    This and the Big Boy are two very fine examples of American might and skill. These two locomotives exemplify the last end of the 200 year industrial revolution, and were instrumental in helping America win the second world war. I am so pleased to see history brought alive again, and the resurgence of interest in steam, the most powerful energy on earth.

    It just blows my mind that the C&O thought to save an old, workaday 2-6-6-2 from the scrap line while NYC would not save even ONE of their famous Hudsons!! Unbelievable.

    • @M1chael42O1
      @M1chael42O1 6 лет назад +1

      well at the time the NYC was in full swing for changing to diesel power so the thought of saving one probably never even came up

    The red switcher seemed like it was having a bit of trouble moving 1309.
    It's awesome that another articulated engine is being brought back! And the fact that it's a tourist railroad doing it instead of a class 1 like UP or NS makes even more impressive. 2014 has probably been one of the best years for steam preservation ever!

    • @mark10788
      @mark10788 10 лет назад +1

      I seriously agree! Don't forget that a new PRR T1 duplex is being constructed!

    • @manga12
      @manga12 10 лет назад +1

      yes it its a good day for archery fans, and the last two for steam engine restoration,
      and HOLD THE FRONT DOOR THEY ARE GOING TO RECONSTRUCT A T-1 DUPLEX,@O@!!! THEY WERE THE FASTEST LOCOS EVER BACK IN THE DAY MANY SAY THEY WERE GOING OVER 130 MPH BUT IT WAS NEVER DOCUMENTED THAT IS THE SLIGHT STREAMLINED BUT KIND OF UGLY LOCO THAT WAS A 4-4-4-4 CLASS AND WAS REALLY PRONE TO WHEELSLIP DUE TO NOT GIVEING THE RUNNING ENGINE CREWS TIME TO TRAIN WITH IT SO TO LEARN TO EASE THE THROTTLE UP AND NOT POWER ALL AT ONCE. I see the T-1 trust website they are for real and even took to casting a number for the engine in metal already, as of this reading at August 5, 2014 at 2:17 am eastern dst and as of 7?3/14 they are an official tax exempt trust.

      I cherish your excitement. I am excited to. But, there is a downside. Due to it being so expensive (10-20 million), it might be out in 2030 or later, depending on the income of donations.

    • @manga12
      @manga12 10 лет назад

      mark10788 sarry for the double reply I am just kind of excited, the t1 was one of the most unique locos ever made and many say the fastest running steamer ever with its huge drivers and raw power in the duplex type steam engine, but it is soo powerful I just have to ask really why such a big one I know it is such a great grave error they were all cut up of the origionals and not one was put in a musium, and that big locos like her will be hard on the rails, though I think it be only a matter of time before the c&o allegany runs once more since both have been inside for several years, the one at dearborn had a special building built just to fit it and went there under its own power back in the day so I might be the best choice for rebuild and restoration if it ever is to be, it would just be the end all of steamers as it was for it back in the day, the heaviest and most hp ever in a locomotive.

      I'm fine with multiple replies, and I understand. Surely, the T1 was pretty powerful.

    If you were close enough (another video is), you could hear her gasping much the same way 611 did on her first moves towards her initial restoration. The comment from that story is it's like she's breathing the first breaths of a new life.
    Granted moving her on dry cylinders isn't exactly smart, but this was a short-distance move for loading onto flat cars, rather than a DIT (dead-in-tow) move, which would have required rods to come off (VMT took 611's off for her DIT move to Spencer, at least).

    I think it is great they are going to restore this to operating condition. I'm also an EMD fan and love older EMD's especial end cab switchers. I am also an engineer for CSX and basically all we have is GP38's GP40's an occasional GP15 and GP40 slug sets, there are a few MP15's around the system but none where I work. I am glad they finally decided to get rid of the GE 4 axle switchers, the B36's and B40's, they were and are the biggest pieces of junk ever produced by GE, I do however miss the ole B23-7's they were a decent engine, rode like crap but would load really well.

      +Brett Hobbs Well, there's an organization called Coalition for Sustainable Rail (A.K.A. CSR) in Topeka, Kansas, and they have plans to restore ATSF 3463, a 4-6-4 steam engine, to working condition.
      The only problem the group has is trying the negotiate with the city about how they want to restore the engine.

    reading all of the comments, I have actually in my boring time put together a small excel page of the steamers that are operational and will be. In the next few years we could see, what most had the chance to or the younger generations we was seen in the early 90's. Me being from Scranton I get to see 2317, 3254, 26, 425, and 261 all in operation, we will see a big lash up again. Its cool to see history being brought to teach the younger generations and wow the older. There will be about 20 plus engines from what I have found right now operational in the next 4 to 5 years if all stays on track. Great video of this move. Subscribing to you, if you can subscribe to my channel, I have some video from Steamtown and Illinois railway museum. Kflannigan98.
