This man has been so much a part of my life so long that I feel when he died, a part of me died to. There will never be another George Jones. I have lived the lyrics to many of his songs as much as many of you have. When I listen to his music it has gotten me through a many hard times. You are missed o'l friend. I'ts hard to know there will be no more music from you.Your voice is silent, but not forgotten. R.I.P. George
I was driving when I got the news of his passing. I cried like a little baby. Been listening to him since my parents brought me a cassette tape of his from one of his shows when I was a kid.....at least 30 years ago. I know exactly what you're talking about! Will always be the greatest to ever do it!
Blessings
No doubt the King of Country !! My idol growing up and still is !!
Exactly
I couldn't of said it better , I've lived so much of the hurt in his songs as well.
I am 60 years old and live in Wyoming. We couldn't be any farther from the "Old Southern County" music. However, my Dad played in a band in WY and SD back in the 60s and to this day I can remember him singing George's old songs like this. I was wrecked when I heard that George went on to Heaven. I rejoice in knowing I'll hear him sing again in person. George....you fought many battles but you received Jesus as your Savior and that was your greatest decision. See you soon my Friend
In my part of the south we say, "when he sings a song, it stays sung!"
The greatest vocalist I've ever heard in my life. Absolutely pitch perfect. Gives me chills.
Beautiful Song love it, George Jones,WoW what a great Voice I just love listening to him sing
@JohnMoris-ii9tm I'm good
This rendition is one of the very best vocal performances I have ever heard - EVER. This comment comes from a classically trained musician. George Jones is the absolute best - this song moves me to tears every time I hear it. Absolutely stunning. Love ya, George!!!
Thats over the top...Merle Haggard was a much better singer imo
@@louiserawle8999 Merle Haggard would disagree
@@bsdml it's my opinion,and I think that's still allowed.
@@louiserawle8999 Certainly-goes both ways
@@bsdml what are you on about!!!!!???????
THE BEST COUNTRY SINGER EVER.
He's the King of Country music.
I love George strait too, but jones' king
me too
Five stars!! RIP George-- no one can take your place
It just doesn't get any better
than George Jones. Him and Merle Haggard were two of my all time favorites.
Real country, how l love and miss you my friend.
Really seems like a long lost friend doesn’t it…
That crying voice 💕💕💕😢😢😢
The greatest of all time for vocal ability. Unique.
George owns this song ❤❤❤❤❤ so true are the lyrics. 1:31
"When he sings a song dont try to follow him"..... Good advice!!
When George sings a song IT HAS BEEN SUNG, BY GOD!!!!
so true
I don't know what to say.....I really miss true country music.
At least the Hag is still around.
Debbie Gresham That's true, so is Charlie Pride.
yep!
What is wrong with those 104 negatives , he is the greatest country singer of all times , I miss that he is no longer with us , he was & will always be my favorite,,,love George Jones , Canadian boy here , Johnny ,,, hugs all around ,,,,
the best country singer there ever was
Does anyone realize that this song and "He stopped Loving her today" are one and the same? They're both absolute country perfection. Thanks George
Yes, the same theme for sure. And yes, both absolute perfection.
The tears fills my eyes when I listen to George, because his songs has meaning they touch you deep,so if you have someone to love and love you back.treat them right.the hurt run deep.
Yes sir it sure does.
So true my friend. 🇦🇺👍
George is purely country he is a country song music from the heart ❤
This is true country, Steel guitar so much better than today’s music. I love this, his songs told a story, you could relate to. ❤
If you can listen to that and say there's a better singer who ever lived...good luck
Love this Song and George ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️💯💯💯
Never be another George Never 💯💔
l agree with you, indeed George Jones is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style, he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days.
Pure Country....If it does not have a steel guitar or a fiddle, I just don't want to hear it.
I agree. If it don't have them ,it ain't country.
Add a little yodel and you got it.
I agree. To me the trinity of Country instruments are: Steel, Tele, Fiddle.
ME TOO...... NO PEDAL STEEL...
NO COUNTRY. (COUNTRY) MUSIC TODAY IS POP... HIP HOP AND RAP. IN SHORT IT'S CRAP.
He did a lot of drinkin’ but I’d bet George didn’t steal that guitar.
@@starluxstudio619 lol. fixed it
The greatest. Ever. Whoever gave this a thumbs down should be booted off youtube. And you don't have to be from the south or the country to be moved to the core by this man's singing.
The greatest ever is Johnny Cash.
Johnny Cash is my favorite singer ever, but I agree George Jones is the greatest pure country singer ever
Eric Savage I agree 100%
So do i 2000%
Amen.
One of the very best old George has ever done! My old straight-laced preacher dad didn't always agree with some of George's life choices, but he loved George's voice on those old country songs and went with me to see George one time. An American Treasure!
This singing performance proves why George Jones is the greatest of them all . . . he's hauntingly beautiful, painfully perfect. He is on another plane than the other pillars and giants of the genre. He just digs deeper into the human heart and finds something very visceral. No one can match him.
1. George Jones (smooth as silk, soulful, bluesy, effortless pitch, pure, raw emotion, smooth purrrr, deep bass,hick-up twang, nasally twang, high, lonesome, haunting sound, his vocals can do it all
Totally Agree!!! THE GREATEST SINGER in any genre!!!!!!!!!
And it's still so in 2023
I've always said, when it comes to country singers it's a tie for #1. Hank Williams and George Jones, 1A and 1B. Might have to actually give Possum the nod though, just for the sheer volume of great work.
Consider myself fortunate that I was able to see Jones in concert once. It was a year or two before he died, and while he was clearly limited physically (he didn't move around much on stage), his voice still sounded great.
I bought a tee shirt at that show, and even though it's doubtful I'll ever fit into it again, I'll never throw it out.
George owns this song. ❤❤❤❤. You can believe every word as gospel. Ri p.
Only one George. No one will ever take his place
Best country singer ever. That voice
There's no other one can replace George Glenn Jones cause he's the best man in the worldwide in the music industry of country music
George was a great country singer. ❤❤❤❤he can sing the phone book it would be great.
effortless heartbreak and perfection in one live performance , stick this in your rubber suit sam smith
greatest country singer ever
George Jones has a very unique voice and is one of the best country singers that has ever lived
Oh my goodness. I sure wish we still had music like this. I feel sad that people today don't get to hear this kind of true classic country. George this is so pretty.
The people who gave thumbs down are George Strait fans. They are too obsessed with Straits record sales rather than the music
This video is a great example of REAL talent. It's performed live, with no auto-tuners or special effects. Maybe just a hint of reverb, if anything, and it's perfect. George's vocals, the steel guitar playing of the late, great Hal Rugg, and the rest of the band, sound as good performing live as they did on records. I just wonder if any of the current so called "new country" singers could even get close without all the electronic enhancements. What Doyle said at the end of the vid was right
The greatest voice in music history. Merle Haggard is a close second
my wife left me, but she came back before i could get the first bottle drank..it was just me n george for a day!
Never will ever get over George Jones singing! He had that true good ol country he will always be in my heart! I miss him !
George Jones the voice of TRUE COUNTRY MUSIC.
Truer words were never spoken. ❤❤❤
George Jones has left a Legacy that no other singer can replace. He is the BEST !!!!!!!!!
george jones is the all ttime best!!!!
Masterful never to have an equal. Pure country at it's finest. King George lives in our 💕 hearts. 🇺🇲
Written by Don Chapel, this was one of Don's biggest songs. I know Don Chapel personally and he still sings this song a lot.
My dad's cousin wrote this song Don Loyd chapel born Loyd Amburgey and was married to Tammy wynette for a while n had Martha Carson (Amburgey)that sang Satisfied and opel that sang but daughters had a band called Amburgey sisters and also changed to sunshine sisters
I have read pretty much every music bio book out there , across all genres , and NONE of them come close to the absolute insanity of George Jones' . How he survived is truly a miracle . Don't take my word for it, check it out and see.
Yep makes all the crazy "rockers" look like kindergarten
Keith Whitley and George are neck and neck for the best country singer, in my opinion
John B I will give the edge to George, but Keith might’ve matched George if he had lived longer
You forgot Daryle Singletary.
I agree George then Keith
The quality of his voice is what’s most impressive to me. How could anyone not like this
i agree george jones is the greatest pure singer i have ever heard.no one else is even close
I've been told I look like George, I can only wish I had the voice, RIP Mr. Jones, thanks for all the great songs.
Georges life comes out in his singing. It resonates through his voice in a way I have never heard in any other singer and I mean ANY other singer. He has lead a hard life which is why, when he sings some of his sadder songs, you want to grab a beer, jump up into your old pickup that won't start with your old flea infested dog and cry.
This was my Grandmother's favorite- now I am missing her and George!
RIP Possum, there are younger folks listening to and playing your music and we won't let you be forgotten.
LOVE George Jones but the first time I heard it was when watching his funeral and Ronnie Milsap sang it.. And I LOVE it.

A far sight better than the crap that passes for country music these days.
They call this country this crap today is not country I don't know what it is
Hello there
i think it need to be rerecord all his songs,....i love it even i was not yet born the time he was sooooo hot in country music...i have seldom of my favorite country star and i think all are just the same as he, when he sing its just the simple way yet very powerful....to mention a few, i like vince, alan, travis george straight...i miss ricky van shelton too...now scotty did rise,..hope he will bring back the way true country should be
We still have your music in our hearts and in our minds. Thank you. ❤
Lovely....from the Master.
This guy can bring you to pieces .! I love ❤️ you times a million 😢
a great song
George Jones~the Cadillac of Country singers!!!
This is probably the song that got me into ol' George . My dad would play this cassette on our way to a fishing spot in Palmer Rapids, Ontario. I still remember the hills we drove over as he sang. I miss them both. Best times of my life though....
Lets not be sad ppl..
THANK him for what he gave us for the last 50 plus yrs..
CHEERS Mr. Jones and TY very much..
all I can say is ..HOLY Mother of SONGS!!
Super George, I miss you so !
For me, this is George at the peak of his powers. Late 60s/early 70s. Just incredible singing.
What a terrific performance!
Country Music pure and simple !!!
What is it about this man that makes me want to cry every time I listen to one of his songs? I hope he had a happy life but listening to his songs makes me think he suffered a lot. I can relate: the suffering never ceases.
Wow - from Europe -- God bless you. I guess we all suffer the same. I pray for all the people who suffer like this. I find life is a sorrowful feeling. God bless all who suffer.
Pat Melton A country writer put it best when he said for 3 minutes when he sang a song, he lived and breathed every second of it. George had a difficult life, and inherited alcoholism and self destruction from his father. Although he loved Tammy (one of his wives and the source of much of his pain) with every fiber of his being, he was often too drunk to treat her right. Eventually his behaviour forced her to leave him and they began to pour their souls into the only outlet they had left; music.
+Tyler Lee That was beautifully put. He did love Tammy with all his heart and til the day he took his last breath I believe. Alcoholism is terrible disease that he struggled with on up into his sixties. His almost fatal car crash changed his life and he told God if he would let him live he would not touch alcohol again. The last fourteen years of his life were probably his best. He was free from addictions and ready to meet his maker. I can't wait till his movie comes out.
+bigredslilmomma Tammy wrote that song while she was still married to her 2nd husband, Don Chapel. She and George had fallen for eachother, and as a sign of that George recorded and released it.
Yes I know this. I can probably tell you his whole life story. I've read just about every book I could find on George Jones, watched interviews with both him and Tammy. He flipped over Don Chapels table one night at dinner because he was cussing Tammy and told him he loved her. He loaded up her & her children and left and Tammy never looked back. He even adopted her children. Tammy said of George that she was madly in love with him and when he wasn't drunk he was everything she had wanted in a man. I could go on and on. I wish I could have met him but his soul is with Jesus now. Praise the Lord for Vestal Goodman she was a dear friend to George and helped him a lot until her death in 2003.
Great song love that man miss him dearly
This LIVE version is the very best rendition George ever did on this number- at least that has survived. One can argue with the band's contributions vs studio musicians but for George...its better than his recorded version for clarity, tone, voice inflection and delivery. Moreover, IMHO it is one of G's best songs ever recorded....top 5 at least!
He was a one off. No one sang or will sing like him. I miss him already just thinking that there will be no more.
RIP in peace to one of Country Music’s Greats.. George you will be missed
This sums up my feelings for that certain someone. Nothing today can even come close!!!!
No One Will Fill George's Shoes He Is The King Rip
Harold had that Shot Buddy all tuned up with those Hoosier mods. George singing young and hungry. Listen up, this is some of the finest steel guitar backing ever.
l agree with you, indeed George Jones is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style, he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days.
Hal Rugg playing that leather wrapped Shot Buddy on the Wilburn Brothers show. Wish we could find these on tv today. But its too white.
Great singer
Superior quality! Thank you for posting this fantastic performance. George Jones is king!
Funny how the mic is a little too hot in this recording, but it only helps to make clear George's flawless vocals.
He's the greatest
Sad thing is probably 90% of the people leaving comments haven't listened to this man's music in a long time and now feel compelled to for some reason.
i must agree george jones is the best country music singer ever.
My father wrote this song for my mom Kay...Don Chapel...could write a great country heart breaking song!
@Greg Normal my dad was Don Chapel..He wrote the GRASS song
@Greg Normal ..dad wrote FROM HERE TO THE DOOR...recorded also by George J..number one also in England!
@Greg Normal here it will be..
@Greg Normal for now ..we can visit here...
l agree with you, indeed George Jones is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style, he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days.
R.I.P. George.I got to hear the greatest country singers of all time when these classics came out.
Although I'm from Texas with an aunt who's 1st cousins with George, I never paid much attention to him growing up.
This song is presented so beautifully and so perfect, it makes me cry. I can listen to these songs and cry all day... so the only problem is, is i can't stop listening to these songs. Being an avid listerner and musician most of my life did not prepare me for the timeless music of George Jones.
I realized, I'm not sad listening to his sad cowboy songs, I'm overwhelmed and overjoyed with the depth of his singing and originality.
I still dont know how to express these feelings about his music.
Thank you for being here on Earth with us, George. And sorry I missed seeing you at the Houston Rodeo while you were here. I didn't know country music like yours until now.
George Jones is the best ever his singing touching ....wonder if he ever knew how great he sang no one better then Jones
they just do not come like this anymore the best.
His songs seem so autobiographical. Melancholic to say the least. Alcoholic....if you know what I mean..☺
@KLUNKET
i'd have to agree about old george. a pure singer. as pure as they come.
No doubt as T Tommy once said, George is the master interpreter of a county song.
Just too good. It reminds me of the relationship between my Grandmother and Grandfather. It was a forever thing. That is something rare.
After read other storys Tammy Wynette wrote great song. Tell story. Amazing song. This pure country music . A plus song and video. God bless George Jones. In heaven. He was give lots classic Pure country sound. I truly enjoy more and more since was child and even get over still listen all ages.
Yeah. A weird way at looking at love. I love George Jones but his world is a fantasy of really trying. I'm 82.
Thanks to George we will always have "Real" Country music. Todays so called country singers will always be in George's shadow
His songs always reminds me of my dad. Especally Things have gone to pieces
