      I am 60 years old and live in Wyoming. We couldn't be any farther from the "Old Southern County" music. However, my Dad played in a band in WY and SD back in the 60s and to this day I can remember him singing George's old songs like this. I was wrecked when I heard that George went on to Heaven. I rejoice in knowing I'll hear him sing again in person. George....you fought many battles but you received Jesus as your Savior and that was your greatest decision. See you soon my Friend

    This singing performance proves why George Jones is the greatest of them all . . . he's hauntingly beautiful, painfully perfect. He is on another plane than the other pillars and giants of the genre. He just digs deeper into the human heart and finds something very visceral. No one can match him.
    1. George Jones (smooth as silk, soulful, bluesy, effortless pitch, pure, raw emotion, smooth purrrr, deep bass,hick-up twang, nasally twang, high, lonesome, haunting sound, his vocals can do it all

      I've always said, when it comes to country singers it's a tie for #1. Hank Williams and George Jones, 1A and 1B. Might have to actually give Possum the nod though, just for the sheer volume of great work.
      Consider myself fortunate that I was able to see Jones in concert once. It was a year or two before he died, and while he was clearly limited physically (he didn't move around much on stage), his voice still sounded great.
      I bought a tee shirt at that show, and even though it's doubtful I'll ever fit into it again, I'll never throw it out.

    This video is a great example of REAL talent. It's performed live, with no auto-tuners or special effects. Maybe just a hint of reverb, if anything, and it's perfect. George's vocals, the steel guitar playing of the late, great Hal Rugg, and the rest of the band, sound as good performing live as they did on records. I just wonder if any of the current so called "new country" singers could even get close without all the electronic enhancements. What Doyle said at the end of the vid was right

      Pat Melton A country writer put it best when he said for 3 minutes when he sang a song, he lived and breathed every second of it. George had a difficult life, and inherited alcoholism and self destruction from his father. Although he loved Tammy (one of his wives and the source of much of his pain) with every fiber of his being, he was often too drunk to treat her right. Eventually his behaviour forced her to leave him and they began to pour their souls into the only outlet they had left; music.

    • @bigredslilmomma
      @bigredslilmomma 9 лет назад +4

      +Tyler Lee That was beautifully put. He did love Tammy with all his heart and til the day he took his last breath I believe. Alcoholism is terrible disease that he struggled with on up into his sixties. His almost fatal car crash changed his life and he told God if he would let him live he would not touch alcohol again. The last fourteen years of his life were probably his best. He was free from addictions and ready to meet his maker. I can't wait till his movie comes out.

    • @alexgreen1559
      @alexgreen1559 8 лет назад

      +bigredslilmomma Tammy wrote that song while she was still married to her 2nd husband, Don Chapel. She and George had fallen for eachother, and as a sign of that George recorded and released it.

    • @bigredslilmomma
      @bigredslilmomma 8 лет назад +5

      Yes I know this. I can probably tell you his whole life story. I've read just about every book I could find on George Jones, watched interviews with both him and Tammy. He flipped over Don Chapels table one night at dinner because he was cussing Tammy and told him he loved her. He loaded up her & her children and left and Tammy never looked back. He even adopted her children. Tammy said of George that she was madly in love with him and when he wasn't drunk he was everything she had wanted in a man. I could go on and on. I wish I could have met him but his soul is with Jesus now. Praise the Lord for Vestal Goodman she was a dear friend to George and helped him a lot until her death in 2003.

    Harold had that Shot Buddy all tuned up with those Hoosier mods. George singing young and hungry. Listen up, this is some of the finest steel guitar backing ever.

    Funny how the mic is a little too hot in this recording, but it only helps to make clear George's flawless vocals.

    Sad thing is probably 90% of the people leaving comments haven't listened to this man's music in a long time and now feel compelled to for some reason.

    Although I'm from Texas with an aunt who's 1st cousins with George, I never paid much attention to him growing up.
    This song is presented so beautifully and so perfect, it makes me cry. I can listen to these songs and cry all day... so the only problem is, is i can't stop listening to these songs. Being an avid listerner and musician most of my life did not prepare me for the timeless music of George Jones.
    I realized, I'm not sad listening to his sad cowboy songs, I'm overwhelmed and overjoyed with the depth of his singing and originality.
    I still dont know how to express these feelings about his music.
    Thank you for being here on Earth with us, George. And sorry I missed seeing you at the Houston Rodeo while you were here. I didn't know country music like yours until now.

    His songs seem so autobiographical. Melancholic to say the least. Alcoholic....if you know what I mean..☺
