Canadian Speedrunner focusing mostly on Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger. Those two runs really spoke to me. Mostly grinding glitchless in them but once those times go down want to try other categories. Also trying to keep up to date for weekly highlights!

Derust I guess is all done, hurray! See what happens in the next couple of weekends, but I'll upload and submit this for now since I'm pretty sure next weekend will be a bit of a travesty haha.

The water can also be gained by hopping on the raft in the returner base
I feel like Gau and Strago have a similar problem, and that's that their special ability gives them an excessive overlaod of moves that require too much trial and error to figure one attack at a time, or in Gau's case, one fight at a time, to know what works and what doesn't and having to remember which ones to use, or you can just put one of the other guys in your party and know right away what you want them to do.
Keep up the good work dude!
Ive played through this game in its entirety atleast 30 times and not once did i use the pheonix esper spell to revive a single character
Cyan being so high before the Pixel Remaster and Matrix Software versions existed would've been so crazy. Yes, Bushido really was that bad before it got buffed in those versions. Heck, you probably could've done a whole round of attacks or two with the other party members by the time you reached the higher numbers in the older versions.
Locke being able to grab Ultima Weapon/AtmaWpn (twice iirc) alone should've had him placed higher. Being able to grab one of the best weapons in the game from just before the World of Ruin brings so much more usefulness than just whatever "going Unga bunga in fights" metric you're probably using to judge him.
The SNES version has different names for these.
The PBs keep coming!
New reroute and faster versions n every pr, I'm just collecting the easy ones before going back to the tough grinds lol
Tremendous PB growth! You are now a man!
@@craktroop all of these pbs are laughable to even my 5:02 FF6 glitchless lmaoooo
@@Bdewd whatever...think of how long it took until you reached 502 in 6! You are just at the beginning of this
Impersonal use locke, cyan, celes, terra, and edgar.... those r my top 5, always hard to choose between them. Gogo is great, but I personally didn't care.... at all, for Sabin. Yeah he's good at the beginning, and his str is really high, but late game his dmg goes down really fast, so late game he isn't worth it
What the hell are all these words you're using??
I did it with no boots because I didn’t know boots were a thing yet 😭
Dumb worst list you have no idea about ff6 your list is terrible.
Dude, even +1 speed alone makes Odin the best esper in the game. If you take 40 or 50 levels of that, opponents simply don't get a chance to have a turn
Congratulations on the PB!
Your accessibility is weird. Forced to have esper as part of story, 9/10.
When do you think we see the sub 3:30? Next weekend or mid February?
The FF6 tier is generally very much the same between most experienced players, so seeing this very different and wacky list is kind of interesting
This has a lot of speedrunner bias i tried to take out but it's hard at times
Odins good IF you get him early enough as he is the only esper that increases speed.
Honestly, 3.5 for Soul Spiral is pretty generous.
If I ever wanted to take this game seriously, my lineup was Edgar, Sabin, Gau and Terra. Edgar and Sabin seemed relevant all throughout the game, and Gau made the early game (Narshe defense and pre-WoR) incredibly easy. Terra's the main character so, duh.
I remember when I was a kid, if I was ever having a problem prior to World of Ruin, I'd just slap Gau into the team. It felt like he was always designed to be an early unstoppable force.
My final team when I played the game was Crono, Robo, and Magus, without spoiling the game much, I feel like those 3 have the most reason to put down Lavos.
Extra level from ass picks, eh?
Maybe I just have terrible luck, but I've found learning Soul Spiral turns Sabin from one of the best Colosseum choices into completely useless, because his AI loves using it. So I will forever hate it.
Economizer(grind for them) makes Strago a must, along with your other magic users. He's been in my top 4 since the 90s. ;)
Ranking Celes that low is insane.
Short answer: No.
You must really dislike Unicorn, you don't even display or add up your own score accurately.
Remastered without pixies is what i would have hoped for.
At least he was right about one thing, the list definitely stepped on some toes. Lol.
6:50 I want to complain about this - Locke should be way lower.
In FF15, they pronounce catoblepas as "Cat-toe-bleh-paw"
This better be good bdewd

Edgar/Tools over Terra/Morph is *nuts* to me.
I am 100% on team Drill over Chainsaw
There's definitely a missed the opportunity to go to the Veldt, during the Zozo sequence until end of Opera. You can make it to the Veldt after the Kefka at Narshe sequence. If you want, take the cave to S. Figaro, then go to Mt. Klots, and then to Returner Hideout. Enter Lete River, then follow Sabin's path to the Veldt. You'll have to take the Serpent's Trench to get to Nikeah, and then travel by boat to S. Figaro. It's a long trip, but if you are doing a solo Gau run, or just enjoy having Gau's skills up to date, it is very useful. It's not ironic that Cancer uses Esuna. The crab constellation, and zodiac astrological sign related to the crab, who in Greek mythology pinched Heracles while he was fighting the Lernaean hydra, has the astrological attributes of compassion, commitment, and loyalty. Tumors were also named cancer, after crabs, because the shape of the veins surrounding the tumors that formed, which looked like crab legs. But, that has no relation, other than by shared name, to Cancer the crab, based on fantasy and mythos.
Phoenix gives you plus 3 to magic on lvl up. Know your stuff. Disappointing 🤡
nice bait bro, actually had me google some stuff. every version off ff6 has absolutely no esper level up bonus. was thinking maybe gba did something different or PR on the small update they did a year ago but NOPE. it's ok, engagement is still a win :)
@ you deserved that and you know it
Speaking of the super Nintendo version all final fantasy 3, I will typically grind around Nikeah at the end of Sabin's scenario to get cyan and Saban up to level 15, so that they both have the dancing fire and quadra slam abilities. Doing this really makes fighting Kefka's army in Narshe easier.
8/10 for Magic +2 in a game where Magic is the best ability in the game by far. That’s an easy 10/10. Also Phantom is amazing. One of the most useful Summons.
I end up using Chrono, Marle and Ayla for most of the end game. The reason is that bosses and a lot of end-game enemies have really great stealable items (tabs, Colored Mails, Megalixers). In the Black Omen you can steal a bunch of tabs, the +75% HP and 75% reduced MP cost relics, a Prism Helm, and a Prism Dress. Stealing is crazy good in this game, especially starting Mt. Woe and onward. Apart from Stealing, Ayla's specialty is single target damage. This is key for several story bosses and some optional bosses. She can get access to area damage through dual techs. Marle's only a part of this team because using Dual Charm gives you a nearly 100% steal rate (I think it is 100% with the charm top), meaning you don't miss out or waste time on Ayla's damage potential. She can add to everyone's potential after that by casting haste and focusing on healing. If you don't need to do any of that, she has pretty decent dual techs with both characters. Chrono's Luminaire has the highest base damage of any multi-target spell, so if you can get enough magic tabs to start to catch him up to more magic-focused characters, he starts out-damaging Lucca and Magus (granted this isn't likely to happen, even if you give him every magic tab, until the end of your first New Game +, but that is what I typically do). He also has the second-best single target ability, and some of the best single target dual techs. His high speed carries him through the beginning of the game, and when you get to the point of stealing enough speed tabs to max out everyone's speed (the enemies in the wall of the Black Omen), he has some of the best moves. After those characters, I'd say Magus and Lucca are one-trick ponies (multi-target damage) outside of their abilities to cast the wall and protect spells. (That being said, damage is a pretty good trick). Wall and protect you can get end game with gear, and it doesn't wear off and can't be dispelled with gear as opposed to using their moves. Everyone also has access to this with items). Robo and Frog have really great options for moves, covering a lot of different situations, but they have terrible stats for their best moves, meaning that the effect is always underwhelming. (it is fun to use Frog for the Magus and Mammon Machine fights just to see the special effects of attacking them with the Masamune). If you new game plus into your third or fourth playthrough and throw a ton of tabs at them, they become the best characters in the game, but before that, they're pretty meh.
You… you tricked me. 🤦🏻🤡
:)
Are you trying to be edgy or attention-wh0ring by giving 2/5 to Locke's story? Because you failed in both cases. Git gud.
Whats considered gud? And we really be censoring whore eh? Lmao
@@Bdewd If you don't know what good is, I'd recommend you study more before creating content. Also, censoring? You're free to keep making bad lists and getting thumbs down. Play videogames, don't play victim. Peace.
@@laranjashtear i just wasn't sure if getting wr in ff6 speedrunning was gud or if grinding everyone to 60 to do big damage was good. Thats all :)
@@BdewdOnly going to say that you should blame RUclips for that. You literally can't even type something critical of a person or entity or call them out for being evil without RUclips's neurotic nannybot thinking that your comment is "too mean" to continue existing, especially when you're replying to a comment.
I rate Locke over Shadow some due to the fact that Shadow spends most of the WoB unusable. It seems like he would've gone to Vector, they sell ninja weapons there. Not being playable means no strength bonus from Bismark. So when I level average everyone to 20 for the Floating Continent (2 chars can get to 22, 1 to 21), Shadow doesn't end up dealing nearly as much damage as Locke with the double Hawkeyes. In my last file, Locke at level 29 was up to 159 strength, while Shadow was at 99 for level 30. Still really broken stats for both, but Locke's equipment helps make him stronger too. Esper bonuses done properly just break everyone. Maybe I'd tie Locke with Shadow because steal is so useful. Locke can deal more damage but is more vulnerable. Definitely opposite for Gau if you know how to use him and break him too (strength and magic stats being high). Relm is the worst because she deleted all my files multiple times with her stupid paintbrush :') Although her magic stat is really high from the start. Though I couldn't get higher than 92 by level 30, while Terra had 100. So excessive lol. I guess if we don't include Esper bonuses, Shadow is probably a little better than Locke. He can steal with the thief knife at least, but not like with the Sneak Ring. I bring him and Locke to Zozo to try and steal Dragoon Boots and Atlas Armlet.
Part of why this list is funny and making ppl mad is cuz with esper bonuses everyone is broken. Also, everyone is only thinking late game setup when the list specifically talks about early and mid game as well. Locke frickin sucks early game
@@Bdewd True, Locke for combat is completely useless until around the Sealed Gate when he can wield the double hawkeyes. But steal is such an important command in this game, way moreso than previous games. Maximizing his strengh may absolutely turn him into a monster late into the game, but defensively he's terrible. Golem and Big Guard will help get around that but still, that just makes the game too easy
Locke is one of the best pure attackers in the game. Give him a genji glove + offering and he's hitting for 79,992 damage per turn. This list seems like it came from someone who's never played the game, or maybe played it once. Setzer over Locke? lol
Joker doom baby
How exactly is locke hitting for 8x9999? There is only 1 Valiant Knife in the game and that requires him to be at the lowest hp for maximum damage, speaking purely on just the main part of the game there is also 1 Atma Weapon (you can farm them in the gba version) that deals the most damage the higher your hp is. You sound like someone that read a wiki with no experience and thought it was a good idea to post it.
@ Level him up with +strength/vigor espers, equip him with an atma weapon and Illumina or another atma weapon, etc. FF6 allows most characters to get OP in the endgame. You can really beat the game with anyone so a rankings list probably doesn’t matter much, anyhow. Grind in the forest with Brontosaurs and t-rexes (can’t remember exact enemy name) in the World of Ruin. Also, his Steal ability is fantastic. You can steal quite a few excellent weapons/armor/relics in the game. If you want to keep damaging and stealing, give him a Thief’s Ring to change Steal to Capture and give him an offering. Sit back while he hits 4 x 9999 and steals from multiple enemies every battle. Enjoy!
@@Bonkrefeen In that case then Terra is a much better attacker due to her Morph ability negating the 50% damage loss from equipping the offering. The valiant knife/atma weapon/dice/fixed dice don't get this cut, and how is a second atma weapon really that special when you get it on the second to last boss in the game? Lockes steal chance is tied to his level, a level 50 locke has a 29% chance to steal a second atma weapon from rest, a 1% chance to steal a minerva from the tonberries, 32% chance from goddess, not including rolling for the 1/8 rare steal which is a separate roll. Outside of those steals you could put genji gloves, economizer and megaelixers on the list for being actually useful. He is a good character if you want to put mass amounts of levels into them, as you said, most characters are at that point so nothing still makes him stand out in terms of usefulness. All the "good" steals are either at the end of WoB or in the middle/end of WoR.
@ lol I just read your entire reply. You're a slow one, huh? Being pedantic doesn't make you intelligent, at all. It just tells us you need more to do in your life. There are many, many more weapons than ValiantKnife and Atma weapon that Locke can use. Throw an Illumina on him and have fun. I've probably beaten FF3 SNES about 80+ times. If you think min-maxing is at all meaningful or necessary in this game, *you* sound like someone who read a wiki and doesn't have a clue. Bozo.
Bro, you don’t see the issue with your “grading rubric”? How is the number 1 Ester given less than a 30 out of 40 when there are no other FF games that use espers for you to compare to? Example: not a single esper got a 10 out of 10 in accessibility. Bro, how does that make sense? In order to use a rubric you need minimum and maximum guidelines to “grade” with. If accessibility means at the earliest convenience and/or automatically, then the earliest Esper you get (regardless of how you think it should be acquired sooner, is a 10 out of 10. That’s why all your espers got a D grade because none made it over 30 out of 40. In percentage wise, your highest grade given to an espet was like a D+ or C-. Here’s a great correction: Accessibility: Earliest automatic Espers get 10/10 or earlier than any automatic but can be optional with low difficulty is 10/10. The further away from that the lower the score. Again, leveling boosts is irrelevant in PR since you can gain AP x4 and set XP to zero. Meaning if an esper you get earlier than most is most valuable with spells with no level bonus and there are already so many others with a stat bonus but less useful, then level up bonus need not apply since you can shut off XP and just learn all the spells early on with max AP. Since the same goes for ones with level up bonuses, the category is subjective relative to the time you acquire the esper. That’s like saying “well you don’t need potions since Hi Porions heal for more HP, therefore a potions usefulness compared to a Hi potion means don’t waste your time with potions. Just wait until you get the good stuff.” Sounds ridiculous, right? Usefulness should replace level up bonus where usefulness considers the time you can acquire the esper and the need for that esper in its placement of accessibility.
Terra gets 10/10 accessibility cuz she's the first esper we get XD fwiw this list was made before the boosters were added to the game. Makes a lot of thinking about setup and grinding much more trivial
Maybe if you realized that they don’t all need a stat bonus since there isn’t that many stats and instead appreciate that the PR allows for 4x AP to learn spells making the ones with no level up bonus more important than ones with worthless level up bonuses. Ones without a level up Bonus should get a score in that category based off the usefulness of them early on as most early espers don’t have one. This way Shiva could be ranked 25 instead.
0:47 - 1:08 "Do not fear about your such horrible thoughts, is your pitfully! It is your final words. Maybe, you are upon us. I get where you're coming from with the whole "there is no summon with a perfect stat lineup", but for some elements like availability, why would it not be 10/10 for summons you WILL get no matter what, like Ramuh and the 3 espers?
I can’t believe how subjective all of this is 😂
No no no completely objective and factual, no bias 👀
