  • In this video, Sinead, a guide with Free Tours by Foot walks you through the Changing of the King's Life Guard at the Horse Guards Parade, a ceremony dating back to the 17th century, and through the day until their Dismounting Ceremony,
    These events see the two Squadrons that make up the Household Cavalry (the Life Guards and the Blues & Royals) the two oldest in the British military - end and/or begin their shift.
    These sentries change every hour until the final Dismounting Ceremony occurs at 16:00 (4 pm) when the sentries are posted and the horses are returned to their stables. This video covers it all.

      The Household Cavalry Regiment (HCR) has an active operational role as a Formation Reconnaissance Regiment, serving in armoured fighting vehicles, which has seen them at the forefront of the nation's conflicts. The regiment forms one of five formation reconnaissance regiments in the British Army's order of battle. The HCR has four operational squadrons, three of which are traditional medium reconnaissance squadrons equipped with the combat vehicle reconnaissance (tracked) range of vehicles (Scimitar, Spartan, Sultan, Samson and Samaritan) and the fourth is referred to as Command and Support Squadron and includes specialists, such as Forward Air Controllers. One of HCR's squadrons is assigned to the airborne role with 16 Air Assault Brigade as of 2003.

      @@YvonneWilson312 Yvonne, most of those vehicles are being phased out now. The HCR moved from Windsor to Salisbury Plain to enable them to adapt to the new generation of vehicles, namely Ajax.

    Are there women guards?

    • @franc9111
      @franc9111 2 года назад +3

      Yes, there are a few now. There already have been some playing in the bands of the Brigade of Guards. You'll see quite a lot of women serving in the Royal Horse Artillery, not only when they provide gun salutes or when they are being inspected by the Major General in Hyde Park, but they also sometimes take on guard duties here at Horseguards and in that case the officer carrying out the 4 o'clock inspection will quite often be a woman.

    Is this man crazy - what country uniform does he want PH to wear - if it is British then it represents the British army - so he wants the British army to hand out medals to the US army war veterans - firstly it is extremely bad taste to have a British man hand out US medals to US war veterans- it’s totally not patriotic and a sad state of affairs that the organisers have fallen to
