Great job guys!!! I got the Crusader 101 for Christmas in 1964 when I was 10 years old. That car and my Texaco Toy Tanker (which you purchased at the gas station) were my 2 all time favorites followed by the REMCO Skydiver which was also huge. I passed them onto my sons and now I believe my grandson has it. 56 years of use...I say my parents got their money's worth.
I was born in 63. The TV commercials were in black and white as many people still owned a black and white TV as color TV were more expansive. The toys back then required lots of imagination. The world has changed more in the last 50 years more then the previous. Thanks to the transistor. The toys back then may be boring to kids today, but we did have lots of fun.
What a great video! You have some valuable collectors items. I remember seeing most of the commercials for them when I was a kid. Thanks, and Merry Christmas!
I had a few of those toys as a kid. I'm 64 now and wish I still had them. What a great video to bring back such great memories. Thank you for doing this for us "old folks"
WOW! I just had a flashback to the old A&P supermarket on Flatbush Ave, looking at the X-Mas toys displayed above the fruit and vegetable aisle. My brother received a Playmobile that we used to "drive" all around the world from our kitchen table. Thanks for the memories!
Great memories from the Topper Toy Company. They were in Elizabeth, N.J . When I was a little kid, my parents neighbor worked there and she would bring me home toys from there.Wish I still had some of them. Thank you.
Ray Del Rosario ........Your welcome. If I'm not mistaken, I think they were located down by the waterfront. The reason I say that is because my father drove her to work there a few times and I went him and I seem to remember the building being by the water. I could be mistaken but what do you expect from a little kid that was not even in school yet. Lolol. I was just happy to get in the car and go for a ride.
Excellent compilation of toys! I had the Johnny Express truck as a kid. Thanks for the history, with real-life demonstrations, with the original marketing commercials as well. First time viewer! Great presentation of the history of these toys. I still have some of my original Topper Johnny Lightning cars that were only produced from 1970-72.
Wow! Great Job On Your Video, I was born in 1955, so I remember all these toys & the TV ads! I never will forget what my Mother said about the TV ads, "Remember you don't get the theme song when you buy the toy!" David From Calif.
I remember drooling over some of these exact toys from the earlier half of the 60s. I never had any of them - but I did get to play with my cousin's fighter plane simulator. Sure it was junk, but back then, imagination was the biggest part of it - LoL. THANK YOU for helping bring my childhood memories alive for a few minutes. Your efforts are praisworthy - helping to preserve a segment of history.
Excellent video with a nice mix of current shots combined with the original advertising. I really enjoyed it !! I still have the Playmobile dashboard shown at the beginning of the video. I also had the Johnny Express forklift and cargo. I never got the truck but I remember it as well as the Crusader. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Thank you guys very much! We (me, brothers, and all other kids in the 'hood) saw all these toy commercials. We asked for these toys for birthdays ans X mas presents. We as small boys YEARNED for these toys! Our folks were not stupid. They bought us toys that would last forever, not cheap plastic!! They gave us Tonka Toys!! Serious steel!!! Lasts forever!!!
I still have my Johnny-Astro. When I got it I had trouble getting the balloon up in the air off the included flight pad. I took the toy next door to show it off and was amazed when the man next door got it up in the air quickly and was able to control it. As I recall it could be moved up about 3 feet or so and then with skill brought back to a landing on the flight pad if you cut the fan quickly enough! I also had the Johnny Express Flatbed truck and recall the commercials where the announcer said you could stand on it! The remote control was impressive to me as a kid. Your brothers are cute kids! I enjoyed your presentation!
Great Job Guys!!!!!! You did that very professionally, I am interested in 60's toys, because I had them when I was a kid in the 60's. I think it is great that you guys have seen and played with these....I really enjoyed your video, Thank You
I was born in 1962 and did see these toys by 1969 still around ..so yes I seen them as a 7 yr old kid brings back the memories.. We didn't have iPad nor Xbox but I had hours of fun with these toys.
Thanks for the video. I got the crusader 101 for Christmas in the 60's. It eventually was destroyed like most kids do with toys. My son bought me another Crusader 101 on line. This one wont be trashed.60 year old kid.
I loved your video, thanks for sharing!!!! I had a crusader 101 car, back in 1971/72 given to me by my older cousins, I was about 6 years old and my older brother 23 years old at the time, Had a 1964 Lincoln Continental. So the crusader 101, like you said in your video, reminded me of his LINCOLN, especially the tail lights!!!!
I had the Battle Wagon ship! I had forgotten all about it. What a fantastic video! Thanks for taking me back. I remember all most all of these toys from TV and my friends. Everybody had at least one toy that needed batteries but everything else was kid powered! Great times.
Man I remember the Jonny Express truck from back then. One night in early 1966 when we were at the old White Front store in San Fernando, CA., I tried to convince my Dad and Granpa that I had seen a truck with two kids standing on it, but I couldn't remember the name. They bought me a Texaco fire truck instead, which was the company my Granpa worked for...
Great job on the video and those toys are in fantastic shape. I had, the Crusader, Johnny Express, and the Jaguar. They were my favorite toys at the time. Wish I would have kept them. Thanks for the memories!
LOVE this video. Great job of combining commercials with live-action from your own collection, and the history of Topper Toys. I love toys from this company, probably because as a child I received the 'Crusader 101', as a complete surprise, one Christmas. I loved it, but eventually got rid of it ... but have since obtained a replacement ... and many other toys from this company. Thank you so much for making this video!
Thank you for this outstanding video! The history of Topper was interesting to me. My grandfather worked for Topper Elizabeth, NJ. He would bring me Johnny Lightning cars. Thank you again.
Outstanding job with this video. Brings back a lot of memories. I had the Crusader car, and the Johnny Astro. I remember the car not working very well for very long. But I remember playing with the Johnny Astro well into the early ‘70s. Thanks for posting this.
Great video! I had the Johnny Express, the Lincoln looking car, and the Jaguar....loved them all. God I wish I saved them. I took really good care of my stuff, but they're all gone😫My grandsons would have loved them
Man, that was a really cool video. At 58 years old I must have missed these when I was a kid because I don't remember any of them but had I known about them I would have drove my Mom crazy for her to buy these toys. I bet in todays market place these toys would be highly sought after as collectables. Thanks for sharing that.
applause and kudos you kids are great. A shout out to your grand parents(?) parents for keeping these classic toys for so many years, and teaching you what a toy really is.
Great job guys, you brought back a lot of memories. I received that exact Playmobile for Christmas when I was about seven. And yes I saw it in a small grocery store called Ganna's. I told my father how much I liked it, and on Christmas morning there it was (from Santa of course).
What Fun'' to take a trip down memory lane!!! Thank you Guys' for the Detailed informative trip''' There were Topper Toys that you described' that I actually Forgot that I had!! wow! thanks again! ;)
Wow you guys got some super cool toys and you have kept them in immaculate condition. These could be part of your retirement fund because they’re all collectors items and they’re all in perfect shape
Excellent video. Thank you for putting it together and with all the research (I did not know they initially sold only to food stores) and the commercials. It was also neat seeing those from your collection in action. Thanks!!
You all are so fortunate to have such toys. Over the years I have complained about how they don't make nice things anymore including toys. Though I myself am struggling to build a vintage radio collection, if I had extra money I too would buy vintage toys. I've seen some nice ones come and go on eBay. And you're not wrong playing with them as nothing is forever.
I remember that Johnny Express and Tiger Joe ad. Watched that Luna one a few times, then remembered that "touchdown" scene with the basket assembly ot the base. Funny how stuff like that comes back to you. I was only about 4 or 5 when these were made. Never had the toys themselves though. Thanks guys! Good video!
The toys back then imaged the real stuff our fathers and other men drove and used. I got to say the toys back then kicked ass! I myself had a burgundy red VW Beetle that puffed smoke and had working headlights rear lights and indicator lights. My big brother had a whole cowboy town with buildings wagons horses cow boys sheriff and his deputys and outlaws from the 60's.
I was born in 1959 in Canada and I got Johnny Express for Christmas one year. I had many hours of fun, and when I grew up I became a long haul big rig driver.
So cool thank you for a trip down memory lane. I had the Johnny Express truck . I remember the water tank and the flat bed. The driver was rubbery I remember. I also had the car I guess my mom did her Christmas shopping at the market. I had a tank also but, it was red I remember. Thank you again.
I remember most of these toys. I wanted a Jimmy Jet so badly, then was disappointed when Christmas came in 1962 and no Jimmy Jet. They weren't cheap by any means; the price was close to 13 dollars, which was a healthy chunk of change in the early 60s. My friend ended up getting one, and I was eager to check it out. His mother encouraged us to enjoy it. It made a lot of noise, which you didn't hear during the commercials, and my enthusiasm for it quickly waned. When we visited his family a few weeks later, I asked him about his Jimmy Jet and he said it had broken. I got over my disappointment right then and there.
Great Video! I watched those commercials when they originally aired. That shows my age. I had the tiger tank and still have all of my Topper Tigers action figures and Johnny Seven gun.
Accurate and useful information. I just wish I could have had some of these growing up, but most were either too expensive, or not available at any of our local stores.
Topper Toys had a few factories the main factory was in Elizabeth NJ also 1 in Rhode Island and 1 in the UK (London).I think they had 1 in Canada too.Topper produced some of the most exciting and well built toys of that era! So well built that alot of them can still be found in working condition on ebay.Too bad the company went bankrupt in Dec 1971. There was some inside dirty dealings that caused Topper to close. The company also produced Suzy Homemaker Toy appliances and the King Ding Robot and the Ding-A-Lings. Johnny Lightnings, Dawn Dolls etc, Topper employed thousands of people.I think at 1 time it was equal to or Bigger than Mattel. They gave Mattel a run for their money. Great video guys!
Full Boomer toys. As X gen I had the seventys. A lot of these things were found less than perfect in garage sales. Awsome toys and presentation. Those motors sure were weak. That balloon blower seemed to make a bushing squeal. Dry bushing. I bought some early seventys motorized toys. The motors all squeal. A tiny drop of mineral oil does wonders. If you can reach the motor. Also the tiny pinion gear on the motors are prone to age shrinking and can split off the motor. A found people selling big bags of various gears. (EBay) Its cheap. But I've fixed several OG toys drive gears.
Thanks for the memories fellas,I was that child of the 60's and I remember the tank commercials and the JE commercials.JE is what I wanted but I guess Santa ran out of them before he got to me,LOL!Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all and may God bless you!
I got a Crusader 101 that thing is sooo big including leg room for front and back seats passengers starting with my G I Joe's . I even got one to set behind the steering wheel . My cousin Pam brought over some of her Barbies and they also fit . I also had a large Towetruck that worked well with the car . Nicely done, 1pswrd. I had the Johnny Astro set and subsequently I hooked up the transformer from my Lionel train set to the battery terminals on the Astro controller. Too much juice would have burned out the motor and if the fan spun too fast the airstream would become too diffused so I was constantly looking for a sweet spot to extend Johnny Astro's effective range. I might have doubled the range but I remember now that it became more difficult, if not impossible, to get the balloon back in the air if it was too far away.
Very cool video, and great collection of classic toys. I have seen that red convertible at antique toy shows, they are expensive for a nice one. I imagine most of those toys are now.
whoa!!!! I was young then and never saw most of these !! please get a pettition to get the toy companies to bring back these toys with intricate detail for the kids today. My dad was a toy designer for Mattel back in the day. You really have a great channel .XO !

The front end of the Crusader 101 resembles that of the '62 Mercury.

Thanks for the memories fellas,I was that child of the 60's and I remember the tank commercials and the JE commercials.JE is what I wanted but I guess Santa ran out of them before he got to me,LOL!Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all and may God bless you!
I had one of those Crusader 101 cars that I got for Christmas in the middle sixties, they sold them in the supermarket we shopped for groceries in.
Good job young men! I remember grocery store toys.
Excellent video fellas! I had the Crusader 101 and the USS Battlewagon. Thanks for the memories.
I don't remember what happened to the car but I remember that I really liked it .
There was only one problem with that car as well as other Remote toys .
The wire cable was too short .
I had a jonny speed i loved that car! Thanks for the memories
I love this video. I had the Johnny Speed. Thank you for the nostalgia!!!
