Can you pick a favorite character from this Grishaverse? Mine is maybe Nina, maybe Kaz, maybe Nikolai?? Even Kuwei gets a shout out here lol David??? IDK!!!!
Kaz, but oh my does my heart have a spot for Nikolai, and I fell in love with Nina and Zoya during King of Scars and Inej is wonderful, and the Darkling as a character?!?
Oh man, my best friend has a lot of thoughts and feelings about the darkling hahahah i feel like the netflix show is going to be rough cause the character they cast is so charming!!!

OMG literally your book vids KILL me what a coincidence hahahah I felt like you captured my feelings perfectly in your crooked kingdom broke me video HAHAHHAHA
I have an issue, my favorite character is a man who gouged someone's eyes out, he's a drug-dealer, a thief, a liar, and the most violent character you'll ever come across. :)
I think my favorite thing about these books is how complex the characters are. I remember I read it before I made everyone else in my life read it (oops 🤭) and I kept telling everyone about Kaz especially: “he’s horrible but I love him and he’s good? But he’s bad and... 😫😫😫” Lol!
I'm literally going to stop reading Crooked Kingdom bc I saw someone on the video where Leigh introduces SoC say they feel empty after reading the second book like they need MORE and I hate THAT feeling so so so freaking much I'd rather stop
coming back to this video 4 years later. I’ve just finished Crooked Kingdom and now understand why you needed to make a separate channel just to talk about this duology. I want to SCREAM, cry, and laugh. I want to stand on a rooftop and tell everyone just how much this book hurt me. and yet I can’t thank you enough for this recc - THANK YOU CARI!!!
Crooked kingdoms is my favorite book of all time, with six of crows being my second favorite. I re-read crooked kingdoms recently, I still cried. HOW COULD THERE BE 6 CHARACTERS WHO ALL HAVE FLESHED OHT AND COMPLEX BACKGROUNDS AND PERSONALITIES AND CHARACTER GROWTH IN JUST TWO BOOKS!! I didn’t love the grisha trilogy but I loved a lot of the characters in it. I have king of scars, it’s next on my tbr! I love the grishaverse so much!❤️

Idk, I’m excited but I still don’t wanna get my hopes up and get my heart broken Percy Jackson style 👀
She is absolutely PHENOMENAL even her book of short stories language of thorns is beautiful. I think you should give shadow and bone another try because king of scars will make so much more sense!!

I felt you SO MUCH when you mentioned that the characters of shadow and bone start out as really annoying because I also read SOC first and those characters are so complex, and interesting, and charming. It's kinda hard to top them in that sense hahaha.
SoC is probably the best ya fantasy series. It has diverse (race, sexuality, disability and body size) characters who aren't just someone's love interests (as happens in many ya books), everyone has their own motivations and aspirations. Imo characters make or break any book and these characters are very memorable.
I started it this week after watching one of your past videos where you mentioned reading it and I’m already on Crooked Kingdom. Holy. crap. It’s so good. Steadily becoming one of my favorite YA novels!! thanks for the recommendation:)
I finished Six of Crows yesterday and it was so amazing, I don't remember the last time I finished a book so fast. I immediately bought Crooked Kingdom and I'm already so into it too! Your impressions about the characters were so spot on, thank you for this video. None of my friends have read it and no one pretty much cares, so it felt like I was understood and able to feel everything through here :3
I just finished watching Six of Crows because of your recommendation and OH MY GOD CARI?!?!?! SO GOOD?!?!?! I just started Crooked Kingdom and ahhhhhhhhhh. Thank you so much for recommending this series!!
I’m a librarian so I LOVE that you love books so much and Leigh Bardugo is a masterful writer! Actual watching your last couple videos has made me really want to recommend books to you! If you haven’t heard about this one it’s called Beast Player by Nahoko Uehashi (translated by Cathy Hirano) you might really like it!
I read Six of Crows last summer and put off Crooked Kingdom until I was on winter break because I knew I was gonna be devastated when it ended. All I can say is that I’ve been in a book hole ever since I finished because nothing compares.
You made me pick up six of crows and boy am i grateful! I finished crooked kingdom last night and i am a mess! it ended so perfectly but like what do i do with my life now? I completly agree that the second one was better in the sense that we are more attached to the characters, they are more developped (also romance lol) But yeah! it got me out of my years long reading slum, i read some books here and there but ever since High School i just haven't been the reader I used to be but now all i want to do is read more books and I am so grateful to these books but also to you for recommending them! Will definitly keep an eye out on your book channel for more recs!
I am so so glad I picked both Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom up because it was one of the best reads I've had in forever. I so loved the books and now I want to delve into the Shadow and Bone trilogy and the King of Scars duology. So excited for it. Thank you so much for introducing this series to me!! 💗👌👌
I'm actually reading Six of Crows!!! and i got so excited when i saw you made an entire video on the duology, i clicked so fast! hahahaha (And thank you for not spoiling any of the plot points TT)
ImGoldenChannel actually I hated the raven cycle trilogy 😩 I had so many issues with the open plot holes and just..so many things left unanswered and unsatisfactory. As someone who loved six of crows five years ago and still raves about it I don’t think it comes close to Leigh’s duology..
I’ve just started the first Shadow And Bone book, I’m enjoying it so far! Mainly reading them so that I can get to this duology, everyone I’ve spoken to about these has recommended them. Great video!
I've been watching all of your book videos recently because I wanted to get back into reading, so when I saw your IG story today about a new book video, I was stoked! And I am surely not disappointed, with so many recommandations I just didn't know which book/series to read first. Well, now I know! Thank you so much!
Oh no, hearing you gush about Six of Crows makes me want ti reread it and that means I’m going to have to become a sobbing mess because of Crooked Kingdom😂🙈😭 but I’m so happy that you love the Six of Crows duology, it’s so good and I think Nina, Jesper and Matthias are my favourite characters💛
When I read those books, I started with Shadow and Bone, then finished the Six of Crows duology, so I was also surprised at the way Ruin and Rising ended, thinking I had it all figured out because of Crooked Kingdom haha nope. I guess Leigh Bardugo really got us with that "people-known outcome that is different than what actually happened".
Loved the new video! The grisha universe is so intricate and definitely one of my favourites. I would recommend We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal. It has a similar vibe. Also it was super surreal to see my comment up on the screen!
I've been meaning to read this duology ever since I finished the original Grisha trilogy and this video finally made me bite the bullet and stop procrastinating. Waiting for them to arrive in the mail now ♥ I can not wait to dig into this universe again!
OMG!!!! i loved this video!!!! i've only read the six of crows duology and now i can't wait to read the rest. i'll make sure to read the shadow and bone triology before king of scars now hahahah thank you for inspiring me as always
This video made me feel a whole lot better about reading the duology first !!! I’m gonna go back and pick up the trilogy to not let go of this world just yet
Can I just say that after reading the Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, after watching the show, after reading King of Scars, I really wanna read a book set in either Novyi Zem or Shu Han because these countries still feel so unexplored to me and I just need more from that world.
ughhh girl i adore you so freaking much! your videos are literally my favourite!! and i know i've told you this before, but because of you i literally started my own youtube channel! so i just wanted to thank u again for being such an inspiration ily
I haven’t heard of these books until now lol so thanks for the recommendation. I’ll probably tune in for the Netflix series first and then read the books. That’s usually my order 📺📚😎👍
Sooo... I’ve been waiting for this video since you started reading Crooked Kingdom at the same time as me... I’m waiting for the lockdown to finish to get the Shadow&Bone trilogy & King of Scars so I can read them. Thank you thank you thank you! I love Jasper & Wylan together, BTW!!!!
You really made a video!! And here I thought it'll be to much to ask for in your previous vlog since it's unlike your usual book talk/recc videoTT thank you you made my day. These books also destroyed me 🤗
you know it's been too long since you've read ruin and rising when you're having the hardest time thinking of what plot twist you're talking about haha 🙈anyway Crooked Kingdom is gold and I'm so glad you made this video!
I’ve read shadow and bone series after six of crows and I love the six of crows series more and appreciate it a lot more, you can really tell Leah Bardugo really improved as a writer
This is most definitely one of the best book review videos I have seen. Thank you! I am going to start the series and I think I’ll start with Six of Crows?
I also only got on the hype-train for the Six of Crows-duology late last year and woah, what a ride. I love all the characters! The care Bardugo took to explain their backstories and motivations was amazing. The only thing that I never fully bought is that Kaz is 16 or 17 at the beginning. Or any of them.
I am now finally listening to the audiobook of Six of Crows. ( writing these comments before seeing the video) I am about 18 % in and at this point my favorite character is Inej! I want to re-read the Shadow and Bone series afterward. And I get that we have to have the build-up about how the six crows come together and all ( currently am at the scene where they planning on rescuing Matthias), I am finding myself at this point where I am like: I want this mission to start, when does it start? And I am so hoping the build-up of crowding the crows together won't take that long. And I love that whole mission thing and the chemistry between the characters. But as they started about why the mission has to take place ( the drug thing) I was like: meh. This really doesn't catch me. Why are you not asking more questions about this, I want more explanation for this shit :D And thank you You got me into YA fantasy again and I love it.
Oh no, more books to be added to my never ending TBR list! 🙈 I’ve read the Shadow and Bone series which I thought was ok, but I couldn’t get that into it and I didn’t care that much for any of the characters. But now I think I’ve got to read Six of Crows! It sounds really different to Shadow and Bone!
When you posted on Instagram about these books, I started looking for them, and now I really have get my hand on the books, and start reading them, one way or another.
I've been in a reading slump for YEARS mainly because of university. But you've really made me excited for books. I'm a little scared of fantasy that isn't George RR Martin lol because I read some where the writing was just hideous.. BUT I will give these a try!
*Waves* 😄🙌 Hi! I'm Lily and I'm also a fan of Leigh Bardugo and all the worlds she writes and creates! I'm also a fan of you and your RUclips channel! I love watching you go to cafes and or different adventures 😆 I think my favorite characters were Alina...of course. Nickolai, the darkling, Kaz, Ineji and Nina.
2 weeks ago Leigh Bardugo made an InstaReel about the right order: Shadow & Bone, Siege & Storm, Ruin & Rising, Six of Crows, Crooked Kingdom, King of Scars. I was so happy that I didn't even start yet and now know what to do :D
i started reading this series as soon as it was announced that there was going to be a show (I think last January? I can’t believe it’s been that long) and while i thought the shadow and bone trilogy was okay, I was hesitant to pick up the six of crows duology but boy was I wrong. this duology means so much to me since it’s what got me back into reading. also, i actually did like king of scars-I mean, it was a little underwhelming since I started it right after finishing crooked kingdom, but I love nikolai so it was an easy read. Can’t wait for book two of king of scars and the Netflix show (I love the cast so much already)
I’ve been thinking about purchasing the books but I’ve been a bit hesitant. Thanks for the recommendation and stating the order in which to read them cuz I was a bit confused about the order.
Ahh omg I never thought I’d see one of my fav vloggers make a whole video about my fav books!! I’m so glad you read and love them, they’re truly spectacular and better with each reread imo. Also 100% agree that the casting for Kaz is pure perfection - I loved that little edit! Hope you’re doing well Cari 😊 p.s. what are your thoughts on the darkling ?? 🙈🙈
i bought six of crows like 3 or 4 years ago because i liked the design of the book itself (i def judge books by their covers LMAO but who can blame me six of crows is literally beautiful) and i just fell in love!! i think my favorite part of the story was the relationship between kaz and inej. i’m just a sucker for slow-burn relationships in general but i really liked the trust that existed btwn them. also the moment in the first book when inej tells kaz “i will have you without armor or i won’t have you at all” really stuck out to me because up until that point i’d never really seen a female character that deserves better straight up tell the dude “yo i deserve better.” which is..... kind of sad can we have more strong female characters please :( but honestly inej and kaz are just great and i’m so glad i’ve been seeing this series getting more hype. i admittedly have not finished the grisha trilogy because i read the first book after six of crows and just couldn’t really get into it...? i’m not sure if i’ll be watching the netflix show either, i’m so deeply attached to the book itself and the versions of the characters that exist in my head that i’m 99% sure the show will just clash with how i envision the series. but six of crows is def one of my all-time favorite books, i’m so glad to see you make a video abt it!! :D
I'm literally going to stop reading Crooked Kingdom bc I saw someone on the video where Leigh introduces SoC say they feel empty after reading the second book like they need MORE and I hate THAT feeling so so so freaking much I'd rather stop
Yeah I'd like to second what the person above me has said, or you could just stick with the book because it'll start making sense soon. I had the same problem btw, because I started with SoC first, but you can start with Shadow and Bone if you like...
i put a hold out for this book from the library last time you mentioned it, and it became available today? the same day you post this? the universe is sending me a SIGN
Because of the netflix show, I read six of crows first without checking reading order and stupidly thought it would start with Alinas story lol anyway, just finished Crooked Kingdom and omg I just want more from these characters and I'm looking for some fic to fill the emptiness now :''')
Can you pick a favorite character from this Grishaverse? Mine is maybe Nina, maybe Kaz, maybe Nikolai?? Even Kuwei gets a shout out here lol David??? IDK!!!!

Six of crows has been on my to-read list since you first mentioned it. Think I'll have to finally break it out today!
Yes!!!!!
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS REVIEW
IM HERE
When you posted on Instagram about these books, I started looking for them, and now I really have get my hand on the books, and start reading them, one way or another.
Put a hold on Six of Crows after seeing how much you enjoyed the series and now I'm even more excited to read it!
I've been in a reading slump for YEARS mainly because of university. But you've really made me excited for books. I'm a little scared of fantasy that isn't George RR Martin lol because I read some where the writing was just hideous.. BUT I will give these a try!
Thank you for your amazing videos!!!💜
thank you for watching!!!
This was theeee best review!!! Thanks alot 🥳
Nickolai, the darkling, Kaz, Ineji and Nina.
one word
KAZ FREAKING BREKKER
just added these to my goodreads!! very excited to read :D
yesssss!
2 weeks ago Leigh Bardugo made an InstaReel about the right order: Shadow & Bone, Siege & Storm, Ruin & Rising, Six of Crows, Crooked Kingdom, King of Scars. I was so happy that I didn't even start yet and now know what to do :D
Added to my list for the month. Going through books mad due to the lockdown in the US, so I can use all the recommendations.
Well I apologize for the havoc these will wreck on your heart but at least we'll be in the same boat hahahhaha
had six of crows on my bookshelf for months now I’m finally gonna start 😌
YESSSSSS
i started reading this series as soon as it was announced that there was going to be a show (I think last January?
Did I just see a fantasy fangirlism in you pop out? Lol sending you love and best wishes!
i dont know what happened to me hahahaha
Ahh omg I never thought I’d see one of my fav vloggers make a whole video about my fav books!! I’m so glad you read and love them, they’re truly spectacular and better with each reread imo. Also 100% agree that the casting for Kaz is pure perfection - I loved that little edit! Hope you’re doing well Cari 😊
p.s. what are your thoughts on the darkling ?? 🙈🙈
I just got a text from the delivery company that my book has been shipped! Can’t wait to start reading it!
i bought six of crows like 3 or 4 years ago because i liked the design of the book itself (i def judge books by their covers LMAO but who can blame me six of crows is literally beautiful) and i just fell in love!! i think my favorite part of the story was the relationship between kaz and inej. i’m just a sucker for slow-burn relationships in general but i really liked the trust that existed btwn them. also the moment in the first book when inej tells kaz “i will have you without armor or i won’t have you at all” really stuck out to me because up until that point i’d never really seen a female character that deserves better straight up tell the dude “yo i deserve better.” which is..... kind of sad can we have more strong female characters please :( but honestly inej and kaz are just great and i’m so glad i’ve been seeing this series getting more hype. i admittedly have not finished the grisha trilogy because i read the first book after six of crows and just couldn’t really get into it...? i’m not sure if i’ll be watching the netflix show either, i’m so deeply attached to the book itself and the versions of the characters that exist in my head that i’m 99% sure the show will just clash with how i envision the series. but six of crows is def one of my all-time favorite books, i’m so glad to see you make a video abt it!! :D
Slow burn indeed 😭✊ i loved their relationship too but also kaz needs to treat my girl SO much better. Inej is everything!!
I started watching this video having no idea about this book series I honestly just wanted to watch something of yours.. but now I'm intrigued
I stored six of crows in my library for years but now I'm intrested in reading it.
Started Shadow and Bone today so wish me luck lmao
I'm literally going to stop reading Crooked Kingdom bc I saw someone on the video where Leigh introduces SoC say they feel empty after reading the second book like they need MORE and I hate THAT feeling so so so freaking much I'd rather stop
I’ve only read the first few chapters of Six of Crows and I’m super confused
Maybe u just start with shadow and bone
Yeah I'd like to second what the person above me has said, or you could just stick with the book because it'll start making sense soon. I had the same problem btw, because I started with SoC first, but you can start with Shadow and Bone if you like...
i put a hold out for this book from the library last time you mentioned it, and it became available today? the same day you post this? the universe is sending me a SIGN
OMG yes! happy reading hehehe
And I’m back in the early gang 😎
YES welcome! Have a worm! (cause you're an early bird... i realize that comment sounds weird by itself lol)
cari cakes I can’t breathe 🤣
Because of the netflix show, I read six of crows first without checking reading order and stupidly thought it would start with Alinas story lol anyway, just finished Crooked Kingdom and omg I just want more from these characters and I'm looking for some fic to fill the emptiness now :''')
Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom RUINED ME, here I am still crying and re-reading the books six months after first reading it ❤️
