My husband is a weekend pilot, and every time he sees one of your husband's videos he always says "that poor guy". But thank you for clearing up a lot of misunderstandings about flying. The scariest part of the trip is always the drive to and from the airport!

Your video on turbulence changed my flying life. On my most recent trip, we experienced turbulence, and my friend, who has flown much more than I have, was afraid and I was not. My friend was sitting in the window seat and told me that she felt the aircraft "cave in," and we did experience a little "dip." The woman across from me had her head on the back of the seat in front of her. Thank you for this series!
One problem is, we could barely hear the pilot over the engine noise. Is there a way to crank up the volume in the cabin? It literally sounded like a drive through speaker. This is a complain on more than one flight.

    • @TravelTipsbyLaurie

Many years ago we had a friend of a friend who we'd see every few months who was a pilot. He has since sadly died of cancer. He was a party animal when not flying! He always had funny stories and one time at a party he was drunk and he told me this: "I probably shouldn't tell you this, but I can't remember how many times I've woken up over the North Pole and everyone else was asleep!" (He used to fly to Asia). I decided then and there never to ask a pilot another question!!

im in australia... is there any planes you dont like flying?
I fell in love with Antonov 225... I believe it wasn't destroyed but the duplicate in the hanger was... shame because it was nearly ready..
im doing a drone pilot licence and theres so much we need to know like a pilot.. like the radio jargon, checking weather etc..
I could sit and watch planes take off and land all day.. I also just love the airport and people watch.. would this cause a drama with security? would they be watching me watching others?

Thank you both for your expertise in aviation. You both are so adorable!
My 21 year old son has now completed all is type rating for Envoy and has pass both check airmen flights!
? If I may ask your husband a question please…
The Captain whom he was just recently flying with told my son that he had never experienced this before, where when my son landed the plane his landing was so extremely smooth that the plane didn’t even recognize the landing so there were some sort of confusion with the plane. I don’t remember what they had to do but it wasn’t anything serious, it was just rare.
    This has now happened twice!
I’m sure your Has experienced this and if so, would he explain? Maybe simplify this for me🤣..
My son has been flying since he was fifteen and he’s honestly well known for his butter smooth landings, but this seems strange to me!
He has over 2000 flying hrs. 🙏🏻✈️

I went on several flights in 2020 & 21 where noone sat in the emergency row. I was asked to move there as I travelled alone but as I already had three seats to myself I declined. Extra leg room is great as I'm tall but not being able to have a personal item bag on the floor annoys me. One flight summer 21 there were 10 of us on the flight from Spain to SW England.

Laurie, I've flown several times, even to Hawaii and back, but never used the restroom on a plane. Here comes the weird question - Could you sometime show us how to enter and exit the restroom, and even how to flush the toilet? (No, not actually use it, lol) Just show it how it works. I would like to know how it all works - just in case I do have to use one sometime. My son-in-law is a commercial airline pilot, but I'm too embarrassed to ask him. 😂

the most complicated thing is the door latch system. there will be an occupied/open sign on the door, and if it says open (or whatever variant) you should be able to just turn or pull the latch to get in, and then there will be a handle to turn or slide to latch the door behind you. every plane I've used the lavatory on has had the flush control prominently marked. they've done their best to make it not confusing, so remind yourself it is just your anxieties talking, and you can handle it.

    • @TravelTipsbyLaurie
      @TravelTipsbyLaurie  6 месяцев назад +1

I did make a short about it a few months back. The key is to read the sign by the door knob. You slide the button one way or the other to open and then it has an arrow for which way you slide it to lock it when you are on the inside.

Pilot Husband, am I a fool, because each time I enter the air, I pity my pre20th century ancestors who only dreamed of flying? I used to fly a lot during graduate school, but every time we flew over towns and fields, I felt like I was cheating nature, even when a baby was crying near my head.

@@TravelTipsbyLaurie How long does it seem to take most people to no longer be impressed with flying? Historically, flying is pretty weird, but people seem to get used to anything.
