I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Your explanation was much more in-depth than others I’ve seen. So much great information! Thanks.👍

Very nice video with quite a bit of good information. I like to just use the premix 50-50, flush and fill, drive for a few days, repeat several times.
It looks like you have two doors to your garage for cross ventilation. Many garages do not have this. To prevent possible serious issues with carbon monoxide, you could use a large fan to circulate air or just pull the car out into the driveway to warm it up.

I'm not sure how 50/50 can get the antifreeze up to 50% unless all the coolant is drained. Do you top off with pure antifreeze as well?
Also, we didn't show it in the video but we had a big fan going whenever we run the car in the garage, and we open the garage door 1/2 way as well to create good cross circulation. Thanks for caring!

@@carzombies You can get to 50% using premix the same way you got to almost 0% with water. After 3, 4, or 5 iterations the concentration is correct. It costs more money, but using premix this way you can drive the car before the next iterations without too much worry. I sometimes also do the first iteration or two with water, and then do more with the premix, as long as the first water/premix solutions will not stay in from more than a day and I am not driving very far.

I never thought of that. It seems to me that the math works almost the same way as well! Brilliant! The only issue is that you will be throwing out pre-mix as you go to get the math to work. Or, like you said, you can do the initial flushes with water and maybe do two final pre-mix flushes to get closer in the end. I'd want to test it in the end just to be sure it will hold up in my weather. Thanks for the ideas!

You should NEVER use distilled water. Distilled water contains ions but no impurities. This is bad. The distilled water is electrically conductive and will remove (corrode) anything it can and acts as an electrolyte. Deionized water (which most people cannot access) is what is used in premix AF. Deionized water is not electrically conductive and cannot corrode your cooling system. This makes premix a much better choice.
Also, raise the rear axle with ramps (or otherwise)to drain as much coolant as possible. Put some paper towels inside your collection tray to minimize splashing.

We really like the idea of the paper towel! Also, the idea for raising the rear of the car should help reduce the number flushes if your car will drain more. Good ideas!
We looked up the distilled water versus deionized water issue and it is beyond our ability to derive which is better (there seems to be a lot of opinions about it on the internet). However, if we had access to deionized water, it sure sounds like a better way to go. Where do you get it?
Finally, using pre-mixed only can work if you can drain your car's full capacity of coolant and water, which in our experience is nearly impossible. Diane's car will only drain half the capacity, which means adding back premix after flushing will add back only 1/4 of the antifreeze needed.

@@carzombies the water in nature is not deionized, so it slowly cuts through rock as it removes ions of minerals from the rock.
I would do a Google search for deionized water to find a source near you.
You are likely better off using tap water over distilled simply because it will contain local minerals and be less active.
I'm not sure why you can't drain the old AF out. Removing the heater hoses and using compressed air should work. If you're only getting half of it out, I'm not sure that's really beneficial.
