I figured that edgar made it when their parents died and kept it secret from Sabin, and then remembers it later, which is what prompts him to ask for a coinflip that he knows sabin will 'win'.

Like yourself, both are always in my party unless I’m forced to use alternate party members for a scenario or w/e.
My main party differs slightly, though:
Edgar, Sabin, Terra/Celes (favor towards Celes for Runic), then Locke.
There are probably better characters than Locke, but that steal skill is so damn valuable for nicking great weapons and gear (example - getting Gaia Gear long before you can purchase it, stacking expensive Gold Shields for WoB ‘end gear’, stealing excessive amounts of Relics then selling them - my list goes on).

I never use Gogo, primarily because they have no story, but also because they're kind of like Kimahri in FFX where it's like "Whatever role I put you in, I already have one of those." Redundancy is their whole personality. Yeah, I guess you can Mimic spells for free, but you gotta set that up by making sure they go directly after the spell, possibly waiting around and not having other party members act. Also, it's not that big a deal to just slap an MP cost reduction relic on a normal caster and just have them use whatever I want them to in the moment.

@@vladv5126 I could give a lot more comprehensive list, and first and foremost is how the game is optimized or how a standard run goes. IN a standard blind run, I can understand Gau not being seen as good because you'd have to grab his rages and then use it, get lucky by seeing 'stray cat cat scratch'. But when you optimize him, there's a lot of ways to break him. Even without that, his stats are among the highest of the group, he comes low enough level that he can be turned into a solid mage with bulk (like Mog just mog comes later so less levels to play with) or even the imp gear abuse with rage (equip all the imp gear onto him, start him in a rage, then cast imp on him if it isn't resistant to the status. Or cast imp before and he no longer gets use of 'rage' can can just attack normally but with really strong imp gear.)
The bottom two characters for any sort of playthrough as long as you have a brain are Umaro and Gogo. Gogo has awful equipment options and with the lowest starting stats of the characters. (So Bdewd straight up lied here to justify his bias) and with no ability to INCREASE them. Gogo's only saving grace is 'versatility' with low stats and 'no need to level their magic learned' sort of ease, but by this point your party should already be good with magic, so having someone who doesn't need to be trained to use spells isn't going to help

Personally i think the Celes x Locke interactions are a highlight of the game. Its about broken people having feelings for each other but dont get together because of their issues meaning they arent ready and what they mean to each other is a major part of their character arcs (Celes's reason for going forward is someone who understands her and Locke's is that he found someone "worth protecting") it enhances their characters and arcs imo
So "teen romance" seems like a very over simplification of their dynamic imo

    • @ikeillue8385
      @ikeillue8385 9 месяцев назад

Personally, I think the concept is good, but the execution of very poor. Like, early in the game, someone brings up the concept of Celes' feelings, and she responds by saying something along the lines of "I'm not some love struck girl." Then she proceeds to "develop" into exactly that, up to and including to the extent of nearly killing herself for a friggin ribbon that her "crush" gave her. There is a right way to write a story about a strong female character developing and embracing newfound love, and the Celes x Locke story is not how you do it.
To me it actually felt like a reversed character arc. She started off at the "mid" point of her character arc, where she was strong and confident, but wasn't able to embrace her feelings, so she still had learning to go. But instead of developing into that strong character who could also embrace her feelings, she went back into a weak pathetic "love struck girl", where it would have made sense for an arc to start, not end (not necessarily for her, considering that she was a super soldier, and a general of the most powerful military on the planet, starting her off at that state wouldn't make a lot of sense.).
Obviously this is personal opinion, but I really thought that Celes' character arc was awful (The whole, losing all hope, to the extent of giving up, but them picking herself up by her bootstraps to push through anyway was alright. But the rest was not.).

@ikeillue8385 what she was like at the start was the flaw she was given. Being closed off and cold to everyone isn't a good thing the point is she develops out of that, gets nicer and opens herself up to Locke. Also her initial personality was likely a result of being groomed into being a general by the empire
She never gets weak really she stabs Kefka on the floating continent, and after she finds a reason to live she finds everyone and convinces them to have reasons to fight Kefka and hang on to hope if anything she's stronger after her arc
Also she didn't kill herself because of the bandana she killed herself because she thought everyone was gone his bandana was just what let her know the person she most cared for was still alive and gave her hope to keep going

      @ikeillue8385 9 месяцев назад

@@banzaialex5984 Yes, I absolutely agree. Thats why I said that it felt like she started off at the mid point of her development. But instead of going from that closed off and cold individual, into a confident secure strong individual, who is open with their feelings, she goes form that to a pathetic clingy desperate child.
She does get weak. Again, one of the last things we see her do in the game, is nearly kill herself in order to retrieve a piece of cloth that her crush gave her, and only doesn't die, because he puts himself into danger to save her life.
We are talking about two different scenes. I'm not talking about the suicide scene. I get that one. Its her low point in the arc, and she is specifically supposed to be weak and defeated at that time. I'm talking about the very end of the game, when they are escaping from the collapsing tower, and she drops the ribbon, goes back for it, and the floor collapses out from underneath her, and Locke has to go back and save her from falling.

It's not that Locke is a bad thief... the problem is that FFVI has some of the worst stealing mechanics in the series, especially when it comes to rare steals.
WoR Locke has one trump card that absolutely makes him worth using, though: the Valiant Knife. It's basically an inverted Ultima Weapon, meaning Locke deals more damage the bigger the difference between his current and max HP. Also, this damage boost isn't affected by Master's Scroll, so Locke becomes a physical powerhouse with it (like Ultima Weapon, Valiant Knife ignores the target's defense and, at high levels, pretty much ensures 9999 damage all the time).

First, if you know how to use espers to level up your characters stats, Gogo and even Umarow become the weakest members since they can't equip them.
Second, available accessories and equipment can make characters more than anything, and in that sense, Shadow should have been definitely above Strago or Celes, specially considering Ichigeki as his mai weapon if you go for him in the world of ruin, but I get the point of him not being an actual party member if you don't save him as a wy to say he is not that important, but hehas a dog and that rocks.

Locke's usefulness is boosted heavily by being one of 4 characters able to use the Illumina, and the Atma Weapon.
Those 4 characters (Locke, Celes, Terra, Edgar) can reliably solo the Dinosaur Forest, making it very easy to get them to L99, with max stat boosts (as gaining levels solo means your stat-levelup is perfect with no conflicts). Later in the video: Again Terra's Ability and Usefulness are higher because she can use the best equipment.

The main reasons he was ranked so low was because the person said he was so bad in combat, which is just factually untrue resulting in a clear bias against Gau because.... only using blatantly overpowered attacks 50% of the time isn't good enough? Cat Scratch is 4x damage, even if Gau on average only uses it 50% of the time, that means Gau's average damage is 2x anyone elses, if he's using a Break Rage, most enemies in the early game don't have resistance to break, so it's in most situations an unblockable instant death, and same with Gigavolt, another super early spell, with the nearly the same power as Thundaga, an endgame spell at no cost or cast time, it would be completely absurd to be using that 100% of the time every time.
It is not an "Opinion" that Gau is better than he listed, it's just an absolute fact.

Yeah I think Gogo is rated way too highly on this list. While it is nice to be able to use any of the other characters skills his base stats are pretty terrible not to mention you get him so late and he joins at such a high level (because of joining late) that he misses out on lots of esper level up bonuses. I pretty much never used him because anything he could do another party member could just do it better.
It was one thing he didn't seem to really consider in his list at all tbh. Like he put Relm lower than Strago in usefulness despite Lore being fairly niche and while sketch is mostly useless she is the strongest magic user in the game (outside of Terra when in Esper form) I found many reasons to have Relm in my party but pretty much never a reason to use Strago.
Generally speaking my main party ends up being Terra, Edgar & Sabin + 4th rotating party member. Edgar is strong in WoB with Tools but I usually have him on +Str espers as late game I switch him over to a Dragoon setup with Dragoonboots + Horn as he is the only character (excluding Mog) that can use spears to take full use of Multi jump dragoon damage. Sabin is usually on Double Earring to maximize his early game blitzes like Aura Canon and Flame Dance and then using +magic espers to really help him out. You can get Bum Rush early and makes him a single target powerhouse. AoE he is good but doesn't compare to Terra. Terra is the best magic user due to Morph. Sure she loses on magic power to Relm but when in Morph she obliterates bosses. Usually keep her in the party spamming multi-target magic spells with Gem Box. She is a bit weak early game but she pays off dividends once she can equip espers and with Minerva + Paladin Shield she can easily hit mblock cap making her pretty much unkillable. 4th party member usually switches with which part of the game I am in but it is often Setzer at the end (if I don't plan to grind to a high level) due to Offering + Fixed dice being such a broken combo. If I do plan to grind it will more likely be Celes to be the Offering + Genji Glove & Atma + Illumina combo user.

@@GoeTeeks I remember back in 1994, my neighbor and I settled upon this head canon idea that Gogo was actually Emperor Gestahl. We reasoned that he took on the alter ego and heavily shrouded image of "Gogo" because, 1) the bodily injuries that he would have sustained from being struck by the Goddess' bolt and then from falling from the Floating Continent would have rendered him so grossly disfigured that hiding his true form would have become practically a necessity, and 2) because while he wanted revenge to get revenge on Kefka, as a former emperor, his immense pride probably meant that it would likely have been easier on him to join the side of his former enemies whilst playing the part of an anonymous mime than to show actual humility by admitting to them his true identity / asking for forgiveness for the actions he committed as emperor. And that's if he even remembered who he used to be, as we also supposed that the grievous bodily injuries sustained from the fall from the Floating Continent may have also left him with full amnesia, to the point where he couldn't remember anything about himself, except that maybe his name started with the letter "G" 😉
Obviously, looking back on it now, the idea is ludicrous, but as 11 yr old kids in the pre-internet era of 1994, we really thought we were onto something! 😂

There is 3 thieves in the game: Locke (2 types), Shadow (& his protector/revenge --> interceptor), and Gogo (I do all things "poorly" because of stats). There have very good uses and they are different and dynamic (learn how to use them wisely).
There are 3-5 knights (magical): Terra (buffed), Celes (mag. def.), and Edgar (support/versatile). Cyan is more (tactician, +1 imp/retort glitch) knight than (magical) and Mog is more (terrain) magical than (knight).
There are 3 characters that copy monsters: Gau (+1 wind god glitch), Strago, and Relm (+1 invis. glitch). Find strong monsters & get strong attacks.
There are 2 luck-based characters: Setzer (rng?, slots) and Umaro (berserk status).
I would like to say Sabin is the only hero character in the game. (Heart of gold, strong, reliable, knows what the value/meaning/need for sacrifice).

So first off I don't think any character is the main character which is one of FF6's greatest strengths IMO
I don't really think I could make a list for full usefullness, however realm will always be at the bottom for me, she comes in too late and leaves almost immediately and is a pain to get back. Umaru while annoying to get starts out with great stats and given armor and relics can be quite the beast. Strago also is very annoying as his main gimmick requires so much time investment into getting. By far I love the characters that hit physically hard, give me sabin, celes, cyan and terra (part of this has to go into what a character can equip). But the gengi glove and offering can turn into 8 ultimas when built right and that just can't be beat.

I'll add my thoughts about the characters in the order you listed them:
(This is going to be a long comment so be sure to have a cup of coffee next to you while reading this)
    Umaro:
Umaro is basically only useful in the Fanatics Tower because he deals a good consistent damage and doesn't suffer from the only magic enchantment and the fact that most enemies have reflect.
    Gau:
Gau is useful when you first get him and collect some of his rages. He is in fact the only character who can perform an AOE attack during Sabin's Scenario with "Lesser Lopros". It's a strong AoE spell for the first half of the game which helps you in Zozo as well as in the Magitek Factory.
Other than that, if you learn the "OverMind / Oversoul" rage (from the rare encounter in Phantom Train), he gets a pretty strong single target magical spell from it that can help you.
Other than that, I don't really like him and when I played the game the first time I didn't use him at all. (leaving Setzer and him behind at Kefkas Tower)
    Mog:
    I DISAGREE!
Mog is cute, joins at a high level when you first get him in WoB which helps for casual playthrough and he offers great damage output if you put on him the DragoonerBoots as well as Dragon Horn so he can jump up to 4 times. (he is with Edgar the only character who can equip Lances which make Jump stronger by I think 125%) While you are often better off with Edgar using his tools or magic rather than his jump abilities, Mog is the jumper himself!
He got a strong nerf in the PixelRemaster though as you can just disable encounters by default in contrast to the SNES. If on SNES, he crushes Fanatics Tower with Moogle Charm.
    Relm:
I agree. She is the one of the latest characters in WoB AND WoR and with that barely knows any spells.
    Locke:
Actually agree. I literally prefer Cyan over him early game because Locke's damage output just sucks! (Until late game when you have Ultima Weapon and ValiantKnife) He is good though for stealing. For example you can steal a Tempest from Number 128 with Locke which you can equip to Cyan.
You find another Tempest in a chest a little bit later in the game and if you equip both to Cyan using Genji Glove he is a strong guy!
Tempest can cause a Wind Attack to every enemy and having twice the chance to do so can be a game changer.
Also Rachel's story never got near me because it's LITERALLY MISSABLE. Also he's a dick to Celes accusing her of being a traitor and messing his relationship with her up. She was too much of a baddie to fumble...
Also he is the hardest character to recruit in WoR.
    Shadow:
Shadow's backstory always touched me. I just love him. He is the reason why the party continues to live on Floating Continent! Also he is a mysterious ninja... I just love that archetype so I would have put him higher. He is Relm's father! Being a father to a character that sucks is a downside though.
I love throwing Heal Rods with him on enemies though because of their high attack power. (the only right way to use Heal Rods)
    Strago:
Same as Relm but a bit better. I don't like his story and he is just as useless as Relm if you don't know about the Lores (WHICH AS A KID I DIDN'T CARE ABOUT) He is good for a water spell though.
    Setzer:
Every time I play the game I like Setzer more! I begin to start the Slot mechanic as well. He has shitty stats though in my opinion.
His story is great and I love his style! I did him wrong leaving him behind on Kefka's Tower as a kid though.
    Celes:
Can't add anything here except he was my childhood crush. Runic sucks I guess? I love playing as her though and she's great for WoR. If she has a strong magic stat you will destroy anything with her! She is the character who learns the most esper spells in the game because I think she has one of the highest playtimes.
    Cyan:
Loved him as a kid, becomes worse the longer I play the game. His ability is outperformed by most others. It just takes an eternity to power up. He is great in WoB though with Double Tempest and solid Sword "1" consistent damage. Love his backstory though and art of talking.
    Gogo:
??? Weird character. It can't even unlock the Paladin's Shield!! In fact, Gogo is the only character which is not able to uncurse the Cursed Shield when equipped. (I MADE THIS MISTAKE AS A CHILD) It took me hours to realise! I hated Gogo since that. I don't know if this bug was fixed in the PR.
    Sabin:
Always a good character. Great backstory, good looks and soundtrack. Extremely strong and useful. Not much to add here!
One thing that comes to my mind: As a kid, I always leveled Strength to him because he looks like a powerful man! He looks like a physical fighter and when I learned that magic is actually the better stat to learn blew my mind back then...
    Terra:
Overrated! This is subjective though, as I just think Celes is the better girl. Also you play more with Celes which make her learn more spells than Terra. You lose Terra for a good amount of WoB and when entering the Sealed Cave she starts with very little spells. Morph is great though in WoR! Definitely a big damage dealer later! (Ultima 9999)
    Edgar:
Yeah. He is the best. I would have unsubscribed if you didn't place him on #1 :D
His tools are so useful and he is the funniest character! I love his dialogue. They did a good job writing him. Also I love how he disguises as Gerad which is an acronym to Edgar. His interaction with women is very funny :D
As funny as he is, he is a genius though!
He is never not useful. Always put him in my party. His tools are OP in WoB as much as in WoR.
If I could choose a team to beat the entire game with I would choose the following characters:
    Edgar (Tools/Jump)
    Celes (Magic/Heal)
Sabin (Spam Blitzes) which can also heal or AoE attack
Shadow (Throw 99 Shurikens and use Interceptor counters!)
Pretty good ranking overall though! :)
Thanks for reading this comment if you made it that far. Let me know your thoughts about what I wrote down :D

Gau can be kinda good if you get Stray Cat, Gold Bear (if you somehow missed Stray Cat), or Overmind (for reasons you've described already.), but also getting Toe Cutter and Luridan later gives you enemy abilities that are basically Flare but can't be reflected.
I will admit he does require investment to actually be really good. To get the most out of Stray Cat or Gold Bear, he practically requires a Genji Glove and/or Offering. And for Overmind/Luridan/Toe Cutter's powerful neutral magic spells, you're contending with the 50/50 chance that Gau randomly selects the underwhelming physical move. Also, depending on which rages you're going to be using longterm, gear and/or esper stat distribution will likely be different. If you're going to be using Catscratch a lot, pump some Strength into him. If you're going to be using Shrapnel a lot, then pump some Magic into him.
I personally like using Gau, but I can understand why some people might not.
As for Setzer, I personally just enjoy throwing Fixed Dice and watching enemies crumble to the arts of gambling. Even if you don't want to expend an Offering on him, he's just as effective with DragoonBoots and Dragon Horn. Fixed Dice is really cracked.
Also, Umaro is also incapable of uncursing the Cursed Shield, by virtue of not being able to equip it on him in the first place. And fun fact: If you dive deeper and hacked into the game to make him equip the shield (or play a randomizer that lets him be equippable), he still wouldn't be able to uncurse the shield because he has the same properties as Gogo. So, yeah. Good to know.

Kinda random but I have a theory that Banon and Duncan are the same person. Duncan could be an alter-ego created to watch over Sabin after he fled to the mountains, perhaps a task that Edgar gave him.
The reasons I believe this because:
You never have access to both characters in the same timeline.
Sabin/Duncan's house (that has 3 beds, for Duncan, Vargas, and Sabin) is very close to the Returner's hideout.
You don't even see Duncan until the WoR, and Banon is nowhere to be found (No Returners either?)
Banon has curative powers like Sabin that do not use MP.
Same eye color and similar appearance.
The only thing that may not add up is the Vargas/Duncan incident and what happens at the Returner's Hideout, but if I remember correctly Banon and the party needed a rest, perhaps he was privately healing from what happened.

It could have worked in the original game but not anymore.
I mean they gave him the oracle class and the pray ability (the same ability rosa had in ff4) in later versions of the game
In the original game it was called health and it was pretty similar to the chakra ability from the MONK CLASS in ff4 and ff5.
But biggest problem is how could Banon go undercover and not get immediately recognized by Sabin even if amnesia is involved.
But this whole Duncan is dead shit is just plain weird at this point. I mean he never tells you about Vargas trying to kill him or anything.

I don't think anyone is arguing that Setzer is the main, since his contribution is essentially an airship. Edgar and Celes are both mandatory to finish the game with, and both have their stories closely tied with the main story of the game. Personally, I lean a little more Celes, due to her kind of being the POV character for WOR, but I could be swayed to Edgar.

I never really looked at anyone as a main in FF6. It was just a different game and group.
FF1 didn't have character development, but FF2 did. Both of these had multiple protagonists.
On others before, we saw definite main characters, like Cecil in FF4 and Bartz of FF5. Then later returning to a central character in FF7 with Cloud at the helm.
I always looked at FF6 as whichever character I put my name on is the main. However, then there's people who say Terra is the main of WOB, while Celes is (again) the main of WOR.
Even with all that said, I do feel the producers had Terra a lot more spotlighted if any one character was intended to to be the main.
The game starts with Terra, ends with her heritage saving thr group. Her ties to the esper world are important and leader Banon states she is their hope.

He is one of the best characters in the game with his jump being able to hit 8 times all for 9999 he can also be a good mage like the mages.
Gaus rages are op, dude has access to flare at an early place in the game. Not to mention cat scratch, mus ability, ninja scroll.
Umoroo or whatever is a good tank for mog. He should only be situational since hes immune to fire i think.
Shadow....there is a way to keep shadow in your party til the very end. He can hit 8 times with two daggers so if you have one say two assassin daggers you could just kill everyone in one shot. His ninja stars also hit a solid 9999 ignoring defense i think.
Locke.....without locke man you couldnt get some good weapons by stealing you'd have to get the Ragnarok summon. And without locke we wouldnt have the opera scene. So to put him that low story wise...thats just crazy.

This must have been tough. I'm taking availability and usefulness into account. I need to turn off my randomizer brain for a minute...
Terra: Immediately available. Best weapons. High magic. Loses a lot of mid game availability. Morph is very specific when you can use it well.
Celes: Available early on, mandated in World of Ruin. Best weapons. High magic. Runic is pretty bad outside of the Tunnel Armor fight, but you should be attacking with her anyway.
Locke: High and early availability, with many forced dungeons until World of Ruin. Fast, great weapons. Valiant Knife *drools*. lol magic.
Relm: Joins in Thamasa, WoR recruitment is pretty quick. Best mage in the game, bar none. Cat Hood for easy money. Sketch glitch???
Edgar: Joins early on. Mandated in World of Ruin. Tools will carry you through early & mid game. Late game he becomes a dragoon or wields big swords. Figabro.
Sabin: Joins early on. Not mandated in World of Ruin but you have to purposely avoid him to do it. Blitz is useful until late game, then you get Phantom Rush and life is good again. Equipment pool sucks. Figabro.
Shadow: Availability is hit-or-miss (you did wait for him, right?) Throw is busted strong throughout the entire game. Instakill knives are nice when you need 'em.
Mog: Start the Lone Wolf chase and choose him or lose him. Easy to recruit in the World of Ruin after getting your airship. Great with magic, great dragoon.
Setzer: He's playable starting from the Crane fight. Mandatory World of Ruin character. If you don't know how Joker Doom works, he's OK. Everything is random about him, makes sense as he's a gambler. But you want more reliable people.
Gau: Available early on. Easy recruit in World of Ruin once you get the Airship. Requires encyclopedic knowledge of the Rage system to utilize properly, and it's only worth it 50% of the time. Then again Catscratch is all you need, MEOW!
Gogo: Gogo's stats suck, but Blitz/Magic/Throw is probably all you need. Or crack an elemental rod and let Gogo mimic it to eternity. Super late game.
Cyan: Angry Samurai Dad is sloooooow and has bad magic, in a game where fast magic casting will carry you through. Bushido gives him 8 slow casting abilities, while SwdTech keeps your team unable to act as he's charging. Too slow to use his later abilities, although #4 is mostly all you need.
Umaro: Yeti is besti. Except for his availability, World of Ruin and locked behind Mog. And his controlability, he's always berserked. But at this point you just need someone to hold A and punch things, and Umaro's got that on lock down. Snow Muffler/Scarf means he's never taking physical or ice damage. Easy access to autohit defense ignoring attacks. Rage Ring wakes up sleeping/confused characters.

In my early playthroughs of the game back in the 90s, I used to use a lot of the more exotic characters and abilities a lot more, like Setzer's Slots, Mog's Dance, Cyan's SwdTech, Gogo's Mimic (didn't know about the selectable skills until later), Shadow's Throw, and Gau's Rage. But as time went on and I learned more about the game's mechanics -- particularly the bugged Magic Evasion stat and the equipment that enhances it -- I just stuck with Terra/Celes/Edgar/Sabin as much as possible. They have some of the best equipment, some of the best starting MagPwr stats for Terra and Celes, the free and game-wrecking Tools/Blitz for the Figaro brothers (which can be enhanced by boosting their MagPwr), and are widely available throughout most of the game. For me, Locke fills in during Zozo and Sealed Cave since he gets forced in after those areas, Setzer gets some grinding ahead of Daryl's Tomb, and everyone else gets just enough training to pull their weight in Kefka's Tower.
Maybe the game creators knew that Terra/Celes/Edgar/Sabin was overpowered, since they don't let you use that party in any plot-relevant, normal-combat areas until the escape from the Floating Continent.

Some characters do have some niche uses even if they aren't that great a choice for your main party. I like to use Locke as my Colosseum fighter. I make sure not to teach him any magic, and equip him with the Thief Glove, Offering, and the Atma Weapon. This way he will always do 4 attacks and wont do anything randomly. You can give him good speed by equipping Odin before leveling up, just be careful not to learn Meteor by forgetting to take it off!

  • @caetanolunardi3429

Not a bad list. My only problem with it is that you didn't consider exclusive weapons and equips in the list. For example, Terra and Celes can equip the best armor (minerva) and the best weapon (ragnarok / lightbringer).
For a casual play, the list is very accurate, except fot Setzer and Gogo. Gogo is hard to find if you don't know the game and even harder to use effectively because of its atrocius bad equips and stats. Setzer is just an rng joke and I don't know any casual player that liked to play with Slots or the bad GP Toss.

    • @Bdewd
      @Bdewd  9 месяцев назад +1

Merit award exists which makes the gear thing *sorta* moot in some circumstances. And the setzer thing is a split due to some versions allowing you to manip the slots and some you can't.

      @caetanolunardi3429 9 месяцев назад

@@Bdewd I concour with the Merit Award and slot manips if your list only consider the snes version (ps1 version Gau can't use Merit Award, and in any other version neither can Gogo). But as an counter argument Merit Award is an secret WoR iten and not something a casual player will get. Same with Slot manips but i concour that 7 flush, chocobop amd airship (outside of snes version) are very easy to get.

Oy. After so many lists, you'd think you'd really know this game. Gau is embarrassingly low here, as he's ridiculously OP'd, especially early on. If you grab Stray Cat (Cait Sith) early on, you will obliterate all foes with one attack. Level up Locke's attack power and keep him with top weapons and a Gengi Glove.

@@csmith3248 generally I hit the Veldt for Esper training/Morph charging so I can focus on stat management in other areas where I can get EXP. I typically give Gau, Mog, and Edgar Magic as a safety net in case Mog's Dance fails repeatedly or physical attacks with Gau get countered easily. The Rages are a extra benefit since once Gau learns offensive Magic, I don't use Rage as much. My best early Rage combo, Crasshopper + Templar, is easily replaced with out of battle Float casting and summoning Ifrit and Golem.
Typically when I get Ramuh/Siren/Kirin/Cait Sith, I give Celes Ramuh to learn Thundara and Poison, Locke gets Siren for the HP +10% for later Ultima Weapon slinging, Kirin goes to Sabin since Mantra isn't available yet (yes, I find the worst Blitz actually quite useful until White Wind is learned) and Edgar gets Cait Sith for a slight humor factor but also the +1 Magic for later with learning the level 2 and level 3 spells.

  • @BDtetra

Gau being "decent in challenge runs" is a severe understatement.
He is by far the most powerful and useful character (and its not even remotely close) in Low Level runs, and to be completely honest I don't even think Minimum Level runs (for the purposes of both "perfect save" runs and "sub 90 total party level setup" where you keep everybody at lvl 6-7 and Gau at lv16-17) would even be possible without Gau carrying you through Num128 and Airforce fights, by far the most brutal fights pre WoR in a LL Run.
Not only that but the fact that Gau can soak Exp alone and be removed from the party pre Floating Continent by Leaping into one and only picking him up post WoR allows you to de-level your average party level which is extremely useful for both generic "low level challenge" and "prefect save" runs. Not to mention the extremely interesting routing where you go through the Sabin's entire journey again with a full party for the purposes of leaving Gau at the Velts.
He is the first to learn extremely useful abilities like Gigavolt(Thundaga), Aquabreath, and Reraise, all pre Floating Continent. He is just generally a very fun character to play with if you are doing a low level run in general, doesn't even have to be minimum level runs. I highly suggest you try it out, you'll definitely have a blast.
