Rafflesia not in S-Tier is absolutely wild. i dont know how far the comments go but placing all the location of the monsters on screen is one thing but for learning the skill from gau ,you only have to stay at VELDT when you first get him. return again after you get the airship, right away. then return right before general Leo dies, then again just before you do the floating island , after that just farm on the VELDT until then . i manage to get all the skills in a few weeks only because of the chance of running into the enemy. like "stray cat" you only get 1 chance to get it, one of the hardest skills to get. and you have to do that when you first get Gau , "THE VERY FIRST TIME!!". well other then that good job going to the pain trying to find were all the monsters are located .
I appreciate that you took the time to put this all together; there are SO MANY rages, and I never wanted to bother with most of them, so whenever I was stuck with him, I'd usually just use Flare Star, because I remember getting ROCKED by it the first time I ran into Atma Weapon, since I was horrendously underleveled. I watched the whole thing, and it went by faster than I'd thought it would; good flow, and you kept it interesting. I might actually use Gau in future runs thanks to this!
I've been a Gau enjoyer all my life, so this is wonderful to see. I would have personally put all of the rages that use magic higher than ones that don't (outside of really good ones like Stray Cat) as he uses no MP while raging, making them great for random encounter heavy areas where you want to preserve MP. Particularly healing magic, where you can just hang out in a random battle for a while for infinite healing! The main downside is actually having to remember which rage does what while you sift through all the bad ones, lol
Coco's move Overture (formerly Love Token) is kinda interesting as it forces the affected opponent to "Cover" for her, taking any physical damage that would go to her. I've been screwed over by it before, so I just use magic on Coco and that does it. When cast, the dialogue box says, "Protect me!"
44:50 - Fossil Dragon can first be encountered in the desert near Kohlingen -- a rare, but nasty surprise. Also, hard to blame Woolsey for changing or simplifying a lot of monster names.
I know it was busted so I get why Wind God Gau was removed from other versions, but being able to just clear the screen with quadruple 4x power wind slashes was so much fun.
Gau is a "Zangief" character. Difficult to master but in the hands of someone who knows him well he can be dangerous! The comparison arises from the fact that Zangief is a slow power character, but if he can hit you with his tiltawhirl piledriver it dies UNGODLY damage!
The only downside to the Gaia Gear strat is Edgar and Cyan can't wear Gaia Gears without Merit Awards. You gotta float them. Also there are too many Auto-Float enemies to make it useful. Once you get Fire Shields going, Mover (Meltdown) is a far better option.
I dunno what the creators were thinking making cat scratch the most OP of Gau’s rages considering he has a ton of dog ones. Leave it to the good ole house cat to be the most sneakiest of the bunch.
Education. It's what many youtubers lack. If you play the snes version and you travel over 1000k You will run into the "White Dragon" On the veldt. Jump in. Afterwards wait until you see Tri-tok. Kill it. Check your inventory. 99 of ever item ever thought of in the FF3 US version. 99 Genji Gloves, 99 AEGIS ARMOR!!! HEAD CHEST!!! I should be famous. None of you know the glory of X-boxes on every character. Check with your devs. SNES US VRS
Yes, I watched the whole thing front to back xD I used to always want to use Magitek Armor Rage as a kid because I thought it was so cool that one of my party members could use Tek Laser. I also remember accidentally stumbling onto how good Tirillium was, being able to spam Bio that early is nuts. Next time I play through, I think I'm gonna go out of my way to get Magic Urn, holy moly
27:40 Surprisingly what I've learned from this is how wrong some of these monster sprites looked to me as a kid on a CRT. That's a woman with her right arm curling towards her face, holding some kind of orb. Not a weird monster face with a woman's body. The orb she's holding looked like its eyeball, and her right arm being the weird monster face, lol.
NOW I remember why I didn't bother. 90% of Gau's Rages are some variation of... Punch thing slightly harder.... Single target status ailment.... Fractional damage.... Effect if multiple of X level..... Available so late in the game you may as well just finish the game... and death variant that doesn't matter anyway since anything that would be worth using it on is probably immune. And or course the fact that magic just straight up trumps 99% of what he can get anyway.>
@26:45 This is actually known as the Serpent's Land. If you look carefully, you will see this is formed by what used to be the Serpent's Trench, and is actually in the shape of a serpent! Thanks for putting together this incredible compilation of information.
People have mentioned Entice for the Rafflesia, but I think you also underrated the Doom Dragon. He should be B rank because his freezing skill also can hit bosses.
It's a good one if you want to cheese Kefka but keep a little random chance of failing (Northern Cross has a 50% chance of not freezing the target even if it hits)
@@duhdeedee Oh I didnt know that. I know when its used on you it has to do with the number of allies already frozen. not sure if that was part of the attack or dragon ai
Yeah but Fiend Dragon is gotten at the final dungeon. Rafflesia you can get once you get the airship. The biggest insult on this tier list is Mu being F but he is okay with Foper getting A(who has a worse instant kill).
Wow, this video was suggested to me randomly, and it's such a nostalgia trip because Gau (along with Cyan and Sabin) were my favorite team to use when i 1st played FF6 back in my childhood
Tyrannosaur Rage's Meteor is _completely_ different from the regular one (which you can learn from an Esper). That one is a multi-hit attack, which makes it closer to its FF5's version.
Northern Cross is basically Stop status, but can be undone if the target's hit with fire. It's there to waste a player's turns. Do like the original SNES text of "You'd best be frozen!" Also, that "Middle Continent" in WoR is what was the Serpent Trench.
Best meme party is Gau, Umaru, Mog, and Gogo. Mog has heals with the dance that has best heals (I forget now if that's grassland), and Gau/Gogo with Stray Cat and Umaru bringing the bulk is just a blast.
Umaro even at lv 99 is still PURE CRAP and I'll have Gogo also join at lv 99 BUT Dance for Mog POST Floating Continent is still crap even with 100+ Magic the healing dances still aren't worth it.
I'm surprised to see Rafflesia this low... but I understand it's because you had no idea that Entice worked on bosses. I'm currently playing T-Edition, and Intangir is one of the best Rages in it: instead of that awful Transfusion, you get to cast a non-elemental damaging spell on a single target, and still have Haste, Protect, Shell, Float and Vanish on top of absorbing all elements and all the status immunities.
Never touched Gau in my first playthrough of FF6 on the snes or GBA back in 2012, so it was cool to see his potential in this video. I'm thinking of using him when I do my FF6PR run
Im currently doing my first pr 100% run. Im finally starting the floating continent. Of course i have to redo the air force battle because i didn't get the spec bestiary entry 😳 good thing i caught that lol. I fully understand the amount of time and work this list took. So cool to see what each monster does. Thank you so much, its so great that there's people out there who appreciate this game the way I do. Edit: watched front to back and even read all the comments. You say Figaro the good way 😉
Can we take a moment to appreciate how absolutely metal the sandhorse is and has no right being such a good visual design? Just after the 30 min marker.
Slight correction on Behemoth King. The living version has no rage. You can't even leap on the living version in SNES as it doesn't show up. Only the Undead version has a rage (Firaga).
The Mu is actually kinda useful. Snare is an attack that causes instant death and tends to work. It's the only way to beat the Intangir without having him use meteo just before he dies. I usually use the Veil Dancer that casts Blizzara on most playthroughs. I would have ranked her higher. Entice will work on literally any enemy in the game, including Kefka. It is absolutely broken. The Sonic Boom taught by the Satellite is actually quite useful. The Tyrannosaur is literally the best rage in the game in the SNES version. He uses Meteo, which is stronger than than Meteor. Yes, Io is pronounced eye-oh. It's one of the moons of Jupiter.
or on the Pixel remaster KEEP the NO encounters cheat on save for the Veldt itself in that case the best ATTACK rages are going to be ONLY Guard Leader Asperian/Aspik Lesser Lopros and Aquiform for aquabreath. For a NO encounters cheat Pixel version cheat ONLY the FIXED battle enemies + the ones on the way to the first 2 Ultros battles are the ONLY enemies that would show up on the Veldt once you turn the battles back ON for the first half of the game. For No the encounters cheat the only FIXED rage WoR only is the one for Entice since the No Encounters cheat does NOT Prevent you from fighting it.
In low level runs, you can use the mu in the SNES to instakill Intangir for magic point farm. By no means a very powerful monster, but it has its uses. This is by far the best way to get magic leveled up for low level since intangir gives no XP.
Had a soft spot for him. Also the first member that I taught Ultima to because I’m too stupid to remove the Paladin shield from him. Ah well, kinda funny for him to cast a powerful Ultima on things.
- Wow. What incredible timing. Literally the VERY INSTANT I had considered leaving a comment saying, "And I thought MY pronunciations were terrible... But after hearing THIS guy... I KNOW they were!" ... You said, and I'm paraphrasing since I heard this about 6 hours ago, "Please feel free to mock all of my pronunciations in the comments". I remember saying Narshe as Nare-She, Chocobo as Kook-a-Boo, Figaro as Fig-a-Row, Cyan as KY-an, Sabin as Say-Bin, Umaro as You-Maro... All of the etceteras! But I was like 11, and born in the Southern States of America! What more could I have done?!
The amount of audio clips that are not queued up correctly and missing graphics, paired with the entire infobox section that isn't aligned properly is disappointing. It feels like I'm learning some great information but also having a stroke watching this video. Could have probably done with a few more hours of editing to ensure the audio wasn't broken and all the image clips were included....
Regarding the pronunciation of Mousse -- it's the same a moose. It's part of the jelly/flan/mousse jiggly dessert line of monsters so the dessert pronunciation should be the correct one.
Stray Cat is the happiest accident I encountered in my first ever playthough in 1995

i dont know how far the comments go but placing all the location of the monsters on screen is one thing but for learning the skill from gau ,you only have to stay at VELDT when you first get him. return again after you get the airship, right away. then return right before general Leo dies, then again just before you do the floating island , after that just farm on the VELDT until then . i manage to get all the skills in a few weeks only because of the chance of running into the enemy. like "stray cat" you only get 1 chance to get it, one of the hardest skills to get. and you have to do that when you first get Gau , "THE VERY FIRST TIME!!". well other then that good job going to the pain trying to find were all the monsters are located .
Appreciate all the effort that's gone into this and the other ranking videos. I've learned a lot.
Good Gawd, he actually did it LMAO! Sir, you are nuts for doing absolutely every rage, but damn do we love you for it! Thanks for the information.
14:43
It is called "Cancer" because the Zodiac sign for Cancer is a scorpion.
There is zero irony in its ability.
At number 255: Tonberries.
It’s at 255, because you can’t use it, because it’s number 255 in the game.
The blaster cats are all enemies that lost their typical name from the previous games, something like coeurl.
Wow, I didn't expect anyone to ever make this list, gz to you!
The entire time I kept asking myself, where is it? WHERE IS STRAY CAT?
Then boom, S tier! THERE IT IS THERE IT IS! It's STRAY CAT!
Gau is a "Zangief" character. Difficult to master but in the hands of someone who knows him well he can be dangerous!
The comparison arises from the fact that Zangief is a slow power character, but if he can hit you with his tiltawhirl piledriver it dies UNGODLY damage!
You can access Kefka's Tower as soon as you have an Airship and maybe 5 members. I do that for some early looting, like MuscleBelt. Pretty doable.
I barely noticed you put mu as f tier lol. It works wonders at floating continent. Great for battling behemoths
Also Magnitude 8 is the best earth elemental attack you can get, because Quake will always deal split damage.
Quake is still better due to Gaia Gear armors healing the party ALL the OTHER EARTH rages ONLY hit the enemies when used.
Stray Cat is the only one I can ever remember in the heat of the moment.
SNES US VRS
Yes, I watched the whole thing front to back xD
I used to always want to use Magitek Armor Rage as a kid because I thought it was so cool that one of my party members could use Tek Laser.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who always saw it that way as a kid.
and I am reminded why I never commit the time to get Gau's rages
im doing good in the world!
Just get stray cat and you're done
NOW I remember why I didn't bother.
90% of Gau's Rages are some variation of...
Punch thing slightly harder....
Single target status ailment....
Fractional damage....
Effect if multiple of X level.....
Available so late in the game you may as well just finish the game...
and death variant that doesn't matter anyway since anything that would be worth using it on is probably immune.
And or course the fact that magic just straight up trumps 99% of what he can get anyway.>
I just started the vid, but if Wooly(snes name) isn't S tier that would be criminal.
Also, thanks for making this vid!
He is B tier, but should be S tier.
FINNALLY someone does this, I cataloged as many as I could once upon a time, so fun for some reason
Seigfried is clearly an S tier rage
Wow, this was a ton of work, thanks!
thx for watching :)
12:40 no, drain doesn't hurt you, it does heal you. It's in fact the only way, to regain HP as an undead.
I probably couldn't pronounce these any better than you tbh. Great guide!
Wow, thanks!
The deal breaker with making Gau undead is that any HP restoration damages him, any multi target Cure is out of the question by then.
This is where Bio and Death come into play. I had this issue when I faced Deathguise and used Borghese (Holy) with Gau, but broke him.
Front to back 👍 and encouraged me to try some different rages in my next PR replay.
That and the dragons spam Kefka's Heartless angel constantly to leave you with 1 HP left when their NOT using North/Southern Cross.
Great job working on this! Love that we can still get content on a 30 year old game.
its all i know dude :(
Wow, this video was suggested to me randomly, and it's such a nostalgia trip because Gau (along with Cyan and Sabin) were my favorite team to use when i 1st played FF6 back in my childhood
oh imma love this. thanks for looking at ALL of them
Tyrannosaur Rage's Meteor is _completely_ different from the regular one (which you can learn from an Esper).
That one is a multi-hit attack, which makes it closer to its FF5's version.
Know what I'm watching when i have time, exactly what I wanted to see.
Northern Cross is basically Stop status, but can be undone if the target's hit with fire. It's there to waste a player's turns. Do like the original SNES text of "You'd best be frozen!" Also, that "Middle Continent" in WoR is what was the Serpent Trench.
What’s southern cross?
@@dannysimion Just a fire elemental attack.
Bro Rafflesia's ability works on ALL bosses including last boss kefka without bug abuse. S tier.
I know that Retainer is too late in the game, but being able to use General Leo's Shock skill. That's very cool.
Gau and Yeti are absolute jerks together. Watching yeti throw gau for thosands of damage and then gau do his random thing is just insane.
Umaro and LV 99 is PURE CRAP and is never in my party Cyan at lv 99 sucks and isn't worth using for Kefka's tower either.
Thabk you for this list. One thing you should have added: A chapter at the end where you describe the go-to rages to use during each section of game.
Brutal amount of effort. Thank you!
Well, you can always Silence Gau when you do vanilla Intangir.
There are so many details in this game that go undiscovered because of how easy it is to get the Moodle Charm and ignore random encounters.
aint that the freaking truth
or on the Pixel remaster KEEP the NO encounters cheat on save for the Veldt itself in that case the best ATTACK rages are going to be ONLY Guard Leader Asperian/Aspik Lesser Lopros and Aquiform for aquabreath.
Cat scratch is so good, I almost wish I hadn't saw it in a game guide. That shit turned the difficulty down for a large portion of the game.
I had multiple dungeons thst were cleared almost entirely by Gau using Snare so I was surprised to see it so low on the list
Awesome video, buddy! Keep up the awesome work!
Templar is pretty good in that Operation: Defend Narshe. It can cast Fire2 on multiple enemies for 0 MP
- Wow. What incredible timing. Literally the VERY INSTANT I had considered leaving a comment saying, "And I thought MY pronunciations were terrible... But after hearing THIS guy... I KNOW they were!"
Lmaoooooo
@@Bdewd - Thanks for understanding!
Trivia: you can fight a Still Life as a random encounter on the little islands south of Triangle Island in the World of Ruin. At least for the SNES.
Guard leader/Marshall, Bomb, coelecite, and Magic Urn are my favorites.
Ninja is unironically busted with water scroll, as it basically does cat scratch to all enemies lol
14:46 We found Cancer! Someone call Russel Crowe! He can fight Cancer now!
