I’ve experienced this during these past months this year and one of my scary thoughts I had was “I forgot how to sleep”, I thought deep down that sleep is a normal thing and I thought I shouldn’t be thinking this way because sleeping is like breathing air, it’s like asking “how do you breathe for air?” And I didn’t wanted to be seen as weird to people, my dad even told me “Meena it’s weird how you’re asking people what do they do to fall asleep at night” which led to a lot of stigma and suffering silently. Watching your videos is making me realize that all of this is normal and I’m not going crazy, thank you for all that you do Coach Daniel!

This is so me right now. I'm just so afraid that I'm never going to get it and I'm always going to be afraid 😭. I understand everything I've watched/read and it makes so much sense. This journey to healing is so hard.

Hang in there, the first step is education… and it can take a little bit before what we know cognitively leads to the change we want to see

@@LouellaMagtajas Yes I am so much better! I sleep well and even when I don't it just doesn't bother me anymore. I can't really be much help because all I truly did was just stop caring if I slept or not and stopped letting it cause me anxiety. And when I don't sleep as well I don't let myself go into an anxiety spiral of trying to figure out why I didn't sleep well. I just accept the night of bad sleep and move on.

    Hi Daniel,
    Great video and content overall
I have been suffering with insomnia since January this year, since I was promoted to a new job role, with more responsibity, working long hours etc, Since the training started for this new role, so did the sleepless nights.
Typical insomnia behaviour, trying to force myself to sleep to feel refreshed and perform well the next day. However the more I tried the worse it got. My issue was mainly falling alseep, hypnic jerks then feeling wide awake/frustrated.
I quickly found your channel, realised I wasnt going crazy and what was happening during the night. The insomnia got better but would still re occur when I have stressful days ahead, which I know is normal with recovery.
After a few months, I was still getting periods of on and off sleep, so I have recently taken a period of sickness leave to work on myself. During this time I have been sleeping amazing, about 30 plus days of regular, good quality sleep.
However this week, I have hit a bit of a bump, noticing the jerks, negeative thoughts preventing me to drift off and getting frustrated. The thoughts are mainly "oh no, its back and its happening again"
I found this video this morning and realised its exactly what I am going through at the moment. Every senastion going on through my body/brain is normal. I just notice it more now. I slept quite well last night but was a struggle at first. But overall its improving.
Great content and thank you for your help.

Hi Daniel, this is exactly where i am! I was sleeping great then had a few nights of the jerking.. then started the worrying about sleep & now im at a point where i cannot fall to sleep! .. Im glad to have found your page & really do hope i get to a point of acceptance - less desire to sleep. Im about 4 days into finding CBTI and the learning makes so much sense but i cant seem to put it into practice! Is this normal? X

So glad you’re here Amber. It’s a counterintuitive journey, this is very normal. And I’ll say CBTi can be quite tricky, I think often our way is gentler and can lead us to where we want to be easier. Check the This is Natto playlist, and be in touch!

I have ha question as Im trying to navigate into all of this information that you have on your page. Is it normal or has there been someone that while trying to sleep and when drifting into that moment of drowsiness and knowing that is about to sleep the hyperarousal is so much that the mind feels like it needs to remind the body that it needs to breathe otherwise is going to die? Thats my most irrational fear of it all because sleep does come, but at the moment in which I put my head in the pillow, thats the concern I have and gets me into awareness.

Exactly! My over hyper vigilance in my mind wont let me stop breathing! Its a phobia that I dont k ow how to overcome.

I've been recovering and go on and off with days where I sleep and don't sleep, but very often right when I get sleepy and lay down I start to overthink. Is this the part where I lose concsciousness? when do I knock out? when does it happen?
I don't know how to stop these thoughts from happening >< I try to think ofsomething else and daydream but I end up thinking too much and waking back up. I did lost that familarity with sleep. the funny thing is on occasion I do sometimes have those thoughts and still manage to fall asleep. i don't know what I did that lead to a different experience. but I do know that whenI can't sleep its cause I think of that point of falling asleep too much and my heart begins to race...

      Hi!
I think for all of us it’s a mystery exactly when we fall asleep. And for all of us, we can’t stop thoughts. But when we let them happen, they become fleeting and don’t bother us 🙂

Hi. I've slept pretty good most of my life I have anxiety, mostly social. Lately, the past year or two I wake up a couple hours after I go to sleep and can't go back to sleep. I'm menopausal. Dr prescribed Trazone and I'm sleeping more but side effects are headaches. I'm sleeping more and feel better to a certain extent. Do you think that physical changes like menopause need medications or can CBI help with that?
I'm really interested in your ideas and they definitely speak to me.

So glad you’ve found value here. What we call insomnia here = when fear of not sleeping keeps us awake. A million things like hormones and circumstances can create sleep disruption, but only how we think about them can create an ongoing struggle. Without fear, sleep becomes peaceful.

Yeah I kind of feel like that I don't know what it's like to fall asleep anymore a lot of times I wake up in the middle of the night most of the time I can go back to sleep but a lot of times I don't and so what I do is I'll get up out of bed you know cause I gotta go to work.. but on my days off when I can't stay asleep too long in bed I'll get up eat breakfast go sit on my nice recliner chair and then I fall asleep for like 2 hours...I have learned a lot from listening to your videos.. and most of the time I'm successfu on falling asleep l but sometimes it gets to the point where it's like I don't even know if I slept or not?? Weird huh
