You two Crazy Kids are a delight. I wouldn't call you Amateurs though. I used to be a "Professional" Technician at Toyota & I assure you I saw more professionalism in this video than I did in 80,000 hours in that garage. Unless I missed the part where you roasted the customer's tire's in the Lube Bay or Clam Baked the Car Wash on Lunch - In which case, You *are* Professionals!
Well, we don’t have a lube bay, but if we did, we probably wouldn’t be roasting any tires on it. 😂. Thanks so much for your great compliment! Diane & Paul 😀😎
This was great! I do think these are great but I think regular Jack will take up less space.
Thanks! The floor jack, once you get used to it, feels safer sometimes as well. But the ramps are quick and dirty; great for a quick oil change. Paul & Diane 😎😊
@@carzombies you’re right for that it’s quick. Are thoose rhino ramps? Look solid. Thanks for responding 🙏
Yes, they are rhino ramps. Here's the link on Amazon amzn.to/3IOru8i. They work great! Paul 😎
@carzombies great thanks
There is a low angle version of the plastic ramps for cars low to the ground. You can also get a low profile floor jack. Just jack up the car and slide the ramps under - skip driving the ramps that is way too dangerous from the video you have shown - especially with your shiny garage floor. Hope your cars last the 20 and 30 more years you are looking for !
Thanks for the info! We have the low profile floor jack, and I've seen the low profile ramps but haven't got them yet. We hope the cars keep going as well! Paul & Diane 😎😊
Thanks for taking the time to do the work for us?
You are welcome. It helped ease us into car repairs. Paul & Diane 😎😀
great video quality and a great concept for a channel
Wow! Thanks! We appreciate your kind comment…Thanks for watching. Diane & Paul 😀😎
Make sure your make ur woman help wrench
Back wheels are off the ground on the jacket need to be stable too 😅
😂😂
Had my wife under the truck helping me put the transmission in the last weekend .
That's awesome! You guys must have a great relationship! Diane & Paul 😊😎
Thank you!!! I looked around youtube a lot for a video like this, and you guys made the only one I got what I was looking for. Great dialogue too, very entertaining :D
We love comments like yours! Thanks! Diane & Paul 😊😎
I love this. My hubby is an auto body tech, we used to race Dirt together. He taught me all my car stuff 😊
That's awesome! I love knowing other gals are working on cars! Diane 😊
Ya'll ain't serious.
It's probably a dust shield to protect the integrity of whatever is lubricating that part. Good find, haha.
That makes a ton of sense. The part underneath had a lot of goopy grease on it, and a shield for keeping the dust off of it is a good idea. Paul & Diane 😎😀
Wrong spot to jack car up, should not click at all.
Weve all been there, congratulations this shows that you can learn and discover at any age doing anything, get out there people and fix something ❤
Thanks for the support! We have a lot of fun doing these projects. Never thought we would be fixing our own cars...but glad we are! Diane & Paul 😊😎
You would think that the manufacturer would tell you which side is down on the tire chocks
Agree! Unfortunately, all we got from Amazon was a box with the wheel chocks in it. No manual. Nothing. Paul & Diane 😎😀
This is a beautiful moment
When it comes to jack stands it doesn’t matter how much they cost they can be a life saver never get under a vehicle without them.
We certainly agree! We put everything we can fit under the car as backup. For example, if we take off a wheel, it goes besides the jack stand under the rocker board. We keep the floor jack under as well if it fits. Paul & Diane 😎😊
can jack the car up then put ramps under the wheels then lower the jack so the car is on the ramps
Thanks, we do that sometimes now, but back then we were trying to figure out where the jack up point was in the first place so we were going on ramps to see where the cross beam was that we could jack up on since the car is 6 inches off the ground. Paul & Diane 😎😀
@@carzombies ah cool! thanks for showing the process i actually never tried to drive onto the ramps those mats certainly helped!
That's awesome it helped! Good luck with your repairs... Paul & Diane 😎😊
I've tried that and you end up having to jack the car pretty high because the suspension decompresses. It's really not that difficult to drive onto them, you just aren't supposed to use them on super smooth ground
When we did this it was when Diane worked on her transmission. We had to jack the car up really high (like you said), and then we put jack stands on the roadside jack-up points and put the ramps under the wheels as backup. The only problem was after a while the wheels drooped even more and were resting on the ramps so we had to jack up the car even higher to get the ramps out in the end. But we were safe! Paul & Diane 😎😊
cool video once the car is up you can use more stable objects like the wheels on their side or planks under the car in case the stands and the jack fail or someone crashes into yur car or their is an earthquake while yur under it
I never thought about an earthquake! Good thinking. Anything to be safe! Diane & Paul 😊😎
Car basics for dummies 🤦. Please people, don't get hurt.
Good job. I did the crankshaft pully in my W203 ( 2002-C240) in 2019 and it was a nightmare. Had to do it in the street mid-Feb while it was freezing here in Jersey. It took me about an hour of solo work, but glad I was able to do it 4 hours before my work shift starts.
Di says that it must’ve been miserable for you and she gives you a ton of credit for that! I can’t believe you did it in an hour! Paul & Diane 😎😃
19:43 This is what matters .. these moments are what lives forever👌
That was a big moment for us and you’re the first to comment on it. Thank you. Diane & Paul 😃😎
Placing a mat underneath only a portion of those Polypropylene ramps is insane. Those ramps are designed to be on a flat surface so the weight of the vehicle is evenly distributed over the length (and width) of the whole ramp. Even a thin mat creates a relatively less supported area where the mat ends and the ramp is solely supported by the garage floor. There are now forces at work that are pulling the bottom of the ramp apart along the bottom edge because the bottom of the ramp is not on a flat surface. Better to use a floor jack and jack stands; you can't work on the brakes if the wheel is on the car anyway.
All good points. Our mats are so thin we really don’t think it’s making much of a difference as it isn’t even as thick as the rubber that’s already on the front of the ramps. But we really do think people should be careful of any risks, so we appreciate your comment. Paul & Diane 😎😃
i love this
Thanks! Diane & Paul 😃😎
Buy steel
Do they have rubber to keep them from sliding? Seems like steel would slide more on a smooth garage floor. Anyway, we haven't tried it, so we don't know... Paul & Diane 😎😊
I try to stand to one side of the jack. If it descends too quickly it can zoom out.
That sounds like very good advice! Diane & Paul 😊😎
Jack points should be specified in the owners manual. Modern cars are NOT intuitive. I gave my jack stands away long ago because wooden cribbing is far more stable (and dirt cheap to make, I buy 6x6s and 4x4s which you can have the supplier cut to ~18" length. Wood is MUCH stronger than consumer jack stands. I also move machine tools where the non-slip aspect of wood is even more important.
Our manual only tells us where the roadside jack-up points are, not the one in the center of the car that lifts one side or the other. The online Mercedes service manuals tell us that, thankfully. Paul 😎
Lifelong mechanic here who gave my ramps away many years ago along with my stands. Jacks and wooden cribbing work superbly. First responders carry wooden cribbing for good reason. I also use a pinch weld puck where useful.
I like the idea because wood probably won't slide and it is great at handling the compression (assuming it is wide enough not to be unstable). However, we have never tried this. Paul 😎
Tip for you. I usually don't have anyone around to guide me onto the ramps so I setup a wireless camera so I can easily see my progress on the ramps from inside my car. I typically use a 10" tablet to give me a larger screen to work with rather than my phone.
Paul, you married well.
You got that right! We have a blast together! Paul & Diane 😎😊
You're old enough to realize that you should always have a key on you! Good thing you did!
So true! It is a bit weird how it doesn't just turn in the lock like a regular lock. You have to push it in while turning or nothing happens! Diane & Paul 😊😎
She's a very lucky lady. She has a good man who is willing to go through all them little things that could be annoying when you work on a car. Me: Hun! Go make me a sandwich if you really want to help 😂
I'm a lucky man. At least Diane helps with the cars, and she makes a mean chicken fried steak! Paul 😎
@@carzombies That's good!! My wife also helps me a lot around the house and im very grateful to her for that but what I meant to say is that sometimes I'll be working on a car and you know when someting just don't want to come out or is just being a pain in the arse and you are in a really bad mood and here she comes trying to help with ideas but you know that none of her ideas will work and in the middle of being on the verge of breaking something or throwing something you still have to listen and be nice to her😁. So, im like... im hungry hun, can you please make me something to eat?😁😆 by that time im usually done. Lol
Lol 😂
Why did you say shut it
That’s a great question! The springs that hold the trunk up are broken so we normally shut it so it doesn’t fall and hurt someone. I was thinking about the danger when I instinctively said “shut it.” Had I remembered that the battery wouldn’t allow us to easily open it, I would’ve said to shut it softly so that it didn’t latch. Paul 😎
manual tool. a key might work.
Yep. I think Diane meant that we had to manually open it with the key, which we did eventually. Paul & Diane 😎😀
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Your tip on resetting the limp mode by using the accelerator button, waiting 2 mins then restarting WORKED!! I am beside myself with joy! I have been asking people, mechanics, everyone, and no-one likes Mercedes to work on so no-one could or would help. I was in despair that this car would never be fixed. This simple fix you have described is magic! Cost me nothing and I have my car back after months of no car and thinking it would have to go to the wrecker. THANK YOU!❤❤
We are glad it worked! If you have problems again, however (like we did), then keep watching the other videos. There is so much more to this issue. We got a computer to reset the transmission since one day simple fixes quit working. Later, we changed the transmission conductor plate, but it didn't help (big messy job). After that, we found out what was really causing it (hint, it had nothing to do with the transmission, but more to do with my long legs pressing on the floorboard where the transmission controller is, causing it to reset into limp mode). Thanks! Paul & Diane 😎😊
Enjoy your video. Probably Diane could jack up the car without her face over the jack handle; Just in case if the handle should fly up, it wouldn't hit her in the face. Great video, very informative. Cheers.
I'm going to pay attention to that from now on. I was slightly aware of it at the time, but your comment makes me super aware! Thanks! Diane 😊
What a team! You did a great job and you have a great relationship, learning together and having a good fun time together. So inspiring ❤

LMAO my ramps dont slide my ramps have way more rubber on the bottom i dont need a second person to drive up the ramps the wheel is sitting in the dip and you have the parking brake on ,,,, what more do you need ??????
ANTI-RATTLING CLIPS ON THE BACK HELP REDUCE BRAKE DRAG AND PREVENT EXCESSIVE MOVEMENT OR BINDING OF THE CALIPER AND PAD. THIS HELPS FUEL ECONOMY.
Thanks for the details, we didn’t know that. But why wouldn’t that apply to the front brakes, which didn’t have them? Paul & Diane 😎😀
Unqualified people should NOT fix brakes or steering. Your lives along with other lives depend on your brakes working correctly.
Your content is wholesome and refreshing, keep doing what you're doing.
Thanks! Diane says she must be wholesome, so I must be refreshing. I get that a lot. 😂 Paul & Diane 😎😀
lol this is epic! I replaced mine on a 325e, and I didn't know that people even removed the intake for the job, so I struggled for about two hours, fiddling with it before I got it in there! Thanks so much for an awesome video!
You are welcome! Replacing the breather hose wasn’t our original video, but it took so long and it was so complicated that we decided to make it the video. Diane & Paul 😀😎
