This was a great video. Your husband is such a sweet fellow and a true romantic! Thanks for the info .... he spoke about keeping the passengers updated....we always love when the pilot comes on and lets know the route we will be flying, what cities we are passing over, etc. If it is a clear day we love to look out the window to see the sights below and know where we are!
You two are a sweet couple! Thanks for all the info. My husband and I have a trip planned to St. Lucia for his retirement. We fly direct from Chicago O'hare Airport. It's always so difficult coming back with an international flight there. Any tips to help us through? Thankful you came through your surgery well. God bless🙏❤
Yes the route I used to fly to South Africa would often take us over Antartica which I always want to see but only twice has a pilot announced it. Now I ask the flight attendants to let me know.
From fallopian tubes to turbulence to meteors to will u marry me, you guys covers it all, bravo. And if all the pilots are like this guy we got nothing to worry about up there. Thanks so much.
I came here to say how nice and clear it was. I'm legally blind and it us do cool to have a better image of what the pilot sees in the dashboard. Thanks to both of you for that.
The story about his mom leaving him is so sweet. Before 9/11 (I was a college kid) I would go to the airport gate area to watch the airplanes take off and land. I'm not a pilot. I don't know anything about planes. I'm just mesmerized with their ability to take people places in the air. It's fascinating to me.
My Dad was a military pilot and then commercial. When he got older he would have a check list to leave his house. It would take him a hour and a half to leave his house. He didn’t trust himself not to forget something.
Absolutely fascinating! Thank you both for this real eye-opener. My favourite stories are how he spent time as a kid expressing a passion for flight, and how he proposed to you. This video has been a great treat!
You’re a lucky lady, he’s just adorable. Thank you for all that information. Glad to see you’re doing well, continue to recover Laurie, you’re looking great.
I’m glad you’re recovering well. I appreciated him taking the time to answer some questions. He seems like a very sweetheart and a romantic. I wish you and you family the best.
Love this Q&A episode...in December, one of the major airlines was delayed and when the pilot arrived at the gate he came to speak on the microphone asking everyone to be patient and acknowledging that the passenger's frustration. I love it when they keep us informed. thank you...
My Dad was a commercial pilot. It’s a hard job. My Brother was also a commercial pilot. His irritation was when passengers are walking and they stop in their tracks in front of him. I reminded him that they pay his mortgage.
@Jamie K Carney - Well I have to agree with your brother and has little to do with whether they’re paying his motor not. Just as a passenger I see people doing similar as they operate in the “ME ONLY” zone. We all need to be cognizant of others as they’re also trying to get to their destinations.
He’s absolutely adorable! Thanks for the info and insight! People often don’t take the time to say thanks for the sacrifices ie being away from your family. Aviation is a strenuous career…make sure you take ME time! Thanks Laurie for sharing!
Thanks for the great video! My husband flies as a private pilot (not a career, just a hobby) and what I’ve noticed about all the pilots we know, including many retired commercial is how much they LOVE (seriously love❤ aviation!) Your husband has that same sparkle in his eye when talking about aviation. So sweet 🥰
How absolutely delightful! I thoroughly enjoyed all of your husband’s insight into a pilot’s life. You really got a good one, Laurie - smart as a whip and cute as a button. Yes, I’m Southern. Of course, he got a really good one, too! Glad to see you looking so healthy and happy after your surgery.
So fun to watch this. Been flying as an airline pilot for over 20 years now, and I think my answers would be quite similar to what he has said. I spent many years flying passengers, but went cargo during the pandemic, and absolutely love it. Far more relaxed IMHO. Spent many years on the A320, and absolutely love that airplane. Really am enjoying the 747 though.
Excellent Job!!!! This was a great Q&A. That was a romantic proposal he did for you. I hope everyone got a good insight into commercial aviation from the pilot's point of view. We were both Army pilots when we met (wife of a retired DFW pilot) and can relate to the same experiences you talked about. Glad you are feeling better.
Thanks so much to both of you for a great video! I especially appreciated you mentioning the pre-flight checklist: many hospital ORs adopted the airlines’ practice into a “Time Out” that is performed before every surgical case, so this old OR RN thanks you! Now I’d love to know if your husband ever spoke with “Kennedy Steve,” the hilarious Air Traffic Controller at JFK (he’s featured in SO many RUclips videos). Glad you’re feeling better, Laurie, & thanks for all of your videos!
My youngest son thought about being a pilot, and got his degree in Aerospace Technology, but ended up joining the service and is now a Lt. Col. in the Air Force. Really enjoyed this. I somehow missed your surgery, thankful you are doing well. I went thru mine at 31, young but I felt so much better afterwards.
Oh… and my grand-daughter is always afraid to fly and she calls my husband (a Pilot) Mikey… And Mikey always tells her “Maci, the Pilot ALWAYS wants to get home safely just as much as YOU do”!! She says that really helps her stress level!!! Lol❤️✈️❤️
We flew to PDX, connecting through IAH in September and I wondered if your hubby was one of our pilots. We gift our pilots and FA’s with candy and little treats, and say, “Thank you for keeping us safe❣️”
The one route I will never fly again is ABQ to Denver. Always a damn storm or heavy (for passenger flights) turbulence, all over mountains. My last flight was horrid and though I hate DFW it’s the better option.
You two are very sweet together! An incident of bad turbulence stopped me from flying for about 15 years.Wish I could have heard from your husband then! I appreciate his thoughtful answers and your recovery from surgery.
I'm not afraid to die so i look at turbulence as a free rollercoaster ride. all joking aside, I want to thank you for your videos. I went to Tenerife in November, and i'm so grateful i watched your videos, you helped me so much to do carryon only and with all the protocols of travel. I would have felt like a complete idiot without your guidance. Im planning a 4 week euro trip to Barcelona, Vigo spain, Galecia , Orense,(portugal) Porto , Lisbon and London. and I can only thank you for helping me get everything together. you are wonderful!
Thank you for this video it's so informative. I'm never afraid to fly. But I know some people are terrified. Giving this info helps with some of the anxiety. Love your channel ❤️
Just found your channel as we prepare to fly to Maui (from Va) next week going carry on only, your tips are so helpful. I enjoyed this video, very insightful. My teen son has a huge interest in aviation, I’m gonna share this video with him. You two are a lovely couple, and your fur baby is precious!
So nicely done Laurie! Your husband did a fantastic job with all of the questions. Much appreciated by all your followers Be sure to take time to recover. Treat yourself well.
i'm preparing for my 2nd flight ever and my first flight internationally to see my daughter in Austria. This is your best video ever. Thank you to you and your husband for informing me and easing my personal concerns. You have helped me enormously
Your husband is so honest concern of the passenger! hope other pilots feel that way! I love listening to your podcast! You are advising from your experience! Thank you !
How fun to get to know you both better! You make a good match! You are both great communicators and very personable. Totally enjoyed this video and thank you for sharing with us❤
Thank you both for the informational video. I've flown standby since I was a kid in 50's-70's. My dad was a dispatcher. I started around 4y/o on DC--3s. We kids thought turbulence was great fun. We always laughed. So the 1st thing I still do is smile.
I had no idea that you could only fly one kind of plane at a time. Your husband was sweet to do the q &a! Thank you for asking and answering about longer flights and the need for more pilots for over the 8 hour shift. My husband is an over the road truck driver and I understand about not planning things for when he first gets home so he can get back to home life quick before leaving again. Thank you for the video! Happy to hear about your recovery going well!
Thank you for this very informative interview. I hate turbulence and I’m sure a lot of people do too. I’m relieved that he said turbulences are normal and nothing to be scared of.
Your husband is so sweet. My nephew is a pilot for a regional carrier of a large airlines. I bet your husband is a terrific mentor to younger pilots. Stat well Laurie
Great video! I love flying with my husband who is a retired Navy carrier pilot. If he’s not nervous with all the bumps and scary noises, then I’m ok, too. 🤗
I was on a flight to Florida about 20 years ago and we had to fly through hurricane remnants. The pilot warned us that it would be a bumpy ride. About 3/4 of the way into the flight he announced everyone seated with seatbelts. He said there was no way around it just had to go through it. The turbulence was so bad coffee pots were falling and passengers were crying. I asked a business passenger next to me if this was normal. He said this is excessive. I was so scared! I suddenly thought let’s have fun with this. So when the plane would drop I’d throw my arms up like on a roller coaster and go woo hoo! When we landed the pilot came on the intercom and said now you don’t need to ride the rides at the theme parks as you already rode them. True story!
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie I guess things were different 20+ years ago. I have noticed that the pilots are so much better at avoiding turbulence the last few years that I’ve been flying. Even into Florida! Somehow they are finding smooth air. It’s been great!
What a great video! Thanks to your husband for being such a nice guy and willing to share on your video. Loved hearing about your dating and his proposal. What a thrill!
My Sister and i are going on a rhine cruise in November. Neither one of us like to fly. I am just praying and want to trust the Lord and asked him for his comfort and peace about it.
You answered one of my questions about flying internationally. I am flying to London/ Heathrow from IAH and I was a bit worried when you said they can only fly 8 hours! You have put my mind at ease. Loved the video 😊

Your husband's mother did an awesome thing for her young son!
Didn't she?!!!
As a teacher of the visually impaired, I have to applaud your hubs for his descriptions of the flight deck! 🙌🏼👊🏻

I appreciate all the people who work in the airports, pilots and crew. It can be very stressful especially these days with unruly passengers.

They do; on dates he will say, "Let's talk about aviation." I'm kidding but it seems like it.

OMG you guys are too cute!!!!! I love how patient he is with answering questions and how you can just see the love between you two! :) LOVE IT!!
Please express my appreciation for his professionalism and for doing what he does! It takes a lot of courage and intelligence to be a pilot.
I agree! No way could I do that. I am so proud that he talks to passengers.
Loved this Video. Tell the hubby that his answers were delightful to hear. His perspective is nice to learn about.

Thx!! I do have a video called Scared to Fly.
I appreciate so much when the pilot comes on and speak to the passengers. That makes me feel confident that he is alive and well and everything is OK.
I do too; I wish more pilots were comfortable doing that.
Thank you! Very informative!
Glad it was helpful!

It is so scary mid flight!
I very much enjoyed this video. Laurie, you have a very handsome and articulate hubby. Thanks!
Oh thank you!

I leave my seat belt on the whole flight, turbulence freaks me out!!! But I just hold on and pray.

This was awesome. Thanks so much. You answered all my questions.
Your husband’s story about wanting to fly could be my brother’s story. Yes, he works for a major airline now.
I look at the staff, flight attendants, and if they seem calm then I’m calm.
Such a great video...A BIG thanks to your Husband!!!
