FF4 is such an amazing game. It remains one of my favorite games ever and I personally think it's the best of the old 2D FF games. It's actually second best, behind 7 of course, out of all FF games in my opinion.
@@thomasharvey1151 yea it was the game that got me into FF so I may be a bit biased lol but the music alone tells the story it's so good. None of the others really hit like that for me.
@@Rezo2486 Absolutely. This is the one that holds the special place in the heart for me. The over world theme in 4 is my all time favorite piece of gaming music. Has been so since I first heard it in 91. Into the Darkness is my second favorite music of all time.
I have such nostalgic love for Final Fantasy IV. 4 was always my favorite. I eventually got the Snes version later in life but I had a friend in elementary school who found a GBA cartridge of FF4 on the ground and gave it to me. That was my first introduction. Then I also managed to get both DS and Psp versions... I could buy 4 again now if not all 6.
Price is great, considering a bundle cost equates to $12.50 per, which is an insane deal given the value of any of these games and the quality of all the work put in (especially the music). I’ve played through every game in the series already, but decided on the buildup to 16, I’d celebrate by playing through each entry in order with this. I love the brevity of the NES games, and am now halfway through 4 (an absolute favorite). The convenience of these all being on the switch is terrific, especially because I can mindlessly do the sped up grind at work and then enjoy some of the finer details by the time I get home. Excellent video, too, and I can’t to hear more of your thoughts as they come!
RUclips is still processing the cut for this one. Sorry y’all, I was trying to fix this in the middle of a podcast that I couldn’t stop, so it falls to me. Not sure how the screeches happened cause they weren’t in the editing software when I checked, but they’re being removed.
Considering the last remaster for any major JRPG was Tales of Symphonia: Remastered. I say the price worth what you get, especially when they actually added some QoL features.
I got the play Asia version for 5% off along with a cheaper version of ghost trick. For me it worked out - plus I like having physical. If it were any other franchise I’d definitely not be spending this much lmao
For me, the golden era was FF6 through FFX. That's the best era for story telling, combined with that being the pinnacle of turn based combat. They really seemed to hit their stride there. The new games are nice, but the stories feel weaker and the combat is much more generic. It's very similar to Zelda. BotW and TotK look and play amazing, but I walk away not feeling like I played a Zelda game. I love the new FF remakes, but I walk away with this strong urge to play a "real" FF game.
The Switch installs 6 separate games. I wish they were actually in a collection like TMnT or Castlevania collections. Even the physical deluxe boxed set is a combo box of separately sold items. They even have barcodes on each item. Meaning somewhere each item is available outside of this „set“.
My knowledge of final fantasy's a bit limited but Did I catch it right that the recommendation is to play "strangers of Paradise" before starting final fantasy 1? So far the only final fantasy I've ever played in fully completed was final fantasy 7. This has been on my radar once it was announced, seems like a great way to get into the series.
Some patches I’d like to see on console version are a third option for “BGM Type”, which is “Old Arrangement”, that is the soundtrack arrangement from PSOne versions of Final Fantasy I and II, the arrangement from the 2006 3D remake of Final Fantasy III, and the one from the 2007 3D remake of Final Fantasy IV. For “Font Style”, I’d like a serif variant of “Modernized” and “Classic.” When you switch the language to Japanese and the font style to Classic, the “Now Loading” message appears in a pixel serif font, hence the new options “Modernized Serif” and “Classic Serif.”
Some might complain that Square-Enix rereleased the games multiple times but I'm thankful that I can play FF 1 - 12 (minus 11) all on the Switch and I don't have to bother to get the versions of older systems. It's also a big plus that Square Enix localized these games in so many languages. If you don't speak english or japanese your only options were the mobile versions or the PC. My friends don't speak english well and they missed out on most of these games and now they can experience them on a home console on TV.
I'm not understanding the big deal with the font. I didn't notice the font being an eyesore when I fired it up the first time. Fans are definitely nitpicky on that one. But hey to each their own
9:05 That's how I feel! I did not grow up with FF and want to know why they're so beloved since I have zero nostalgia for the series, and I played FF7 last year for about 12 hours and HATED the ATB combat. Could not continue. And it soured me on the whole series since I know most of them have that combat. So I can only assume the stories must be fantastic. After hearing all these QoL improvements, I might try a Pixel Remaster
I hated the ATB in ff7 as well, then I decided to play the older games from 1, which doesn't have ATB, and now I've played all the games up until 7 and I can say they're all great, except for 6 which imo went bad on the second half of the game.
FFX is a good place to start if you hate ATB. It's the first "modern" game in the series with voice acting and decent visuals. It's the last turn based game in the franchise as well so it's the best version of that battle system available.
You do realized that you can switch the ATB into Turn-Based right? I swear people love to bitching on something without actually looking at the Options to tweak the battle system.
@@Enzed_ Timer? You mean your meter? That doesn't mean shit if you don't pick any action. Everyone will still waiting for you to pick your move like how Turn-Based is. lmao Good job for proving my point.
Yeah... outside a few stuff like the price, is a nice bundle overall, of course you can debate what version is the definitive one of each game (like in my case I still consider the PSP version for IV as the definitive one for that specific game) but if we axe the extra stuff that some of those releases had and go as much vanilla as possible with the games, the Pixel Remaster are really good overall... a funny thing is that the retro OST wasn't initially a thing with the Pixel Remaster, but once the first print of the physical releases got released, those had already pre-installed the update that added the retro OST, is curious that just like the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collections (which I call them Mega Man Legacy Collection Vol. 6 and 7... like if it was as a whole for the franchise instead of sub-series split), on Ps4 you have to install the games first, on switch all 6 games just pop-out in the home menu with instant access to the games. One thing for sure, the collection is the only way to experience as vanilla as possible Final Fantasy 3 outside Japan in an official way (as when we got FF3 for the first time officially was the remade 3D version on NDS... which years later got ported to PSP), heck, I wouldn't mind to double dip for the Switch release to be honest as while they lack the stuff they got in other ports like GBA and PSP, the games are still as great as their 8 and 16-bit good old days. If you ask my favorite games of the collection are 4 and 6 (probably with 6 is too obvious for a choice of favorite, but 4 in my case... it was the very 1st FF game I played back around in 2000 when it was re-released on Ps1 in a bundle with Chrono Trigger (in USA, in Europe I don't know how it was released on Ps1) as it was the 2nd RPG I played, the 1st one being the original version of Super Mario RPG).
Started with 2 & 3 on SNES (4 & 6), Just ordered the Switch all-on-one cart. 'Encounter off' great for LLGs, waiting to grind until events or level buffs available, those horrible encounter rates in 1 & 2, etc.
75 seems too high for a collection of games that are decades old I'd still be iffy even at $60 The only way 75 really seems worth it is if they included some of the other games in the collection like 7-9 at least since you have to install the games separately anyway. I get that doesn't fit with the "pixel" theme but for $75 it seems like it could go for some extra value or just lower the price. I say that having just pre ordered MMBN collection
I’m playing 4,5 and 6 for the first time since I’ve heard great things about them and I’ve only played 7,14,10,9,7 remake, and crisis core before and my favorite so far is 9 by far but we will see if 4,5 or 6 beat 9 for me
Considering I payed $69.99 for the original SNES IV and VI, 49.99 for the DS remake of III, as well as 39.99 for the PS1 Origins (I & II)......price is not bad.
Ahhhh the good ol days....I was there for the first, and I've played em all since....I remember late nights "grinding" the original game on NES, long before "grinding" became a thing.
Great video! Thanks for all the information. I totally don't get why you're so against the price, though. You seem to be fine with buying them individually and if you do that with all of them you'll pay around $20 more than if you just buy the bundle. It's a really solid discount to get them all together at once, basically netting you one of III-VI for free.
Despite the new font style, the games are difficult to play on the Switch in handheld mode because the font is too small. This is especially true when playing on the Switch Lite being almost unplayable. I hope they patch this 😢
I had the $300 NTSC collectors edition preordered but got cold feet then just ordered one from playasia lol. FF4 and FF6 are my favorites. But unfortunate the pixel remasters don’t have all the content like with FF4 and FF3 even has a 3d remake. There’s also FF1 &2 20th anniversary. The PR have the best QoL changes tho
I played FF1 and FF6 pixel remasters on PC and I loved them. It was my first time with each. Having the modern quality of life improvements, like being able to save whenever, auto-saves, and the maps made it such a smooth experience. The updated graphics are well done, modernized but still retaining the classic look. The biggest thing might actually be the new orchestral music, it really goes a long way towards making these old games feel EPIC and important. I'm probably going to pick up FF5 on Switch so I can grind some levels on the go, seems like a good one for that with the whole Job system.
Too rich for your blood? If you buy the bundle, you save $20 over buying them individually. That's basically like buying 4.5 of the games and getting 1.5 of them free. I don't think you'll get a better deal than that considering I have never seen the bundle go on sale on Steam, only the individual games will and added up they always equal the bundle price. I think you should rephrase saying $75 to drop at once is too much for you, cause the bundle is a deal.
honestly a great collection of old final fantasy games, and I'm so glad they're being preserved in this manner. also wow, the video said "One month ago" when I saw it in my recommended feed, but "two months ago" in the description and top comments. I wonder if I clicked on it EXACTLY when the two month milestone was hit lmao
FF7 made me a fan of the series and never got around to FF6 properly until recently with the pixel remaster. I can see why now 6 is herald as one of the greats. 6 and 7 are very similar to each other. It would be cool to get 6 remake treatment like 7 did.

This is a good purchase for me cause I never played these or 7,8, and 9. Only played x,x-2 and 12. So I’m excited to see how the series grew and got better.
Fake ff fan
@@BankaiFever Imagine gatekeeping FF of all things lmfao
"got better" lol
@@tveye363 I mean I’m enjoying 1 rn but 12 which I’ve played before is infinitely better so yes. I am going to see how this series got better over time
7 and 8 are very good. A lot of people like 9 too but I haven't beaten it yet. Didn't like the chibi looking characters.
My ears have been hurting me lately and 3:36 completely wrecked them! That hurt so damn bad!
Thank god I love your content Matty so I’ll forgive you.
that was my line of thinking too, instead of getting the bundle just get a few to start with or just start with one and add the other titles to your collection over time if you enjoy them. :)
FF4 is such an amazing game. It remains one of my favorite games ever and I personally think it's the best of the old 2D FF games. It's actually second best, behind 7 of course, out of all FF games in my opinion.
FF4 really is. That’s the game that solidified my interest in FF and RPGs back in 91. I’m playing that one right now. Lol
This is gonna rock! I have my physical copy on the way.
Jumpscare at 3:35
Bro I was prepared and I STILL JUMPED/
Wtf. I was about to skip to that point to see but before I could it went over it. I jumped
RUclips is still processing the cut for this one. Sorry y’all, I was trying to fix this in the middle of a podcast that I couldn’t stop, so it falls to me. Not sure how the screeches happened cause they weren’t in the editing software when I checked, but they’re being removed.
Auto saves, fast forward features and mini maps 👌more than welcome. And turning off encounters.
Still keeping my fingers crossed for a Golden Sun Remastered at some point..
Your first upload of this before you took it down made me jump so bad i threw my drink into the wall, shattering the glass. Wtf happened to the sound
You can literally play FF6 on auto combat in this new iteration so I don't see much of a difference
Ff7 remake is trash…. They should’ve kept it turn based….
@@SauceCrusader-kr9hu no, you're wrong
@@leob4403 yea complete utter trash. Much like your opinion
@@SauceCrusader-kr9hu go watch some marvel movies little baby
The 3:41 second jump scare noise got me to jump out my seat omg 😂😭 but great review I can’t wait to download it when I get home tonight
The Switch installs 6 separate games. I wish they were actually in a collection like TMnT or Castlevania collections. Even the physical deluxe boxed set is a combo box of separately sold items. They even have barcodes on each item. Meaning somewhere each item is available outside of this „set“.
Looking forward to this. I played 1, 2 and 5 so I’m looking forward to 3,4 and 6. Great vid
3:50 that sound scared the crap out of me
My speakers were loud
Uhh it came out on steam with the cellphone release so we just ignore that information ? Lack of research is sad
dude 3:35 scared the SHIT OUT OF ME I WAS JUST EATING WTFFFFFFFFFF
I cussed wtf
Some might complain that Square-Enix rereleased the games multiple times but I'm thankful that I can play FF 1 - 12 (minus 11) all on the Switch and I don't have to bother to get the versions of older systems. It's also a big plus that Square Enix localized these games in so many languages. If you don't speak english or japanese your only options were the mobile versions or the PC. My friends don't speak english well and they missed out on most of these games and now they can experience them on a home console on TV.
I wanted the physical copy but it sold out in the middle of the night right after it was announced
Of course the games have separate trophies? How else could you buy the games independently and not in bundle?
I'd like to see a full fledged FFIV review when you finish it.
@@zeroskaterz92 setting it to wait doesn't change it to proper turn based. There's still a timer involved.
@@Enzed_ Timer? You mean your meter? That doesn't mean shit if you don't pick any action. Everyone will still waiting for you to pick your move like how Turn-Based is. lmao
Good job for proving my point.
Yeah... outside a few stuff like the price, is a nice bundle overall, of course you can debate what version is the definitive one of each game (like in my case I still consider the PSP version for IV as the definitive one for that specific game) but if we axe the extra stuff that some of those releases had and go as much vanilla as possible with the games, the Pixel Remaster are really good overall... a funny thing is that the retro OST wasn't initially a thing with the Pixel Remaster, but once the first print of the physical releases got released, those had already pre-installed the update that added the retro OST, is curious that just like the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collections (which I call them Mega Man Legacy Collection Vol. 6 and 7... like if it was as a whole for the franchise instead of sub-series split), on Ps4 you have to install the games first, on switch all 6 games just pop-out in the home menu with instant access to the games.
For FF fans that love turn-based games, this is your chance to show that the kind of titles can really sell well, along with Octopath Traveler 2.
I've played 7, 10 and 13 extensively as well as once through 9 most of the way. Where should I go next?
I’ve never played any of these. Wild to think you can play 1-8 with two switch game cartridges. Going to have to get them both
Matty love you but can you give longer form videos for retro rebound? Some of your 30 min plus ones are my favorite
Started with 2 & 3 on SNES (4 & 6), Just ordered the Switch all-on-one cart.
'Encounter off' great for LLGs, waiting to grind until events or level buffs available, those horrible encounter rates in 1 & 2, etc.
75 seems too high for a collection of games that are decades old
I'd still be iffy even at $60
The only way 75 really seems worth it is if they included some of the other games in the collection like 7-9 at least since you have to install the games separately anyway.
I get that doesn't fit with the "pixel" theme but for $75 it seems like it could go for some extra value or just lower the price.
I say that having just pre ordered MMBN collection
Well, square Enix is known to sell their games overpriced. Ff8 on steam is around $10 on a sale.
So does the FF4 Pixel Remaster have the after years and the interlude stories from the PSP version?
In FF6, Wait to use the exp multiplier til you have magicite
Some of the espers increase stats so you can buff your characters more
THIS! Yes! :)
I’m playing 4,5 and 6 for the first time since I’ve heard great things about them and I’ve only played 7,14,10,9,7 remake, and crisis core before and my favorite so far is 9 by far but we will see if 4,5 or 6 beat 9 for me
Man FF9 was so freaking amazing
Considering I payed $69.99 for the original SNES IV and VI, 49.99 for the DS remake of III, as well as 39.99 for the PS1 Origins (I & II)......price is not bad.
Still debating if I should open my physical copy or not lol.
the audio issue lowkey got me. thought my laptops fan bursted or sm lol
I've played after years, but haven't played the interlude. I played AY on WII, and as far as I know, interlude is exclusive to that PSP port!!
Ahhhh the good ol days....I was there for the first, and I've played em all since....I remember late nights "grinding" the original game on NES, long before "grinding" became a thing.
I'm happy they finally released them on console.. but I already bought FFVI on mobile thinking it would have controller support and.. nope.
I’ve never played a final fantasy before. Would this be the best play to start or should I get a different one
The anthology for PSP is technically 3 games although the length of Interlude is more like playing a demo.
Home screen clutter shouldn't be an issue since you could just make a folder called "FF" and put all the games there... Oh wait 😅
damn jumpscare with that audio issue ! I almost pooped my pants!
U can pre order ur physical copy now.. re releases on October 8, 2024.. ps4 and switch $75.. got mine at Walmart
I guess I’m old but I like the turn based fighting way more than that action based fighting in the new final fantasy games.
Sounds like how I played dq11 - get the speed up and auto battle until boss fights and then actually work the strat to kill the boss.
It’s about as much of a deal to me as a Nintendo first party game going on a sale of $54.99.
The SNES games are great but the NES ‘create your own party’ ones will always be my favorite
Wish you had the link for the ff6 retrospective somewhere
Anyone know if they added the cgi cutscenese to the later games? I can't seem to find that info anywhere
They did not.
If i buy the digital version, can i upload that save file on the physical version when it comes?
Got jumpscared at 4 am with that screech noise at 3:36 lmao
Every time Matty says “In today’s video!” I hear Cog gets buffer 😳
Is this any different than the versions on Steam?
i was so pissed i could not get a physical copy of this bundle. it disappeared instantly when i tried to buy it
I’ll wait for a big sale. $75 is definitely a bit much imo.
Is there an option to switch between old and new graphics?
The price is the only thing stopping me from buying the collection. Hopefully it goes on sale at some point. Surprised it hasn’t yet, tbh.
honestly a great collection of old final fantasy games, and I'm so glad they're being preserved in this manner.
also wow, the video said "One month ago" when I saw it in my recommended feed, but "two months ago" in the description and top comments. I wonder if I clicked on it EXACTLY when the two month milestone was hit lmao
Glad you're enjoying FFIV. It's my personal favorite in the series.
75 bucks for the digital version is bad enough. I paid 120 bucks for the physical edition via playasia (delivery and VAT included).
FF7 made me a fan of the series and never got around to FF6 properly until recently with the pixel remaster. I can see why now 6 is herald as one of the greats. 6 and 7 are very similar to each other. It would be cool to get 6 remake treatment like 7 did.
Still a screech at 3:37 lol it is 2am for me rn and It scared the blue out of my jeans. That’s for the video though
I have the original nes ff1 and when i played strangers of paradise, going back to that origin story was great, but i wish it was more like a regular final fantasy game.
From this list I have never finish 2,3,5 and 6. FF IV complete collection is perfection.
Nice jump scare at about 3:34 😂
