Thanks so much! How cool that you received this car as a Christmas gift! Wow! DO you still have it? Thanks so much for watching, commenting and subscribing, I really appreciate it!
Thank you for making this video! Wow! It brought back SO many memories of that Christmas 54 years ago...As a 7 year old I remember wanting this toy more than anything in the world. It was the ULTIMATE gift and was unrealistic for a family of our income level. When I caught my Dad (by surprise) loading that partially wrapped HUGE box into the trunk of our '58 Chevy for our holiday trip to be with our relatives...I was shocked and absolutely could not believe it. I was beside myself in excitement, joy and utter disbelief! Fortunately for us our Mom saved and preserved many, many things from our childhood including many toys. After watching your video I HAD to retrieve my Johnny Speed from storage. I'm now doing some cleaning and minor restoration work . The only missing part is one of the whitewall rings on one tire. Which I am very much hoping to replace. Otherwise it is in overall VERY good condition and this old "kid" can't wait to play with it again! Thanks again! 👍
Rob, I'm so pleased that this video helped to rekindle such wonderful memories! Great to hear that you still have the car and that you are bringing your 'Johnny Speed' back to life! These toys were made quite well and with a little bit of TLC are back in action! Thanks so much for watching, commenting and subscribing!
Oh this is glorious!!! A friend had one when I was about ten years old and I thought it was the MOST fantastic thing ever. Sadly it seldom worked as the batteries were always flat. I am rather shocked to discover just how expensive this car was, as my friend's family were far from well-off.
I'm so pleased that you enjoyed this episode! This car was quite expensive for its time and certainly drained batteries at an alarming rate! Thanks so much for watching, commenting and subscribing I really appreciate your support!
I had this car up until recently. I got this car for Christmas when I was 9 years old. I just sold this to a guy who sells junk. Mine still worked perfectly too. Best toy ever. ❤️

Wow, that took me back to the joy and misery that can be Christmas. We did not have a lot of money growing up, but there was always a "special gift" to go with the socks, mittens, and underwear. We were able to open the gift of choice on Christmas Eve, and I of course, chose to open this one, suspecting that my Johnny Speed was inside. At first, I was a little disappointed that the cord was only about 6 feet long, since the ads on Tv didn't show it at all. I soon got over that and was happily playing with it when my dad accidently stepped on it, and all four wheels broke. After that, it resided in his workshop for a few years where he assured me he would fix it "some day". That day never came, and when I was 17, I went on a 4 state killing spree....just kidding, but it was frustrating to look at that car with less than an hour's use just sitting on a shelf !!
Thanks so much for sharing your story!! I'm sure that the incident was an accident, as a former youngster and now parent I can empathize with you and your dad! Yes, advertising in the '60s left something to be desired! Do you still have the car? It can be fixed and if you need help to get it mended I would be very willing to help! In the sprit of the season and for your car to come back to life, I make this as a sincere offer.
Fun video I remember the sixties had such cool toys and commercials. My older brothers had race tracks and I remember I had an older brother who got the Johnny Speed for Christmas and it didn't last long as it was the same problem being the battery. I remember that big box.
Wow, memories! I still have mine, one of the best Christmas presents I ever received. I am a car nut! Waiting for my 2 year old grandson to (hopefully) become the next car guy in the family (skipping my son, who is not particularly). Thank you.
