Ghost Wolf : Wouldn’t have mattered, because Mayfield needed to throw the ball about 18 times for every TD scored (490 total attempts for 27 TD’s), and he only tossed one more TD than did Wilson as a rookie.
Russell Wilson only needed 15 attempts per TD (393 total attempts for 26 TD’s).
If Wilson had been allowed more passing attempts, he still would have blown Mayfield out of the water, because he was far more offensive.
At 490 attempts (about 30 attempts per game, btw), Wilson would have thrown 33 TD’s.
You’re talking about Mayfield needing far more attempts just to get to 35 TD’s. Wilson would have beaten Mayfield 33 TD’s to 27 if he had made the same number of attempts as did Mayfield as a rookie.
Mayfield would have required about 145-150 more attempts - or the equivalent of 5 more games (an additional 9.5 APG for 40 total APG) just to reach 35 TD’s.
Wilson threw 24 APG as a rookie. So he would have needed 135 more attempts to jump from 26 TD’s to 35 TD’s. That’s just an additional 8 more APG to take him to 32 APG.
In other words, Wilson’s efficiency would have allowed him to reach 35 TD’s by increasing his attempts to just 32 APG (which is only 2 more APG than Mayfield was already throwing to get to 27) while Mayfield would have needed to increase his productivity from 30 APG to 40 APG to reach that same number of TD’s.
Bottom line? Wilson was ridiculously more efficient than were Mayfield or Peyton Manning, the latter of whom also needed well over 400 attempts to set the rookie record of 26TD’s that Wilson later tied with just 393.

I noticed three of those TD passes were to Duke Johnson. Can't wait to see him catch more than twice as many in 2019 with an entire season of Mayfield throwing to him! Duke had more receptions than rushes, and averaged 5 yards per carry! Typical Duke Johnson season of productivity. And at 25 years of age, he's in great shape - having played so few snaps from 2016 through 2018! The type of player every team NEEDS for success.

Baker is the best draft pick since Bernie. He is Drew Brees 2.0. Now give him some offensive weapons to make him even more dangerous. Then shore up the offensive and defensive lines via free agency. Lastly, add a fast outside linebacker. Thus we will be headed for the playoffs.

@@henrybiggs8001 We need a tall, fast, receiver who can stretch the field. We also need a back up running back due to Chubb's history of injuries. The offensive line needs to be shored up. We can sign Hunt, draft a WR, and draft the OSU center.

@@c.edwardkemp-cummings3649 Perriman is 6'2 211, & seemed to show his bust status was more of the quarterback than the receiver... & The line gave up less than 10 sacks, since Robinson was inserted... We can get both on decent contracts... & Harrison is not terrible @ all, only against bull rushes... Robinson isn't better in pass protection, but where he lacks enables Baker to keep plays alive, unlike Harrison who once beat is responsible for sack or interception... & Browns still have a second round draft pic that will be a decent interior lineman... The Browns inside 3 are too 3 In NFL.. The offense was scoring high powered with the weapons they have... Fix the Defense to pass rush & stop the run better, & you'll see more of an explosive offense... Landry, Perriman, Callaway, Higgins, Ratley, Njuko, Duke, Chubb, Fells, etc, the Browns got mismatched weapons... & only Fells is past 26yrs old... & Chubb is not an injury concern... He's shown that since the injury & is even looking like his self before his injury, unlike alot of running backs... He's only 22...

@@henrybiggs8001 First, the things I suggest are items the team needs to do to become more than a playoff team. We are one of the few teams in the league that has never been to a Super Bowl. Your reliance on stats is a signal that you have never played football. For instance the lack of sacks is more of indication of Baker's ability to dodge rushers and his quick release. Look at the Houston game. Their good defense nullified our offense in the first half. We have to sign Higgins and Perriman. You can bet there will be plenty competition for their services. Trading Shelton to the Pat's was a mistake. He was a disappoint as a nose tackle. However, as a defensive tackle he clogged up the middle of the line. Trading him to the Pat's for a 5th round pick was asinine. The strength of this draft is at the defensive tackle position. Our first pick will be a defensive tackle. The team needs to add speed at the linebacker position and depth on both sides of the ball.

It took Peyton Manning about 50 fewer attempts to set the previous record at 26.
It took rookie Russell Wilson just 393 attempts to tie Peyton Manning’s record!
It took rookie Baker Mayfield approximately 490 attempts to throw 27 TD’s - breaking Peyton Manning’s and Russell Wilson’s shared rookie record of 26.
You tell me which QB really holds the record!
Btw, attempts per TD (“APTD”) should factor into all rookie records. Some QB’s are given more freedom than others, and that skews the results.
Wilson needed just 15.11 APTD. Mayfield, by contrast, needed 18.15 APTD. Manning took somewhere around 16.5 APTD. Efficiency matters.
    Wilson was best!
