great video! I'm starting hotshot trucking; I started the process in October 2022 and I'm currently still in the process of completing all the necessary items it takes to operate this business. I have no clue on I was doing or jumping into until i started watching your videos. I can't speak for everyone but I myself want say thanks for helping me out!!
You got an old lady back at home? I’m thinking I’d love the lifestyle because I love hard work, but i really hate answering to a boss at the same place every day, ultimately making someone else rich. But my wife grew up with a trucker dad, and doesn’t want to sacrifice that time missed for another part of her life. Can’t blame her. I always pick at her though, and whenever i see a dually loaded up ripping down I95, i point at it and tell her “that could be us stacking that money but here we are bullshitting!” 🤣🤣🤣
awesome vid man, currently getting out of the military and hotshot trucking as sparked a interest since like a year ago, My dad was a truck driver also so i feel thats why i been so drawn into this type of work, ty for documenting the ups an downs of this type of work
well first of all thanks for your service, the military has its challenges too and I appreciate you. My sister is a dis. vet. Anyways ya ill try and do my best for you. the main thing is just being away from home. I went to boarding school since 7th grade and college 10 days after I graduated (even though I didn't make it too far down that path lol) so being away from home is easy for me but now I have a girl friend and she never like me to leave, so my advice is just to keep that in mind if you have a significant other and make a plan. thanks for tuning in

I appreciate the compliment. that really make me feel like im sending out good info. I haven't gotten around to making a "how to get your CDL video" yet but I did mine for 650$ for the school that took 3 hours, my ELDT online training for 75$ and the tests at the DMV for 50$. are you paying much more than that. if so look up "one day CDL school" in Iowa. I hope I just saved you a shit load of money. thanks again for the motivation Noah

No problem, I appreciate your interest. its hard to document everything but im trying my best. I just got back from Steam Boat spring in CO. practically a blizzard. I hope I can get that one put together soon. thanks again Homer
If you keep using diesel fuel at gas stations, sometimes you’ll run into gas stations that don’t go through a lot of diesel fuel and get water in your diesel fuel then that CP 4f fuel pump that’s in that Ford is gonna blow up and then you’ll be stuck with a $10,000 bill! And potentially out of business, just a little FYI
lol Ya I definitely should. I had a strap holding it in place but you know how it is. When you need a strap and that's the only extra one you have, I used it and never put it back. but when I do bolt it down ill see if I can hard wire the pump into the truck so I don't have to pop the hood every time. But with that being said for some reason I like doing things the hard way

Thanks for the great videos. I am gearing up to start my business. The biggest question I’m working to answer is how to figure the rates? Is there an average per mile that is figured to make money? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
First thing first know your cost per mile. I have a video on how to figure your cost per mile. I forgot to factor insurance in but you have to factor that in plus your equipment payments. Anyways once you find your cpm ( cost per mile) it all depends I. What you think is worth it for you. I’d say CDL I want a minimum of 1.50 profit per mile. That means if your cost per mile is 1$ you need to be hauling an average of 2.50$ per mile. But how much you make and the next man may differ but both men are happy. Hope that helped and good luck Noel
My Russian friends do this hot shot trucking. They use dispatchers on every load.... Yeah they're married to their dispatcher. Men drive women has their load ready for pickup.
Why do you not have the fuel pump hard wired to an uplifter switch? You have gone up to 14 ply tires? That is a good move. When is the last time the axles were serviced? How about the brakes? Do you give your wooden deck a Thompson water seal treatment yearly? After driving in snow do you pressure wash the underside of your truck and trailer? Keep some kitty litter in your toolbox. It is good for getting traction in snow and ice. I run in the southeast where I will go as far north as Kentucky/Maryland over to Oklahoma and Texas so I avoid the snow. I will not go within 75 miles of DC and a hefty upcharge for Miami and further south as that is all deadhead and bad traffic. What kind of fuel mileage are you getting with the 10 speed? I have a 2016 F350 6.7L FX4 Lariat and will take up to 14,501 pounds even though I can carry 15,800 with my setup. I am also driving on a CDL. I am currently rebuilding my front suspension and brakes. The trailer axles and brakes are next.
No I haven't hard wired my fuel tank yet but man that would be a sweet upgrade. The 14 ply's blew a hole in my pocket. But it does come with a sense of peace of mind knowing my trailer can haul what its capable of hauling now. they were 800$. I do try to pressure wash the trailer after the salt and snow but can't do it as often as it it takes for the rust to not develop. The winches for my 4 inch straps are getting the most rust ware because of their location but that's what wd-40 is for right lol. Also I have a video coming up about how many miles I drove in the 11 hours that you are legally allowed to drive and you can see my fuel milage in my dash in that one. but for you Ill just tell ya so you don't have to wait, about 11 on a bad day,12.5 empty. also good luck on rebuilding your truck, im sure you'll be happy when its done.
Thanks Dustin! I Appreciate the encouragement. the hot shot gig is not as easy as I thought but you can make money. the hardest part for me is being away from home as I have a girlfriend. so if you do decide to pull the trigger keep that in mind.

You’re not paying a 1$ per mile though in fuel. If you’re (at worst case) getting 11mpg take the price at the pump 4.51 / (miles per gallon) 11 = your cost per mile is .41c So the $4050 - fuel miles $902 is $3,148.
Then we can subtract the other costs if you want. The $800 tires and figure out your operation costs per diem. Truck + trailer + insurance payment let’s say 1,000, 300, 1200 (blatant assumption. If you own your own gear outright, then disregard.) so $2,500 divide by 4 weeks and the 5 business days in a week is about $125 a day. If you stopped running then that still counts for all 5 days of the week. So that’s $625 gone. 4050-$902fuel-$800tires-$625 operation costs for a week == $1,723
Cost per mile includes everything that it costs me to drive my truck. Oil, tires, insurance, etc.. fuel is just one piece of the cost per mile. And when you say “then we can subtract other costs if you want”, like I have a choice haha trust me, if I had a choice I’d get rid of all me other costs.

Gravity feed is wayyyy better
Not a good time to start hotshot
You can say that again. I was just looking back at this video and saw the fuel prices in it and cringe at me say that was good
whining?
Another wannabe Tow Piglet. Lol
Nice video but I call bullshit. I been around T.V. production for 25 years. You can't make it interesting unless you recreate and have a script.
You in marion?
Ya
I live close to you can I get a hold of you and talk to you I'm seriously wanting to get into this and would love to talk with you in-person. If not I completely understand.
Appreciate the interest in the videos man. I’d love to talk to you and can definitely give you pointers that will literally save you thousands. I have a link in the description of most of my videos. It’s an hour phone call but if you live close I’d be down to meet up. Just scheduled it and we can plan something. I have to do it that way because way to many people have reached out and I can’t get to everyone. And it also helps weed out the people that aren’t serious. Hope to here from you.
