The biggest mistake i made was that i used defender gear when starting out. I didnt realize the point of the game, since you'd just plow through everything and you could ignore most mechanics. When i stopped wearing it, oh boy, the game started being real fun. Having to dodge and perfectly time attacks to stun enemies, amazing combat and progression systems.
I used the defender gear when I started as it was my first game, but I have since played other games, learned major mechanics and have beaten most monsters in master rank (last one to hunt is lavasioth funnily enough) mainly in duo hunts with a friend.

I do the same thing. Over 2200 hours on PlayStation and every time I boot the game up now I go straight to SoS response. After 8 different characters I know how difficult some hunts can be and how frustrating it can get when no one helps you. I once found someone fighting HR Kushala, 23 minutes in, had no help, and already carted twice. That's what I look for. People who genuinely need the help because I don't want them to give up and quit.

I tried my best to get them but I honestly gave up cus I wasn't having fun and I reached the conclusion that it wasn't worth it.
I'm going for both platinums on mine. The crowns arent that hard to get. There's literally Event quests that crank the crown chances through the roof, and a handful of others that are garunteed crowns.
Just watched the MH movie and didn't realize there was a game. Stumbled across this so this is for the ally 💜 Appreciate you taking the time to make this
Unfortunately I haven’t gotten around to downloading the game yet, but it’s definitely looking like a hand full. Yes ! Its a whole movie and it’s actually kinda good. It stars the woman who was in all the Resident Evil movies

Just downloaded the game again with the expansion, do vetrans recommend staring a new character to get back into the swing of things or use the one I beat the base with once? Happy hunting

Wooooooo am the 2000th likes. Also great video, am a new player to MHW as from yesterday and had been playing on freedom unite 2. Your video helped me understand a bit of the roadmap that awaits me. Thank you for that
Yeah, don't use Defender gear. It basically brute forces you through base game. You don't learn how to play since you just tank most hits and kill monsters quickly with basic attack spam.
Ok, I really don't want to be rude because I know a video like this is incredibly difficult to make, but as someone who has clocked over 2200 hours across 8 different characters, looking at it from the perspective of a new player, I wouldn't have any better of an idea of what to do or, more importantly, how. What's here isn't bad, or even wrong necessarily, but it does seem to lack a lot of important, easy to understand and follow, detail.
This is not a hack and slash tho. It requires timing and learning the monsters, plus knowing your weapon. You can't just go and smash buttons because you'll have a bad time.
@Grant Todd Kinda, but a bit more complex, s are smaller, it's more vertical overall (jumping attacks. mounting, aerial monsters, maps) the combat may feel a bit clunky at first but once you become better it gets much more fluid. Fights are longer too, some fights may take you up to 20-30 min but if played correctly you can finish wayy faster. Compared to dark souls i'd say it's easier with the only exception of fatalis and alatreon, but if you don't invest the time and effort on learning the game mechanics it can get very frustrating.
235k views and none these folks subbed. i wasn't sure when i needed to swap from the gifted gear thats catch up loot. sounds like i can get to the expac without too much grinding. thanks for the info and i'll be back hopefully if i get the new game :)

One massive thing as well when googling builds for ideas and tips. Do NOT use speed runners builds they will get you killed and you won't have fun. They build max dps and no survivability meaning you will more than likely be a liability. Survivability matters and is 10000% valid and important.
Ignore this comment. You can literally just take off the lowest dps increasing skills and sub them out for vitality decorations. If you still need more survivability, sub out the next least impacting EFR (effective raw) boosting skills for divine blessing. Defense boost 7 is trash. Do not use. You get less survivability per point than you get from running 3 health boost and 3 divine blessing. You also can use fortify in the remaining slot which is arguably better than divine blessing for newer players. The only counterarguement is using hard defense boost, but even then, it really isn't worth it over divine blessing lv1.
@@bluevenom50 no, I'm saying giving the advice to ignore speed runner builds is dumb. Even for casual players, the smartest way to learn to build effectively is to work backwards from the ideal starting point. That way you can effectively sub out for a build more suited to you. If you ignore strong builds, people end up investing into defense 7 and somehow thinking its effective when in most sets its about a 10% effective hp increase.
@@bluevenom50 I'm just trying to make sure people do not end up with misinformation. The amount of people that end up misunderstanding info or lacking any kind of knowledge is absolutely absurd in this game. Speed runs are a good sample group to learn from though, but often times casual players disregard or try to demirit skilled runs completely or spread incorrect information based on no concrete evidence and head canon.
its been a couple years i was so into this game. i played during a painful time of mourning, returning during another time of mourning. Anyway, I hope i cam get back into it because I can't remember much on how to play 😢
Can I just point out how he makes a statement how builds don't matter that much as he's using a dragon PEP CB on Rajang lol. For anyone that doesn't get the context, Rajang has a dragon hzv of 0. PEP CB phials are pure elemental in damage type so any time you hit with an amped combo or saed, the phial and elemental damage is multiplied by 0. Not an insult, just found it kinda hilarious.
Depends on how quickly you learn. If you do any amount of research into hitzone values, motion value, and EFR or just watch one decent Calc video, the game is arguably easier in solo than groups. This is mainly due to how the trip mechanic works in multiplayer. Trips are significantly easier to chain in solo as you can soften the body part that causes trips and effectively prevent most of the more chaotic monsters from getting an opportunity to do much. This is true even in master rank. Take this with a grain of salt as this is coming from the perspective of well over 10k hours and formerly a speed runner. SOS responders are also a mix bag. Some will be good, others are retarded.
Ive had the game for some time but barely scratched the surface, i dont know if i should start completely new or try to make prgress with what i have blind

It is a really good game. The animations and weapon combos are smooth. As a sort of veteran player myself, I will say grinding is needed and I mean a lot. I will ignore the defender set that iceborne give out (If you have the DLC). So you will have the chances to learn in the early game rather breezing through with defender. Anyways, have fun with the game :) Hope to see you in the hunting ground !
I'm a return player haven't played in 2 years, and have forgot a few things. I completed a mission for serious handler and it said I have new gear. Where do I find this new gear? It was the behemoth mission.
Probably late but it’s the safi’jiva charge blade looks like the poison one and it has impact phials The way you get safi weapons is through a limited siege mission then you need to break parts and kill safi, then you will get a ! at the arena or hub lass(I can’t remember) girls and you are able to chose between 3-4 weapons which are all random. You are Guaranteed at least 1 weapon that matches your equipped weapon however, the safi weapons alone aren’t the greatest you use the things you get at the end of the siege to upgrade it.

I'm going for both platinums on mine. The crowns arent that hard to get. There's literally Event quests that crank the crown chances through the roof, and a handful of others that are garunteed crowns.
Bloodborne got me into games like this so I started out with the Long Sword and just absolutely LOVED the speed it granted me
Just watched the MH movie and didn't realize there was a game. Stumbled across this so this is for the ally 💜 Appreciate you taking the time to make this
how you like the game
There's a movie about this game??
Unfortunately I haven’t gotten around to downloading the game yet, but it’s definitely looking like a hand full. Yes ! Its a whole movie and it’s actually kinda good. It stars the woman who was in all the Resident Evil movies
@@physicsbey7736 not hating but the playerbase hates this movie because it literally trashes everything this game is.
@@sasagurayolol1013 It just might be the best thing the movie gave us. Another player. That alone almost justifies its existance
Watching this video a year later really helps, especially after excessively using the defender gear(I just put it down and I'm about to look for negigante).
Ok honestly, you should be the last person to give tips or even discourage people from playing Charge Blade, when you show like 4 minutes of gameplay without anything being charged. Axe, Sword, Shield. It's all grey, yeah no wonder you think the weapon is difficult lol.
Just got gamepass 2 days ago and saw this game on there. Played a monster Hunter game a long time ago but I didn’t get very far. Gonna give this a try
yo homie if you play on ps4 let me know i can help you thur the game
Just downloaded the game again with the expansion, do vetrans recommend staring a new character to get back into the swing of things or use the one I beat the base with once? Happy hunting
just started PC version today omg what a difference I feel it is more challenging on pc than PS4 i had 5800 hours on PS4
I switched to pc too, the load times are so much quicker. Although sometimes the game crashes with a wierd fatal error but only seems to do that in Astera and not very often thankfully
@@razordragon7800 hm I'm playing on PS5 and the load times are almost instant. Have an additional nvme drive on my PS5
Thanks for the guide!
I wanted to buy it but did not know what I would be getting into so this is great.
yo homie if you play on ps4 let me know i can help you thur the game.
Thanks for review downloading now...new sub keep it up.👍
Had it on ps4 but I'm converting to the pc master race full time lol. Downloading it right now. I gotta really love a game up end up owning it twice lol
Thanks pal for this good shit,,i've been playin about 3 days ago,,and killed my first elder Nergi and its verry hard to figure a lot monster guide,,build etc,,verry helpfull
By far my favorite thing about yt is supporting smaller channels
Such a high quality video, im suprised it dosent have more views
Ahhh Kirn the unicorn that likes to juggle your squad lol
I thought I was the only one that likes to use the pukie pukie armor
Pukie pukie armor is The BEST
Pukei-Pukei armor is STYLISH!
Tempted to use nothing else except that, since I don't see any other armor that makes me look like an assassin/ninja.
Really like your Video!! Well Done!!
Wooooooo am the 2000th likes.
Also great video, am a new player to MHW as from yesterday and had been playing on freedom unite 2. Your video helped me understand a bit of the roadmap that awaits me.
Thank you for that
Weird thing...... nearing the end of the video, got a heavy dose of nostalgia from the Music of pokko village.
Yeah, don't use Defender gear. It basically brute forces you through base game.
You don't learn how to play since you just tank most hits and kill monsters quickly with basic attack spam.
Thanks a bunch. Got the game for free and want to give it a try.
Great vid. Nice tips
Thank you for all your help
The pokke pokke theme😭❤️
bro… when it started it took me back. I remember playing da heck outve MH freedom/unite. Good times good times
If you're new, ALWAYS SOS missions. People always come.
do they? thats great ill have to get the game again on pc thats why i stopped playing on xbox i could never find anyone
@@topg9028
Can't say for Xbox but they do on PS4. So I'm sure they would on Xbox.
Good guide and I appreciate it
@Verumbra :"If you're new.... Stay away from the Charge Blade and Heavy Bowgun..."
Literally my two weapons I'm completely new 🤣
Tbf the defender armor is pretty much early high rank stuff. The defender weapons are what's really broken op.
Looks like fun. I love explorational hack and slash action rpgs, and this looks gorgeous.
It's brutal lol
Great guide my dude
Starting with a friend, been a long time. Nice video
235k views and none these folks subbed. i wasn't sure when i needed to swap from the gifted gear thats catch up loot. sounds like i can get to the expac without too much grinding. thanks for the info and i'll be back hopefully if i get the new game :)
That's NOT a beginners guide, that's "how to rush to Iceborne DLC" guide.
1400 hours here. I love this game. Very very underrated
I played till guiding lands and now I'm restarting after over a year
You skipped over the tutorial and I can't figure what that button on the left is because my mouse doesn't have it.
Damn I love the spear good damage and high défence and mobility !
Lance you mean?
Lance is fun. Everyone says it has the worst DPS, but maybe they're just playing it wrong?
I agree, i just bought the game and thought ill go heavy bowgun. And it really is no joke lol takes forever to kill so i found it easier just to level up sword to go through the game so i can famr heavy bow whenever i reach endgame
I've never played a monster hunter game, should i buy it?
Yes I just started its a bit slow bc of the cutscenes but definitely worth it imo
Absolutely in my opinion, I tried multiple of my friends to play and it was half and half for them since they weren’t initially interested but some were and they loved it. This game turned out to be my favorite game of all time bc of my one friend who didn’t spoil a thing and it turned out to be a blast.
Without a doubt, it’s an amazing game and I’ve played through 3 times on new characters but the beginning is pretty slow and can get boring but I recommend you get the vitality mantle as soon as you can unlike when I did because it’s very useful
Fuck yes
I’m Ngl I’m not into games like this but my bro pmo and it’s been a fun ass experience highly recommend it
Coming back after a year or few havent played since ROOCCKKKETTT POOOWWWERRRREEEDDDD GREEATTTT SWOOORRRD this is perfect for me especially starting a new save
played it for 2 weeks.
just played mh stories 2 and mhrise in switch never tried monster hunter before. but this game is awesome i dont know if there's anyone else playing it until now
i have around 400 Hours in MHW but i forget why i stopped playing when fatalis released (i think i stopped because i cant kill alatreon) but yesterday i started playing again and was killed buy a rajang (im a LS user) i think i have forgotten how to play and now i dont know what to do, do i have to create now char and play from the beginning again?
I’m just honestly having trouble, I’m following the quests and everything, But the monsters seem like I’m still low HR, Yeah I’m HR 12, I’m where I have to Kill the Pink Rathian, And I’m just honestly getting like 2 tapped, so I just need help getting stronger HR wise, Any tips man?
@@ChargePartition soooo what you're saying is don't use speed runners builds lol
@@ChargePartition but I didn't say ignore I said don't use. Because they don't build survivability :/
@@bluevenom50 I'm just trying to make sure people do not end up with misinformation. The amount of people that end up misunderstanding info or lacking any kind of knowledge is absolutely absurd in this game. Speed runs are a good sample group to learn from though, but often times casual players disregard or try to demirit skilled runs completely or spread incorrect information based on no concrete evidence and head canon.
you gotta new sub pimp
keep up the good shit
lol make that 2
Reinstalling now and can’t wait to hop in again
Dope video bro
Basically I got a new ps4 and have to restart again from my 600hr account but loved this game and used to make so much content for it
its been a couple years i was so into this game. i played during a painful time of mourning, returning during another time of mourning.
Is the whole game soloable? Or do you absolutely need groups later on?
You can solo the whole game it’s just harder which is good
Depends on how quickly you learn.
People are still playing this game on ps4/5. I have no problem to find people to play with.
thank you so much for the guide, I really needed this
I loved this game when came out haven't played it in while this video is perfect thank you
Nice, im gonna go with this build. I had to restart my how account.. jeez
Your video earned my sub
Ty
God bless everyone and have a good day.
Let’s go ty so much
Awesome intro dude
Ive had the game for some time but barely scratched the surface, i dont know if i should start completely new or try to make prgress with what i have blind
Why would you post Spoilers on a new player guide wtf...
I just started after a LONG hiatus....
I quit when iceborn released.
After getting tired of MHR i fired it up again and am so freaking lost lol
Is their still a decent amount of player’s playing the game
There's still a good chuck of the playerbase playing even with Rise. On steam chart the avg peak seems to be 35k and the valley seem to be 13k, and that's after Rise's release.
Got the game day 1 played finished world, still need to finish Iceborne been on a monster hunter kick lately playing (Rise finished story quests) *working on MHGU story quests) and MHstories 2 lmao
Dang wish I would’ve seen the stuff about the defender gear earlier 😭 I was starting to get frustrated that this kinda ugly gear was so damn good I wanted to try different gear sets but everything else was so much worse time to switch it up and only use that gear set if I’m getting destroyed by a monster
Just started playing with my brother... So we both new 🤣 saw hololive vtubers playing and it looked fun
i just picked it back up after several years of not playing. looking forward to all the new content.
Prob your supply chest in your house, it's been a month so you've probably figured it out already but oh well
Any chance of you making a keyboard bind guide for range and melee?
I might be able to put it into the gear guide.
🔥 thanks bro
Thank you for your effort.
How get into iceborne i beat the xeno thing
Great informative video
Great video
Yea I’m about to finally start on xbox, wanted to wait til I got a pc but I can’t wait anymore. I want some cool armor and weapons 😂😭
Sorry I'm a pc player and I just have one question, can I buy this through steam??
Yes.
What weapon is that? Like what was it forged from?(I know it’s a charge blade)
Probably late but it’s the safi’jiva charge blade looks like the poison one and it has impact phials
The way you get safi weapons is through a limited siege mission then you need to break parts and kill safi, then you will get a ! at the arena or hub lass(I can’t remember) girls and you are able to chose between 3-4 weapons which are all random. You are Guaranteed at least 1 weapon that matches your equipped weapon however, the safi weapons alone aren’t the greatest you use the things you get at the end of the siege to upgrade it.
Sorry, but for me this isn't a beginner's guide. It's more a hints and tips video. I do appreciate the effort you've put in, but it doesn't explain any of the various resources, expedition, quests etching. I'm a complete noob with around 2-3 hours gameplay. He's talking about Iceborn after 5 minutes!
check out (Till eleven) he is doing a new play through so if your not getting anything you will pick it up there he is a CB main so bonus if you are too.
Dont use the defender gear, it basically skips most of the game for you and then you have no clue how to beat end game monsters
