    There are a few additional differences between the two. First, the Ultra automatically seals when you place the lid on...one less thing to remember when preparing to cook. Also, the Ultra does not automatically start 3 seconds or so after you select a program...giving you time to check your recipe and make corrections if necessary. I personally love my Ultra...and I love your channel!

      The Duo Crisp does the same thing, I think it kills both these even if you never use the new lid.

    I have the Ultra 6 quart and the Duo Plus 3 quart. I like the Ultra better because I don't have to remember to turn the seal function on. I forget this a lot. I don't like how the knob moves so much and sometimes the 3 quart doesn't always come to full pressure, even though the display icons indicate it at pressure. I find myself using the 3 quart size more than the 6 quart. It's smaller and more convenient to use. I missed the fantastic sale on the 3 quart Ultra ($59), however, I did get the 3 quart for $54 this past December 2018. I still would have preferred the Ultra 3 quart, over the Duo. I use the Instant pot at least 3 times a week. Thanks for your comparison. You always do such a great job explaining.

      I also have both, 2, 3qts that get a work out, 6 ultra is not my fav, but useful when I need bigger space , on the ultra I don’t use any of the presets, I use pressure cook always. Happy cooking pot heads :)

      The valve doe snot fail either, my Duo SV failed, same valve as the regular Duo. The metal retaining clip fell out, it is now useless

    I’m so used to my ultra because I don’t have to remember to turn the seal function on and it has a graft on the front to let me know where in time the cooking function is at!! I attribute a lot of my knowledge to your earlier videos !! I’ve had mine now for about 2years!!

    A million thank yous for posting this as well as the info on altitude adjustments!!!! I am considering RVing and if I'm up in the mountains it would be better to have the Ultra or at least know how to convert cooking times. Thank you again!

    Thank you Nili for the comparison! I was wondering what the main differences were between the ultra and duo versions were. Great work!

      This does not apply to the Duo Crisp, it has many enhancements that make it more like the Ultra.

      They cook quite different, one is Camry the other a Mustang. I use both, the sloe cook mode and NOT at all like a slow cooker. Do not do a pot roast in this but brisket works fine in either. Ironically, same cooking time.

    I do use the rice setting anytime I cook rice since the time cannot be adjusted on the DUO. Makes rice really easy. Of course that’s for Jasmine rice. Other than that I agree with you. I only use the manual button.

      Pressure Cook and Saute, I use Saute after, I have found using be before, as i recipes, leads to BURN errors even when deglazed. I use pan to saute and dump and then saute to simmer afterwards to reduce or caramelize.

    Agreed... it’s all marketing speak to justify so many “options”... it’s just cooking with pressure or no pressure and for a period of time... but I’m a minimalist, the few the buttons the cleaner the look and function... I see a few things on the ultra, like the full manual setting of the ultra setting and a knob that you don’t need to forget to set... but they all more or less do the same thing... just justifying a higher priced mouse trap.

      Don't discount the ability to control temps between 78 and 203 in sous vide mode. It opens up a lot of food prep methods in one device not just cooking at pressure at 220-248 deg F-- such as sous vide cooking, controlled temp food culturing and dough proofing. However you are basically right about most of the convenience time settings.

    • @JLilliquist

      Ultra as had a 99 hour limit so you can do any insane cooking you want.

  • @joecraft4409

    Well it worked before w/o the multitude of pre-sets. Why try to "Up your game" when what you sell already works well? Simpler is better. Who has the time or money to have to have a college degree to use the new pressure pots? Lol
    I'm still learning to utilize the regular pot to its fullest dapabilities. Waiting on Nili to come up with some fudge recipes lol.

    I would not like the knob one.. I like the push button one I have. Good review though. I got the Ninji Foodi for Christmas.. it is awesome, except that the air crisp lid has to stay connected to the pot at all times, I am hoping they will design one that the lid just snaps on. But anyways, not to take up no more of your time as I know you are a busy momma, thanks so much for sharing!!

    You cam also have sound off or on but that feature and altitude adjustment are now on the Duo Crisp which seem to make both the obsolete except for the automatic vent. The Duo Crisp seems to use the same lid as the Ultra. The Instant Pot SV seems to use a different sized lid !!! Avoid it !!

    From a functional perspective, which might have the tendency to break more? Anything with electronic push buttons takes a lot of wear and tear so would the turn button be safer as it would endure less man handling electronically?

    • @peterc2452
      @peterc2452 2 года назад

      I don’t have this but in general turn knobs would be easier to break. I’d prefer the buttons.

    Hi Nili, just discovered your channel today as I am looking to replace my piece of junk 6 qt. Duo. So you did this comparison in January of ‘19, but I noticed your videos since then have been with your 3 qt duo. Did you not like the ultra? Do you still use the ultra or did you send it back? Inquiring minds want to know.

    Hi! New to the pressure cooker! And your channel, loving it btw! So just did my unboxing of the Elite 4 quart pc, do you know if comparable to IP mini? Not a lot of videos about this one. Bought it on HSN @ 50% off. I would think the mini assecories you showed and recipes would work. Your opinion please? 😊❤

    Thanks for the video--very informative. I have a very small kitchen, i.e. no counter space, and will have to get some sort of kitchen cart to put the IP on. Could you tell me the measurement of the base from front to back (6 qt.) as most carts are 12.5 inches in width. Thanks.

    i guess it;s not really worth the price diff unless one lives in higher altitude?

    • @JLilliquist
      @JLilliquist 2 года назад

      Yes, but the newer Duo Crisp adds most of the missing features, I would get it in stead of either since it adds the new lids and a SV which replaces the Ultra for most people. There is now alos the MAX, basically the Ultra 2.0, I guess. No actual reviews about that.

  • @Jess_Smith0903

    Does the ultra have any differences when it comes to the pin dropping to release the pressure? I own one and still get very confused when recipes call for “let the pressure release on its own and the pin will drop”. It looks like on mine, that pin will never drop unless I push it down to release the pressure. Can you shed some light?

    • @JLilliquist
      @JLilliquist 2 года назад

      Yes, the Ultra takes MUCH longer to depressurized than any model but the Max; more like 30 to 45 minutes not 10 to 20 minutes.

      You would think that, but one could argue the 8 quart or 10 quart is ideal because you can fit much more cookware into it and do pot-in-pot cooking. I have a 6 and just bought an 8 because of the larger inner pot size. And the sale it was on was insane.
      The 3 quart uses much less power, I would use it in a van living situation and run it of dc batteries and an inverter. To me that would be the reason for getting the 3 qt: either you have a tiny kitchen or you want one with very low power demands.

    • @tlsnana9539

      I got 3 quart when my rice cooker wore out. It was during cyber Monday sale a few years ago. It was cheaper than the best rice cooker at that moment. I cook for 2 and use it a lot.
