    SPOILERS:
    I just can't get enough of how a guy called Dirtyhands for having zero moral compass or compassion: saves a girl from a brothel; empowers her; drains his savings to set her free; goes to his arch enemy to save her; kills the abuser of another Menagerie captive; reunites a neglected son with his long lost mother; is ready to sacrifice himself to give his crew a chance out; doesn't allow his friend to risk his life even though it would increase their chance to pull off the plan; agrees to help putting slavery to an end and basically making world a better place; reunites his crush with her parents and presents her a freaking ship to pursue her dreams. What a God damn legend.

      omg sooo true! i think not enough people are talking about the self-sacriice part. this man was ready to throw any of them overboard at the start of soc (except for inej of course, and jesper), and in the second book, when he was losing hope he was just like casualy ready to give himself up to save these mfrs. and i love that growth.

    I actually loved that he didnt change after book 1 immediatly. Its a process, no human can change dramtically in one week in real life.

      I totally agree. I think him overcoming it and giving the happy conclusion of him and inej kissing would really dismiss both their traumas and undermine how difficult progress is

    I felt like he did overcome fears, at the end he wasn’t even wearing his gloves and they held hands, he even met her parents. For him that’s a huge step and that gave me so much hope. It also looked like him and inej were going to work together. I wasn’t disappointed by the ending at all. The growth we saw was him going from absolutely not touching anyone to kissing inej’s neck and also holding her hand in less than two years of knowing her, when he’s been fighting against this his whole life? Like that’s big to me.

      @nos5915 3 года назад +2

      i am kind of confused as to why he stopped wearing gloves. like, yes he started wearing them because of haphephobia, but like. mobility aids can be really hard on the hands and most of us wear gloves because of that
      i don't because i have sensory issues but it's pretty common

    • @Rosalie-yn1bt
      @Rosalie-yn1bt 3 года назад +16

      @@nos5915 I think for him he only wore the gloves because of his previous trauma and his phobia and so when he started overcoming that fear, him taking off the gloves was a clear milestone to his psychological recovery

      (I know this is late to the game,, but I just finished the two books) Hard agree. I was completely satisfied by how they were ended in the second book. Sure, they didn't confess their love verbally to each other, kiss, hug, and skip off into the sunset. But the boat, her parents, AND him purposely not wearing gloves with the intention to hold her hand was HUGE for him. He's trying for her and all of his trauma responses/survival mechanisms aren't just going to be healed overnight. That, to me, is incredibly unrealistic. Yes, it was left a little more open-ended, but to do anything else would have made it seem forced and rushed. There was still hope at the end for both of them.

    Kaz is my definition of a perfect character. He's written so well and the duality he holds is amazing. Another thing I love, is that he is 17 but acts much older. The night I got this book, the first thing I told my mom was "He is a lot like me in terms of maturity." I also had an extremely traumatizing childhood, abuse of every form, eating disorder, losing over half of my family in a year, seeing my best friend die, and getting diagnosed with a chronic pain condition. I've been told I act like an adult since I was 7. I'm 17 but get mistaken for mid twenties every day. I love that these characters can be so young, but so mature at the same time.

    I think it’s not over for Kaz and Inej, I can see them developing and overcoming trauma they have and eventually come together someday. Who knows we may even see it in another SOC book, Leigh did say she’d write one years down the line.

    I adored this video, thank you so much for making it. All the characters in Six of Crows are so complex and layered and so very interesting. Kaz is his own kind of interesting as a character who feels so broken and almost helpless. I would have loved to see them end up together and happy but honestly, as you said, it would have been untrue to both of them and their traumas, specially Kaz's; not only his skin aversion, but his inability to open up and be vulnerable to someone that way. As such I really loved the ending, and I hope Leigh Bardugo someday comes back to Kaz and Inej and gives us Kaz finally being brave enough to take that step towards her. Thanks a lot for doing this character study :) have a lovely day!

    I really enjoyed this character analysis, especially how you bring to light that the events of the duology provide Kaz the opportunity to accept his emotions and act upon them accordingly, but not enough to commit to major life changes. And honestly, is it a realistic arc for a character with his trauma and life circumstances. It is a fascinating template for building characters like him in other stories!

    What I've noticed about Kaz is that, we mostly see him trought Inej's eyes and let's admit it, she's actually a bit biased. For Inej, Kaz is lika a hero: He saved her, gave her sense of security and what she craved the most - freedom.
    In other's eyes, like Matthias, who doesn't know him as well as others, he's a devil and literally nothing

    Well in my mind Kaz and Inej start a partnership and he helps her free slaves while they start getting closer and closer physically. Kaz would help her to plan how to get the slaves out of the situations and she'd keep finding information for him when she's not at sea. She's gonna need a lot of information about where the slaves are headed or kept and a group to help her when things go south, so she'd visit Ketterdam a lot. Kaz would keep living in the barrel and becoming wealthier and wealthier until he's over it and decides to focus primarlily on Inej's cause and helping orphans.
