this guy without a doubt has the best hotshot channel out here , he bring raw footage , tells you and shows you how it is and isn’t just showing the sunny side of the industry much respect bro , wish you nothing but a successful year 🤙🏽keep trucking boss 🤙🏽
Thanks I appreciate you taking interest. ya this video was a tough one for me to make and I kinda ruined my truck a little but its was a good experience. thanks again sargylan
I have seen mandatory chain up pull outs on some passes when it is bad for snow and you wouldn't believe the carnage after that. Chunks of chain all the way to the top litter the road and at the next stop when you can take them off, the chains have been wrapped around brake pods on semis, chains ripping off brake lines. All kinds of horror. I never go over 20 mph and I do check them shortly after installing them and running for a bit. They will loosen up and they will whip real hard the faster you go. They are also hard on the tires over time.
As another mentioned most know that under DOT rules/laws you must carry chains in Colorado, CA, WA, Nevada among other states. You went into Colorado without chains, as another mentioned one set on drive wheels and another set on the trailer axle. I get your learning as you go and I've been following since the start and you keep putting yourself in these situations. Trip planning would have nipped this in the bud as far as chains go. I do appreciate that you have the integrity to post your journey for all of us though. As you could have edited the video to make it look like pots of gold at the end of delivery.
Thanks for the the condolence about the chains. now I know. and Thanks for the interest ill try and make it through the winter without any more learning lessons.
You were going either too fast for the chains or the chains got loose and the slack starting to rip your body apart. a good trick is once you put the chains on roll like 100 meters and then retighten them and then re check them every so often when you can. I learned the hard way too lol, thankfully it was on a military wrecker. I didn't check them before driving off and it ended up smacking into the air tank.
Shit!!!! haha that sucks. ya its always nice to learn on the governments equipment lol. but ya from the sounds of it I was going to fast. Which makes perfectly good sense
When you chained up get it as tight as you can drive a half a mile and pull over and check the tightness you can probably grab one more link. Then put your bungees on
From the video, that wasn’t a blizzard, just a snow storm. A blizzard has strong sustained winds of 35+ and low visibility for hours. When you see drifts piling up on the road even though it was recently plowed, and see snow blowing strongly across the road but unable to see much beyond that l, definitely in a blizzard. When the wind whips up (especially out on the plains) during a heavy snow it’s way worse. I’m guessing that I70 was probably closed at Limon for blizzard conditions but in the mountains it just looked like a regular snow storm. That said, driving I70 through the mountains in the winter is sketchy, especially when you have a trailer pushing you around/holding you back when climbing. Glad it all worked out!
Keep trucking man I learn by loosing money and fucking up a lot, I appreciate your videos don’t worry about all the professional keyboard warriors opinions
Chains are to be checked and retightened multiple times. There are times when you need them to get moving but at best opportunity stop and adjust them and do that often to ensure they are good to go. I have different size chains for different types of traction needed. I have modified big rig chains for severe weather regular pickup chains as well as passenger vehicle chains that have been made to fit my f450. In your situation the smaller chains would have worked well for the trip you made. The Buick rig ones are for the times that I must go no matter what.
Stop strapping through the spokes of wheels on vehicles. Loop over the top of the tire. Keep the strap on the rubber where it does not touch any metal. A better option is to use a chain bridle with J and T hooks to connect to the axle or frame to lock it down on the back to chain and binder it or it could be used on the front. Strap on the front to the axle pulling forward and outward or crisscross. Another option on trucks with a receiver is to drop a pintle hook in the receiver and binder each side to it. As other's have said, "Too fast running chains". Driving in snow/ice sucks and I avoid it. It is hard on the equipment and hard on my nerves.
Hard on my nerves heard loud and clear! those are some hard miles. And as far as scraping cars and trucks down to my flat bed... it really isn't built as a car hauler and I don't feel comfortable starting over the tires. I atlas know if the straps come loose they are still around the tires. I have really been thinking about car hauling. have you done car hauling ever with a car hauling trailer? and if you did was it better money than flatbed? is it easier to get loads.
Driving Way to fast with chains, and also, you’re supposed to have chains in Colorado since September 1st.. so driving without chains puts you in violation. Please.. educate yourself man. You’re doing this all wrong.
Well have them now. and deffiniley will slow down with the Cains on next time. I was just worried about loosing momentum like I did when I didn't have the chains on going up the first time. But now I have a better feel for them. first time was rough next time hopefully will be better.
35mph max for chains, get your self some quality chains… i mean the brand QUALITY chains, always check never run to fast and on a set like yours you need 3 sets one for trailer and enough to cover all 4 truck tires legally in co and some other states as well
Ill look into the brand QUALITY chains. yes I definitely am going to get new ones. also the speed was a big learning lesson I should have thought about before I did any damage to the truck but at least I now know for the future. thanks for the chain tips!
Just avoid going west during the winter It will avoid everything you just put yourself threw On 1-19-23 I was in south Boston Virginia enjoying a beautiful 70 degree sunny day 2 weeks ago I was in Alexandria Minnesota literally freezing my nuts off -7
Ya I thought about it, but I wanted them on my power axles so all my tires putting power to the ground could get the best traction but I know what you mean and ill probably grab set for the trialer too
I'd start looking for a flatbed body to replace that stock bed. And nothing went wrong with the chains, driver error. Next time read the little paper that is included (instructions and safety restrictions)
Baby lion, you were going Way to Fast! I don’t know what your thinking. I guess you are not. How could you forget to put the truck in 4 wheel drive. You are in snow and you just put chains on! Buddy you are going to kill someone.
Ill have to look into what snow socks are. Im assuming they are smaller chains but cover a lot more of the tire. I think I saw them on some semi's while I was up there. And for sure I will slow down.
I was going way slower than the cars and sun's passing me. but yes I needed to slow down even more so and will do so next time im in those conditions. it just seemed like a lot going on and the 4 wheel drive slipped my mind. I was more focused on keeping My momentum up but I will hopefully get better as time goes on.
Upstate NY you don't know snow. Do you know that that lake effect snow is the top four out of 10 weather phenomenons only happens in upstate New Michigan Ohio etc lake-effect snow no one in the world knows what 2 + 8 in an hour or more like drive-on brother
How can I get ahold of you
Link in the description, it’s the only way I can do it. I get to many calls and emails.

I am so glad that you actually show the raw footage.
Welcome to the big league, rookie. We all learn something new everyday, you'll get there kid, just stay safe and slow it down in bad road conditions.
Thanks for your video, it is very knowledgeable. Good luck

Chains are required if you don't have 4×4 or AWD been trucking for years
Chain mishap was unfortunate. Max speed on em is 30 mph. I think I'll wouldn't pass 25. Great vid. Be safe out there!

Grab a set for your trailer as well
Tail chains can really help co tr9l the trailer. Oh and always stop to retighten chains. Cheap chains stretch out.
Hahahaha! I live up in Grand County CO and that mountain you show @ 6:47 is called Granny's Nipple!
The only thing I can say Stewart u r a better man than me
lol hey I just want to show we all take hits every now and then. that's funny though!
lol as a tire guy that chain on pavement breaking thing was a tough watch it’s like broooo

lol hell ya man thanks for the motivation!!
The damage to the truck sucks but it gave your truck personality 🥃✅
Bro that suck but glad you made it thru.

I should have waited until the video was over, I seen that coming..
Man i took 12k in substation parts to steam boat springs in august that’s a hell of a hill!
o ya so you know first hand what I was talking about haha

Do you have to have a dulley truck ??
Dude you’re hauling ass with chains Lmao I would be driving 15-20 tops !
ya that was definitely an F- Up. I personally think God is trying to ruin my truck so I get a dully. or im doing it subconsciously
God don't have nothing with . Ur one up screw up
@@billmcclure7619 yeah god doesn’t have anything to do with this it’s him not using common sense
Make sure you check your fill necks for Fuel. I had that same thing happen. All my lines are flextaped permanently now. It tore my shit all to hell
Glad im part of the club now lol
@@Babylionhotshot Fuck chains man I carry them to be legal but I won't run for chain law
non-cdl hotshot do you need a medical card? and a logbook? and would it have to be E-LOG?
- Thanks
Chains for that lol. Wow bruh 😅
Bro I had too. I was slipping like a mother trucker. it was steep and long

Baby lion you best like you videos
#iceroadtrucking #iceroadhotshot
Did hotshot not workout for you? Haven’t made a video in a while just wondering
How much weight can you haul total?
so what exactly went wrong with the chains?
I was going to fast. people are telling me probably should go faster than 30MPH.
do u take cdl load or non cdl loads
Right now Non-CDL loads but im getting my CDL first thing next year. just have to do the driving portion of the test.
You would have been better putting a set on rear axle and a set on trailer for the chains.
Yup would have saved me. Im highlighting this comment in my next video! next time let me know before I F up.
@@Babylionhotshot no problem, I have some thoughts to save you a lot of grief and some money, hmu anytime, knowledge is POWER.
You're doing a good job man. Just....just next time slow down with the chains lolz.
Como lo haces para que la nieve no se te pegue en la ropa y el gorro?
That's Walmart products for commercial application
You gotta slow down while driving with chains
Ya ill be going slower next time for sure, I can't believe I did that!
Im from Florida and could of told you your speed was too high for chains lol
Also get snow socks. That’s what I run. But I think you were going too fast with the chains. That’s prob why they came loose

chains aint meant to drive on
Found that one out haha
Hope they pay you to help unload
You’re going 40+ miles an hour with chains on and you’re confused what happened? Lol.
ya I really wish I didn't have to learn literally everything the hard way. there goes both quarter panels. time to switch to a utility bed lol
20 mph with chains bud, your gonna have one cut loose and take out brake lines or worse.
To fast and chains fly apart
It’s not what you say it’s how you say it ..and you dudes in the comments are funny ….smh
