      So, basically: if you're looking for a physical cartridge of the English version of this game, it's Final Fantasy III
      If you're looking for a new version of this game (such as the Pixel Remaster), it's Final Fantasy VI.
