Couple of tips just in general:
1. You may have done this and not talked about it, but when you weren't sure where the wires went, taking a bunch of pictures with your phone can help with small details like this. Every time I've ever said "Oh, I'll remember how this goes" I've regretted it.
2. When you were struggling to get the connector in, you mentioned that you could have done this before you installed the piece. Dont be afraid to backtrack a bit to make a future step easier.
Both are good advice. Thanks. In our case we go back and look at earlier video footage instead of phone pics, but I like that as well.

@@carzombiesI am testing the connector outside, for the new o ring, slide it forward to the connector front edge, then push gently. The o ring will roll back towards its correct place while still inside.

It is a messy job and takes quite a bit of experience to get it to drain easily. Start at one corner and slowly loosen bolts to get the pan or valve body to tilt, allowing the oil to drain from one point. Still, it is a very messy job.
I was a mobile mechanic for many years and like you I ended up using cardboard to lay on. Being in a carpark, driveway or side of the road, a garage creeper would not work. Maybe that explains why my back is worn out!
The 'gears' you are referring to are the transmission selector comb, (also known as the rooster comb) It provides that detent you feel when you select individual gears with your transmission lever.
Those crazy european connectors drive you mad! It is a good idea to use rubber grease on the O-ring to help it slide into place.
I always take photos as I disassemble a job. I can always check the position of things before I try and reassemble components.

You are so nice to take the time to watch the video and give us pointers. Thanks so much. We too go back to watch earlier video from a project if we get stuck putting it back together later, and we like your idea of taking pictures with a camera if we weren't already video taping it.
Di said that your explanation of the gears and selector comb were really helpful, and I can see how that would work to give tactile feel in the car. I also assume it is probably putting us in 2nd gear when we go to "D" (drive) and if the Transmission Control Module is working properly then the TCM changes the gears. And I assume when the TCM isn't working for some reason like a bad sensor the car just stays in Limp mode because that's the default using the manual gears. Just my assumption, I really don't know for sure.

@@carzombies The comb is just a mechanical detent to give the feel of engaging gears. The TCM is a whole different story. The Limp Home Mode is used when certain criteria has been set. Keep in mind that this may have nothing to do with the transmission as there are many reasons to engage this mode. Most modules (computers) talk to one another on a network, so that one may have a fault that might seem unrelated to the transmission and the PCM (PowerTrain Control Module - engine plus others) may decide to lower the throttle response, stay in 2nd gear, and limit other features normally available.
What fault codes do you have?
@@MiracleMAX So far we only got P0715 from a really old diagnostic tool, which we researched to heck and processed as best we could. We bought a new diagnostic tool that is supposed to give us more codes and turn off limp mode which we will cover in the a video in a couple of weeks (editing time is killing me, but I'm a perfectionist and want the videos to look good). After that we worked on the TCM so I hate to say it, but stay tuned and you'll get all the data soon...

You guys are doing excellent work. I cannot wait for your next video. I’m having same with my CLk320 and tried 5 different OBD scanner with no luck. My car still in limp mode and excited to see your fix.
I wish we could get you the results faster, but it may be a couple of weeks more to get the next (and hopefully last) transmission video out. Friday's video this week is back to Paul's BMW, then we release my next video. It will likely answer most of your questions.
But since your car is broken, Paul said to consider buying amzn.to/3MMydR9 by iCarSoft (check to see if your car is supported first). And if your car is old like ours, you may also need the adapter amzn.to/3IL0VAH. In this case, you connect it to a connector under the hood (not the one under the steering wheel). Then it works! From there you can see more codes and reset your check engine light (and maybe your limp mode). We'll cover all of this in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for your help, my car is finally out of limp mode.
I had a foam pad that I had and I have been using it to lay on and it makes lying down comfortable. That can help when under the car or on your knees.
Great idea! We discovered last weekend that we had a foam mat sitting unused in the garage and used it to change my fuel filter (future video). Wish we thought of it sooner!

Just a useful thing... you can use a scissor jack to help you hold the part up.. so your arms don't get tired.. a scissor jack is better in control then a floor jack... you might need to place some blocks to help extend it

I did the same service last year, same transmission different car, for the connector make sure you lubricate the new o-ring, that helps to seat it properly, as for the limp mode, you might want to check your transmission module, if the old connector leaked then oil can travel up to through the cables due to capillary effect and damage the TCU, not sure where it is on your car. Have you checked what codes are active? some cheap scanners like the icarsoft for mercedes can read and clear some of the codes, it might be something as easy as that after all the work you did.
We did lubricate the new o-ring, but I forgot to put it in the video. Anyhow, we have since got the new connector and the o-ring is visibly smaller and more pliable. The one from FCP was hard rubber that didn't give, and a little too thick.
Also, thanks for the suggestions. We already did the work for the next video and I bet you recognize some of the things we tried next. You are spot on!

I went through the same exact thing you two are experiencing two years ago on my 99 CLK320. Same exact code, same symptoms. I would love to contact you directly and give you some advice, as I struggled myself, so I feel compelled to provide you what eventually worked for me.
Its killing me not to let everyone know the result, but we determined exactly what caused the problem and will reveal it in the video we release in a couple of weeks. Editing really is holding me back...
After that, we'd love to compare notes.

I was told my Chrysler has the same transmission 722.6
I heard that too. Lot's of cars have used it. There are some differences in how it is mounted, like our exhaust pipe may not be in the way on your car, but inside they are the same.

Here's a cryptic hint on what was causing the Limp mode: Diane was right from her first comments about limp mode, and I was wrong about my assumptions on what was causing it. It just took awhile to figure it out.

That thing needs to drain overnight!!!
No kidding! I'm not sure that it doesn't have air bubbles of fluid that it holds back until we get under the car so it can release them on us. It seemed like there was a whole new floodgate of fluid released as we took off each part--even after removing the oil pan--like the filter, then the valve body.
