My memory goes waaay back! In the 50-70s, there were many independent toy stores of various sizes. Some specialized in a certain type of toy or an age range. Model cars, planes, etc to assemble. Trains and all the accessories. Dolls with wardrobes, highchairs, bottles, and more. Scientific/learning kits and construction sets from wooden blocks to erector sets. Hobby stores were not common, but near my home there was an outdoor mall called Hobby City. What fun shopping there. I love remembering, but we cannot return to those times. Merry Christmas!!
AWSOME video. Toy stores will always be a childhood of mine, especially Toys R Us even though I talked about that store many times in the past. I still miss it and recently I went to a Macy’s and there was a toys r us store n store, so that was AWSOME!!!! What an great video to end 2022 and to many more in 2023. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, and as always have a great day😊👍 See you in 2023 🎉❤
Yeah same with the one I went to, even though it’s back it’s still isn’t the same like the big box ones we used to have, I’ll miss those days in the early 2010s. 😞
Yes the holiday is near and for the toys stores they will be booming with customers. Sadly we will have to say goodbye to these fellow toy stores that were a domination in the 90s, 2000s, and even 2010s. What good troopers they were. These stores will be missed by many kids and adults.
My favorite toy store was Dispensa's Kiddie Kingdom, in Oakbrook IL. They had a mini amusement park and the Castle of Toys. The Dispensa family had been in the traveling carnival attractions business and started the amusement park when they retired from the original business. This was the most awesome place a kid could go... Every ride a quarter, six for a dollar!
Oh yes!! You could see it from the highway, with the enormous toy soldiers lit up at night!! It was always such a big treat to visit. Thanks for the reminder.
I remember some of the Toy Stores in this video. Since I live in Detroit,Michigan and there was one Toy Store. The name of the Toy's name was Union Coop Toy Stores. The Union Coop Toy Store chain had stores in the inner city of Detroit. In the early 1970's and Union Coop Toy Stores have closed permanently.
Kids are now using tablets and game systems more than they play with actual toys. I wonder if KB and TRU should’ve created it’s own branded merch and digital products.
Argh! My sister worked at a Children's Palace in north Houston to put herself through college. I remember how she would drag herself home late on Christmas Eve and sleep almost through Christmas day. It was a beating! After she graduated, she never worked retail again!
Fates of my local toys r us locations. Exton - Now a Raymour & Flanagan Outlet Store Lancaster - Now a Pediatric Child Care Center Philadelphia - Now a Burlington

I can only imagine. Working retail sucks during the holidays. Especially Black Friday.
