I'm sitting here listening to this song that I've heard a hundred times before, and yet I'm still mesmerized by this man's voice. Just listen to the way he bends his voice in and out of every lyric, stare into his eyes as he "lives" every word he sings. George doesn't just sing a song, he lives the song. He steps into the lyrics the way an actor steps into a movie role. Songs like this and "The Grand Tour"...I honestly don't understand how anyone can say they don't like George Jones.
Good God all mighty! I've been a musician now about 36yrs, and ain't lying when I tell you that hearing his music from the time I was just a kid, on up to an adult, just broke my heart like no other, and still does!
Looking at the video of our late George, comes so natural, not the big expressions people put on Barely see his lips move I loved and will always be my #1!
No one has ever sang a song like George Jones. Look into his eyes. You can tell he feels his songs. I think he lived all his songs. If he didn't he could have fooled me.
Yes I agree with many others...George was gifted with a voice thaf no other singer to this dag can beat...17 May 2023...there was a saying ...that when George passes ...USA will soon not exist...take a close look at USA today...
Yeah there will never be another George Jones. Like someone said in the comments, “When George entered Heaven the angels moved to the side so that George could sing words of praise, in his Heavenly voice, to the almighty God.”
2:05 George at his best...Literally throwing himself into a song... emotion and all; this made him the GOAT. A songs greatest friend! He lived his songs allowing him to have such natural delivery.
Yeah, we thought that was the best one, then he sings another, he just kept getting better each time. So glad & happy I got to see him in live concert many times. I loved him & still love his songs just as much as ever
Ever fresh. I listen to this master piece every day. More like a regular prescribed diet to keep me on. I can't get enough of George Jones songs. I love GJ with all my heart.
Love,Love,Love George Jones, Always have Always will! ♥️🥰🎶 R.I.P. George Jones You are Dearly Loved & Missed by one of your biggest fans 🙏🏻😢💔🌹 Thanks so much for sharing! 😊
Anybody that's ever experienced the contents of a George Jones song in real life "Cry" when they hear George Jones sing about it. He SINGS it like "THEY" feel it!! (I have.)
i see you everywhere on all these wonderful George Jones videos!!! i’m 16 and it’s great to see so many people that like this guy, i can’t get enough. it’s 3 am and i’m going down my playlist of george!
This man right here is the greatest male Country singer of all time. I could listen to him all day every day for the rest of my life, he and Tammy Wynette the best of the best.
l agree with you, indeed George Jones is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style, he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days….
When he sings a song, it has been sung! He throws his physical emotions in this one; he is feeling it! He is weeping inside.... The BEST singer that ever lived.....PERIOD!
Unbelievable live version ! If you ever had a real heartache with real pain , then this song has to touch u in some kinda way. Only this legend can wrench out such emotion from every word in this song. God u just called home the best ! Miss ya George R I P
His duet with Keith on this song is awesome. It says in the liner notes of The Bradley Barn Sessions that Keith said he felt like he was "in the company of Angles" when he recorded this tune with George. Had MAJOR respect for the man and Keith Richards doesn't say that about just anybody. R.I.P. Possum, you were something in your day and sorely missed already.
George Jones singing through clenched teeth and bending the notes perfectly. I’ve said it a million times and I will say it again The Ole Possum George Jones is simply THE GOAT 🐐
I'm 33 and I love George Jones. I wish I was around in the 60's to feel such heart felt music! I know what people mean when they say this is "real country". Thank you yankee1830
George has his signature hit songs, but for my money, Say It's Not You, Things Have Gone to Pieces, Some Day My Day Will Come, Take Me and others are just as fine
Every once in a while their comes a singer with so much rhythm in their voice that it becomes the most important instrument in the song, There is only Lefty and Vern, and obviously the even more popular George Jones who's voice alone can make a song. Carrying a note out so smoothly and perfectly that it touches you pretty deep. Nothing less then outstanding. The greatest of a very long era, he will be missed.
His songs blow my freaking mind. A song for literally every stage of my life. Sings with the same passion I feel. Love you George.....will miss you forever. Hope when I'm called I have a radio with you on it, on repeat. Still heartbroken.
I can't understand how we ended up with the CRAP Nashville is pumping out today. It just doesn't seem possible to wind up with garbage when they have had someone like George Jones teaching them how it's done for 60 YEARS! When that sad day came that the radio execs wouldn't grace the airways with Jones voice anymore I knew that music as I knew it was over and that true Country music had died. R.I.P. Country Music
He was absolutely the very best singer in the world, no matter what genre. I'm a rock and roller who just stumbled (or, shall I say staggered?) through a country music phase some 30 odd years ago (Honestly, I'm a Stones guy through and through). I rarely listen to country music, so I'm probably the most unlikely fan on earth. The way George Jones sings a song just knocks me out. I know he will be sorely missed by many people - even by rock and rollers like me. God bless you, George Jones.
ole george probably saved my life but never knew it there was a time i lost a wife 2 kids and found out i had cancer it was the darkest days of my life sometines i didnt know if it was worth trying then id listen to a george jones sad song like things have gone to pieces and realize i didnt have it has bad has i thought
I've probably commented on just about every Jones video on the net at one time or another, but I just can't help it- every time you watch this man perform it just rips at you, leaving you wanting to say somthing prolific about this unsurpassable talent that you just witnessed. I can remember countless times going and buying a new Jones album- you are excited because you know you are about to hear something great. You put the album on and Mr. Jones NEVER dissapoints with his voice... in every damn Jones album I ever bought there was something in there that wasn't just GOOD, there was something SO GOOD that it nearly left you in SHOCK. I couldn't count the times the man made all the hair on your body stand up as this chill went through you.
***** The saddest thing about it is that Jones himself didn't think he was very good. He was always uncomfortable when people praised his talent. Well, all I have to say is then he must have been uncomfortable A LOT because even the biggest legends of all time call Jones the best. There isn't anything that HASN'T been said about how good he was.
+Roccy T I'll never forget the first time I heard "He Stopped Loving Her Today" in 1980... I was riding in the back of a Chrysler New Yorker... I don't remember where we were going or why, but I remember that song coming over the radio. That was another one of those moments where you heard something so unimaginably good that it left you without words...

I just remember the song being played a lot of the country radio station CFGM...as well as many other G J song . it wasn't till later , then i just had to go buy the album. But the songs i would wait for then ( no instant you tube those days) were someday my day will come, two story house....bartender blues and the following release I'm not ready yet. I guess, like George himself i thought the song was too slow and morbid and like him was I ever wrong.
Roccy T Hahaha! George said in an interview once that he told Billy Sherrill "I like the song, but it will never sell, it is just too damned sad"!! I bet George was never so happy to be so wrong in his life- the song literally re-energized his career which was suffering at that time for various reasons. But that morbid sadness is why the song grabbed me so much. It was the intense sadness of the song and the emotion Jones put into the performance that just blew me away. Shock value I guess...

Could anyone ever compete with George it's a live performance and every word in tune, this song really meant something to George.
Nobody has ever blended a smile and a grimace so effortlessly. The King of Heartache.
Best country music singer ever..
Well listen to irish man tony Kerr hes right on the heels of the possum

Amen brother!!

George Jones was from another planet and he was here for a visit to share his talent with with us on this earth. I wish there can another Jones.
“The Chairman” called “The Possum” “the SECOND greatest singer in America”. Arguable. ❤️

Unless he changed his ways;he won’t be singing UP there. Kills me when they say he was a a- hole, but country’s best singer though. RIP
The first time I saw and heard George Jones was when he sang this song on HeeHaw in the early 1970’s. I fell in love with him then and there.
