Naw I’m going back to regula cdl Job pretty much same amount of money
I love the way you break down the figures. You are sounding more and more confident every week. You are also inspiring me to get out there and do it! Keep up the Grind! Thank you for sharing
Make sure you take all of your mileage today add it all together and then divide it by the miles driven to get your average per mile rate to you you break down is really good and about 90% more than most people do honestly
Sir, that was very informative. You broke down your real cost, even for just starting out on hotshot train. Ive been looking into it and watching ally of videos, this is - real one of 20 or videos I have seen in terms of explaining first time out. Good job on that. All upfront cost, file organization is very good too. Congrats, I'm watching the progress..
So I've never driven hotshot before but I've been using my own truck for work for about 4 years now. FOR ME I don't like having less than 20k put aside JUST for my truck. Maintenance and repairs can get speedy quick especially on diesel pickups. Just my way of doing it. Digging your videos man, been thinking of getting into hotshot driving myself
Looks like your doing good, one thing I recommend, you might want to invest in small cooler to carry some lunch meat, fruit, stuff like that, another thing you may want to consider is to schedule short hauls when you have to deadhead to your next pickup, to make up the difference, instead of just deadheading if possible you might want to hire your wife to find your loads and set them up and dispatch you, once you get your own authority, if that's your goal, this could put more money in your pocket, because the 30 percent is a little steep, you got your rig and trailer, your doing about 100% of the work, this way you could cut the rate of the company your leased to, but you will be responsible for your own insurance and fuel, you can apply for your own fuel card, your own maintenance, something to think about, you can still be dispatched from your current employer but as an owner operator, your DOT number and still stay busy
Yo I deeply appreciate this honest information bruh. This your first go around and you did damn good. Once you do more you’ll get better. I’m glad you provided this information cause know I’ll know what to except when I get out there soon. Appreciate it!
The way you break everything down is great. It definitely gives those a real look at how it works as a hotshot and help make a decision to get in the game.....How did you get connected with a company and what made you choose to get connected with a company instead of being your own broker/dispatcher?
@@HotshotMacc, would you please be my mentor? I can drop you my email or phone number so that we can talk a little better over the phone. Thanks in advance!
Most hotshot guys don't take into account the depreciation of their truck. By a new $80,000 truck and then in the first year put 150,000 miles on it, the depreciation is more than most guys make.
I found this video by accident but long haul is something Ive been thinking about doing for along time and your break down is pretty efficient makes me wanna look into it more for my area

Man I appreciate that feedback brother! It’s definitely a relief sometimes to read these types of comments. Makes me feel like I’m connecting with you guys. Stay blessed my man 🙏🏽💪🏽💯
Keep expenses for you and business separate. Food fuels you, diesel fuels truck. Clothes are for you and tires for truck. Give yourself a paycheck and never use your personal card for an expense or business acct for personal purchase
This is good feedback man! I appreciate it. I use one card for all my on the road expenses but ai do need to have a separate business account for these business expenses. Your definitely right! Thanks man!
Thats a good idea. Ill see if that will work or if I can figure out how to do that. Right now I’m just seeing what works best. Thanks for the advice bro!
Im considering driving hotshot, great video. The detailed info was great. Quick note on your truck with the alignment. You have a solid axle front end, before paying anyone you can measure the toe yourself to see if it is off enough to need to pay for it. Pick a spot on the front tread of the tire, inner part of the tread, measure from tire to tire in the same spot on both sides. Now go to the backside of the front tires and measure across from the same spot you did in the front. those two numbers should match or damn near match, if the front num is smaller; your tires are toed inward. If the back num is smaller they are toed out. If they are even and your steering wheel is off; it can be adjusted from the drag link bar by the adjuster at the pitmar arm. Sorry for the rant but it can save you money, these "warranties" are a joke sometimes.
Idling. Cummins says no due to all the emissions. I never have. I have a generator and a small window ac that I placed on aux tank and blow through back window. Nice and cool. Summer, I use 0 degree sleeping bag. It's like camping. Remote start to warm truck before uncovering. Besides idling burns 6gal of fuel a night. High idle settings do work, but I rather warm engine. With diesels, let them cool down 15-20min before turning them off, watch the oil pressure/coolant temps. Get them to normal.
Your channel had been a recommendation so decided to check out one of your videos, must say it's inspiring to know I can transport freight without a cdl (though I will be working on that). Your breakdown is awesome on how you done for the month, would it be possible to send me a copy of the spreadsheet? I'm looking to get my feet wet in hotshot beginning next year so this will get started... Hope to continue learning when you learned and thanks for providing us the info. Stay safe out there!!!
One thing I used to do hotshot work is oil changes I would change my oil at least every 3 to 4 weeks. You can rack up a lot of miles really fast in a month. I can keep up with all your Lubing fluid changes check the brakes
Don't waste your time if you have a cdl. The accelerated maintenance/repairs and depreciation on pickup trucks just ain't worth it when it's said n done. Cheaper and more profitable long term to save up a down-payment for a semi. Been there done that lol
If you bought a new truck, the first 100k miles is mostly maintenance. After that, you can run into bigger expenses. So save up that repair budget and keep up good pretrip inspections
Great video! I’m definitely interested in being a non CDL hot shot driver. Going to gather some Jewels on knowledge and learning what it’s going to take to be successful. Wish you well my brother!
Great Video. Just make sure that you follow all of the FMCSR. Just because you aren't required a CDL doesn't mean that you're exempt from the FMCSR. If you have a DOT Number you have to adhere to all of the regulations.
Thanks! I could not be operating if I wasn't following all FMCSA regulations. All commercial vehicles regardless of having CDL or not need to follow the regulations.
I need help please!, I buy my ram 2500 and I would like to know which is the best gooseneck trailer that I can buy, I’m not talking about the brand, I’m talking about how many feet long? Dually or single? I have my CDL, but which trailer would be the perfect one for my pickup?
A lot of good info here. I found a small glitch in your math. To get an accurate 70% RPM you need to take your 70% amount total and divide by your total miles. You added the average of your total miles and that number would not be accurate. Enjoy, and keep on working hard!
I think 200-250 a week for truck/trailer is a good amount. Like your said you still have your warranty so having that extra money set aside for any emergency is just smart business. What I would also do is either take a salary and put the rest back into the business or take a percentage out and put it back into the business. After a year or 2 you could possibly get a 2nd truck going and hire another driver. Do that a few times and you could have your own trucking company with a fleet of trucks and drivers. I don’t know what your plans are but just looking at how detailed your sheets are I would guess your a smart person. What we have learned from this pandemic is people like staying home and having their shit brought to them. I think people are going to shop online more and more so the trucking industry is going to see a real boom.
As a self described data guy I’d recommend changing your 70% rpm calculation to be the 70% rate / mileage. This figure shown in the first week doesn’t tell you much because of the inflated rate for the short oversized load.
Seeing this late but you can set up on your spreadsheet for oil changes, filters, pcv maintenance. Estimate cost of filters oil and assorted items or seals and divide by miles between recommended service distance intervals. Owner's manual will give you all of the intervals and you can estimate things like shocks, brakes, tires, light bulbs
I've been considering getting into the hotshot trucking. I'm curious as to your thoughts on buying vs leasing a truck. According to another youtuber, Tow Piglet, he suggests leasing through Enterprise. He says that with leasing, you can basically get a new truck every 60,000 miles and you don't have to worry so much about repairs. Just wondering your thoughts on the subject.
@@Bgl-fz3cs depends on owner operator situation, if you are new , insurance is tough, Progressive only real competitor so you need to lease on under someone else #, but enterprise provides insurance, if buy new can pay for bumper to bumper warranty but need great credit, getting insurance with home in AL whole lot cheaper than NJ, enterprise gives new truck if need repair opposed to warranty you are out of work for 60 days because no parts coming out of OEM…
I enjoy your content, and am learning and am looking into do this myself , working on getting a truck, and then a trailer. I know it's a process, but I will make it. Especially getting the information from different videos. Thank you.
Great information. It would be great if you could keep all your income instead of giving the company 30%. Is there a way to get rid of the company and still find loads?
Yeah that's the ultimate goal is to get my own authority.... Starting a business it's not cheap and takes time. This is my way to grow to the next level. Thanks for watching!
Big bro I really want to thank you for these videos I'm getting ready to go started in th next 2 months and you've giving me alot of insite and I'm very thankful for you!!!
You need to add your truck GVW to your trailers registered GVW. If your total gross combined weight rating (GCWR) is over 26000lbs. You need a CDL. Most pickup trucks with a gooseneck trailer fall into this category. I learned the hard way….
Thanks brother I appreciate the feedback! My wife put it together for me in google sheets bro, I’m trying to have her create a downloadable link so I can share it 🙌🏽
If you can afford to pay an extra thousand towards principal car note do it. I don't truck but I find it easier and faster to pay off vehicles by matching car note or better towards principal. Pay vehicle off ASAP so creditor gets as little intrest as possible from you.
At the end of the day you got something stable money for rent bills food on the table and some for every week going out for a drive i really want to get into this
Awesome video my man but honestly all I have ascertained from this video is that you need to fire your dispatcher and learn how to dispatch and plan your own route because they are cutting into your profit margins... If you can organize this video as well as you did I'm sure you can find a load board like Central dispatch and plan a load going to your destination and one coming back to maximize profitability. You basically could have added an extra 6K to your bottom line.
At the time of this video I was literally starting in the industry and I was leased on. To be honest I appreciate your feedback, however I wouldn't trade the experience I got while I was leased on under another company. For me it was the experience !
70/30?? Ouch. I'm with someone at 90/10. Hopefully You find someone else eventually or even better go to work for yourself. At least that's my plan.. Great content!
Thanks for the feedback man. I’m actually pretty happy with 70/30 for everything they do. Is your insurance covered? All paperwork handled by them? Are they dispatching you? Getting all your permits? Factoring? Fuel card? Etc? Just wondering what your getting for that 20%
@@HotshotMacc insurance covered, paperwork, dispatching, no fuel card bc I use my own but it was offered, factoring next day, no forced dispatch, and permits when needed. I basically drive and say when I want to drive and how long I wanna stay out.
@@HotshotMacc last week's pay was gross 7,400. This week will be 6,100 bc I was in a crappy area to start off. I like doing 2 long trips a week or 3 trips with 2 being short. No cdl but been studying during down time to get it soon. Started non cdl to see if I liked driving, which I do
@@grovesiderabbit Man thats damn good, hard to believe they are doing all that for just 10%. Dispatching alone can be up to 10% but that’s some good numbers bro! My next step it to probably be on my own and like you, I went this route to see if I liked it and I do as well!
I've been trying to get my stuff started for a couple years now I already have company licensed dot numbers and all that what do you mean you lease through a company I haven't heard of that
Leasing to a company you don’t need ur own dot number you run under there’s and they’ll get a % of whatever you make I pay the company I’m with 25% of each load but they provide the trailer and all the other paperwork that’s needed to stay legal (factoring) is included also(how you get paid for loads)
@@andrewblackmon6251 very informative thank you man I wish I would have known that before I got my own authority leasing would have been a good way to start 👍
Leasing into a company it's a good way to start with a lower overhead and less responsibilities while you learn the business. There's a lot to learn in order to run a professional and profitable hotshot business.
Look man. Invest in pin locks. Many welders out there love these type pf custom jobs on a trailer. I load these all the time 40s and 20 footers. It's just like a chassis 40 seconds and your loaf is secured.

@@ramboyant3297 when you factor in insurance, factoring, compliance, dispatching you get pretty close to 30%. Just depends on which way you wanna go. You can get 20% or less but you will have to pay insurance and it may be forced dispatch. Everyones needs are different.
How can I get hooked with a company if I wanted to do what your doing I have 3500 truck so I would like some advice you are a good inspiration brother I’m proud to see you doing what you do
@@HotshotMacc no problem. A good rule of thumb is that you want to have enough money in there to replace the engine, trans, or any other major parts. Mainly the power train or to have enough saved up you can either buy a new truck outright or a large enough down payment you don’t have to worry about a massive payment. I’m just looking at the same way I do as a truck as driver.

Estimate cost of filters oil and assorted items or seals and divide by miles between recommended service distance intervals. Owner's manual will give you all of the intervals and you can estimate things like shocks, brakes, tires, light bulbs
Great suggestion!
Just 5% reserve from each payment to separate savings account for all maintenance and repairs
Why not just finance a truck and trade it in when it hits 100k miles? Same concept but it’s your truck so you can customize it the way you like.
@@botomusprime6238 with lease, no maintenance no repairs no insurance
@@joemeyer2726 so leasing outweighs financing for hotshot in your opinion?

I enjoy your content, and am learning and am looking into do this myself , working on getting a truck, and then a trailer. I know it's a process, but I will make it. Especially getting the information from different videos. Thank you.
Great information. It would be great if you could keep all your income instead of giving the company 30%. Is there a way to get rid of the company and still find loads?
Yeah that's the ultimate goal is to get my own authority.... Starting a business it's not cheap and takes time. This is my way to grow to the next level. Thanks for watching!
I'm in Houston as well. Was looking to get into Hot Shot. Appreciate the content and info. man! Look forward to more videos.
I’m not hot shottin.. yet.. but nice video. Keep em coming. Good luck on the road!
You’ll be on the road before you know it! Thanks for the support 💪🏽💯
Big bro I really want to thank you for these videos I'm getting ready to go started in th next 2 months and you've giving me alot of insite and I'm very thankful for you!!!
Glad the videos help. Continue to doing that research with the current market. Appreciate the feedback!!
Just noticed you delivered to Cloquet MN which is where I live. Very neat!
I love that area
i had the same thought, I live in Lino Lakes but travel up north to the range often
You need to add your truck GVW to your trailers registered GVW. If your total gross combined weight rating (GCWR) is over 26000lbs. You need a CDL. Most pickup trucks with a gooseneck trailer fall into this category. I learned the hard way….
Yes, I am fully aware of the GCWR, Thanks for sharing
What software did you use to get your stat sheet laid out perfectly like that? Great video and knowledge!
That’s a good idea.
I am a logistics broker with hotshot loads all the time in AL, Pa, and IL. let's link-up. I appreciate great drivers.

Great breakdown. Stumbled onto this video by accident and now a new subscriber and gonna binge the channel 😆. Keep up with the great content.
Welcome to my channel and thanks for the support!
With write-offs, you may get a refund and the money you saved for taxes will be a welcomed bonus. Keep up the great videos!
That’s what I’m hearing so that would be a nice bonus depending on how it works out when tax time comes. Thanks for that confirmation lol 🙌🏽
That’s great you are open minded and willing to learn which will allow you to grow. You really helped me.
Rule of a trucker always put minume of $200 every week for repairs.
Facts!
When did driving a regular truck make you a trucker 🤦🏾♂️
@@larry7888 the rule should apply even if you're driving for uber always save for maintenance you grumpy fuck
well presented! If you like travel it seems to pay well. Invest in yourself for your future.
@@grovesiderabbit wow that’s pretty good. What are you grossing a week and are you cdl or non cdl?
@@HotshotMacc last week's pay was gross 7,400. This week will be 6,100 bc I was in a crappy area to start off. I like doing 2 long trips a week or 3 trips with 2 being short. No cdl but been studying during down time to get it soon. Started non cdl to see if I liked driving, which I do
@@grovesiderabbit Man thats damn good, hard to believe they are doing all that for just 10%. Dispatching alone can be up to 10% but that’s some good numbers bro! My next step it to probably be on my own and like you, I went this route to see if I liked it and I do as well!
Thanks for the detailed breakdown. That helps a lot of us considering this. Thanks for sharing
Glad it was helpful!
Hey man congrats! What company are you leased under?
Currently a cdl A holder but my training almost over and I was considering hotshot because semis come with a ton of risks
You are so detailed/organized!! Just followed you in ig!! Great job!! Thank you
Hey, thank you for the feedback! And yes my wife told me! Glad your getting some value from us!
Name the video "How to increase competition."
That’s a small minded statement.
@@HotshotMacc Okie dokie. I have seen "shipping wars" and decided the last thing you need is more competition. Good luck.
@@SeaPro360 haha I like shipping wars. I see what you are saying but this is a bit different. The competition out here dissolves on its own. This is not for everyone. Thanks for watching 🙏🏽
I love the details.
That's a lot of work for the pay. You'll earn more in an 18 wheeler.
Possibly... Step by step my man!
The truck industry is bread for everyone
%30 is a lot for the company to take. %20 is much more reasonable
That's what I was thinking. 30% for dispatch pay?? Pretty excessive I think.
If you know a company that charges 20% with dispatching services, handling all paperwork and insurance? Please share it in the comments! Thanks
never heard 30% for dispatch etc I'll ask around for more info with my family they all owner ops. Car hauling and dry vans etc. Even for hotshot 30 is excessive
@@ramboyant3297 when you factor in insurance, factoring, compliance, dispatching you get pretty close to 30%. Just depends on which way you wanna go. You can get 20% or less but you will have to pay insurance and it may be forced dispatch. Everyones needs are different.
@@joetalley192 30% is not only for dispatching. I did a video solely about that.
Great stuff man. Keep on the grind!
Thanks, will do!
Dang bro that is pretty good right there in less than a month a little over $6000. That is pretty good for hotshoting.
Maaaannnn thank you so much... much love and blessings to you and your family brother 🙏. This was a great video.
How can I get hooked with a company if I wanted to do what your doing I have 3500 truck so I would like some advice you are a good inspiration brother I’m proud to see you doing what you do
A safe maintenance fund is normally 10% of your weekly amount. Some do a flat rate of 500 a week.
Thanks for the information bro!
That’s great .. I’m definitely going to have to look at doing this especially since I’m probably going to have to give up my CDL
Go for it!
Even if you are not using the CDL, you can maintain it
Ball Louisiana? Idk why that shocked me but you were right in my town lol such a small no name town too 😅
This is what our communities need to do for some our people educate brother and calculate

Great content. I do have a question as to how you are getting commercial truck and trailer insurance for under $200 per month?
At first, thanks for sharing,I would like to know if in hot-shot business still needed the logbook, scales etc
You did great as far as you are only less than a month old on the road .This is great inspiration for me n anyone who has plans to do hotshot ,thanks bro .
What's the size of your trailer ?
Thanks bro! That’s good to hear man, ill keep it up and hope it helps others out. My trailer is 32ft.
This video is great. But my question is wondering what type of insurance would I need. I heard you say you have Geico coverage for your truck and trailer. But do you have cargo insurance?
Thanks! This is just the physical damage. At the time the company I was leased on covered the commercial insurance cargo and liability. Hope that helps!
✊🏾🤜🏿🤛🏾 i also started a trucking business this year it’s been a long rd but u have to stay positive love the video

QUEENS FLIP!!_ IS THAT YOU??
Thanks for these awesome videos and for all the info. What company did you lease on with? I'm looking to lease on. Thanks!
Just doing our best. We put our company partners on the website www.macctransportandlogistics.com/ourpartners
I’ve done flatbed work for 10 years and I just bought a truck and waiting to buy a trailer
Where do you start to look for a good company to run for?
I would start on google and indeed. Just do the research on the company you find. If you have a CDL we lease on owner operators so we be an option for you.
I work in operations for a logistics company and would love to own my own hotshot company
Any combination vehicle, trailer Capable of OVER 10,000lbs, is Commercial and requires a CDL License....
You need CDL license over GVW 26000 lbs.
Not in my state bro
Glad you’re doin well bro!! Hope you got your truck back up and goin
