Appreciate it Robertensign. Believe it or not I filmed the excel part like 4 times, each time making it shorter and shorter. its hard to say everything and say it exactly how I want to say it but im going to start making one week number videos so its easier to digest. again thank you Robert!
CRAZY HIGH BID 10 loads a day for 1 winner. The reason I think this is successful is because some slash rare shippers don't really care about the price but want to know their product is in the hands of someone with superior qualifications and equipment.
Yes I have ran into shippers with that mind set. So, One thing I have learned is if you are a hotshot company with 3 or more trucks you are more likely to satisfy a shipper. but if your a smaller company maybe 1 or 2 trucks when they call and tell you they have a load ready in Illinois and your in cali or Texas or Florida. eventually they learn that its easier to just call a broker that will get a truck to them 99% of the time. Thats just what I have experienced.
yes so many people have asked me to do a video on that! im sorry I have been slacking on that one. its just kinda boring but... super crucial. I will put it at the top of the priority list. thanks for your support.
Is that profit of .90 after you paid Payroll tax? Payroll tax includes three components: Federal income tax withholding, your portion of Medicare tax and Social Security tax. I owned a business too and I always paid these three taxes. Do not get to your FRA (Full Retirement Age), look back and realize you paid zero Medicare tax or Social Security tax. Also, since you are self employed have you set up a SEP IRA where your company is making a contribution to your retirement plan? How about healthcare? Unless you are on a spouses plan, a monthly health insurance plan comes out of that .90 too. And lastly, your rainy day fund. You will have unexpected expenses. Proverbs 22:7 "the borrower is slave to the lender". Don't get too big for your britches and you will be fine.
I subscribed and loked the video. 8 years class A CDL , home everyday and .78/mile LTL Company in Indiana .. Im still thinking about going hotshot though. A great friend of mine has been on for a few years. You still enjoy it? Ive just found your page. Thanks for all the info.
Nope sure isn't, and it's not for everyone. I work my butt off and have holes in my shoes and shirts still. But learning is my passion I think, the more I learn the less frustrated I get kind of lol not the case every time though
@@BabylionhotshotI drive big rigs and I was thinking of going hotshot route. I bought a 2021 3500 dually Cummins to get into it but I think I will just lease under someone or continue driving big rigs. DOT loves to hassle hotshots daily. Use my truck for my own personal stuff and haul stuff for farmers on the side. I almost did rv transport until I ran numbers, can’t make squat unless you run gooseneck because single pulls get ZERO back hauls to Indiana.
Im hauling my heart out waiting for a someone to pay me real good money for something real small, light and far. haven't found that person yet but im looking lol
I get the rest. If its not an expense its profit. the only thing I left out was my Factoring Cost which is 3% some people factor some don't so I just left that out. because factoring is a choice and not really an expense for everyone. Do you think I should do a cost per mile breakdown video? or would that be boring?
@@truckingunfilteredya this industry is long and wide, i wonder what kind of semi guys he was comparing this to because as a company driver i havent drove over a 100k miles in a year in a very long time😂😂
How much is your fuel? How much is health insurance? How much do you get for your 401k? Profit sharing? How much for pms? How much per hour for repairs? How much for the rig and trailer? Just asking
I understand. So my cost per mile (meaning the cost to run the truck… until paid off in 18 months from the time a bought it) is $1.50. Once paid of cost per mile will drop to .90 cents because I pay .60 mile. Now 401k I have rental properties. I get no taxes taken out because as a business owner I deduct everything including my equipment I paid no taxes on. If I buy shoes…. Those are not shoes… those are work boots…. Ect… 120,233k for rig and trailer. I’m crying now paying .60 cents a mile and that is aggressive. But at a 7% interest rate I need it off my chest. So it takes disciple but refuse to cry later. I’m hoping for another 150k miles out of the truck till it’s scrap. Appreciate the questing but it’s much more than what I can send back over text. Maybe good for a video.
Yes get your CDL before any truck or trailer. so you don't have monthly payment coming at you. You can go to the Babylionhotshot.com website to see what school I recomend because they are the least expensive I have found and it will save you literally thousands.
Great information thank you. I’m strongly considering using my CDLA to start a hotshot llc. I appreciate your guidance. I just found in your page yesterday. What truck and trailer do your recommend using?
Thank you very much for the Information. Ia any video or a class on how to choose the right loads or load companies/ brokers. ? Best places to park for hotshots? Thanks

Probably best video about hot-shot trucking at the moment. Great job. And let me ask you something. Why you think your trailer is most profitable trailer for hotshot trucks? Don’t you think 5 car trailers are better than yours? Just wondering. (Like Kaufman 5 car hauler trailer)
With your breakdown of profit on each mileage compared to company semi drivers. What do you say to about non cdl hotshot, will they still make more net profit than company semi truck drivers ?
Great question. It’s close but with all the other perks of running your own business. Taxes get taken out after expenses, relationships and potential growth of your company. Freedom ext…. It’s always better to start somewhere even if you have to bite the bullet for a year non cell, than work for someone else
About 28,500 ish . Forgot the exact number I need to do a video on that and point out where the weight can be distributed. When I get home from this week that’ll be the next video. Good idea.
i am 23 years old and am wanting to get into hotshot. would like to start non cdl to see how it works out for me. i already have the truck for it, just need to add a gooseneck to my bed.
2 reasons I think why some dont want to go cdl is number one, drug testing. Using marijuana in off time can show up on a test months later. Also, with a CDL, you can't take defensive driving for speeding tickets even in a regular car. Going the CDL route requires a more expensive bigger truck and trailer, insurance, bigger tarps etc...
Thats what you made right now. Many hot shot carriers are out of the business. We will see what your numbers are once all the people that watched your videos are competing with you for the same freight.
Ya I plan on putting out videos but only one week numbers at a time because its easier to talk about and digest. So, Ill give you my honest opinion: I think the more hotshot that are out there the better because most likely some of them figure out they can make even more money in a semi. then that hurts the big companies. The big companies are in the politicians pockets making a new regulation every week. So eventually there will be so many semi trucks we will take down the big companies pay the drivers crap wages. also I want to put all the scumbag CDL Schools out of business charging 5K for a CDL too. That is the true fire burning in my heart.
Want to get in cell hotshot in future. What minimum size trailer to buy. Would buy the right size truck for the trailer. Like your videos and learning a lot.
My only issue is how do you get your license for 1000$? No schooling or nothing? In Ga they make it seem like school is a must and must schools are charging 2500/5000 and 4-8weeks of your time
Ya I need to try it my buddy has a subscription and I need to check it out. when im looking for loads im afraid to take my eyes off the Truckstop load board for even a split second. you probably know that feeling. but I can probably manage it. one on the phone and one on the iPad.
Awesome video!! Thanks a lot!! I'm 26 and have been blind in one eye my whole life, is it possible for me to get a CDL with one eye? And I have a prescription lense for the other eye. Thanks! Located in Tennessee!
I’ve been in trucking my hole life. Let’s get real. Hotshot’s wear a truck out every two years $100 grand plus. Semi trucks will run 8 years without rebuilding motor. 200 grand. Let’s be real!!!!!
Ya I’ll probably move to a semi eventually but since I do t have the experience and actually know for myself how long my truck will last I have to find out by myself. Because everyone has major truck problems but that’s because they don’t know how to take care of it for a year and trade it in for a new one before the maintenance issues arise. Also the f550 is geared different so I don’t have access to full power. And that helps protect me from running the engine. 4.30 gear
Where r u getting the numbers..I retired over 10 years ago..At that time I was getting paid .53 cents per mile as a LTL over the road driver..worked average 10 hrs a night moving trailers from terminal to terminal LTL freight Co..Benefits & Vacation..plus hourly pay when making & breaking sets when at the terminals..
CDL school in TN starts at $4500 and goes up. I have 34 yrs driving Fire Engines in a major US city but never needed a CDL. I’m retiring in a maximum 3yrs and wanna do something transport. I’ve been looking and CDL school is 2-3 weeks and not cheep.
@Firemedic1254, I'm in the same situation. But here is what I have ran into so far. I got my CDL last year. In the trucking world, all that fire truck driving don't mean jack to them. Over 20+ years driving a 102' KME aerial cat and that evidently don't mean squat, LOL. Now I was doing a Semi Truck. Hot shot may be a little different. Unless you are going to drive for swift, jb hunt, etc., VERY FEW trucking companies will hire you since you don't have at least 2 years OTR experience. Most say it's what their insurance requires to insure you as their driver. Other option is to just start your own company with your own authority. I would suggest getting your CDL asap before retirement from the FD. Some insurance companies won't write you a insurance policy on your own CDL truck (SEMI) if you haven't had your CDL for 2yrs minimum.
Check out TCAT (Tennessee College of Applied Technology) Truck driving program. It's about 2 months long, 8 hrs a day, 5 days a week. Cost me about $2k, had the VA pay for it. It was the lowest cost option I found and it's actual, absorbable classes and info. First month is in class room, second month in the yard backing and road driving. Then they have a thirid party tester do your CDL road test. You also have to get your CDL A permit first - Driver's Lisc place and obviously you have to pass your written tests and endorsements with TDOT (driver's lics place).
Hey your videos are very informative! Thank you for all of the information! I’m interested in starting hotshot. How long have you been in this industry for yourself to get to this point? The work I do now is good money but I have hardly any time to do anything on the side. Definitely looking for a new career change.
Has anyone here paid for the CDL info on their website? If yes, did you actually get your CDL for that cheap and that fast? I'd like to see some reviews on that.
4 people have so far and I’m going to be contacting them this week to ask how they are doing. And if they got in touch with the school yet. But ya it’s legit, trust me I don’t want a bad rep
Here is what I recommend. Watch as many videos about the pros and cons as you can learn the job from RUclips. And from many peoples perspectives. Then if you want to do it start your own company. I can guarantee you that you will hate it if you work for someone. You will make no money. They will take all your profit. I wish you luck and just know deep down that you wont let yourself down.
So thinking about getting into this but dt want to go out no more than a day then back home whats the best boards to use? Also best truck an trailer to use? I was thinking dodge 3500 and a 30 ft trailer is this a failure recipe? Thank you
Is the hot shot market not being affected by this recession? I just hung up my keys and started driving as a company driver due to increased fuel prices and decreased freight rate.
So do you do that every 3 months or is that your best 3 months? You are getting paid more but lets keep it real you have more responsibility and pressure on you than a trucker who drives for a company. They do not have to find and bid the loads, they do not have to pay for repairs, keep the truck legal, if the company goes belly up they go to another company and many other things that owner operators have to do themselves so you are working hard for that extra 20 cents a mile. Some people don't want that headache.👍 Good job on scoring those multi loads. I am trying to decide between a hotshot and or box truck business. Thanks for the clean info and a look at your spreadsheet.
So, yes I have more responsibility. Second drivers who do drive for a company with a company truck do pay for insurance repairs and all the other expenses involved in trucking, the company pays for it for them with the money they worked for. Third I didn’t pick and choose the months those were my numbers from when I had 0 miles on the truck to the 32812 miles. If I would have pick a couple weeks I could have picked my best weeks but I choose to give all my number and all my weeks. The bottom line is: working for someone pays less and it’s more risky because they can go out of business or fire the driver, or layoff. Working for your self the sky is the limit.

And yea live in Colorado Springs and man it can easily take me up to a week to find something decent heading east. I was sitting there looking at that same tractor and car load waiting for someone else to take so I wouldn’t have to.
Wait, so you saw the tractor and carload that I took??? I was watching that thing for three hours hahaha.
Bro you clear my mind, grettings from Cali Colombia, south América. I gonna live in miami nex year, had that question, hotshot is best that semitruck.... For my! Thanks so much babylion... Hope to see you soon
Dang that's so cool your tuning in from all the way over there. yes my friend I hope you make the big move and everything goes well. One thing I can say forsure is; If you put in the work and work like your life depends on it, you will be successful, its you vs you!. I wish you the best 🦁
I'm thinking about getting CDL now and will definitely keep all this in mind.
2.34 is damn good for hotshot. A lot of reefer/van guys can’t do this
I’m very careful about cost per mile. I know that is what could kill me. Plus since I pay it 60¢ per mile i have to be careful. Paying of the truck and trailer by 200k miles is tough but I’d rather cry now with a paid off truck later then cry later with broken truck and big equipment note.
Well gotta say you’re doing it right bro. I’m paying off 2 kw , halfway there but it can be a pain
A lie !$3.50 or better for my trucks !!
@@274Deon I doubt that. I’m talking about all miles since the time I bought it. Divided my the total gross. But if you getting 3.50 for your dead head I will come work for you.
Thanks for great video, I having been going back and forth trying to figure out if I want a semi or a hotshot setup. The hotshot setup would be lower overhead.
Great info! Thanks for keeping it real!
Thanks Ironmule! Cool name too
Great informative, to the point video. Thanks man!
You should try the DAT load board
Ya I really should. Do you think it will help my numbers.
This is the strategy your brother uses
Brilliant
Hello, can you please make a video on how you use the Exel spredsheet, or what formulas you use to have the automatic add ups. Please and thank you.
yes so many people have asked me to do a video on that! im sorry I have been slacking on that one. its just kinda boring but... super crucial.
Being an entrepreneur is not easy, you have to find first what is your passion
I enjoy the videos. Keep them coming.
Thanks I’ll do my best it’s a lot of work but the real numbers need to get out there. Thanks jdh1475
Keep on Hauling Baby Lion's
Im hauling my heart out waiting for a someone to pay me real good money for something real small, light and far. haven't found that person yet but im looking lol
NateDog Got your Back on next Level logistics I'll PM you...
Bc of your vids I got me a freight liner cascadia
Great fuel saving truck
Good loock my friend from American hauler transport in florida state.owner operator .
In your Cost Per Mile $1.44, did you include your pay as a driver as well?
I get the rest. If its not an expense its profit. the only thing I left out was my Factoring Cost which is 3% some people factor some don't so I just left that out. because factoring is a choice and not really an expense for everyone. Do you think I should do a cost per mile breakdown video? or would that be boring?
Absolutely! Do a video where you put every expense you incur.
@@truckingunfilteredya this industry is long and wide, i wonder what kind of semi guys he was comparing this to because as a company driver i havent drove over a 100k miles in a year in a very long time😂😂
Great video man. Thanks for the info. Keep up the videos
Thanks Bravado!
Did you create your own spreadsheet? That's nice!
Maybe good for a video.
interestin. Ya i wanted to do an older f550. seen ill need a cdl. but should just get cdl, and run f550 and 40ft+ i guess. if im going to do it.
Yes get your CDL before any truck or trailer. so you don't have monthly payment coming at you. You can go to the Babylionhotshot.com website to see what school I recomend because they are the least expensive I have found and it will save you literally thousands.
Can you do a video on the F550 and how it is holding up?
Great information thank you. I’m strongly considering using my CDLA to start a hotshot llc. I appreciate your guidance. I just found in your page yesterday. What truck and trailer do your recommend using?
does the 90 factor in insurance, permits, equipment replacement fund etc? or just raw immediate operating costs like fuel, supplies etc.
Thank you very much for the Information.
Ia any video or a class on how to choose the right loads or load companies/ brokers. ?
Best places to park for hotshots?
Thanks
God named him Stew so he stays cooking. Thank you Stewart for being informative and smart. Your... drive-- to help people will earn you good karma.
Thanks tm54851! It’s tough but I’m trying to keep it spicy 😂 it’s had to fit all my thoughts in a video but over time I hope to paint an educational picture. Applicator the support that’s helps me out🙏
Did you start out paying on your truck and trailer as well? Or did you own one, or both? Thanks and God bless
Great video.... Keep them coming
Thanks Hollywood I’m going to try! 🙏
CDL in Canada is Class1 and min 10k now
U had real good advice I enjoyed ur video buddy keep it up
Thanks, I'll try and put my advice to work out here and prove it. I just want to share the truth and I appreciate the love, Thanks Carldillow3500
Can you do video on deductions fuel cost, insurance etc...
just seen you in Nashville!!!!!
So about the CDL. How do I get to there? I'm from California will that be a problem?
With your breakdown of profit on each mileage compared to company semi drivers.
What do you say to about non cdl hotshot, will they still make more net profit than company semi truck drivers ?
Great question. It’s close but with all the other perks of running your own business. Taxes get taken out after expenses, relationships and potential growth of your company. Freedom ext…. It’s always better to start somewhere even if you have to bite the bullet for a year non cell, than work for someone else
You do right. Good job so far, I b following your progress.
Stay safe.
Great video. Thank you. 😊
Love the video man good numbers 👍 What's the max weight you put on your stepdack??
About 28,500 ish . Forgot the exact number I need to do a video on that and point out where the weight can be distributed. When I get home from this week that’ll be the next video. Good idea.
Great info. Thanks for sharing.
My take home is 1.40-1.60 per mile non cdl my operation cost is 0.70 per mile
i am 23 years old and am wanting to get into hotshot. would like to start non cdl to see how it works out for me. i already have the truck for it, just need to add a gooseneck to my bed.
Got one for sale right now. My old trailer all straps included 10k$ 2023 big Tex 14gn w/ mega ramps. GVWR 15,900 . Check out my latest video.
Awesome video bro keep them coming and stay safe always looking forward to your new vidoes👍🏾
Do you have a link to the SPREADSHEET??
Shoot I forgot to link it. Let me figure out how to link a pdf version of it and I’ll get that in there. My bad Bryon I’ll try to do that by tonight
got that army load
Want to get in cell hotshot in future. What minimum size trailer to buy. Would buy the right size truck for the trailer. Like your videos and learning a lot.
Thanks brother for the info
Did you factor health insurance and income tax into this?
My only issue is how do you get your license for 1000$? No schooling or nothing? In Ga they make it seem like school is a must and must schools are charging 2500/5000 and 4-8weeks of your time
You have to go to school but you can go to any school in the country. Find the cheapest school. 🫡
Can You Haul A dump Truck (Dual Tandems)?
I can Place 29K LBS onto of my deck. I usually prefer not to.
bro , new equipment - no brake downs -:)
Where did you get your CDL for 1000$!? The nearest school from me is 7500$
DAT would for sure be worth adding as a load board for you with your setup.
Ya I need to try it my buddy has a subscription and I need to check it out. when im looking for loads im afraid to take my eyes off the Truckstop load board for even a split second. you probably know that feeling. but I can probably manage it. one on the phone and one on the iPad.
Talked to him and he said the same as you. Good stuff thanks sgmz610
You can do split screen on IPad. That's what I do.
I am going hot shot now!
I hotshoted back in the day you ware these small trucks out in a years time the big truck will last 5 or 6 times longer
Can you please let me know how you set up your excel spreadsheet please
Ill make a video on that bunch of people are asking, Thanks Cocohed
Awesome Real Numbers
Do you recommend any apps to acquire the various trips?
Check with your local county and state for grants. Some are 100% covering the cost of a CDL.
What is your opinion on getting into the industry with a new trailer and truck paid off already?
Hey your videos are very informative! Thank you for all of the information! I’m interested in starting hotshot. How long have you been in this industry for yourself to get to this point? The work I do now is good money but I have hardly any time to do anything on the side. Definitely looking for a new career change.
Thanks for the videos. Do you use loadboards?
Do you need a class A cdl for your set up?
Has anyone here paid for the CDL info on their website? If yes, did you actually get your CDL for that cheap and that fast? I'd like to see some reviews on that.
4 people have so far and I’m going to be contacting them this week to ask how they are doing. And if they got in touch with the school yet. But ya it’s legit, trust me I don’t want a bad rep
I got a question for you. How much weight are you comfortable putting on that trailer and pulling it behind your f550?
Comfortable? 27k lbs …… legally? 28,500ish depending on fuel and dunage weight
So if I get a 40ft trailer I have to get a cdl ? Why can’t I just buy all of the equipment and have a cdl driver drive for me ?
Can you send me the video, where u started from first get an LLC,, I can't find it.
I see the CDL course, but how do you get the over the road training & test drive portion completed?
Do you have to make your own business while doing hotshot or can you be an employee first to start off to see if you like it.
What insurance company do you use for commercial insurance?
Progressive unfortunately 😏 $2200 a month. 4400/mo for me and my brother
Wow. That's it. I'll stick to moving furniture.
Which load boards are the best and how many are there. I’m in the St. Paul mn area

@@Babylionhotshot I agree as a small business owner myself working for yourself is the way to go. I was just saying that you earn that extra $0.20. Some people just prefer to drive and let others handle all the other details.
How to get the spreadsheet
What kind of milage you getting with the F550?
Honestly horrible, 8 miles to the gallon maybe a little bit more like 8.4 empty but under 7 if I'm loaded over 10K LBS.
